Travis Kelce is addressing the viral courtside moment that showed him chugging a beer during an NBA playoff game with his fiancée, Taylor Swift.

The NFL star said he was trying to lift the atmosphere as the Cleveland Cavaliers trailed the New York Knicks, calling it a “classy” and controlled celebration.

When the clip of the moment hit the internet, fans were divided, with some Taylor Swift fans branding it a “red flag” moment, especially due to her reaction.

During the May 27 episode of “New Heights,” Travis brushed off the buzz over his viral courtside beer moment with a bit of humor and pride, speaking with his brother Jason Kelce about the clip that showed him quickly finishing a beer while attending a basketball game with fiancée Taylor Swift.

Jason brought it up first, and Travis didn’t shy away from it. “That was a classy chug, Jason,” he joked, per E! News.

Travis continued, “Didn’t spill one drop. Didn’t crush the can. I’m on a hardwood floor at an NBA game, could’ve got messy. It was a smooth, classy chug to get the people going.”

The Kansas City Chiefs star explained that the energy in the arena played a big role in his spontaneous celebration, noting the intensity of the May 23 matchup between the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena, where the Knicks came out on top.

“We’re down 10 f-cking points,” he said, explaining he was simply trying to lift the mood. “I’m trying to get some type of f-cking energy going in the building.”

Jason Kelce Hilariously Breaks Down Travis Kelce’s Viral Courtside Beer Chug Moment

The moment played out as Taylor Swift’s Ready For It blasted through the arena speakers. Travis stood up, downed the drink, tipped his hat to nearby fans, and soaked in the cheers.

Swift, who was seated beside him, was seen laughing and applauding along, while partially covering her face.

Jason later turned the clip into a full comedic breakdown during the podcast episode, praising his brother’s unexpectedly polished technique.

“It wasn’t like too much energy,” he joked. “It was just the right amount, and it was smooth, just like everything you do. You are a smooth athlete. You run around smoothly, you have a smooth golf swing, and you’re a smooth chugger.”

Jason also pointed out how unfazed Travis looked when the drink started foaming up mid-chug. “It’s not even touching the lips, no form of panic,” he laughed while replaying the clip. “It started to foam a little bit. You didn’t even panic when the foam started coming up.”

The beer-chugging moment became one of the biggest talking points from the couple’s courtside date night, which also included a sweet kiss captured by cameras during the game.

Throughout the matchup, Swift and Travis appeared fully invested as they cheered on the Cavaliers, a team Travis has supported since growing up in nearby Cleveland Heights.

However, online reactions to the viral clip were somewhat harsh, as social media users criticized Travis’ behavior, calling the moment immature and saying that Swift was engaged to a “36-year-old frat boy.”

“Red flag right here. It’s not too late to run, Tay Tay!” an X user commented, while another wrote, “I had an ex that would do stuff like that, and it was so embarrassing.”

A fourth person stated, “The only thing more embarrassing than him was the Cavs’ performance on the court.”

Others speculated about what the interaction could supposedly mean for the future of their relationship.

Amid the backlash, many fans rushed to defend the NFL star, arguing he was enjoying himself and that Swift clearly found the moment funny rather than embarrassing.

“A woman that lets her man do him!! They’ll be together for a while,” one supporter commented online.

Another said, “I love that his personality is so large that he is also the center of attention, and she loves seeing him shine.”

Despite the excitement inside the arena, the Cleveland Cavaliers ultimately lost to the New York Knicks 121-108.

Wedding Rumors Swirl As Alleged Guest Complains Over No Plus-One At Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce Event

Meanwhile, speculation surrounding the couple’s relationship continues to grow. Recent rumors have claimed that alleged save-the-dates were sent out for a possible July 3 wedding in New York City, though neither Swift nor Travis has publicly confirmed the reports.

The chatter intensified further after reports surfaced claiming that at least one alleged guest was unhappy with the wedding arrangements.

According to the Daily Mail, an unnamed invitee reportedly complained about not being allowed to bring a plus-one, saying attending solo would feel uncomfortable because they supposedly wouldn’t know many other guests.

“My invite did not let me bring a plus-one,” the unnamed guest reportedly said. “I mean, what am I supposed to do? Go alone? That is so awkward. I don’t think I am going to attend because I don’t want to go by myself, and I am not sure I will know too many people there. I mean, sorry, I am not friends with Gigi and Bella Hadid!”

Despite the claims, Swift and Kelce have yet to make any announcements about their wedding, with the singer reportedly trying to keep things under wraps as much as possible.

Netflix’s 2-Part ‘White Lotus’ Rival Officially Returns Tomorrow

Published

on

w09xeyl096pwes8rirmzwea9rnh.jpg

HBO has released plenty of flagship properties over the last 5–10 years, but few have developed the same level of following as The White Lotus. Written and directed solely by Mike White, HBO has unleashed three full seasons of The White Lotus into the world, and there’s no sign of the show going anywhere anytime soon. Cameras are now rolling on The White Lotus Season 4, and despite a minor setback, the show is expected to air before the end of next year. Helena Bonham Carter had previously been cast in a key role in The White Lotus Season 4, but unexpectedly departed the project after production began, which led to her being recast with Laura Dern. It will not be Dern’s first time starring in the HBO anthology series, since she had a small voice-only role in Season 2.

When any show gets as popular as The White Lotus, it’s only natural for other streaming services to begin searching for suitable alternatives. For Netflix, The Four Seasons has landedas its most prominent White Lotus replacement, and while there are some differences worth nitpicking, the similarities are hard to deny. The Four Seasons lacks the same HBO prestige-level production as The White Lotus, but it does feature a group of tight-knit friends traveling to different locations as a tragedy looms. The first season of The Four Seasons aired on Netflix late last year, and while the ending didn’t exactly set up a clear Season 2, the show was renewed for a sophomore season. The Four Seasons Season 2 is officially confirmed to release tomrrow, May 28, after Netflix debuted the first trailer for the second season not long ago.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

‘Summer House’ Fans Rally Around KJ After Sad Admission

Published

on

KJ Dillard at the

KJ Dillard spent the last season of “Summer House” sharing more of his personal life with viewers, and during part one of the reunion, he made a heartbreaking admission. According to Dillard, 29, he spent some time in a hospital after season 10 of the hit Bravo series wrapped to focus on his mental health.

When host Andy Cohen went around the couch to speak with the “Summer House” cast members about how things have been for them following the end of the season, Dillard emotionally revealed he’d dealt with frightening mental health struggles.

“In the fall, I went through some heavy stuff mentally,” Dillard struggled to say. “I actually had to go to the hospital for self-harm, and I was there for a week.”

Dillard began fighting back tears, revealing that his co-stars, Ciara Miller and Mia Calabrese, visited him “almost every day” when he was hospitalized before stating he then spent “a few months” in recovery.

According to Dillard, spending time in recovery allowed him the chance to focus on himself. “I got to focus on myself, and I needed that because I think my whole life I distracted myself and ran away from my issues instead of facing them head-on, but now I’m better,” he said.

He added, “I’m in therapy, and I’m on medication. I got diagnosed with [borderline personality disorder] while I was in the hospital.”

Dillard Told His ‘Summer House’ Co-Stars That He Was Grateful To Be Alive

Elsewhere in the episode, Dillard expressed gratitude to his co-stars for the support they’ve shown him and said he was thankful to be alive.

“Everyone here has somewhat shown support in their own way, so I appreciate that,” Dillard told Cohen. “And I’m very thankful that the audience is just embracing that because it’s my truth, you know, and I’m not gonna not be honest about what I go through, especially if it can help others.”

Dillard’s story hit some of his castmates hard, specifically Jesse Solomon, who was choked up by it. “It’s a moving story,” Solomon, 33, stated. “I feel for you, and I’m glad you’re good ’cause I don’t want anybody to go through that, so I’m happy he’s feeling better.”

‘Summer House’ Fans Are Rallying Around Dillard Following His Candid Confession

Solomon wasn’t the only one moved by Dillard’s story. Online, “Summer House” fans praised the Bravo newbie for his candor and bravery.

“Wow..the courage he showed is astounding. Poor baby Angel, ugh, it hurts my heart he went through this,” someone posted, while another said, “Sending nothing but positive vibes and support to KJ. Navigating public life while working on your mental well-being isn’t easy, and it’s great to see him prioritizing his health.”

Another user commended Dillard for sharing his truth on a “massive platform” like Bravo. “Wishing KJ Dillard nothing but the best on his journey toward healing and growing.”

A fourth netizen posted, “Seeing reality TV stars open up about real-life challenges like this is so important. It completely breaks down the stigma around getting help and reminds everyone that mental health matters.”

Dillard Threw Shade At His Former Friend, West Wilson

Prior to the “Summer House” reunion, Dillard threw shade at his former friend, West Wilson, on Instagram.

Following Wilson’s confession that he’s dating Amanda Batula, his ex-girlfriend’s (Miller) former best friend, Dillard posted a screenshot of a song by The O’Jays called “Back Stabbers.”

“Logging off…” he captioned the post, according to a previous report from The Blast.

What Did Wilson Text Dillard Following The Reunion?

Dillard and Wilson came face-to-face for the first time since his Instagram post at the “Summer House” reunion, which began airing last night, May 26.

Before that, though, Dillard admitted on an episode of “Watch What Happens Live” that Wilson actually texted him following the reunion, but he wasn’t ready to respond.

When Cohen pressed Dillard to read the message on TV, Dillard complied.

In his message, Wilson thanked Dillard for showing kindness during the heated sit-down gathering. “I’ve been off social, and I think I lost touch with how much hurt there was. I’m incredibly sorry,” he said.

Regarding his mental health, Wilson said he was sending his former friend “love,” acknowledging that he “shared a lot.”

“… I’m always rooting for the best for you. I know it will take some time, but whenever you feel like you’re ready, lunch or a phone call would mean a lot in the spirit of healing. No need to respond. Take your time,” Wilson’s message finished.

Young and Restless Early Spoilers June 1-5: Matt Apologizes & Kyle Panics Badly!

Published

on

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) - Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor)

Young and the Restless spoilers for June 1-5, 2026 see Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) still amnesiac and apologizing for the crimes he does not remember. Plus, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) panics when his mom goes missing.

We’re going to get into the latest spoilers for the week of June 1st-5th and as we always do on early edition day, we’re going to start with what is happening the rest of this week and then we’ll get into what is coming in the week ahead. So, let’s get right to it.

Young and the Restless Spoilers Wednesday, May 27th:

On Wednesday, May 27th, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) tells Devon Hamilton Winters (Bryton James) and Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) that Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) doing great and they toast to his recovery. And Nate and Devon start griping when Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) calls and Lily pushes back because saved Malcolm’s life.

And then Lily tells Devon he needs to get over his anger and she leaves annoyed with both of the guys. Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) joins Devon and Nate leaves them to talk when he senses some sort of vibe between Abby and Devon. He’s griping to Abby that Lily is getting close to Cane again. And Abby says Cane did a good thing for Malcolm. Abby thinks this is about Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) more than it’s about Cane.

And she says Devon’s anger isn’t diminishing and her husband agrees. He tells Abby that he went to see Mariah and that she said all of his feelings are justified, but she’s hoping Devon won’t be consumed by anger and pain. And then he tells Abby he’s more angry at himself for failing to protect Dominic Winters (Ethan Ray Clark). And now he’s hurting them both with all this anger he’s holding in.

Y&R Spoilers: Victoria Worries about Nick

Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) tells Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) that she suspects Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) is still using. And Nikki says recovery is a journey, but Victoria thinks he’s lying about rehab. Nikki blames herself for Nick’s addiction, but Victoria says it’s Matt’s fault.

And Nikki tells her that Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) offered to be Nick’s sponsor despite all the things Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has done to him. Lily goes to the Cane train and he’s got roses and champagne and wants Lily to stay for a romantic dinner. And she tells Cane that she, Holden Novak (Nathan Owels), and Stephanie are getting along. Cane talks about his legal issues and says they likely hinge on whether Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) gives Newman back, but the evidence is bogus. And Lily teases, “Maybe, but you actually did the thing.” Cane jokes if Lily wants him in prison, and she laughs.

And Lily says Victor is not going to stop until he has everything he lost back. Cane mentions the fake kidnapping and he wants to know what Victor promised her. And Lily admits it’s Chancellor because she thinks it should be in Devon’s hands. They debate if Victor is playing her. And Cane says Victor can’t give Chancellor back till he gets Newman back. Cane says that he thinks that Lily will wind up with Chancellor in the end. And after dinner, she kisses Cane several times. It’s kind of steamy. And Lily leaves with a smile on her face.

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nate interrupts Nikki and Victoria

Nate interrupts Nikki and Victoria and Nikki takes off and then Nate and Victoria catch up about Malcolm and Holden. And then Victoria starts asking him about opioid addiction. Nate talks about how hard it is and that addicts may avoid treatment out of shame and that family support is critical.

Phyllis, meanwhile, is mad that Nick brought Victor along to scoop up Matt. And Victor’s annoyed that Phyllis was going behind his back with Nick. And when Matt asks if Phyllis sold him out, she denies it and asks Matt to let her sort things out. She tells Nick and Victor that Matt has changed and is harmless. They disagree. Sharon, Noah Newman, and Sienna show up, and Noah lunges for Matt, but Sienna holds him back. Matt insists he wants to make amends.

Victor says Matt’s reign of terror is over. And Phyllis tries to argue about the deal they made, but Victor says, “You’re not in control here.” Matt doesn’t know Sienna, but he says he’s heard they were married and she cheated with Noah. And Sharon doubts his amnesia, but Matt says he doesn’t even know her at all.

Young and Restless Spoilers: Nick Doesn’t Believe Matt

Nick also calls BS on the amnesia and says Matt’s going to go down for his crimes, whether he remembers them or not. And Matt says he does know that Nick hit him and that Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) screwed his wife. And Matt’s not sure how he’s the villain in all this. Then Nick blows up and Phyllis again tries to defend Matt.

Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun tests his memory and Matt says he remembers her hitting him with a rock and trying to kill him. Sienna calls it self-defense. Sharon brings up the gas station explosion and Matt doesn’t remember that either. Phyllis tells Nick that he is not going to take the law into his hands and hurt Matt. And then Victor and Nick both get aggressive and Matt says he’s sorry.

He’s actually apologizing. Nick dials Detective Burrow (Matt Cohen) and then Newman’s kind of panic because they worry Nick’s going to try that self-defense murder thing with Matt that he was cooking up where he said he’d kill him and Burrow would see it was self-defense and would cover.

Nick won’t listen, and he wants to do it his way and Phyllis wants to know what they’re talking about because she doesn’t know about this plan. Then all of a sudden, Nick collapses to the floor unresponsive and Matt tells them that Nick is having an overdose.

Thursday, May 28th on Y&R: Nikki is Haunted

Thursday, May 28th, Nikki’s dreams are haunting her. We’ll see if it’s before or after she finds out that Nick OD’d again. This week, Holden and Claire Grace Newman (Hayley Erin) have a very sweet moment together. They are getting much, much closer. Victor shocks everybody with a decision about Nick’s addiction. I’m very curious if Victor is going to agree to let Jack sponsor Nick and help him because Jack’s been through this exact same set of circumstances.

Stephanie and Holden get an update on Malcolm. I expect positive news. In Nikki’s room at the GCAC this week, she’s telling Victoria she has a really bad headache that it went away and it’s back and now it’s worse. And then later, Victoria goes looking for help from Jack. She runs into him at Crimson Lights and Victoria may ask Jack if he’ll go see Nick or if you know she may be wanting Jack to go check on Nikki if she’s that worried about her mom.

Young and Restless Spoilers Friday, May 29th: Phyllis Sets Patty Straight

Friday, May 29th, now that the Newmans have Matt, we’re going to see Phyllis chatting with Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) and Phyllis offers Patty a history lesson. I suspect Phyllis might tell Patty about the Newman’s awful history with Matt and the terrible crimes he’s done to Sharon, to Nick, to Noah, Sienna, and a lot of others.

And it looks like Detective Burrow did not get that call from Nick because this week the Newmans have Matt in the little gym room at the new ranch locked in. Nick’s back on his feet after his latest collapse and facing off with Matt there.

Kyle tells Jack that he’s worried about his mom and he says Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) hasn’t been to work in two days. Her bed hasn’t been slept in at the GCAC. Kyle says none of this is normal. Nikki and Victor team up to force Nick to deal with his addiction the right way by the end of the week on Young and the Restless.

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Matt Clark – Kyle Abbott

Week of June 1st-5th on Y&R

Then the week of June 1st through the 5th, word of Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Sally Spectra’s (Courtney Hope) engagement and baby news starts to spread since Adam already told Chelsea. I don’t know why Billy’s blabbing the baby news. Because if you remember, Sally didn’t want it widely known. She wanted it to be in a very small circle until she was ready to tell people. Billy’s already violated her trust. Of course, she’ll let it slide.

Hopefully, we’re going to get a peek at Malcolm during his recovery. I know Shemar Moore has filmed more scenes, so we will see Malcolm at some point in the next few weeks. We should also see Cane and Lily continuing to bond and dancing around their romantic feelings that are rekindling.

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki in a Health Crisis?

Nikki may be facing a health crisis because of all the stress in her life. Matt’s memories aren’t back. So, hurting him while he’s an amnesiac is like shooting fish in a barrel. So, we’ll see if the Newman’s hand him over, you know, call Christine to have the cops get him since there’s a warrant out on him.

Or maybe they want to keep Matt for now, hoping his memories will return and then they can take vengeance. We’ll see what the Newman’s do to force Nick to kick the fentanyl habit and look for more on where Diane is, what’s going on with her, and whether she’s in danger, because I’m very worried that Patty has a hold of her.

Ciara Miller Unsure About Returning To ‘Summer House’

Published

on

Ciara MIller, Summer House.

Ciara Miller is unsure whether she’ll return to “Summer House” for another season. After being betrayed by her former best friend, Amanda Batula, and her ex-boyfriend, West Wilson, Miller has had to deal with a lot of heavy feelings. According to a source, while she’s on the fence about her return, there’s a strong chance she may come back for one final season.

A source told Us Weekly that Miller could return for season 11 of “Summer House,” but she’s still making up her mind. “Ciara is thinking about coming back to the house,” the insider said. “Likely for one last season to prove a point.”

Per the source, Miller’s schedule will be booked and busy in the coming months, filming “Dancing With the Stars” and “Love Island Aftersun,” meaning the reality star “hasn’t made a final decision yet.”

The insider explained that Miller, who joined the “Summer House” cast in 2021, is “leaning towards going back for one more season,” adding that “there is a chance she will face Amanda and West.”

‘Summer House’ Cast Reportedly Doesn’t Believe Miller Will Return For Another Season

The “Summer House” cast, though, reportedly doesn’t believe Miller, 30, will come back to the show “because they don’t think she will face them.”

The source went on to say that Miller’s friend, Kyle Cooke, could make a comeback despite being on the “Summer House” spin-off, “In The City.”

Regarding Wilson, the insider claimed he may not be asked back to the series because of his alleged lies throughout the season.

“Producers may not even ask West to come back because he was lying to them about other women he was dating, and producers are not happy that he’s been lying to everyone,” they said. “Kyle, Ciara, the rest of the cast have been vulnerable, at least about who they were dating.”

Wilson Is Worried About His Relationships With His ‘Summer House’ Co-Stars

On a recent episode of Wilson’s “Show Me Something” podcast, the Missouri native said that he recently spoke with Cooke, who was married to his now girlfriend, Batula, about their strained friendship.

“I’m not going to say [we’re] good. Nothing’s, like, perfect right now, but we talked for like three hours on Wednesday,” the sports journalist said.

Wilson added, “I offered. I was like, ‘Dude, I’m not trying to get to a better place with you for this f-cking show. I do care about you as a friend, and this doesn’t need to be filmed.’”

Cooke, however, shot back, insisting that the conversation be filmed because they’ve spent the last several years showcasing their lives to the audience.

“Kyle was like, ‘This all happened. Our lives have been on camera. Might as well just film it,” Wilson said.

According to a previous report from The Blast, Miller came face-to-face with Batula and Wilson during part 1 of the “Summer House” reunion on May 26.

During the episode, Miller unleashed on Batula, branding her as a sneaky “snake in the grass” for dating her ex.

As the episode was coming to a close, Miller told host Andy Cohen that he believed Wilson and Batula would work for a specific reason.

“I honestly think that the best, like, woman for West is, like, someone who’s not gonna check him on anything, and that’s totally Amanda,” she said. “She’s very mute. She’s gonna be that weak figure that he needs, and he can always be the star in the relationship. So, I actually think, like, maybe it could work.”

The Reunion Continues In June 2026

That wasn’t all Miller had to say. In the reunion trailer, Miller expressed her disappointment with Batula for betraying her, reminding Batula that she’d been her “champion” for the last six years.

“I couldn’t fathom that I would be sitting here pissed that you’re f–king my ex,” she said. “He wants to embarrass me. He wants to get his last little words in. And I hope it works, because he’s with you to spite me.”

Part 2 continues on Bravo on June 2, 2026, at 8 PM EST.

A24’s New Horror Obsession Is Already One of the Best-Reviewed Thrillers of the Year

Published

on

vpknmkbisv5ctaifczuduyzxnjb.jpg

A24 has a rich history with horror, so much so that it is the flagship distributor associated with the modern renaissance of the genre. From Toni Collette‘s Oscar-worthy performance in Hereditary and the unsettling black and white atmosphere of Robert EggersThe Lighthouse, to the film debut of Anya Taylor-Joy in The Witch and the genius of Under the Skin, a lot of the best horror of the past 15 years has hailed from the champions of indie darlings at A24.

Following the relative quiet of their last horror release, the supernatural spectacle Undertone, A24 is ready to debut what promises to be one of the most talked-about horror movies of the year. Based on a viral 4chan creepypasta — as so many scary stories are — Backrooms takes Renate Reinsve, who recently earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in Joachim Trier‘s Sentimental Value, and partners her with the ever-brilliant Chiwetel Ejiofor for a viewing experience sure to crawl into your nightmares and make itself at home. The film follows the sudden appearance of an unlikely doorway in a furniture showroom, and the hellish, strange world that is unlocked for a therapist looking for her lost patient.

Directed by YouTuber creator-turned-filmmaker Kane Parsons in his feature debut, the film is already predicted to earn upwards of $50 million in its first weekend. Should it achieve this feat, or even if it were to fall just short, it would shatter the record currently held by Civil War for A24’s biggest debut to date. However, this possibility somewhat hinged on the first responses of critics. Thankfully, now that the embargo has lifted and those responses are in, Backrooms is proving very popular, scoring an impressive 80% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, from 45 submissions at the time of writing.

Camp Crystal Lake · Friday the 13th

Jason Voorhees

Jason is relentless, but he is also predictable — and that is the gap you would exploit.

  • He moves in straight lines toward his target. He doesn’t strategise, doesn’t adapt, doesn’t outsmart. He simply pursues.
  • Your ability to keep moving, use the environment, and resist the panic that freezes most victims gives you a genuine edge.
  • The Crystal Lake survivors were always the ones who stopped running in circles and started thinking about terrain, water, and distance.
  • You think like that. Which means Jason, for all his indestructibility, would face someone who simply refused to be where he expected.

Haddonfield, Illinois · Halloween

Michael Myers

Michael watches before he moves. He is patient, methodical, and almost impossible to detect — until it’s too late for anyone who isn’t paying close enough attention.

  • But you are paying attention. You notice the shape in the window, the car parked slightly wrong, the silence where there should be sound.
  • Michael’s power lies in the invisibility of ordinary suburbia — the fact that nothing ever looks wrong until it already is.
  • Your spatial awareness and instinct to map every room, every exit, and every shadow before you need them is precisely the quality Laurie Strode had.
  • You are not a victim waiting to happen. You are someone who already suspects something is wrong — and acts on it.

Elm Street · A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger

Freddy wins by getting inside your head — using your own fears, your own memories, your own subconscious as weapons against you. That strategy requires a target who can be destabilised.

  • You are harder to destabilise than most. You’ve faced uncomfortable truths about yourself and you haven’t looked away.
  • The survivors on Elm Street were always the ones who understood what was happening and chose to face it rather than flee from it.
  • Freddy’s greatest weakness is that his power evaporates in the presence of someone who refuses to give him the fear he feeds on.
  • Your psychological resilience — the ability to stay grounded when reality itself becomes unreliable — is exactly the quality that keeps you alive here.

Derry, Maine · It

Pennywise

Pennywise is ancient, shapeshifting, and feeds on terror — but it has one critical vulnerability: it cannot function against someone who genuinely stops being afraid of it.

  • The Losers Club didn’t survive because they were braver than everyone else. They survived because they faced their fears together, and faced them honestly.
  • You ask the questions others avoid. You look directly at what frightens you rather than turning away.
  • That directness — the refusal to let fear fester in the dark — is Pennywise’s worst nightmare.
  • It chose the wrong target when it chose you. You are exactly the kind of person whose fear tastes like nothing at all.

Chicago · Child’s Play

Chucky

Chucky’s greatest advantage is that nobody takes him seriously until it’s already too late. He exploits the gap between how something looks and what it actually is.

  • You don’t have that gap. You take threats seriously regardless of how they present — and you never make the mistake of underestimating something because of its size or appearance.
  • Chucky relies on surprise, on the delay between recognition and response. You close that delay faster than almost anyone.
  • Your instinct to treat every unfamiliar thing with appropriate scepticism — rather than dismissing it because it seems absurd — is the exact quality that keeps you breathing.
  • Against Chucky, not laughing is already winning. You are very good at not laughing.

What Are Critics Saying About ‘Backrooms’?

The thoughts of audiences remain to be seen, but critics seem to unanimously agree that Backrooms is vying for the title of the year’s most popular horror film. In Aidan Kelleys review for Collider, he dubbed the film “near-flawless,” later calling it “one of the unique and intriguing horror properties of the decade, let alone of the year.” CBR called the film “an impressive debut for Parsons,” with ScreenRant labeling it “a quietly terrifying piece of liminal horror.”

Backrooms hit theaters this weekend. Stay tuned to Collider for more stories.
