Gary Lineker wants to see the FA change the offside rules once against after Arsenal’s disallowed goal against Manchester United in their FA Cup third round match on Sunday.
Joshua Zirkzee scored the winning penalty for United in what turned out to be a thrilling match between the Premier League titans.
Bruno Fernandes scored the opening goal of the contest in the second half in the 52nd minute, but United were reduced to 10 men a few minutes later when Diogo Dalot was shown a second yellow card.
The Gunners took full advantage two minutes later when Gabriel Magalhaes equalised and they were given a great chance to take the lead when Harry Maguire was adjudged to have brought down Kai Havertz in the box, only for Altay Bayindir to deny Martin Odegaard from the spot.

United defended for their lives as Arsenal failed to push for a winning goal before Ruben Amorim’s side pulled off an unlikely win via the penalty shootout.
Arsenal were left aggrieved after the game for an incident earlier in the match which saw Gabriel Martinelli’s goal ruled out for offside.
While replays showed that Martinelli was clearly in an offside position for his goal, Arsenal’s frustrations were due to the pass being deflected off Harry Maguire before falling to Martinelli.
Despite the ball hitting Maguire, current offside rules state that Gabriel Jesus’ intention to play through to his compatriot makes the deflection irrelevant.
Maguire’s touch was not deemed to be deliberate, meaning the offside ruling stood.
But Lineker feels the controversy surrounding the goal should push the FA to rethink their current ruling.
“Now, we understand they have given that (offside) because Harry Maguire is not in control of the ball, but you could argue, of course, that he should have been,” Lineker said on BBC.
“Here are the four things about when a player is uncontrolled.

“The ball travelled from a short distance or the player doesn’t have a clear view of it. Neither of those apply. The ball was moving quickly. Well, it wasn’t.
“The direction of the ball was unexpected. It wasn’t. And, the player had limited or no time to coordinate their body movement.

“You could possibly make an argument on that, but we understand why it’s not given.
“Now, why don’t they (the FA) just say all deflections in those circumstances are offside?
“Rather than this ambiguous nature of uncontrolled and controlled and all that.”
