Manchester United return to Premier League action this lunchtime when they host Nottingham Forest. The Reds know avoiding defeat will confirm a third place finish this season. That would be another green tick next to Michael Carrick’s resume as he closes in on the permanent job.

United fans will be delighted to hear that Casemiro is fit to start against Forest. The midfielder missed the trip to Sunderland last weekend but Carrick confirmed he will be available to feature in his last Old Trafford game for the Reds. Benjamin Sesko is a major doubt after picking up an injury against Liverpool.

Matthijs de Ligt will be out until the start of 2026/27 season after United confirmed he had undergone surgery on a back injury. MEN Sport has asked our United writers to pick their teams for today’s game.

Tyrone Marshall

Carrick made five changes last week and there could be rotation again on the final day, but I would go strong for the final game at Old Trafford and I imagine Carrick will.

Diogo Dalot can come back in at right-back, he was missed last week in build-up play, but the rest of the defence is unchanged. Shaw deserves to get all 38 Premier League starts this season.

Casemiro is fit and will return for his Old Trafford farewell alongside Kobbie Mainoo, who will miss the Brazilian’s influence. Bruno Fernandes will obviously start and be desperate for that assist.

Joshua Zirkzee can come out of the team after his performance last week. That means Amad on the right, Matheus Cunha on the left and Bryan Mbeumo through the middle.

Steven Railston

I’d pick the strongest team possible for the final home game of the season. Most of the young players who I’d give minutes to were also in action for the U21s on Saturday night.

The final game of the season against Brighton will be an opportunity for academy players to get minutes.

Approaching the game with that stance, the team pretty much picks itself, although I’d play Amad down the middle as a false nine, a role that he excelled in during his successful loan stint with Sunderland.

After such a good turnaround under Carrick, United need to finish the season at Old Trafford on a high. The Reds should be playing their strongest team available for this one.

United could opt for Mason Mount on the left flank. It’s an unfamiliar position but the Reds need to find where he fits into this team. This would also allow Cunha to play centre-forward.

Bernardo Silva has expressed his gratitude to Pep Guardiola after Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. The captain was playing his final match at the national stadium for City and he helped his side to a tight win.

Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal of the game in the second half as his clever flick found Robert Sanchez’s bottom corner. After the game, Bernardo lifted the trophy alongside John Stones. Both men will be leaving the club at the end of the season when their contracts expire.

For Bernardo, this was his 18th major trophy with the Blues. Speaking to BBC Sport, the captain paid tribute to his manager. “He changed the way I see football. 80 per cent of my career was with him as my manager,” Bernardo said. “All the things I hoped to achieve were with him.

“The relationship we have got is very strong with the frustrations and the achievements.” When asked if Guardiola could be leaving the club, Bernardo said: “I care a lot about Man City. That’s his decision. It is not for me to comment on that. I wish all the best. I enjoy being with him having shared all these moments together.”

Reflecting on the achievement of winning the FA Cup, Bernardo added: “The FA Cup is a really, really special competition. To win it means so much to all the players, management and staff. After nine years at the club, I know how much this trophy means to our fans.

“They have to come to Wembley so often, which we know isn’t easy for them, but they are always behind us. It makes days like this even better knowing they are with us.

“Being able to lift another trophy at Wembley, where we have played so many times, is such a special feeling – one I never take for granted. To do so as captain makes this one of the best days of my career.

“Having already won the League Cup this year, this young team have now got a taste for trophies. I feel sure they will go on and win many more titles in the years to come.”

Marc Guehi had the honour of carrying the FA Cup onto the Manchester City team bus. That felt fitting after the defender had been forced to sit out the Carabao Cup final due to a bizarre rule cup-tying him.

The centre back spoke in the build-up to the weekend Wembley win over Chelsea about taking a back seat and learning about the mentality required to succeed in this squad. Guehi now has his first piece of City silverware.

When the Blues won the Carabao Cup against Arsenal the squad left in buoyant and celebratory mood, the upcoming international break affording the players a few days off. This time the mood was all business. There were smiles but the focus has already turned to Tuesday’s Premier League trip to Bournemouth.

A City staff member was carrying a box of Asahi Super Dry alcohol-free beer, one of the club’s sponsors. Antoine Semenyo, Phil Foden and Rodri were the City stars to stop and speak to reporters and all three know that Bournemouth are next. The celebrations will have to be put on ice.

But that didn’t stop the Blues soaking up the success with supporters on the Wembley turf, with departing duo John Stones and Bernardo Silva to the fore.

The pair toyed with the jubilant City fans as they waited to lift the cup. The two modern-day greats looked ecstatic and emotional as they stood in the Royal Box and thrust the famous old trophy into the sky.

Tijjani Reijnders was the man in possession of the trophy as City came down the famous steps and back onto the pitch, joined by Rodri to show off the silverware to a City end that was packed to the rafters.

The players gathered for the traditional photos and celebrations as silver streamers and flames shot into the air. The squad and the staff were then all called together. Rodri led the celebrations as Just the Way You Are by Milky blasted out. That has become the soundtrack of the season for City. Joy Division followed, Phil Foden aloft on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s shoulders.

The City faithful belted out ‘Johnny, Johnny Stones’ and the defender was then thrust forward with the cup. He spoke of City having given him everything in his statement when he announced his departure, he’s got one more medal for the collection. As has Bernardo Silva, who followed him to the West End swinging the silverware in the capital air with a smile as wide as the Thames.

Then came the manager, pushed forward by his players to take the acclaim from a fanbase who adore him.

It was a 20th trophy for Guardiola at City. The magic doesn’t wear off.

Phil Foden was an unused substitute as Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 in the FA Cup final and he was asked about Pep Guardiola’s future after the game.

Phil Foden would love Pep Guardiola to stay at Manchester City for another year after the Blues boss masterminded a 20th trophy in his decade in charge.

City beat Chelsea 1-0 to claim a domestic cup double and keep alive hopes of a treble heading into the final two Premier League games of the campaign.

The Blues need a favour from either Burnley or Crystal Palace to have any chance of overhauling Arsenal but the signs are there that this City vintage can challenge the best and bring sustained silverware to the Etihad.

But it remains to be seen whether Guardiola will be there to oversee it with a growing expectation that the Catalan will depart in the summer. The Blues boss has had ample opportunity to provide clarity but has yet to do so and while he is under contract for another 12 months, that is no guarantee of him extending his Etihad stay into an 11th year.

But Foden, who was an unused sub at Wembley, would love to see the 55-year-old stay on at City.

“To play with him now for so many years has been a blessing,” he said. “He’s certainly helped my game.

“I’m really happy that he’s still here at the moment and let’s see what happens at the end of the season. Hopefully he can be here next season.

“All I can say is it’s been a pleasure playing under him.”

Aaron Rodgers took his time deciding whether to return to Pittsburgh, but the reunion finally happened Saturday night. According to multiple reports, Rodgers signed a one-year deal worth up to $25 million for the 2026 campaign.

Fantasy managers should view Rodgers, 42, as a desperation play in one-quarterback leagues, and he’s not worth drafting in those formats. In Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, Rodgers is worth a mid- to late-round pick.

Ideally, Rodgers will play well now that he’s back with Mike McCarthy, who was hired this offseason to replace Mike Tomlin. McCarthy coached Rodgers for 13 seasons in Green Bay.

We also hope the combination of Rodgers and McCarthy will help the Fantasy value for the receivers in Pittsburgh, namely DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman and Germie Bernard. More on them below.

First, let’s look at Rodgers, who had some positive moments in 2025 with the Steelers, but he only averaged 17.2 Fantasy points per game. He passed for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions, and he added 61 rushing yards and a touchdown. He only had six games with more than 20 Fantasy points in 17 games, including the playoffs.

McCarthy’s offense should benefit Rodgers more than the system he had in 2025 under former offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. McCarthy helped Rodgers average at least 21.5 Fantasy points per game in every season they were together with the Packers from 2006-18. And McCarthy helped Dak Prescott average at least 20.4 Fantasy points per game in four of five years when they were together in Dallas.

That version of Rodgers and Prescott was in their prime, so it’s hard to have high expectations for Rodgers in 2026. But the Steelers improved their receiving corps with the addition of Pittman and Bernard, and Rodgers could surprise us now that he’s back with McCarthy.

I still like Metcalf more than Pittman, but both should be considered No. 3 Fantasy receivers at best. Metcalf had a down season in 2025 in his first season in Pittsburgh with 12.5 PPR points per game, which was his lowest total since his rookie campaign in 2019. 

Metcalf, with Rodgers, had 59 catches for 850 yards and six touchdowns on 99 targets. I expect Metcalf’s targets to rise, but the earliest he should be drafted is Round 8 in the majority of leagues.

Pittman is also worth drafting as early as Round 8, and he just averaged 11.9 PPR points in his final season with the Colts in 2025. He had 80 catches for 784 yards and seven touchdowns on 111 targets.

Pittman might get more targets and receptions than Metcalf, given the expected routes for both. But Metcalf still offers more upside given his big-play ability.

As for Bernard, the second-round rookie from Alabama is worth drafting as a late-round flier in seasonal leagues. In rookie-only drafts for dynasty leagues, Bernard is worth a second-round pick. He just had 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games in 2025.

The Fantasy value for the tight ends (Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth) and running backs (Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle) doesn’t change much with Rodgers back. Either Washington or Freiermuth could become a streaming option during the season, but neither is worth drafting. And Warren and Dowdle should be considered high-end flex options on Draft Day.

I like Warren slightly better than Dowdle since Warren should have a larger role in the passing game. But Dowdle and McCarthy were together in Dallas, and their history could help Dowdle emerge as the No. 1 running back in Pittsburgh this season. I would draft Warren as early as Round 6, and Dowdle should be selected in Round 7.

We’re glad Rodgers is back in 2026. Hopefully, he can have one more productive season with McCarthy before he likely retires after this year.

Tonight in Doncaster, trainer Jamie Moore threw in the towel in the third round to prevent Dave Allen from taking any further punishment at the heavy hands of Filip Hrgovic.

Allen was a significant underdog on paper, and once the opening bell rang, events unfolded exactly as many expected, even despite a vocal home support at the Eco-Power Stadium.

Hrgovic outgunned the Brit from the off and did not relent until the towel came in, with Allen throwing wild and landing little in return. Though he looked disappointed in the moment, the hometown hero said post-fight that he trusts his trainers, Moore and Nigel Travis, implicitly.

“These two, they’ve been with me through it all. I love them to death. If Jamie and Nige say enough’s enough, enough’s enough. Thank you for looking after me. If Jamie and Nige think the stoppage is the right choice, it’s the right choice.”

Allen made no excuses for his loss, saying that Hrgovic is simply too good for him, and he thanked his fans for the support regardless.

Few will argue with Moore’s call, particularly given Hrgovic’s reputation as one of the division’s most durable heavyweights, making the chances of Allen landing one decisive shot increasingly slim. His decision, and it would not have been an easy one with the vocal crowd, allows his man to drop back down a level and fight another day.

Moore’s decision comes at a time amid ongoing debate on whether or not Ben Davison and team should have pulled Fabio Wardley out of his gruelling battle with Daniel Dubois earlier than the referee stoppage in the eleventh round. Tonight, Allen’s team wanted to leave nothing to chance.
