Tilak Varma punishes Punjab Kings as playoff dream fades; MI hand PBKS fifth straight defeat

NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings (PBKS) suffered their fifth straight defeat in IPL 2026 as Mumbai Indians (MI) registered a six-wicket win in a crucial clash on Thursday in Dharamsala. Shardul Thakur’s four-wicket haul and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 75 helped Mumbai chase down 201 in 19.5 overs and further dent Punjab’s playoff hopes.Batting first after being put in, Punjab got off to a strong start through Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. The pair added 50 runs in 33 balls, taking the side to 55 for 1 in the powerplay. Priyansh made 27 before Deepak Chahar cleaned him up in the sixth over.Prabhsimran then added another 57 runs with Cooper Connolly as Punjab crossed the 100-run mark in the 12th over. The opener made 57 and reached his fifty with a single before hitting another six off Shardul Thakur over backward square leg. However, Mumbai fought back strongly in the middle overs. He scored 38 off 17 balls with two sixes and a four. Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett also chipped in as Punjab collected 53 runs in the final three overs to finish at 200 for 8.For Mumbai, Deepak Chahar took 2 for 36 while Shardul finished with 4 for 39.Chasing 201, Mumbai began aggressively through Ryan Rickelton, who attacked from the start despite Rohit Sharma struggling at the other end. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a tight spell and dismissed Rohit as Mumbai slipped to 89 for 3.Tilak Varma then steadied the innings. He added 61 runs with Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 20, before taking charge in the closing overs. Punjab had a chance to dismiss Tilak, but Marco Jansen dropped a difficult catch off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling. With 72 needed from the last five overs, Tilak and Rutherford attacked Chahal and collected 20 runs in one over. Even after Rutherford fell, Tilak continued the chase confidently. He hit Marco Jansen for two sixes and a four in the 18th over, which went for 22 runs and pushed Mumbai ahead in the game. Needing 15 runs in the final over, Tilak finished the chase with two sixes.Tilak remained unbeaten on 75 off 33 balls as Mumbai reached 201 for 4 in 19.5 overs. The defeat left Punjab needing wins in both their remaining matches to stay alive in the race for the playoffs.

Carlo Ancelotti extends contract with Brazil’s national team until 2030 WC | FIFA World Cup 2022

Published

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has extended his contract with the team until the 2030 World Cup.

The 66-year-old Italian coach, who took over in May 2025, had already hinted the extension was likely and confirmed the deal in a video published by the Brazilian soccer confederation, CBF, on Thursday.

The announcement comes shortly before Ancelotti reveals his Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup on Monday.

“I arrived in Brazil a year ago. From the first minute, I understood what football means to this country. For a year, we have been working to take the Brazilian national team back to the top of the world. But the CBF and I want more,” Ancelotti said. “More victories, more time, more work. We are very happy to announce that we will continue together for another four years. We will go together until the 2030 World Cup.”
The former Real Madrid and AC Milan coach has had a troubled spell in Brazil so far, with many injured players and doubts as to whether his team can be a serious contender for the title at the tournament in North America. Under Ancelotti, Brazil has five wins, three losses and two draws in 10 games.

Ancelotti replaced Dorival Junior last year after some lackluster performances and had to scramble quickly to complete South American qualifying for the World Cup.

Real-life issues with AEW star to lead to Mercedes Mone’s return after nearly 5 months? Exploring the chances

Published

on

Mercedes Mone has not been seen in AEW for quite some time, but a recent real-life development involving a top AEW star could lead to the CEO’s return to the Jacksonville-based promotion.

Mercedes Mone’s name is listed among the greatest female wrestlers of all time. This recognition reflects her immense body of work, including her time as Sasha Banks in WWE and now in AEW as the CEO. Currently, the former TBS champion is on hiatus from the Jacksonville-based promotion, a break that began at Dynamite: New Year’s Smash, where she lost the title. During her absence, the wrestling world saw multiple reports suggesting she would return soon, and Mone herself hinted at a comeback on social media, but she has yet to return. As we navigate the fifth month of her absence, an unfortunate real-life issue involving a top AEW star, Persephone, may finally result in the CEO’s return to Tony Khan’s promotion.

It was recently confirmed that Persephone has suffered a legitimate and severe foot injury sustained in late April. As a result, the Mexican star was written off TV during a recent episode of Collision. Interestingly, Persephone was announced for this year’s Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament on this week’s Dynamite despite the injury. It is highly likely that Persephone will be unable to recover in time for her Round 1 match at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view, which opens the possibility of Tony Khan replacing her with Mercedes Mone.

Thekla has her say on Mercedes Mone’s AEW status

In a recent exclusive interview with Westwood One Sports Night, reigning AEW Women’s Champion Thekla was asked to comment on Mercedes Mone, but she chose to defer the comment to a later date. The Toxic Spider said she has interesting details about her in relation to the CEO, but they will have to wait before seeing the light of day.

“That’s a tough one. You know, I’m not gonna answer that because I think there will be a day where I’m going to reveal stuff that is interesting about me in relation to Mercedes. So I’m not gonna say anything,” said Thekla

Mercedes Mone returning to take Persephone’s place in the Owen Hart Cup is definitely a play Tony Khan can run, but for now it is a speculative angle, and it remains to be seen how Mone’s return to All Elite Wrestling will unfold.
