We’ll start with top speed and it’s Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven who’s blistered past the competition so far this season.

The Netherlands centre-back was also the fastest player in the last campaign and the quickest Premier League star at Euro 2024.

Fulham’s Adama Traore and Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker are two known for their pace, but this season their top speed is outside of division’s top 20. For winger Traore it’s 21st, and in Walker’s case, 80th.

Walker’s top speed also puts him below Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool (19th), Manchester United’s Antony (24th) and Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn (61st).

We’re only ranking the quickest player for each team, which means there’s no space on our chart for Tottenham forward Timo Werner who has the same top speed as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (35.7 km/h).

The slowest quickest player for their club is Ipswich’s Wes Burns, who is only the 49th fastest overall.

Shohei Ohtani launched a three-run homer for the Los Angeles Dodgers that punctuated their 8-0 victory over the New York Mets in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Wednesday night in New York.

Kiké Hernández hit a two-run shot to make it 4-0 in the sixth inning and waved to the Citi Field crowd he quieted. Los Angeles rebounded from a loss at home and grabbed a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series by pitching its fourth shutout in the past five playoff games.

Ohtani connected in the eighth, a 410-foot drive that soared into the second deck in right field and barely stayed fair above the foul pole.

Max Muncy went deep in the ninth for his 13th career postseason homer, tying Corey Seager and Justin Turner for the franchise record. Muncy also connected in Game 2.

Slumping catcher Will Smith knocked in a run with an infield single, and Tommy Edman had a sacrifice fly that could have been more if not for a sensational catch on the right-center warning track by Tyrone Taylor.

On 28 September, Lennon Miller’s second goal for Motherwell against St Mirren was reviewed for a possible handball but stood and Collum said the VAR officials were “unable to fine the evidence to be categorical” about a foul.

Later in the same game, Well’s Dan Casey handled the ball on the goal-line to deny Killian Phillips a goal and was shown a straight red. Mark O’Hara had the resulting penalty saved.

“In our opinion, this is the correct call,” said Collum. “It’s a very good piece of teamwork between the assistant referee and the referee. There’s nothing there for the VAR to think that the referee has made an error there in terms of showing a red card.”

The following day, there was a similar incident at Ibrox where Rangers defender John Souttar was penalised for handball in the box following a VAR review. Mykola Kuharevich’s spot-kick for Hibernian was saved and the hosts maintained their 1-0 lead until full-time.

“It’s the correct decision for us,” Collum said of the Souttar incident.

“We would not support a red card, this is not an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

“This is certainly a punishable handball. There’s every opportunity that the goalkeeper can save this shot. The fact that no card was shown could be debated.

“If the referee had deemed John Souttar’s actions here as deliberate, he probably would’ve received a yellow card. Because the referee and the VAR team don’t deem this as a deliberate handball, there’s no need for a yellow card.”

The position of goalkeeper Jack Butland’s feet in relation to the goal line were also discussed and Collum was “content” there was no need for a re-take.

Collum also re-iterated that there had been an error in the last Scottish Premiership fixture before the split, Rangers’ 2-0 win over St Johnstone on 6 October.

It was announced earlier this week by the SFA’s key match incident review panel that St Johnstone defender Aaron Essel should have been penalised for a shirt pull on Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers.

“This is a wrong decision,” added Collum. “We expect a penalty kick here and we expect the referee to be brought to the monitor to review the decision.”

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – A.J. McKee believes there’s a lot riding on his next fight.

The former Bellator featherweight champion is confident a win over Paul Hughes at Saturday’s PFL: Battle of the Giants will get him a crack at the belt at 155 pounds, a title currently held by Usman Nurmagomedov.

“I think it’s an exciting matchup,” McKee told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s media day. “The fight everyone has wanted for the longest is Usman (Nurmagomedov) and I, so I think this is the fight to get to that fight. So yeah, with that being said, I just have to go handle business Saturday and onto bigger and better things.”

McKee (22-1) has been displeased by some of the things Hughes (12-1) has said ahead of their lightweight bout. Although there’s been trash talk on his end in past fights, McKee believes his approach is vastly different than Hughes.

“We’re completely two different human beings,” McKee said. “In my process and my journey I always had respect for Patricio where I don’t feel it’s a respect thing. I think he’s a little headstrong and arrogant, but that’s my personal opinion. But yeah, when we get locked in that cage on Saturday, it’s just him and I. All the smack talk and the jokes go out the window.”

Although setting his sight on Nurmagomedov, McKee understands Hughes is not an easy challenge and he’ll require his full attention this Saturday.

“I can’t look past Paul Hughes, but at the same time I know where I see myself and what it takes to be there.”

LAS VEGAS – Anthony Hernandez is like many MMA fans.

He doesn’t know what to expect out of opponent Michel Pereira come fight night, nor does it bother him.

Despite being one of the highest-ranked middleweights in the world, Hernandez (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) is largely unplugged from the MMA scene. He has a low-key social media presence and doesn’t research the odds or other divisional happenings.

Sure, he knows Pereira (31-11 MMA, 9-2 UFC) does backflips and leaps off the cage. But Hernandez isn’t interested in predicting the unpredictable.

“I don’t know, and I really respectfully don’t care,” Hernandez told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a UFC Fight Night 245 pre-fight news conference Wednesday. “I’m just going to kind of go out there and do what I do. I really don’t give a f*ck what he has to offer because I’m focused on what I’m going to do great. That’s as simple as that. That’s kind of how I keep things mentally for myself.”

Hernandez laid out a very simplistic read of the fight – the things he felt he knew for sure. The difference, he thinks, lies in the cardio.

“It’s hard to say because Pereira in the third round, respectfully, he looks like sh*t,” Hernandez said. “He’s wild as f*ck. He can catch you and knock you the f*ck out. So it’s not like, ‘Oh sh*t.’ But I think that if everything goes right and my hands are up, I think I finish him just because of the way he finishes and the way I don’t gas. Stylistically, seeing it on paper is perfect for me. But now, it’s just go do it.”

“… He’s a hard guy to f*cking judge. I don’t even think he knows what he’s doing. I think he even mentioned that he kind of sees it and goes. But yeah, for sure. It’s like jogging and sprinting. He’s sprinting all the time when he’s doing all that crazy sh*t. That sh*t takes hella energy. His last two fights he came out calm and collected, so I’d expect him to come out calm and collected. That would definitely help his gas tank, for sure.”
