But after New York‘s title run, Dolan’s position is simple: there is no obvious reason to sell a team that has only become more valuable. That message arrived with the Knicks at the strongest point of his ownership era.

Dolan addressed the possibility of selling the Knicks to Musk in comments shared by NBA Base on X, and his answer did not leave much room for speculation.

“No, I don’t think we’re going to sell the team. We’ve been at this for a long time and I’m gonna enjoy this team,” Dolan said.

He added, “The stock of the team has gone up dramatically in the last year and there’s really no reason for us to consider [selling the Knicks to Elon Musk].”

The verdict matters because Musk’s net worth has been reported as around $1.3 trillion, giving him a level of buying power few people in the world could match.

Even then, Dolan’s answer made clear that the issue is not whether a buyer could afford the Knicks. For Dolan, the timing points in the opposite direction.

The Knicks have just delivered the kind of success that dramatically strengthens the franchise’s brand, fan energy and business value.

“I think in some instances they play better without him,” fan Zach Mallias said during Portugal’s first open World Cup training session.

“There are other players that fit the system better.”

Others, however, see Ronaldo’s leadership and experience as irreplaceable.

“He’s one of those guys you want kicking the penalty kicks for you, being on the pitch at the end of the game,” supporter Rob Stickle said.

Recent form suggests Ronaldo still matters

Despite concerns surrounding his age, Ronaldo arrives at the World Cup with encouraging form behind him.

The forward played a crucial role in Portugal’s 2025 UEFA Nations League triumph, scoring eight goals during the campaign, including an equaliser in the final against Spain.

He also guided Al-Nassr to the Saudi Pro League title, finishing as the club’s leading scorer with 28 goals.

Those numbers have strengthened the belief within the Portugal camp that Ronaldo remains capable of influencing matches at the highest level.

Midfielder Vitinha admitted he is still amazed by Ronaldo’s physical condition.

“He’s 41. I’m 26, and I’m not like that,” the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder said through a translator.

“It’s something incredible.”

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez has even suggested Ronaldo could remain active until the 2030 World Cup, when he would be 45.

  Portugal focused on the present

While Ronaldo’s presence dominates headlines, Portugal insist they are concentrating on the bigger objective — winning their first World Cup title.

The squad is widely regarded as one of the strongest in the tournament, featuring talents such as Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Rafael Leao, Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias.

Yet players have repeatedly stressed the importance of taking the competition one match at a time.

“We have not talked about putting the high pressure on our team,” Vitinha said.

“All competitions are won by focusing on the present moment and not worrying about future outcomes.

“What we can do is think game by game. … We would love to win, and if we go through the group stage, we will go one game at a time.”

The team also carries an emotional motivation after the death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota in a car crash last year. Portugal Prime Minister recently presented every player with a bracelet bearing both their name and Jota’s name before the tournament.

“We have received this with a lot of love,” Vitinha said.

Heat could be an additional challenge

Portugal have based themselves in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where temperatures have regularly crossed 30 degrees Celsius.

The conditions have already raised concerns ahead of a tournament being played across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“Obviously the physical question is very important,” Vitinha said.

“The weather conditions will very much affect how we play, but that is for everybody.

“There are no excuses. There are no conditions that can keep us from giving everything for our national team.”

England kicked off their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with an impressive 4-2 victory over Croatia in Dallas, earning a measure of revenge for their painful 2018 World Cup semifinal defeat and underlining their credentials as one of the tournament favourites.

In a thrilling Group L encounter, Harry Kane scored twice while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also found the net as Thomas Tuchel’s side overcame a spirited Croatian challenge.

Kane opens the scoring after VAR intervention

Croatia started brightly and looked dangerous down both flanks during the opening exchanges, but England gradually gained control through the midfield pairing of Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson.

The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when Noni Madueke was brought down inside the penalty area by Luka Modric. Kane initially saw his penalty saved by Dominik Livakovic, but VAR ordered a retake after the goalkeeper was adjudged to have moved off his line. The England captain made no mistake at the second attempt, calmly converting to put his side ahead.

England continued to threaten and nearly doubled their lead through Jude Bellingham, whose close-range effort was brilliantly defended.

Croatia hit back twice before the break

Despite England’s growing dominance, Croatia found an equaliser through a moment of individual brilliance. Martin Baturina unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box in the 36th minute to make it 1-1.

England responded swiftly. From a corner, Kane rose highest and powered a header into the far corner in the 42nd minute to restore the Three Lions’ advantage.

Bellingham sparks England’s second-half dominance

England needed just one minute after the restart to regain the lead.

Kane turned provider with a superb long pass from deep inside his own half, releasing Bellingham behind the Croatian defence. The midfielder kept his composure and slotted past Livakovic to make it 3-2 in the 46th minute.

The goal shifted momentum firmly in England’s favour.

Croatia struggled to cope with England’s intensity as Rice, Anderson and Bellingham repeatedly drove forward. Livakovic was forced into a series of outstanding saves, denying Rice from distance before producing a remarkable double stop from O’Reilly and Anthony Gordon following another dangerous corner.

The Croatian goalkeeper single-handedly kept his side in the contest as England continued to create chances.

Rashford seals the victory

With Croatia chasing another equaliser, Tuchel freshened his attack by introducing Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Morgan Rogers.

The substitutes played a decisive role late on. In the 85th minute, a flowing England move carved open the Croatian defence and Rashford finished confidently into the bottom corner after excellent work from a fellow substitute to make it 4-2.

That goal effectively ended Croatia’s hopes of another comeback.

England lay down an early marker

While Croatia showed flashes of quality through Baturina, Perisic and Modric, England’s superior athleticism, midfield control and threat from set-pieces ultimately proved decisive.

Kane finished with two goals and an assist, Bellingham produced another influential display, while Rice controlled the tempo throughout the second half.

Most importantly for Tuchel, England displayed both attacking flair and resilience in overcoming Croatia’s repeated responses.

The victory sends England to the top of Group L and provides the perfect start to their quest for a first World Cup title since 1966, while Croatia are left needing a response in their next group fixture after a difficult opening night.

Warren Barton was hit by a beer during his World Cup 2026 commentary duties in Colombia’s 3-1 win over Uzbekistan while “dripping with blood.”

Barton was at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City to team up with Jacqui Oatley during the Fox broadcast.

Luis Diaz had inspired Los Cafeteros to victory, assisting the opener and scoring a second either side of Abbosbek Fayzullaev’s historic first goal for Uzbekistan at a World Cup.

And Jaminton Campaz sent the Azteca wild in stoppage time with a third goal for Colombia to lift them top of Group K and ahead of Portugal, who were held by DR Congo earlier on Wednesday.

The wild atmosphere saw both commentators drenched with beer in the first half after Daniel Munoz broke the deadlock.

And Barton appeared to be hit by a projectile in the closing stages of the contest, but persevered with the commentary to the end, which saw a frantic finale, including Campaz’s stoppage time strike.

Oatley concluded the broadcast by stating: “Nobody in Mexico City is going to get much sleep tonight.”

Ghana secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama thanks to Caleb Yirenkyi’s stoppage-time winner in their first Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Just when the game appeared destined to end goalless, Yirenkyi struck in the 95th minute to hand the Black Stars a priceless three points and move them into second place in the group behind England.

The winning goal came after excellent work from Brandon Thomas-Asante down the left flank. The Coventry City forward skipped past a challenge from Panama defender Jose Cordoba before delivering a low cross into the box. Yirenkyi arrived at the far post to turn the ball into the empty net, sparking wild celebrations among Ghana’s players and supporters.

The match had been a tense and closely fought contest with few clear chances. Panama looked set to earn the first World Cup point in their history and even pushed their goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera forward for a late corner in search of a winner.

However, Ghana held firm before producing the decisive moment deep into added time.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz praised his players after the match, saying his side executed their game plan perfectly.

“First we had to suffer, we battled like warriors. We won the game with the brains,” Queiroz said.

“We knew they would control parts of the game. Our strategy was to remain patient and take our chance when it came.”

Former Nigeria striker Efan Ekoku described the goal as one of the most important moments in recent Ghanaian football history, saying Panama would be devastated to see a valuable point slip away so late in the game.

The victory gives Ghana a huge boost in Group L and sets up a mouth-watering clash against group leaders England on Tuesday. The winner of that encounter will secure a place in the Round of 32 with one group game still to play.

Panama, meanwhile, remain without a point in World Cup history after losing all four of their matches at the tournament. They will now face Croatia in a must-win game to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Clark’s first signature model is expected to release Oct. 1, according to multiple reports. ESPN reported the shoe will cost $140 in North America and $135 in the rest of the world.

“This is like your debut album, you want it to be killer,” Clark told ESPN.

There are also messages underfoot, including “Shoot More Threes,” “From Anywhere” and “It was never a long shot.”

“There’s a lot of different Easter eggs all over the shoes that people can search through the shoe and kind of find,” Clark told ESPN. “The shoe looks one way when you’re watching me on the court, but when you physically hold it in your hand and see it up close, there’s a lot of little discoverables for the consumer, which I think is really fun too.”

Clark teased the announcement throughout the week. She hinted that her long run of wearing Kobe Bryant sneakers was coming to an end, changed her Instagram profile to show part of the upcoming shoe and wore an all-blue outfit before Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Tempo with a bracelet that read “10-01-26.”

The Caitlin 1 also uses Nike’s new “Opticast” technology, which the company said is designed to reduce drag and improve on-court movement, according to ESPN. Nike said the shoe was built around Clark’s speed, range and unpredictability.

Clark told ESPN she wanted the shoe to work both on and off the court.

Nike is also launching an 18-piece Clark apparel line that includes jackets, T-shirts and graphic hoodies, according to ESPN.

The 2026 U.S. Open will bring the world’s best players to one of its most iconic and historic venues this week in Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. It’s a fitting venue for golf’s latest pursuit of history, as Scottie Scheffler takes his first crack at joining the exclusive club of players to complete the career grand slam.

Scheffler has not been as dominant in 2026 as we’ve grown accustomed to in recent years, winning just once on the PGA Tour so far this season — the American Express in his first start of the year. Despite a months-long winning drought, Scheffler remains the favorite heading into the U.S. Open on the odds sheet at 11/2 at FanDuel Sportsbook, as bookmakers aren’t willing to cede his place as the clear No. 1 in the world just yet. 

The closest to Scheffler on the pre-tournament odds board is the man he’s trying to join in the grand slam club. Rory McIlroy enters the week at 12-1 after capturing his second straight Masters earlier this year. McIlroy has made it clear that what motivates him now is making history and winning at golf’s cathedrals, and Shinnecock Hills undoubtedly counts as one of those great venues of the game.

Nipping at McIlroy’s heels is Jon Rahm (13-1) after the Spaniard returned to major contention for the first time in a year with his runner-up at the PGA Championship last month. Bryson DeChambeau, once part of a clear-cut top four, is no longer viewed in that same category after back-to-back missed cuts at majors to start 2026; he finds himself all the way back in ninth on the odds sheet at 25-1. The two-time U.S. Open champion will be hoping to find a little magic again to reassert himself as a legitimate threat at majors, but his performances to start the year have dropped him out of the conversation alongside the likes of Scheffler, McIlroy and Rahm.
