Apple TV Officially Sets Release Date for Chris Pratt’s New Military Action Thriller

Published

on

jbyakynexl1pokznemb6qobn60s.jpg

There is something about Chris Pratt that makes him the perfect actor to play law enforcement officers, especially those in the military. From Zero Dark Thirty to The Terminal List, his TV and film career has featured these roles that have made him one of the most recognizable actors of the last two decades. Just this year, he played a police officer in Mercy, a timely film about AI that, while it underperformed in theaters, became a hit on streaming. This November, Pratt is once again taking on another military character, but there is something different about this one.

If you’re wondering whether he might be getting typecast, his upcoming Apple TV movie taps into a different side of him. Instead of relying on the hard, gritty exterior Navy SEALs are known for, his character, Jake, uses military training for something different. In the film directed by McG, Jake is a decorated Navy SEAL who spends a summer with his sister, Sarah (Linda Cardellini), and her son, Marc (Jude Hill). Jake learns that his nephew is having a hard time at school.

Middle school has been hell for Marc because, apart from being bullied, he has bad grades, horrible physical education, and his friends are non-existent. Many movies about bullies follow a similar script: The bullied kid learns to fight and shows his bullies who’s the boss. But not Way of the Warrior Kid, as the film is titled. Jake draws on his military training to launch Operation Warrior Kid to help his nephew address his current problem. The film’s description remains cryptic about what Operation Warrior Kid entails, saying that he “shows Marc what real courage is.” Jake is also benefiting from this operation, as it helps him confront his own demons. Way of the Warrior Kid was written and adapted for the screen by Will Staples, based on Jocko Willink‘s book.

You are a Dutton — or you might as well be. You understand that some things are worth protecting at any cost, and that the modern world’s indifference to history, to land, to legacy, is not something you’re willing to accept quietly. You lead from the front, you carry your family’s weight without complaint, and when someone threatens what’s yours, you don’t escalate — you finish it. You’re not cruel. But you are absolute. In Yellowstone’s world, that combination of ferocity and loyalty doesn’t make you a villain. It makes you the only thing standing between everything that matters and everyone who wants to take it.

You thrive in the chaos of high-stakes negotiation, where the money is enormous, the margins are thin, and the wrong word in the wrong room can cost everyone everything. You’re a fixer — the person called when a situation is already on fire and needs someone with the nerve to walk into it. West Texas oil country rewards exactly what you are: sharp, adaptable, unsentimental, and absolutely clear-eyed about what people want and what they’ll do to get it. You’re not naive enough to think this world is fair. You’re smart enough to be the one deciding who it’s fair to.

You are a Dwight Manfredi — someone who has served their time, paid their dues, and arrived somewhere unexpected with nothing but their reputation and their wits. You adapt without losing yourself. You build loyalty through respect rather than fear, though you’re not above reminding people that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Tulsa King is for people who are still standing when everyone assumed they’d be finished — who find, in an unfamiliar place, that they’re more capable than the world gave them credit for. You don’t need a throne. You build one, wherever you happen to land.

You carry the weight of a system that is broken by design, and you do it anyway — because someone has to, and because you’re the only one positioned to do it without the whole thing collapsing. Mike McLusky’s world is for people who are comfortable operating where there are no good options, only less catastrophic ones. You speak every language: law enforcement, criminal, political, human. That fluency makes you invaluable and it makes you a target. You’ve made your peace with both. Mayor of Kingstown belongs to people who understand that keeping the peace is not the same as being at peace — and who do the job regardless.

Taylor Frankie Paul’s Mom Addresses Abuse, Neglect Claims

Published

on

GettyImages-2273322469liannmayexclusive.jpg

Taylor Frankie Paul’s mom, Liann May, is breaking her silence after Utah’s Division of Child and Family Services (CFS) requested a court find her daughter’s three children “abused, neglected or dependent.”

“The accusations of child neglect and abuse being leveled against my daughter are not only entirely false, but are also completely absurd,” May, 50, says in a written statement shared exclusively with Us Weekly. “My grandkids live in a safe, loving and stable home provided with every amenity. They are well-fed, clothed, bathed regularly, and frequently enjoy trips to recreational activities. Furthermore, they are supported by a full-time nanny and a loving supporting family. My grandchildren are exceptionally well taken care of and are not being abused or neglected in any way by their mother. They’re quite spoiled to say the least.

She continued, “These allegations have spiraled out of control, and I believe my daughter is being unfairly targeted due to her public profile. This harassment is discriminatory, unlawful and deeply unjust. While there are children truly in need of protection and public attention, resources and energy are being wasted on these baseless claims.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star, 32, shares son Ever, 2, with Dakota Mortensen as well as two children — daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 6 — with ex-husband Tate Paul. She is currently locked in two separate custody battles with both Mortensen and Tate following a string of alleged domestic violence incidents involving Taylor and Mortensen. (After taking a plea deal in a 2023 domestic violence case, Taylor was allegedly involved in another incident with Mortensen in February. Both parties denied allegations of domestic violence and authorities declined to press changes.)

As part of her ongoing custody battle and alleged incidents, CFS opened up an investigation into Taylor. According to court documents obtained by TMZ on Wednesday, July 15, in addition to ruling the children “abused, neglected or dependent,” officials are also requesting a judge “order protective supervision services, appoint a guardian ad litem to represent the children and issue any additional orders deemed to be in their best interests.”

“I want to be very clear, if my grandchildren were being neglected or abused by anyone, I would be the first to act on it,” Taylor’s mom, May, continued in her exclusive statement to Us. “I ask for privacy and for the spread of false narratives to please stop.”

Shortly after news of CFS’ request broke, Taylor issued a statement via her attorneys saying that she continues to fully cooperate with authorities.

“It was recently decided that the ongoing custody actions would be best suited for juvenile court, a common step for families engaged in highly contentious, complex custody matters,” her legal representatives said via a statement shared with US on Thursday, July 16. “Taylor is not deterred by this transition; she welcomes the added structure and oversight it provides and looks forward to continuing her progress toward normalizing custody and becoming the healthiest version of herself.”

On Saturday, July 18, Taylor broke her social media silence on the request, denying claims she forces her daughter to change her 2-year-old son’s diapers while admitting she is not “mother of the year.”

“If I have learned anything in 2026 [with] false headlines, there’s a lot of false information out there and so, therefore, it doesn’t affect me because it’s not true,” she said in a video shared via Instagram. “That being said, there are some things that are true as well.”

She added, “It’s kind of like [Mormon Wives] for me. I don’t need to go read [the court documents] because I lived them. However it is perceived, what is said, it may be accurate, maybe not. It can be exaggerated, twisted. What I do know is what [happened] and I know the truth.”

Taylor’s exes, Tate and Mortensen, also issued a joint statement following CFS’ request.

“Tate Paul and Dakota Mortensen have remained publicly silent throughout these proceedings to avoid having serious private family matters turned into more of a public spectacle than they already have due to the insatiable appetite of others to share private family information online to promote views and publicity,” their attorneys told Us in a statement. “However, they are deeply concerned that Taylor’s statement minimizes the gravity of the action filed by DCFS and her many underlying actions that prompted such. The petition filed by DCFS this week is not a routine transition to juvenile court or an opportunity for personal growth. DCFS has asked the Court to find that the children are abused and has requested an expedited hearing concerning their immediate protection.”

Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex-husband, Tate Paul, allegedly expressed concern that the reality star’s mother, Liann May, was “coaching” his daughter following a 2023 domestic dispute. On Thursday, March 26, People published transcripts of a phone call between Tate and Utah police about his ex-wife’s arrest on domestic violence charges. In February 2023, Taylor was accused […]

The statement added, “Tate and Dakota are grateful that DCFS has taken these concerns seriously and is stepping in to protect the children. They share the serious concern that the family court system, law enforcement, prosecutors, and child-welfare agencies need meaningful coordination necessary to understand the situation and act in a manner most likely to protect the children. Serious warning signs went largely unaddressed for far too long, even after the passage of Om’s Law. Tate and Dakota remain focused on protecting the children, giving them the time and space they need to heal, supporting meaningful accountability, and using what their families have experienced to help improve coordination between these systems in the future.”

Bow Wow Weighs In On His Daughter’s Career Ambitions

Published

on

Bow Wow

Bow Wow rose to fame in the early 2000s under the stage name Lil’ Bow Wow, dropping hit records like “Beware of Dog” and singles such as “Bounce with Me.” Over the years, the rapper, whose real name is Shad Moss, captured even more success after putting out staples, including “Like You” with Ciara and starring in the movies “Like Mike,” “Johnson Family Vacation,” “Roll Bounce, and “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.” With all of the success that’s come his way, Bow Wow, 39, is used to life in the spotlight. But would he want his daughter, 15-year-old Shai Moss, living the same life?

Bow Wow
MEGA

Speaking with PEOPLE at the 2026 BET Awards, Bow Wow said he wouldn’t be opposed to his daughter, Shai, following in his footsteps. However, if she wanted to have success like his, she’d have to do this one thing.

“Be serious about it. Don’t play with it,” Bow Wow said. “And if you’re serious, let’s do it. I got your back a hundred million percent — and we are going to get it done.”

For Bow Wow, he’s not like some other famous parents. He said if his daughter wants it, she has to work for it. “I’m not one of them parents that’s forcing it,” he shared. “She’s got to want to do it, and that’s how you build that love for this, and you’ll never want to leave it.”

Bow Wow looked back on his career, which started at age 13, and said that forcing his child into the spotlight could cause more harm than good.

“If I put it on her and make her do it, it ain’t going to work. So it’s all on her. But if she decides to do it, I got it,” he added.

Bow Wow Previously Said The ‘Lifestyle’ That Comes With Being Famous Isn’t Everything

Back in 2023, Bow Wow, a Columbus, Ohio, native, shared a vulnerable post to his Instagram Stories, revealing that, despite being rich and famous, the “lifestyle” isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. He mentioned how sad he was that he wasn’t able to go to “prom nor college.”

“Just woke up… Thinking to myself like d-mn… I never been to prom nor college. I wanna pledge so bad I wish I was apart of a fraternity,” Bow Wow wrote online. “Yall think Im lucky because of my lifestyle but I really want what yall have.”

In a separate interview with the Associated Press, covered by TODAY, Bow Wow said that he still wouldn’t trade his childhood for the world, noting that things played out the way they were supposed to. “Not at all. Everything happens for a reason. I’m just one of the chosen few that actually grew up in the limelight and maintained and still be normal,” he said.

While Bow Wow is open to letting Shai pursue a career under the bright lights, several celebrities, including Drew Barrymore, are against their kids growing up as they did.

Barrymore, who was only seven when she appeared in “E.T.,” told PEOPLE in 2018 that she refuses to let her children be “kid actors.”

“If they want to be actors [later] in life, I would be so supportive of it,” she said. “Can you imagine me being [a] mom [who is] pushing her kids out there? That’s not going to happen.”

Ed Sheeran Has Similar Thoughts

And Barrymore isn’t alone in her thinking. “Thinking Out Loud” singer Ed Sheeran revealed on the “Table Manners with Jessie Ware” podcast that if even his children wound up with musical abilities such as his, he’d keep them as far away from the industry as possible.

“I think it’s from being in the music industry — I’m like, ‘I would not wish this on my child.’ I would hate for her to be known as my daughter rather than just Lyra; I want her to have [her] own identity,” he shared.

Angelina Jolie, known for her expansive catalog of iconic roles, including Jane Smith in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” told The Sydney Morning Harold that she, too, would like her children to pursue careers outside the realm of entertainment.

“We’re hoping, I think, that the kids don’t become actors. We want them to be happy and do whatever they’re interested in, but I think we’re hoping to show them so many ideas and other options that they won’t want to act,” she said.

As she continued, Jolie said that while she wouldn’t stop her children from becoming actors, she hoped they’d also do something else. “I’d like them to do other things with their lives,” she said. “We’re a bit nervous about that.”

Matty Healy Ties The Knot Weeks After Taylor Swift’s Wedding

Matty Healy is officially a married man, tying the knot with Gabbriette Bechtel just over two weeks after his former flame Taylor Swift exchanged vows with Travis Kelce.

The 1975 frontman and the model married Saturday, July 18, during a glamorous outdoor ceremony at Castillo del Lago, the Hollywood Hills estate once owned by Madonna. The couple exchanged vows beneath the Hollywood sign before Healy turned the reception into a private concert with his band.

According to the Daily Mail, Healy and Gabbriette exchanged vows as the sun began to set over Los Angeles. “The bride walked down the aisle wearing a beautiful white dress, and they kissed at exactly 7 o’clock,” an insider told the outlet.

Looking at the photos obtained by the outlet, Gabbriette wore a dramatic gown featuring a sweetheart neckline, sculpted bodice, and ruffled long sleeves. Its voluminous skirt flowed into an intricately embroidered train, while a sheer veil covered her dark hair. Healy chose a traditional black tuxedo with a white dress shirt and black bow tie. A white floral corsage was pinned to his lapel.

The couple held their reception at the same historic property, with Healy later taking the stage alongside his fellow members of The 1975.

Charli XCX attended with her husband, The 1975 drummer George Daniel, who served double duty as Healy’s bandmate and wedding guest. Emily Ratajkowski, Alex Consani, Devon Lee Carlson, Sydney Carlson, Anastasia Karanikolaou, and Fai Khadra were also reportedly among those celebrating the newlyweds.

Guests embraced the event’s Old Hollywood aesthetic, with Charli and Daniel coordinating in gothic-inspired black ensembles. The “Brat” singer wore a ruffled wrap dress, while Daniel opted for a sleek black suit.

The wedding held special significance for Charli, who helped connect Gabbriette to the music industry years before the model began dating Healy. Gabbriette was previously the lead vocalist of Nasty Cherry, the punk-pop group created by Charli in 2018. Daniel, meanwhile, has performed alongside Healy since The 1975 formed during their teenage years.

The couple hosted a rehearsal dinner Friday at the Rainbow Bar & Grill in West Hollywood before gathering at Castillo del Lago the following evening.

Healy reportedly celebrated with two bachelor parties, including a watch party for England’s World Cup victory over Norway. Another celebration featured his bandmates and The 9075, a tribute act inspired by The 1975.

Gabbriette traveled to Las Vegas for her bachelorette festivities in June. She began the celebration in a vintage white Chanel bouclé suit and veiled fascinator before changing into several bridal-inspired outfits. One look featured a jeweled white bra and matching bottoms, while another paired a bandeau top with a miniskirt. The model also posed beside balloons spelling out “Mrs. Healy.” Guests received shirts reading, “I survived Gabbriette’s bachelorette Las Vegas 2026.”

The couple reportedly spent more than $130,000 flying friends and relatives to California for the wedding, although the exact cost has not been independently confirmed.

Healy’s parents, actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy, traveled from the United Kingdom for the ceremony. Welch had publicly celebrated the couple’s engagement after Healy proposed with a custom black diamond ring. “We couldn’t be happier,” the “Loose Women” panelist said in 2024. “She is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law.”

Welch revealed that she had known about the engagement for several weeks before Gabbriette displayed the ring while attending a Charli XCX show in New York. “Black diamond, he had it made for her, and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Welch told her co-hosts.

A source now describes Gabbriette as “the whole package,” adding that she and Healy “work really well together” and are “absolutely in love.” “The right person came along that made him want to settle down,” the insider claimed. “They’re such a good fit that it makes sense.”

Their Wedding Follows Taylor Swift’s Nuptials

Healy and Gabbriette were first romantically linked in September 2023 after being photographed kissing in New York City. Their relationship began approximately three months after Healy’s brief romance with Taylor Swift ended. He and Gabbriette announced their engagement in June 2024 after roughly nine months together.

Swift married Kelce at Madison Square Garden on July 3, approximately two weeks before Healy and Gabbriette’s ceremony.

‘The Odyssey’ Surges on Streaming Before Its Theatrical Run Even Begins

Published

the-odyssey-poster.jpg

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has only just reached cinemas, but the iconic filmmaker’s latest has already become a streaming smash, too. After years of anticipation for the release, IMAX hype and a small military operation in terms of just shooting the thing, audiences are gobbling it up at home like Polyphemus in his cave.

The Odyssey: The Making of an Epic has climbed to No. 4 on Peacock’s most-popular movies chart. The behind-the-scenes documentary was released earlier this week, perfectly timed to coincide with the theatrical arrival of Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s legendary tale. The documentary also explores the sheer scale of the production, which filmed across Morocco, Greece, Italy, Iceland, and Scotland, and details the lengths Nolan and producer Emma Thomas went to in order to prioritize real locations, practical crowds, and physical sets over using things like a Volume screen.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

‘The Odyssey’ Was Like “Seven Different Ambitious Movies”

“This is such an ambitious film,” Thomas says in the documentary. “It’s sort of like seven different ambitious movies all rolled up into one.” Matt Damon, who stars as Odysseus, recalled Nolan warning him that the production would be much more demanding than he expected. “This is gonna be a hard movie,” Nolan told him.

“Yeah, I know,” Damon replied.

No, this is gonna be a really hard movie,” Nolan insisted. And Nolan was right, because one of the production base camps actually required a 45-minute hike just to reach the set, while the camera and grip equipment sometimes had to be moved using helicopters or a funicular cableway. Production designer Ruth De Jong said the difficulties were justified by what they added to the finished film.

“As hard as this is to work like this up here, it’s worth it,” De Jong said. “There was no location that was straightforward and easy, but all of those locations made sense for the story. It wouldn’t be the film that it is without going there and doing it for real.”

Tom Holland also recalled walking for roughly 20 minutes through extras, boats, fires, and buildings before even encountering a crew member, admitting that he had “never seen anything on that scale before.”

The documentary also examines Nolan’s decision to shoot the entire movie using IMAX film cameras, something he described as a dream he had held since he was 16, while developing new soundproofing technology to make close-up dialogue scenes possible despite the cameras’ famously loud operation. Safe to say, that decision paid off.

The Odyssey: The Making of an Epic is streaming now on Peacock. The Odyssey is now in theaters.

Prayers Up! Tucson Mass Shooting Leaves At Least 10 Victims Hospitalized As Suspect Is Taken Into Custody (VIDEO)

A night out in Tucson took a terrifying turn after gunfire erupted in a crowded downtown area, sending people running for safety and leaving authorities scrambling to respond. The incident has since sparked multiple investigations as officials work to determine exactly what happened.

Police Reveal What Happened After Gunfire Erupted In Tucson

According to the Tucson Police Department, officers patrolling downtown heard gunshots around 2 a.m. Sunday near the 100 block of Congress Street, an area filled with restaurants and nightlife. When officers arrived, they spotted a man running from the scene and repeatedly ordered him to stop. Authorities say an officer ultimately shot the suspect, who was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Nine People Injured As Multiple Investigations Get Underway

Police say the suspect allegedly opened fire before officers intervened, leaving nine people with gunshot wounds. Officials said the victims primarily suffered injuries to their extremities and were treated at the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals. No deaths have been reported, and authorities confirmed no officers were injured during the incident.

As investigators continued piecing together the events, officials temporarily shut down parts of downtown Tucson, including sections of Congress Street and nearby roads, while crime scene investigators processed the area. Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect, and the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting while the Tucson Police Department conducts its own internal review.

Mayor Speaks Out After Downtown Tucson Shooting

City leaders also addressed the shooting, with Tucson Mayor Regina Romero calling it a reckless act of gun violence that impacted not only the victims but the entire community. Meanwhile, investigators are asking anyone with information or video from the incident to contact authorities as the investigation remains ongoing. In a statement, she shared:

“Last night, Tucson experienced another serious and senseless act of gun violence. A shooter recklessly began shooting in a crowded area striking nine people before being stopped by a Tucson Police Officer. Thanks to the quick actions and excellent care provided by our fire fighters and police officers, all victims were stabilized and taken to the hospital where we are hopeful they will all recover,” Mayor Romero said.

Warriors of Virtue: The Forgotten ’90s Martial Arts Fantasy That Deserved a Bigger Following : Coastal House Media

Warriors of Virtue: The Forgotten '90s Martial Arts Fantasy That Deserved a Bigger Following : Coastal House Media

Released in 1997, Warriors of Virtue arrived during a decade filled with martial arts action, fantasy adventures, and larger than life creature movies. While films like Mortal Kombat, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Power Rangers dominated pop culture, Warriors of Virtue quietly carved out its own bizarre and surprisingly memorable corner of the genre.

Directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Ronny Yu before he went on to helm Bride of Chucky and Freddy vs. Jason, the film combined martial arts, fantasy, Taoist philosophy, and five kung fu fighting kangaroos into a family adventure unlike anything audiences had seen before.

A Truly Original Premise

The story follows Ryan Jeffers, a young boy with a physical disability who is transported to the mystical world of Tao after falling into a whirlpool. There, he discovers a land threatened by the evil Lord Komodo and meets the legendary Warriors of Virtue, five anthropomorphic kangaroos, each representing one of the elements and virtues of Tao.

It’s the kind of premise that sounds almost impossible to explain today, yet somehow it works. Instead of relying solely on spectacle, the film mixes coming of age themes with lessons about courage, teamwork, and believing in yourself.

Martial Arts Before CGI Took Over

One of the film’s biggest strengths remains its action.

Long before every blockbuster relied heavily on digital effects, Warriors of Virtue featured performers in elaborate creature suits executing real martial arts choreography. While some of the effects haven’t aged perfectly, the physical stunt work gives the action a tangible quality that many fans still appreciate nearly three decades later.

The film also benefited from Ronny Yu’s background in Hong Kong action cinema, giving many fight sequences a style that stood apart from typical American family films of the era.

Campy in the Best Possible Way

Let’s be honest, this movie is weird.

Kung fu kangaroos.
An evil villain named Lord Komodo.
Mystical life springs.
A fantasy world inspired by Taoist philosophy.

On paper, it sounds like a studio brainstorming session gone completely off the rails.

Yet that’s exactly why the film has endured. While critics largely dismissed it upon release, many viewers who grew up during the late ’90s remember it as one of those unforgettable VHS rentals that felt unlike anything else on the shelf. Today, discussions across movie communities frequently describe it as a forgotten childhood favorite or a “fever dream” that people were convinced they imagined until rediscovering it years later.

A Box Office Failure That Found Cult Status

Unfortunately, originality didn’t translate into box office success.

Produced on a reported budget of around $35 million, Warriors of Virtue earned just over $6 million domestically, making it one of 1997’s biggest commercial disappointments. Critics were equally harsh, and the ambitious franchise plans never materialized beyond a direct to video sequel released in 2002.

Despite that, the movie has quietly developed a cult following over the years. Collectors still seek out the original action figures, while nostalgic movie fans continue introducing the film to new audiences who can’t believe a movie about martial arts kangaroos actually exists.

Final Thoughts

Not every movie needs to be a masterpiece to be memorable.

Warriors of Virtue is ambitious, wonderfully strange, occasionally cheesy, and packed with enough martial arts action and practical creature effects to make it a fascinating time capsule of late ’90s family filmmaking.

If you missed it back in 1997, don’t expect the next great fantasy epic. Instead, expect a movie that swings for the fences with an original idea Hollywood probably wouldn’t greenlight today, and that’s exactly what makes it worth revisiting.

For fans of forgotten cult classics, Warriors of Virtue remains one of the most unique martial arts fantasy films of its generation.

Sam Burns Wife Encouraged Him in The Open After Baby’s Birth

Professional golfer Sam Burns didn’t expect to be on the course, competing in the 2026 Open Championship, leading up to — and certainly after — his wife gave birth to their baby girl.

“I was expecting to be at home,” Sam, 29, told PGATour.com on Wednesday, July 15, noting Caroline’s due date was one day prior.

Caroline ultimately gave birth to baby No. 2, daughter Belle, on July 3. (The couple, who have been married since 2019, are also parents of 2-year-old son Bear.)

After Belle’s arrival, Sam planned to sit out of the PGA tournament to help his wife recover as they settle into their new life as parents of two. Instead, Caroline persuaded the athlete to make the trip while she stayed home with their kids and her parents.

Pro golfer Scottie Scheffler had a full house cheering him on at the 2026 Masters Tournament. Scottie, 29, competed in the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday, April 8, where wife Meredith Scheffler served as his caddie alongside sons Bennett, 23 months, and Remy, 12 days. “This is what it’s all about!” Scottie wrote via Instagram […]

“I still wasn’t sure if I could get there mentally,” Sam acknowledged on Wednesday. “It’s just a weird dynamic of having a new baby, and you want to be there for them and your family. I think it was ultimately my decision of, ‘Could I get there from a mental standpoint of having to leave?’”

In fact, Sam quipped that he didn’t even swing a club for four days after Belle’s birth but assured reporters that he wasn’t rusty.

“We only get four of these [majors] a year,” Sam stated. “If it was a different event, I probably wouldn’t be here.”

While speaking to CBS reporters later that day, Sam admitted that he thought there was “zero percent chance” he’d be able to make the competition.

Brett, my agent, was like, ‘I’m just going to sign you up, just in case,’” he recalled in a press conference. “I was like, ‘You can, but [I’m] probably not gonna be able to play. Then, we ended up having [Belle] on the 3rd, and even then I still wasn’t expecting to play by any means.”

Sam further stressed that he only changed his mind after multiple conversations with Caroline.

She’s just amazing, superhero,” he gushed of his wife. “If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t be here.”

Sam and Caroline’s plans appeared to be paying off. The pro golfer sat in first position going into the rounds on Sunday, July 19, though his family remained top of mind.

“My wife’s maiden name is Campbell, and we always loved that name and wanted to try to do something with it,” Sam told reporters on Saturday, July 18, revealing how they picked a name for their baby girl. “That’s kind of where we got it from. … Obviously, it’s not that similar, but [it is inspired by] the Campbell part.”

Netflix’s Biggest Sci-Fi Movie of 2026 Belongs to Alan Ritchson

Published

on

war-machine-poster.jpg

With 2026 now in its second half, Netflix has officially revealed the movies and shows that dominated the platform during the first six months of the year, and it’s no surprise to see Alan Ritchson‘s explosive sci-fi action thriller leading the list. Released in March, the film quickly became a global hit, debuting at No. 1 in more than 90 countries and holding onto the top spot for multiple weeks. Its massive success has already earned it a sequel, which officially entered development at Netflix last month, with Patrick Hughes reportedly set to return as both writer and director.

Starring Ritchson as an unnamed U.S. Army Staff Sergeant later designated “81,” the sci-fi blockbuster blends intense military action with a relentless extraterrestrial threat. The story follows an elite Ranger training exercise that spirals into a desperate fight for survival after the soldiers come face-to-face with a deadly alien killing machine during the final phase of U.S. Army Ranger selection. Also starring are Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber.

Now, Netflix has confirmed that War Machine has amassed a whopping 147 million views, making it the streamer’s most-watched film of 2026 so far. The feat is especially impressive considering the film holds a 66% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviewers praising Ritchson’s commanding performance while criticizing the movie’s character development and predictable story. Rounding out Netflix’s top three movies of the first half of 2026 are The Rip with 136 million views and the animated comedy Swapped with 131 million. The latter is already on track to become Netflix’s second most-watched original animated film ever, trailing only KPop Demon Hunters.

You’re pinned down and outnumbered. What does your ideal partner do?
This is when you find out what someone is really made of.

The mission is paused. You have one evening to decompress. What does your partner suggest?
Who someone is when the pressure drops is who they actually are.

10

It’s the final moment. Everything is on the line. What do you need from your partner right now?
The last question is the most honest one.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

What Else Made It to Netflix’s First-Half Rankings?

Looking beyond the top three, KPop Demon Hunters ranks fourth overall with 130 million views, narrowly ahead of Apex, which sits in fifth with 129 million. Thrash follows with 100 million views, while the romantic adaptation People We Meet on Vacation lands seventh with 78 million. Rounding out the top 10 are The Crash (65 million), Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (64 million), and Office Romance (58 million) views.

On the TV side, His & Hers claims the No. 1 spot with 104 million views, followed closely by Bridgerton Season 4 with 100 million. Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You ranks third with 64 million views, while Stranger Things Season 5 and another Coben adaptation, Run Away, round out the top five with 56 million and 50 million views, respectively.

Ritchson’s sci-fi masterpiece War Machine streams on Netflix.

How Hannah Waddingham Deals With ‘Mummy Guilt’

Published

on

Hannah Waddingham at the BAFTA Film Awards 2026

Hannah Waddingham carries a huge weight away from those hit movies!

The “Ted Lasso” star got candid about the cons of spending long hours on set, especially when she has to leave her daughter at home, and how she navigates its effects.

Hannah Waddingham has spoken about her decision to become a mother at a time that allows her to balance the demands of motherhood with the requirements of her job.

The TV star unveils the emotional tug-of-war she faces when duty calls for her to be on movie sets, leading to time away from her daughter, whom she enjoys spending quality time with.

Traveling long distances has never been easy, and now that she has to do it again for another season of “Ted Lasso,” the actress admitted she is anticipating those feelings. In her words, “I’m about to go away to do press for the next season of Ted [Lasso], and the mummy guilt descends.”

When Waddingham’s daughter was just eight months old, she was approached with an offer to appear on “Game of Thrones” as Septa Unella, who won a lot of fans during her run.

She revealed that she initially considered passing on the offer, but it dawned on her that it would be a career-ending move. Looking back at her scenes on the hit HBO series, Waddingham could see someone trying to balance two overwhelming responsibilities at once.

To keep her grounded, she recalled bringing something her daughter made on set. In her interview with The Guardian, she revealed that she brought a cardboard handbag Kitty created to the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Waddingham picked it over a designer bag because it was practical and, more importantly, served as a reminder that her daughter is always with her in spirit.

Away from the gloominess, the actress went into how her love for performing began, even long before she found fame, thanks to growing up surrounded by theatre due to her mother’s career as an opera singer.

Waddingham recalled spending most of her childhood backstage at the London Coliseum, eventually inspiring her decision to film her Christmas special there instead of a more high-profile venue. The actress had earlier dreamed of becoming a singer whose music could move people emotionally, while also nurturing a passion for acting.

Her career naturally evolved towards appearing on screens in movies, but her international fame has not derailed her from remaining rooted in South West London. The actress then pushed back against the idea that theatre performers are driven by fame, saying her mother’s quiet dedication taught her otherwise.

Waddingham described her late mother as a remarkably gifted yet humble artist and credited it as the reason why she remains fiercely protective of the theatre community, believing its performers are motivated by passion rather than celebrity.

Hannah Waddingham Weighed In On The Realities Of Motherhood In Her Forties

The doting mother shared the truth about the timing of her decision to have a child, reiterating that she waited until she found the right moment to blend motherhood with a thriving career. As stated by Huffington Post, Waddingham added that it was important for her not to raise her offspring bearing resentment or conflict about missed opportunities.

The actress did not malign the blessing of becoming a parent as she conceived her baby naturally at age 39 via holistic wellness practices. Waddingham engaged in several mineral-balancing treatments, Reiki, and guidance from an Eastern practitioner.

However, raising her daughter, Kitty, whom she welcomed in 2014 with Italian hotel manager Gianluca Cugnetto, has not been a walk in the park. She admitted that it can also be draining to constantly show up for her daughter even on days that she had it rough on set.

After her relationship with Cugnetto ended in 2022, leaving her to become a single mother to a toddler, she realized that difficult endings often make way for unexpected opportunities.

She is gradually learning to take pride in her professional achievements, as it is important for Kitty to grow up seeing a mother who loves both her family and her work, just as she once watched her mother do.

The 51-Year-Old Credited ‘Ted Lasso’ For Changing Her Experience With Motherhood

The sacrifices on late-night movie sets away from her daughter paid off financially when the paychecks from her role on “Ted Lasso” came in. Waddingham admitted to The Standard that the show’s success made single parenting easier, giving her financial independence and stability to support herself and her daughter without relying on anyone else.

The show also transformed her personal and professional life as the role of Rebecca Welton marked a turning point, allowing the audience to see her as someone with flaws, fears, and vulnerabilities just like everybody else.

As the new season prepares to air, Waddingham wants viewers to embrace the latest episodes just like they did with the previous seasons. She commended the new female cast members, praising them for exuding confidence as they stepped into their roles, reassuring her that the next generation of actresses are not here to play.

Hannah Waddingham Put A Rude Photographer In Their Place In 2024

As shared by The Blast, the actress showcased her low tolerance for inappropriate behavior on the red carpet for the Olivier Awards when a photographer made a disturbing remark about her legs.

The movie star looked ravishing in a custom lilac number by Marchesa as she stepped onto the carpet at the London Royal Albert Hall, wearing a sparkling, diamond-embellished outfit and matching footwear. The photographer had asked Waddingham to turn and show him more of her legs during the photo session, prompting the actress to decline and protest that they would not make such a demand of a male actor.

Waddingham warned the photographer to desist from making such a sexist statement, as supporters on social media praised her for standing up to such an uncomfortable situation. One fan who shared the clip on social media noted that Waddingham’s response showed exactly why they consider her a role model for calling out misogyny when she encounters it.
