Ryan Murphy confirmed that season 13 of his FX series “American Horror Story” was in the works in October 2025. Now, as filming on the new installment of the anthology series is ongoing, he’s opening up about what fans can expect and revealing why theories that the season will be centered around “Coven” are misguided. This comes ahead of the premiere of his new show, “The Shards.”

Murphy attended the premiere event for his upcoming show, FX’s “The Shards.” While on the red carpet, he spoke to Entertainment Tonight and was asked about “American Horror Story” season 13, with the reporter noting that she was excited to see “Coven,” which was the third season of the show, make a comeback.

Murphy responded, “Well, everybody thinks it’s a coven season, and it’s not.” After that, the “Glee” producer confirmed another rumor about the show, saying, “It’s all the seasons.” He then discussed the cast, stating that Sarah Paulson will play “six or seven roles.” Regarding Jessica Lange, Murphy said she’s “playing all four of her iconic characters.

He continued, “Evan Peters is playing five characters. And of course, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, and Billie Lourd.”

Murphy continued his Entertainment Tonight interview by teasing a bit of the plot before returning to the cast of the upcoming season, with the reporter calling what he had previously described “like the Avengers.” According to him, “It is like the ‘Avengers.’ They all come together to defeat the ultimate evil.”

He continued, “So, it’s very fun, and as soon as I pitched it to them, many of them had said ‘no’ over the years, and they were like, ‘Well, okay, we’ve got to come back for that.” After that, he discussed Lange signing on for the season after leaving the show after the fourth season and vowing that she would never return.

Murphy shared, “But I pitched Jessica Lange, she was like, ‘Oh, sh-t, now I have to do it.” He added, “It’s all of them in one season, and it’s 13 episodes because it’s called 13.”

Toward the end of the interview, Murphy explained that he “spent many, many months and many years writing it. I wanted to do 13 in a special way. So, it’s cool. It’s fun.”

Ariana Grande Recently Dropped Out

As mentioned, season 13 of “American Horror Story” was announced in October 2025. According to USA Today, the cast, in addition to those previously named, included Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, and Ariana Grande.

However, according to Variety, the singer dropped out of the season due to scheduling conflicts with her ongoing tour and upcoming studio album, “Petal.” Her role would have been her “AHS” debut, serving as a reunion for her and Murphy following their work on “Scream Queens.”

Additionally, there have been other cast changes, with the additions of Paul Anthony Kelly, Joey Pollari, Berto Colon, and former “AHS” actors John Carroll Lynch and Mat Fraser.

Evan Peters Previously Discussed The Season

Evan Peters last appeared in “American Horror Story” during the show’s 10th season. Months after it was revealed that he’d be returning, he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in January 2026 while promoting another Murphy show, “The Beauty.”

The 39-year-old told the outlet, “First of all, it’s working with Ryan [Murphy] again, but second of all, he’s assembled the cast from all the different seasons.”

He continued, “It’s sort of an alumni, and we’re all getting back together to do this greatest-hits season. So we’ll see what he writes and what it brings. But just the chance to be able to work with Sarah [Paulson], Jessica, Kathy [Bates], Angela [Bassett] again and everybody involved. I’m interested to see what the scenes are and how it all plays out.”

When asked if he was surprised by Lange finally agreeing to return to the series, Peters said, “Yes! Yeah, Ryan knows how to have those dinners. He will get you in a second. I was definitely shocked, but thrilled, honestly.” Season 13 of the show premieres on September 24.

Murphy is one of the most prolific names in television, with several shows premiering each year. Now, his newest, “The Shards,” is set to debut on FX and Hulu on August 5. According to Deadline, the series comes from 20th Century Fox and Ryan Murphy Productions.

Notably, the new show is based on Bret Easton Ellis‘ 2023 novel of the same name. Its logline states, “Set against the vivid backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles, the series follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school as they navigate identity, sex, jealousy, obsession, and the dangers lurking beneath the surface of American adolescence.”

In another interview, Rowland reflected on her passion for acting, highlighting some of her favorite past roles, and teased the possibility of portraying the iconic Donna Summer in a future biopic.

“I would love nothing more than that role. That’s all I can say,” Rowland hinted after being asked about an Instagram picture of her appearing to sport the late singer’s signature hairstyle. “That’s all I can say for now.”

“I’m hoping you won’t be waiting long,” she added. “All of us have our fingers crossed, toes crossed. We’re just totally crossed out.”

Justin Hartley takes his role as a leader on Tracker very seriously — especially when it comes to the environment on set.

“The feeling that we had on This Is Us was where everyone was there for the baby. The baby was the show,” Hartley, 49, recalled on a recent episode of the “I Am an Actor” podcast. “I said, ‘I want to keep that for the rest of my career.’”

Hartley mirrored that approach on CBS’ hit series.

“I want to make sure that that comes with me to Tracker and we’ve managed to do that,” he noted. “There’s no yelling and none of that kind of weird stuff that tends to happen sometimes on sets.They get high stress, and we try not to do that.”

It was important for the actor that Tracker approached things differently. “We try not to do that. That doesn’t help,” he continued. “It doesn’t help people very much.”

Hartley concluded: “[We try to] just protect it. Stick up for yourself and all that kind of stuff. Things can get heated, but we’re grown-ups. We still [have] respect, and all this is very, very important.”

Hartley serves as both the lead and an executive producer on the show, which found its audience as soon as it premiered. After making its debut following the Super Bowl in February 2024, Tracker became the most-watched broadcast premiere in three years. The show that previously held the title was NCIS‘ final episode with Mark Harmon in September 2021.

The viewership only increased from there, with CBS revealing in December 2024 that Tracker averaged 18.2 million viewers per episode, according to their Paramount+ and broadcast measurements.

As Tracker continued to set TV records and raise viewership numbers, Hartley credited the storytelling for setting the show apart.

Hartley added: “He would not just remain the same exact person every single week. We were hopeful people would like it. People ended up loving it. I think there’s a huge appetite for this kind of show.”

Emmy Rossum has revealed the reason she walked away from the “Shameless” set almost a decade ago.

The actress recently shed light on her decision to leave the series even after being bumped up the pay grade. In the process, she cleared the air on the widely publicized misconceptions surrounding her exit from the Showtime drama series.

Rossum disclosed why her decision to leave “Shameless” could not be changed despite being offered “very life-changing money” to continue the show. She revealed that she already had a mental picture for the next chapter of her life and there was “no number” that could persuade her to give up her dreams.

“I really felt like, when they came and asked for the last contract extension, that I couldn’t do it. There was no number that was going to make me want to stray from my goal. I’ve never really been motivated by money,” she explained.

The industry star had been on the Showtime series for nine seasons before saying goodbye to her onscreen family. She explained that she never expected the pilot to be picked up or that the series would become a long-running hit.

Rossum admits that she was “amazed” every time another contract extension came up. After being on the show so long, the actress wanted more for her career, and this forged her decision to leave the show in 2018.

“Shameless” stars Hollywood veteran William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher while Rossum played his daughter, Fiona, who held the home front down due to Frank’s alcoholism. The actress explained on the podcast that when the show initially began, it made a lot of sense for Macy to earn a lot more money than she did.

However, as time went on, her character became a major on the show, and she became Macy’s co-lead. With time, some fans even argued that Rossum was “Shameless” bona fide lead as her character, Fiona, had more screen time than Frank in many episodes.

Latto, whose real name is Alyssa Michelle Stephens, shared footage from Saint-Tropez, in which she’s standing on a boat wearing a black thong bikini. The ‘It’s Givin’ artist is seen from the side in the video, and she’s serving body-ody!
