All 9 Lord of the Rings Characters Who Have Been Recast

Published

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a cinematic masterpiece and a staple of the cinema of the 2000s. The movies are based on the seminal novels by J. R. R. Tolkien, who penned them as just a small part of his enormous fantasy legendarium, all centring around the world of Middle-earth. The films were a critical and box office success, breaking records, winning multiple Oscars, and bringing in a bunch of new fans to the IP.

Recently, a new film has been announced, The Hunt for Gollum, which is coming out soon and will be directed by Andy Serkis, who also reprises the title role. The movie will see some familiar faces return, and some new characters emerge, but unfortunately, not everyone can come back. This means a role had to be recast, though this isn’t the first time in The Lord of the Rings‘ history that it has happened. These are all the actors from The Lord of the Rings who have been recast.

You Belong To…

The race that claimed the most of your answers is your true kin. If two tied, both are shown — you walk between worlds.

🌿

Your Race

The Hobbits

You are, at your core, a creature of comfort, community, and quiet joy — and there is nothing small about that. Hobbits are proof that heroism does not require ambition, that the bravest heart can beat inside the most unassuming chest. You value good food, warm hearths, close friends, and a world that stays largely untroubled by dark lords and quests. When adventure does find you — and it will — you rise to it not because you sought it, but because the people you love needed you to. That is not ordinary. That is the rarest kind of courage in all of Middle-earth.

🌟

Your Race

The Elves

Ancient, graceful, and carrying a weight of memory most mortals cannot fathom, you are one of the Elves. You see the world in its fullness — its beauty, its impermanence, the unbearable ache of watching everything you love eventually fade. You pursue perfection not from pride, but because excellence is how you honour the time you have been given. Others may see you as remote or melancholy. They are not wrong, exactly. But they mistake depth for distance. You feel everything — which is precisely why you have learned to carry it so quietly.

⚒️

Your Race

The Dwarves

Stubborn, proud, fiercely loyal, and possessed of a work ethic that would exhaust most other races before breakfast — you are Dwarf-kind through and through. You do not ask for approval and you do not offer it cheaply. Your loyalty, once given, is given for life. Your grudges last longer. You love deeply and defend ferociously, and the things you build — with your hands, with your sweat, with generations of accumulated craft — are made to last. Not for glory. Because anything worth doing is worth doing properly, and you have never once done anything by half measures.

⚔️

Your Race

The Race of Men

Mortal, ambitious, flawed, and magnificent — you belong to the most complicated race in Middle-earth, and that complexity is your greatest strength. Men are capable of cowardice and extraordinary bravery, of cruelty and breathtaking sacrifice, sometimes within the same breath. You feel the urgency of your finite years, and it drives you. You want to matter. You want to leave something behind. You fall, and you rise, and the rising is what defines you. Tolkien called mortality the Gift of Men — not a curse, but a fire that burns bright precisely because it does not burn forever. That fire is you.

💀

Your Race

The Orcs

Brutal, survivalist, and contemptuous of anything that can’t defend itself — you answered with the instincts of an Orc, and there is a certain savage honesty in that. You do not dress up your desires in polite language or pretend you want things you don’t. You want power, survival, and to never be at the bottom of any hierarchy ever again. Orcs are not evil by nature — they were made from something that was once good, and broken into this shape by forces they did not choose. What remains is fierce, territorial, and deeply aware that the world is not kind. You’ve made your peace with that. The question is what you do with it.

Círdan the Shipwright

Círdan the Shipwright is an elf who resides in the port of Lindon on the westernmost coast of Middle-earth. He is often known as the Lord of the Grey Havens and is responsible for seeing ships off as they make for the shores of Aman, the Undying Lands. He lives a mostly peaceful lifestyle and isn’t talked about a lot in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He does, however, make brief background appearances in The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King, though he has no speaking lines. ‘

This version of Círdan is played by Michael Elsworth, but his appearance is so small that if you blink, you’ll miss him. He has a much more significant role in the Amazon Prime TV series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. This version of him is much more fleshed out and is played by Ben Daniels. Obviously, judging solely on performance, Daniels is the better of the two, mainly for the reason that he isn’t a background character and actually has dialogue in it.

Gil-galad

Gil-galad is the last elf king of the Ñoldor, and was one of the leaders of the Last Alliance during the War of the Last Alliance. He led the massive assault on Mordor at the end of the Second Age, but was actually slain by Sauron himself during the final battle. It was quite an impactful moment in the history of Middle-earth, as it sent ripples throughout the elf kingdoms and shocked many to the core.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, Gil-galad can be glimpsed very, very briefly during the opening sequence, although he has no dialogue and isn’t referred to by name. In the movie, he is played by Mark Ferguson, but he feels like more of an extra rather than a named role. His role in Amazon’s The Rings of Power is much more prominent. This time, he is played by Benjamin Walker, who is able to develop the character much more, rather than having him strictly as a background cameo.

Isildur

Isildur (Harry Sinclair) in a helmet from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Isildur was the young prince responsible for cutting the One Ring off of Sauron’s finger during the War of the Last Alliance, taking the Ring into his possession, thus beginning the Third Age of Middle-earth. However, as many already know, Isildur was corrupted by the power of the One Ring and was ambushed and killed by a band of orcs. The Ring fell into the swamps of the Gladden Fields, where it remained for 2,500 years, until it was found by Sméagol, and the rest is history.

Isildur makes his debut during the opening sequence of The Fellowship of the Ring, which depicts Sauron’s defeat. This version of the character is played by Harry Sinclair. His role is expanded upon more in The Rings of Power, in which Isildur is one of the primary characters. Here, he is played by Maxim Baldry as a younger version of the prince before he defeated Sauron. Sinclair did do a good job of playing the character, no matter how minor the role was. Baldry’s role is more fleshed out, though, since it has more screentime.

Elendil

Elendil is Isildur’s father and the King of both Arnor and Gondor. He and his kin were Númenórean exiles who ruled over the two realms and eventually joined the War of the Last Alliance in an effort to combat the growing influence of Sauron. Elendil was killed by Sauron himself, just minutes before his own son cut the Ring off of Sauron’s fingers. In fact, Isildur did it using the remnants of his father’s broken sword.

In the opening sequence of The Fellowship of the Ring, Elendil is portrayed by Peter McKenzie, but he has no dialogue and doesn’t get much screentime before snuffing it. In The Rings of Power, Elendil has a much more prominent role and is portrayed by Lloyd Owen. Here, audiences get to know more about what kind of man Elendil was and what he stood for. Once again, the version present in The Rings of Power is younger, so the recasting makes sense.

Galadriel

Galadriel is an elf who watches over the forests of Lothlórien, making her first appearance in The Fellowship of the Ring. When the fellowship passes through her realm, she gives the companions several useful gifts to aid them on their journey, including elven cloaks, ropes, new weapons, and other magical tools. She is known for her ethereal beauty and voice, and actually narrates the opening sequence of the first film.

Though not mentioned in the book, Galadriel also makes an appearance in the first Hobbit film. In every live-action movie, she is played by Cate Blanchett, who really reflects Galadriel’s ethereal aura. However, Galadriel also appears in The Rings of Power, where she is more of a fighter and less of a wise and guiding figure. In the TV show, Morfydd Clark plays Galadriel in a more central role. Both bring their own spin to this iconic figure, but movie fans definitely tend to appreciate Blanchett’s take on the character more.

Elrond Úndomiel

Elrond, also known as Elrond Half-Elven, was a prominent and ancient figure in Middle-earth, known for residing in the house of Rivendell, in the valley of Imladris, said to be the last homely house before the edge of the wild. He, too, is present in the opening sequence of The Fellowship of the Ring, but he does not die in the War of the Last Alliance. He also assists in forming the fellowship itself, and later reappears in The Return of the King, after the quest is complete and the companions go back to Rivendell to unwind.

Elrond also appears in The Hobbit movies. In both Peter Jackson trilogies, Elrond is played by Hugo Weaving, who was an absolutely perfect fit for the role. However, he also appears in The Rings of Power, but this time he is played by Robert Aramayo, and it isn’t just a case of a character being younger. The Rings of Power is not connected to Peter Jackson’s films and tries to establish its own universe, hence the recasting.

Bilbo Baggins

Bilbo Baggins is the main star of The Hobbit trilogy, and is, as the name suggests, a hobbit. In this prequel trilogy, he is played by Martin Freeman, who brings an unforgettable performance to the character. Freeman brought so much life and personality to Bilbo that he’s easily one of the best parts of the trilogy, whether one likes the actual films or not. However, Freeman isn’t the first one to take on the role.

In the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy, an older Bilbo is played by Sir Ian Holm. Of course, it makes sense that the actors would be different, considering the two stories take place 60 years apart. However, in the opening sequence of The Fellowship of the Ring, a younger Bilbo is seen, too, also played by Holm. This quick moment actually depicts the moment Bilbo finds the One Ring in The Hobbit. Moreover, in the extended cut of An Unexpected Journey, a child version of Bilbo is briefly played by Oscar Strik. At the end of the day, though, both Freeman and Holm were perfectly cast and delivered memorable versions of the character.

Gandalf the Grey

Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings Image via New Line Cinema

The original Gandalf the Grey was, and still is, played by the one and only Sir Ian McKellen. The grey wizard is known for his jolly but serious demeanour, his love of hobbit culture, and his surprising abilities in combat. Gandalf is present in both The Hobbit films and The Fellowship of the Ring, but becomes Gandalf the White (still played by McKellen) for the latter two films in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Sir Ian is indeed reprising his role in The Hunt for Gollum, but he does not take on the role for Amazon’s The Rings of Power. Gandalf makes a brief appearance at the end of Season 2, crashing down from the sky on a meteor, symbolizing Gandalf taking on physical form in Middle-earth (since he is a spirit called a Maia). This character, known as “the Stranger,” is played by Daniel Weyman and has been confirmed to be Gandalf, albeit a much younger version; several thousand years younger, in fact. Thus, it makes sense to have a younger actor play the role.

Aragorn II Elessar

Image via New Line Cinema

Aragorn made his debut in The Fellowship of the Ring, acting as a ranger from the North who aids Frodo Baggins on his quest to destroy the One Ring. Aragorn is of the Dúnedain, a race of humans gifted with exceptionally long life. He is actually 87 years old, but appears much younger. As many already know, he is also one of Isildur’s descendants and is destined to take the throne of Gondor once the War of the Ring is over.

In the films, he was played by Viggo Mortensen, who brought an unforgettable performance as the fantasy hero. But when The Hunt for Gollum‘s cast was announced, filmmakers hit the audience with some bad news: Mortensen would not be reprising his role, which makes sense, considering that Aragorn is going to be quite a bit younger in the new movie, and Mortensen is approaching 70. Granted, the movie made a great choice, casting Jamie Dornan as the new Aragorn. It’ll be interesting to see what he brings to the table, and while Mortensen left some very big shoes to fill, Dornan has proven himself as far more than just Christian Grey.

Grand Theft Auto Creator Unveils New Netflix Series

Published

The characters of the Absurdaverse.

A new universe of comedy is in the works from a surprising source: one of the creators of the blockbuster video game series Grand Theft Auto. Dan Houser, with writing partner Lazlow Jones, will be launching the Absurdaverse, an interlinked universe of animated satire. A solid lineup of comedic talent will lend their voices to the project. The Absurdaverse, so far, will be composed of a series of animated shorts, all taking place in the same fictional universe, an ongoing animated series, and an open-world video game akin to the Grand Theft Auto series; the latter two are in development.

The new project will feature the voices of Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live), Dan Soder (Billions), Yamaneika Saunders (Life and Beth), Steph Tolev (Shifting Gears), and up-and-coming stand-up comedians Ari Matti and Samantha Alton. The array of characters will include a “Chief People Officer” who thinks he’s a DJ (Soder), a conspiracy-minded podcaster (Dratch), and much, much more. You’ll be able to get your first glimpse of the Absurdaverse when the shorts make their debut at the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival on May 7; the event will also feature live stand-up by Patton Oswalt and several Absurdaverse cast members, including Soder, Matti, Saunders, Tolev, and host Annie Lederman.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

A British video game writer and producer, Dan Houser founded Rockstar Games with his brother, Sam Houser. He made his game-producing and writing debut with Grand Theft Auto: London 1969, an expansion pack to the first Grand Theft Auto game, and went on to become a driving creative force behind the subsequent GTA games. He also wrote and produced their Western-themed game Red Dead Redemption and its sequel, the private school satire Bully, and the noir-themed Max Payne 3. Although he and his brother eschewed the spotlight, they were depicted in The Gamechangers, a BBC2 docudrama; Dan was portrayed by Ian Attard (Bridgerton), and Sam was portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe. They were also both named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in 2009. He departed Rockstar in 2020.

The Absurdaverse animated shorts are produced by Dave Newberg (#1 Happy Family USA), with character designs by Kendra Melton (The Venture Bros). They are animated by Cutting Class Media.

The Absurdaverse animated shorts will premiere at the Netflix Is a Joke festival on May 7, 2026; the accompanying animated series and video game are in development. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

Rebel Wilson ‘Used PR Team’ To Smear Co-Star

Rebel Wilson on the red carpet

Rebel Wilson’s legal showdown with Charlotte MacInnes is off to a fiery start.

The case is unfolding at the Federal Court in Sydney, and centers on claims Wilson made about her “The Deb” co-star, including allegations that producer Amanda Ghost had sexually harassed MacInnes.

Front and center in the opening arguments was the accusation that Wilson also worked to push her claims into the public domain. MacInnes’ legal team alleged the actress used PR channels to circulate and reinforce damaging narratives.

Rebel Wilson was poised to make her directorial debut with the film “The Deb.” However, the moment has been overshadowed by mounting legal trouble.

The “Pitch Perfect” star appeared in court on Monday, April 20, as proceedings officially began in the defamation lawsuit filed by her co-star. Wilson was originally labeled a “bully” by the opposing side. However, MacInnes’ lawyers have followed up with the even more explosive claim that she allegedly engaged a crisis PR effort to push damaging narratives beyond the set.

Wilson is being accused of hiring publicist Melissa Nathan of The Agency Group to orchestrate a smear campaign targeting producer Ghost, as Deadline reported.

Wilson’s issues with MacInnes date back to when the younger actress raised concerns about an interaction she had with producer Ghost.

The incident in question allegedly took place in 2023 following an outing at Bondi Beach, where MacInnes and Ghost were said to have shared a bath in their swimsuits.

Wilson later claimed on Instagram that MacInnes initially expressed discomfort over the situation, but then reversed her stance. The “Pitch Perfect” star went further, suggesting her co-star had changed her account after receiving professional opportunities from the producer.

“The fact that this girl has been employed now by this ‘producer’ in the lead role of a production called GATSBY (ART Boston) and given a record label, should be all the proof you need as to why she has now changed her story,” Wilson wrote in a 2024 post.

According to a report on ABC News Australia, MacInnes pushed back hard against Wilson’s version of events in court, with her legal team arguing that the actress’s claims have caused serious reputational harm.

Representing MacInnes, Sue Chrysanthou SC disputed Wilson’s account, telling the court that the younger actress only went home with Ghost after suffering a medical episode while swimming and needing assistance to run a hot bath.

Chrysanthou argued that Wilson’s public allegations painted a deeply damaging narrative, one that went far beyond a private disagreement and into reputational territory that could impact MacInnes’ career.

She further alleged that the “Pitch Perfect” star attempted to reinforce that narrative by contacting third parties to publish anonymous claims that reflected negatively on her client.

Wilson’s legal team has hit back at MacInnes’ allegations, arguing that the actress’s concerns about the situation were still valid regardless of how events unfolded.

Wilson’s attorney, David Sibtain SC, told the court that even if Ghost had experienced a medical episode, it would not negate the possibility that MacInnes felt uncomfortable in the moment.

He went on to frame the case around Wilson’s understanding of events rather than the specifics of what actually occurred inside the Bondi apartment, emphasizing that the key question is whether she believed misconduct had taken place and acted accordingly.

According to Sibtain, the focus should not be on proving sexual misconduct, but on whether Wilson was acting on information she had been given when she raised concerns about the producer.

The Lawyer Said Her Accuser Had ‘Incentives’ To Change Story

Wilson’s defense team also doubled down on the claim that MacInnes later shifted her account of the alleged incident, arguing there were clear motivations behind that change.

In court, Sibtain pointed to the influence and industry standing, suggesting that MacInnes may have felt pressure to revise her position.

“It’s Ms. Wilson’s position that she changed her story because Ms. Ghost was a powerful person who expressed a very early interest professionally in Ms. MacInnes,” he said. “She had the power to make her dreams come true.”

Sibtain further pushed back against claims that Wilson’s statements caused lasting harm, rejecting the idea that MacInnes’ career had been derailed.

Alan Osmond’s Son David Pays Tribute, Talks About Having MS

Published

on

Alan Osmond’s son, American Idol alum David Osmond, is remembering his late father and reflecting on their shared multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

“Last night, my dad passed away. To be honest… I’m still trying to process it,” David, 46, shared via Instagram on Tuesday, April 21, alongside multiple photos of him and Alan, who died on Monday, April 20, at age 76.

“It’s hard to put into words what a life like his really means. He wasn’t just my father. He was an immense example of strength, of kindness, of how to treat people, and how to show up when it matters most,” David, who competed on season 8 of American Idol, added.

Alan was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987 and lived with his symptoms for nearly four decades. David, one of the singer’s eight children with wife Suzanne Pinegar, was diagnosed with the same disease in 2005.

“He was my buddy, and I shared so much in common with him. The love of music, yes, but strangely, we even shared the same diagnosis of MS,” David wrote. “We knew each other’s frustrations in that without even saying a word. Just a long hug, and we understood each other in a rare and beautifully unique way. Having a dad who led by example through the battle with resilience and determination, never EVER giving up, and encouraging me to do the same, was such a gift.”

“He’s larger than life in my heart and mind. His creativity, his faith, his ability to lead and inspire. There are so many things I’ll miss. The conversations, the laughter, the simple moments that didn’t feel big at the time but now mean everything,” David continued. “What I’m realizing is that the greatest gift he gave me wasn’t just in what he said or did, but in who he was. I feel him in every step that I take. And that’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.”

“My heart is broken, but it’s also full of immense gratitude. Grief for the tragic loss of his physical presence, but joy in the knowledge that he is now free,” he concluded. “I love you, Daddy-O! Thank you for everything.”

Alan was the eldest member of the pop group The Osmonds, which also featured his brothers Wayne, who died in January 2025 at age 73, Merrill, 72, Jay, 71, Donny, 68, and Jimmy, 63. His sister, Marie Osmond, also found fame as a singer and actress.

The Lord of the Rings Officially Returns This Year

Published

on

lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-season-2-poster-showing-charlie-vickers-as-sauron.jpg

It’s a great time to be a fan of The Lord of the Rings franchise, with multiple new projects in development that are moving fast. After years of updates, the full cast for the next Lord of the Rings movie, titled The Hunt for Gollum, was finally released last week. This was a double-edged sword, though. While it was exciting to see who was going to usher in the next journey to Middle-earth on the big screen, fans were devastated to learn that Aragorn had been recast with Jamie Dornan, confirming that the beloved Viggo Mortensen would not star in the film. It’s unclear why at this time, but that information will certainly come out before the film makes its worldwide premiere next year on December 17.

It’s also been revealed that Tolkien head Stephen Colbert is writing the script for a new Lord of the Rings movie, but the project is still in the early stages of development. It has been confirmed, however, that it will be set after the passing of Frodo Baggins (played by Elijah Wood) and follow Sam, Merry, and Pippin as they set out on a new adventure. In addition to these new Lord of the Rings movies, there’s also the Lord of the Rings TV series at Prime Video, The Rings of Power, which has already released two full seasons. In other events, news broke this morning that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will premiere before the end of this year, despite speculation that the show would not return until 2027. Prime Video has yet to assign the film an official release date, and the studio has also not released a trailer yet.

Sauron

🪨
Gollum

You carry something heavy — and you carry it alone, even when you don’t have to. You were not born for greatness, and that is precisely why greatness chose you. Your courage is not the roaring, sword-swinging kind; it is quiet, stubborn, and terrifying in its refusal to quit. The Ring weighs on you more than anyone can see, and still you walk toward the fire. That is not weakness. That is the rarest kind of strength there is.

You are, without question, the best of them. Not the most powerful, not the most celebrated — but the most essential. Your loyalty is not a trait; it is a force of nature. You would carry the person you love up the slopes of Mount Doom if it came to that, and we both know you’d do it without being asked. The world needs more people like you, and the world is lucky it has even one.

You were born to lead, and you have spent years running from it. The crown is yours by right, but you know better than anyone that right means nothing without the will and the worthiness to back it up. You are tempered by loss, shaped by long roads, and defined by a code of honour you hold to even when no one is watching. When you finally step forward, the world shifts. Because it was always waiting for you.

You have seen more than you let on, and you say less than you know — which is exactly as it should be. You are a catalyst: you do not fight the battles yourself, you ignite the people who can. Your wisdom comes not from books but from an age of watching what happens when it is ignored. You arrive precisely when you mean to, and your presence alone changes what is possible. A wizard is never late.

Graceful, perceptive, and almost preternaturally calm under pressure — you see things others miss and act before others react. You do not need to make a scene to be remarkable; your presence speaks for itself. You are loyal to those you choose to stand beside, and that choice is not made lightly. You have lived long enough to know that the most beautiful things in this world are also the most fragile, and that is why you fight to protect them.

You are loud, proud, and absolutely formidable — and beneath all of that is one of the most fiercely loyal hearts in Middle-earth. You don’t do anything by half measures. Your friendships are forged like iron, your grudges run as deep as mines, and your courage in battle is the kind that makes legends. You came into this fellowship suspicious of everyone and ended it willing to die for an elf. That is not a small thing. That is everything.

You think in centuries and act in absolutes. Order, dominion, control — not because you are cruel by nature, but because you have decided that the world left to itself always falls apart, and you are the only one with the vision and the will to hold it together. You were not always this. Something was lost, or taken, or betrayed, and the version of you that stands now is the answer to that wound. The tragedy is that you’re not entirely wrong — just entirely too far gone to course-correct.

You are a study in contradiction — pitiable and dangerous, cunning and broken, capable of both cruelty and something that once resembled love. You are defined by loss: of innocence, of self, of the one thing that gave your existence meaning. Two voices war inside you constantly, and the tragedy is that the better one sometimes wins, just not often enough, and never at the right moment. You are a warning, yes — but also a mirror. We are all a little Gollum, given the right ring and enough time.

What Is ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ About?

‘Andor’ Star Tries to Rescue FIFA World Cup in Jaw-Dropping True Story First Netflix Trailer

Published

on

image002.png

Not every sports movie needs to be about what happens on the field, and México 86 looks like it knows that from the jump. Netflix’s new film is taking one of the biggest football events in history and pulling the camera back to the frantic, political, behind-the-scenes scramble that made it happen at all. That already gives it a fresh angle, but throwing Diego Luna into the middle of the chaos makes it even easier to clock why this one stands out. The first trailer leans into audacity, pressure, and the kind of national-level bluffing that sounds almost too wild to be real. Except, of course, it is.

Netflix has released the first trailer for México 86, a 2026 film centered on the incredible true story behind Mexico landing the 1986 World Cup. The official setup follows a cunning Mexican bureaucrat who, after a last-minute hosting opportunity appears, cons his way through FIFA in an attempt to beat the United States and bring the tournament to Mexico for a historic second time. Netflix’s own description frames it as an against-all-odds feat driven by “audacity, madness, and pure Mexican ingenuity,” while early materials pitch the film as a mix of politics, satire, and sports-world chaos.

Directed by Gabriel Ripstein and written by Daniel Krauze and Ripstein, the film stars Diego Luna, Karla Souza, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Álvaro Guerrero, Memo Villegas, and Juan Pablo Fernández.

Collider Exclusive · Taylor Sheridan Universe Quiz
Which Taylor Sheridan
Show Do You Belong In?

Yellowstone · Landman · Tulsa King · Mayor of Kingstown

Four worlds. All of them brutal, complicated, and built on power, loyalty, and the price of survival. Taylor Sheridan doesn’t write heroes — he writes people who do what they have to do and live with the cost. Ten questions will reveal which one of his worlds you were made for.

🤠Yellowstone

🛢️Landman

👑Tulsa King

⚖️Mayor of Kingstown

01

Where does your power come from?
In Sheridan’s world, everyone has leverage. The question is what kind.

02

Who do you put first, no matter what?
Loyalty in Sheridan’s universe is always absolute — and always costly.

03

Someone crosses a line. How do you respond?
Every Sheridan protagonist has a line. What matters is what happens after it’s crossed.

04

Where do you feel most in your element?
Sheridan’s worlds are as much about place as they are about people.

05

How do you feel about operating in the grey?
Nobody in a Sheridan show has clean hands. The question is how they carry the dirt.

06

What are you actually fighting to hold onto?
Every Sheridan character is fighting a war. The real question is what they’re defending.

07

How do you lead?
Authority in Sheridan’s world is never given — it’s established, maintained, and constantly tested.

08

Someone new arrives and tries to change how things work. Your reaction?
Every Sheridan show has an outsider disrupting an established order. Sometimes that outsider is you.

09

What has your position cost you?
Nobody gets to where these characters are without paying for it. The bill is always personal.

10

When it’s over, what do you want people to say?
Sheridan’s characters all know the ending is coming. The question is what they leave behind.

Sheridan Has Spoken
You Belong In…

The show that claimed the most of your answers is the world you were built for. If two tied, both are shown — you’re complicated enough to straddle two Sheridan universes.

🤠
Yellowstone

🛢️
Landman

👑
Tulsa King

⚖️
Mayor of Kingstown

You are a Dutton — or you might as well be. You understand that some things are worth protecting at any cost, and that the modern world’s indifference to history, to land, to legacy, is not something you’re willing to accept quietly. You lead from the front, you carry your family’s weight without complaint, and when someone threatens what’s yours, you don’t escalate — you finish it. You’re not cruel. But you are absolute. In Yellowstone’s world, that combination of ferocity and loyalty doesn’t make you a villain. It makes you the only thing standing between everything that matters and everyone who wants to take it.

You thrive in the chaos of high-stakes negotiation, where the money is enormous, the margins are thin, and the wrong word in the wrong room can cost everyone everything. You’re a fixer — the person called when a situation is already on fire and needs someone with the nerve to walk into it. West Texas oil country rewards exactly what you are: sharp, adaptable, unsentimental, and absolutely clear-eyed about what people want and what they’ll do to get it. You’re not naive enough to think this world is fair. You’re smart enough to be the one deciding who it’s fair to.

You are a Dwight Manfredi — someone who has served their time, paid their dues, and arrived somewhere unexpected with nothing but their reputation and their wits. You adapt without losing yourself. You build loyalty through respect rather than fear, though you’re not above reminding people that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Tulsa King is for people who are still standing when everyone assumed they’d be finished — who find, in an unfamiliar place, that they’re more capable than the world gave them credit for. You don’t need a throne. You build one, wherever you happen to land.

You carry the weight of a system that is broken by design, and you do it anyway — because someone has to, and because you’re the only one positioned to do it without the whole thing collapsing. Mike McLusky’s world is for people who are comfortable operating where there are no good options, only less catastrophic ones. You speak every language: law enforcement, criminal, political, human. That fluency makes you invaluable and it makes you a target. You’ve made your peace with both. Mayor of Kingstown belongs to people who understand that keeping the peace is not the same as being at peace — and who do the job regardless.

What Happened in Mexico 86?

Well, on the pitch, it was one of the most iconic World Cups ever held. Argentina won the trophy following one of the most controversial and unforgettable tournaments in football history, with Diego Maradona delivering both the infamous “Hand of God” goal and the stunning solo run later dubbed the “Goal of the Century” against England. Argentina eventually beat West Germany 3-2 in the final, sealing Maradona’s reputation as one of the greatest players to ever play the game, and securing him iconic status in his home country matched these days only by Lionel Messi.

México 86 will premiere on Netflix on June 5, 2026. Check out the trailer above.

John Cena’s ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Finally Releases First Trailer After Being Saved From Cancellation

Published

on

01624092_poster_w780.jpg

In 2023, it was condemned to the vaults, never to be seen. Now, three years later, it’s headed to theaters. The first trailer for Coyote vs. Acme is out now, and it promises to give the long-suffering Coyote his day in court. Court is in session, courtesy of Ketchup Entertainment, starting on August 28.

As the trailer opens, Wile E. Coyote is once more stymied in his endless pursuit of the Road Runner by a faulty piece of equipment from the Acme Corporation. When he sees an ad for Kevin Avery (Will Forte), a lawyer who’s successfully pursued class-action lawsuits against Acme before, the Coyote decides to take his battle outside the endless canyons of the American Southwest and into the courtroom. There, Avery represents him against slick Acme flack Buddy Crane (John Cena); and while Avery typically settles with Acme for chump change, his niece Paige (Lana Condor) convinces him that this time, he can make a difference. The Coyote won’t be the only animated icon called to the stand; the trailer teases appearances from Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, and many more. Bugs Bunny turns up at the end as a Deep Throat-like informant. Will his help turn the trial in Coyote’s favor? What are the dark secrets of the Acme Corporation? And will the Coyote finally catch the Road Runner? You’ll have to hit the multiplex this summer to find out.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

How Did ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Escape Warner Bros?

As part of a wave of cost-cutting at Warner Bros, the nearly complete Coyote vs. Acme was shelved. There was an outpouring of outrage from those involved in the film and those who had seen it, and unlike fellow tax write-off Batgirl, WB put Coyote vs. Acme up for sale. When no studio was willing to meet WB’s price, it looked like Coyote vs. Acme might never see the light of day. However, it and fellow Looney Tunes film The Day the Earth Blew Up were acquired by Ketchup Entertainment; the latter was released in 2024, and Coyote vs. Acme will finally hit theaters this summer.

Coyote vs. Acme is directed by Dave Green (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), from a script by Samy Burch (May December), and a story by Burch, Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), and James Gunn (Superman). It is based on the comedy article of the same name by Ian Frazier, which ran in the New Yorker in 1990.

Coyote vs. Acme will be released in theaters on August 28, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
