How The Most Beloved ‘80s Cartoon Destroyed Millennials And Made Them Consumer Slaves

How The Most Beloved ‘80s Cartoon Destroyed Millennials And Made Them Consumer Slaves

By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

When 1986’s Transformers: The Movie came out, this animated masterpiece did the last thing its young fans expected by killing off Optimus Prime. This tough-but-tender truck man was more than the leader of the Autobots: he was a pseudo-father to them and, by extension, to the audience. The filmmakers killed Prime off as a blunt way to demonstrate that this movie was playing for keeps, especially compared to the cartoon. Of course, there was an ulterior motive at play here. By killing off Optimus Prime and many other characters, the film could introduce new characters whose toys the young audience would implore their parents to buy after the credits rolled.

As those Transformers fans got older, many of them joked about how the animated film effectively killed their childhood by bumping off someone as cool and memorable as Prime. However, the movie’s goal of selling more toys had a far more insidious effect that none of us ‘80s kids could actually predict. You see, this movie was ground zero for the explosion of nostalgia that has dominated every Millennial’s life for the last two decades. Transformers: The Movie effectively taught us the worst possible lesson: that we should never put away our toys, and that we’re just one more throwback purchase away from reclaiming the happiness of our childhood.

Welcome To Prime Time

The Transformers: The Movie 1986

Transformers: The Movie has a pretty relentless pace. After a bit of world-building (including the introduction of the Galactus-like Big Bad, Unicron), we see the Decepticons take over an Autobot ship, horrifically killing everyone onboard. They use this to launch a daring raid on Autobot City, and it soon looks like the bad guys are going to win the day. That changes when Optimus Prime launches a one-man counter-assault that ends with a duel against Megatron, the ruthless Decepticon leader. Prime wins the battle with one final blow, but he has sustained too much damage and later succumbs to his injuries.

In some ways, that makes things worse. Optimus Prime doesn’t get a quick death like other ‘bots, including Starscream. Instead, we watch him slowly and excruciatingly die in the Autobot equivalent of a hospital room. He flatlines, and all hope is lost. We literaly see the light leave his eyes. As if that’s not bad enough, his entire body turns gray, emphasizing the horrific transformation we just watched. This is no longer the strong, vibrant hero of a mighty army. He’s now just a collection of spare parts. Looking back, older Transformers fans consider this the moment their childhood died, which is ironic. After all, this franchise is why our childhood never ended.

The Real Neverending Story

The Transformers: The Movie 1986

While Transformers has successfully reinvented itself for later generations (just take a look at the toy aisle if you don’t believe me), the original cartoon and movie were squarely aimed at a young, Millennial audience. As this audience grew up, nostalgia became a core part of our identity. There are several theories about why this is. Some think Millennials, as the last pre-internet generation, long for the days before everything went digital. Revisiting the shows, films, and the toys of that era is an attempt to recapture the magic and innocence of our childhood.

Unfortunately, Millennials never really learned to put the toys away. Hollywood is well aware of this collective nostalgia fixation and constantly floods the big screen with endless prequels, sequels, and reboots. After all, why try something new when most of your core audience is longing for something old? This is how we inexplicably got a third trilogy of Star Wars movies focused on Skywalker family drama. Even when we get a nominally new IP like Stranger Things, it has to be soaked in enough ‘80s nostalgia that it tickles the same part of our brains that still likes playing with vintage toys.

Nostalgia Pill: Transform, And Roll Out!

The Transformers: The Movie 1986

Now, why am I blaming so much of this depressing phenomenon on Transformers: The Movie? In an attempt to sell toys based on new characters, the filmmakers taught the child audience the worst possible lesson: when an old toy dies, just replace it with a new one. Is Optimus Prime dead? No problem, Ultra Magnus has the Matrix of Leadership now. Wait, they just pulled Magnus apart? No worries, Hot Rod is about to get an upgrade (be sure to buy both figures!). By the time my generation grew older, there was never a thought about putting away childish things because constant consumption of nostalgia slop became our corporate-friendly raison d’etre.

Speaking of which, companies constantly fill store shelves with toys that we scoop up, hoping that we’ll eventually have enough plastic crap to fill that void deep inside us. These tchotchkes are a way of microdosing nostalgia; an attempt to recapture the joy we felt at getting a new Transformer growing up. We never really attain that level of joy, which is part of a very specific tragedy. Namely, that Millennials, often referred to as the “bridge” generation, are stuck between two very different eras. Not fully online, yet unable to put the digital cat back in the bag, the best we can do is swim towards the receding shore of the past, one rerun at a time.

One Shall Rent, One Shall Fall

The Transformers: The Movie 1986

Sadly, endlessly watching the Autobots and Decepticons fighting each other won’t teach us to transform into our childhood selves. Just as you can’t go home again, you can never truly return to the past. All you can do is look at fragments of it, hoping to catch a reflection of yourself from the last time you were truly happy. But fragments of happiness are better than no happiness at all, so we continue to pursue our inner peace, one rerun at a time. Sadly, Transformers: The Movie isn’t available to stream, but you can rent it on a platform whose name Optimus would approve of: Prime Video.

While you’re on Amazon, be sure to order a new toy. Don’t worry; I’m sure this will be the one that finally makes everything better!

Keke Palmer And Sean Evans Fuel Romance Rumors

Published

on

KeKe Palmer on the red carpet.

Keke Palmer and Sean Evans have reignited romance rumors after being spotted together enjoying a cozy dinner. The pair’s outing quickly drew online attention, with many speculating about the nature of their relationship.

The actress and the YouTube personality first met in 2017, when the former appeared as a guest on “Hot Ones.” Palmer has since returned to the show two more times, with the third appearance sending fans into a frenzy after she and Evans shared a kiss. With their undeniable chemistry, many can’t help but speculate about whether there is something more than friendship between the two.

On June 12, Keke Palmer and “Hot Ones” host Sean Evans were seen dining together at Lucali in Brooklyn. Celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi posted a photo of the two seemingly deep in conversation.

A source also told TMZ that the dinner lasted for more than 90 minutes, and Evans looked like he was “smitten” with the actress. Despite the dating rumors, the insider observed that the dinner was more like a meal between friends.

One user commented on Deuxmoi’s post, saying, “You can tell just by this picture that she genuinely likes him but the interaction is platonic.” Others shipped the two, with one suggesting the couple name “KeSean,” and another writing, “He was smiling like a schoolgirl, she was acting like zendaya… it is meant to be!”

Sean Evans Admitted To Having A Crush On The Actress

Palmer and Evans first met in 2017 on “Hot Ones” to promote her movie “Berlin Station.” Four years later, she returned to the show for a second time.

In 2023, Evans was a guest on “Chicken Shop Date,” and host Amelia Dimoldenberg asked him whether he had ever had a crush on any of the celebrity guests on “Hot Ones.” The show premiered on YouTube in 2015 and has since welcomed hundreds of celebrity guests. The setup has Evans interviewing celebrities while eating chicken wings dabbed with hot sauce that progressively gets spicier.

Evans told Dimoldenberg he had a crush on Palmer, adding, “Very charming. Very charming woman.”

After Evans’ revelation, Palmer took to Instagram to post that segment of “Chicken Shop Date,” adding the caption, “It was love at first hot wing — this was too kind,” and tagging Evans.

In 2024, PEOPLE asked Palmer about her reaction to what Evans said about her, to which she replied, “I was living for it,” adding that she had “good chemistry” with the “Hot Ones” host.

“Not to say that I was surprised or I wasn’t surprised. But when I heard it and people were sending it to me, I was like, ‘I knew the vibes were vibing,” the actress said.

The Two Shared A Kiss That Went Viral

Palmer returned to “Hot Ones” for a third time in September 2025. “We’re back together again,” Palmer said. “I can’t quit you,” Evans replied.

At the end of the episode, Palmer acknowledged that she’d seen the host talking about his crush on her. “I know we’ve just had some wings, but I thought that maybe we could just have a quick smooch to see if there’s a spark,” she then suggested.

Evans agreed, and the two shared a quick smack. “The spark was sparking,” the actress could be heard saying after. “When I’m dying, and my life flashes before my eyes, I’ll have that snapshot. You’re amazing. I love you,” Evans said.

They Reunited On Keke Palmer’s Podcast

In May 2026, several months after they shared a kiss, Evans guested on Palmer’s podcast, “Baby, This is Keke Palmer.” The two continued their flirty banter, with the singer introducing Evans as her “potential future suitor.”

During their conversation, Palmer asked Evans about his first crush. He revealed that it was TLC’s Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Palmer then said that she portrayed Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas in the 2013 TLC movie, “Close enough,” she added.

At one point, they looked at videos of their moments together throughout the years, including the kiss. “I think they probably thought it was scripted because you didn’t seem surprised at all,” Palmer said. Evans noted that he didn’t have to think about it, adding, “Once I heard the offer and the conditions, I immediately signed.”

The Alleged Betrayal Behind Taylor Swift’s Lost Friend

Published

on

Taylor Swift and Keleigh Sperry

A friendship that once appeared inseparable is now reportedly hanging by a thread. Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller were frequently seen together during some of the singer’s biggest public moments, but new claims suggest their bond has unraveled in dramatic fashion.

With wedding rumors, hurt feelings, and competing accounts fueling speculation, sources say the fallout has now affected the people closest to them.

Not long ago, Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller appeared to be among Hollywood’s closest friends.

Their friendship reportedly dates back more than a decade, but insiders claim it became significantly stronger in 2023 after Swift began dating NFL star Travis Kelce. Keleigh’s husband, actor Miles Teller, already had connections within Kelce’s circle, helping bring the two couples closer together.

The friendship seemed especially strong around Swift’s 34th birthday when Keleigh gifted her an extravagant opal ring.

Reacting to the gift, Swift wrote, “Wow. This is like a present for Elizabeth Taylor, not me.”

Keleigh responded warmly, telling the singer, “You’re my Elizabeth Taylor.”

According to one source, Keleigh also played an important role during the early stages of Swift’s relationship with Kelce.

“Travis wasn’t looking for anything serious and once you get into the Taylor world, it’s instantly serious,” the insider told the Daily Mail.

The source added that Keleigh encouraged the relationship and helped the pair grow closer.

Claims Of Jealousy And Growing Tension

As Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller’s friendship strengthened, sources claim not everyone around them was thrilled about the growing bond.

One insider alleged that Blake Lively became uncomfortable with how close the pair had become. According to the source, Lively allegedly “felt threatened by Keleigh and Taylor’s closeness and tried to tear their friendship apart to be Taylor’s number one.”

The same source claimed Lively was “jealous” after seeing photos of Swift and Keleigh together in New York.

Another issue reportedly emerged when private messages connected to Lively’s legal dispute with Justin Baldoni became public.

According to a second source, Keleigh was unsettled by the situation.

“Keleigh didn’t want to be a part of it, and couldn’t believe they were talking like that to each other,” the insider alleged.

The source also claimed friction increased before a major awards show after Swift invited Keleigh to attend. When Keleigh reportedly withdrew for personal reasons, tensions allegedly surfaced.

“Friends told Keleigh to protect her mental health, she needs to take space, but they were still in contact here and there,” the source said.

The insider added, “Keleigh’s friends were very protective.”

Not everyone viewed the situation the same way. Another source claimed Keleigh remained loyal because “Nobody wants to be on the outside,” while also alleging she “wants to be relevant.”

Taylor Swift Friendship Reportedly Reached A Breaking Point

By the middle of 2024, insiders claim the relationship had deteriorated significantly.

One source alleged that people close to Swift and Kelce had become frustrated with the Tellers and pointed to differing “lifestyles” as a factor in the growing distance.

Another insider strongly disagreed with that explanation and argued that Swift’s actions played a larger role in the friendship’s collapse.

The source pointed to the devastating Pacific Palisades Fire, which reportedly destroyed the Tellers’ home.

“When Keleigh and Miles’s house burned down in the fires and Taylor didn’t call or check in at all, Keleigh just let the friendship go,” the source claimed.

The insider added, “That was the nail in the coffin of the friendship.”

A separate source defended Swift, claiming the singer was simply “exhausted” and “only in touch with very few people after almost two years on the road.”

According to reports, Keleigh later appeared to endorse criticism of Swift by liking a social media comment that read, “Pretty sure the woman lost her damn home in a fire. I think there’s way more things going on in her life than Taylor Swift. Good lord.”

Another source also claimed Keleigh had previously expressed frustration about her place within Swift’s social circle.

“Keleigh told Taylor she felt like she was always playing second, third or even fourth fiddle to her other friends,” the insider alleged.

Wedding Rumors And Reconciliation Efforts Continue

The reported fallout has led to speculation about whether the Tellers will attend Swift and Kelce’s expected wedding celebrations.

Sources told the Daily Mail that mutual friends are still working behind the scenes to repair the friendship.

One insider claimed, “All of our friends are currently trying to fix this but it’s hard to come back from losing everything and not hearing from your once closest friend.”

Despite those efforts, the source alleged Keleigh remains hesitant.

According to the insider, she worries that attending the wedding would only make “Taylor look good” and leave her feeling “like a doormat.”

The source added, “Keleigh wants the friendship to work itself out naturally without media book ending it.”

They also said, “She is literally still heartbroken.”

Friends reportedly continue encouraging reconciliation, with one source saying they have urged her, “Look, just come and we’ll all be fine after.”

Meanwhile, some observers pointed to Miles Teller’s appearance on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast as evidence that the feud had cooled.

However, one source rejected that idea, insisting, “There is no reason to read into that at all.”

Taylor Swift Fallout Reportedly Impacts Miles Teller

While the reported issues began between Swift and Keleigh, sources claim the tension eventually extended to their partners.

According to one insider, Miles Teller is “absolutely disgusted” by some of the narratives that have emerged publicly, particularly claims involving alleged lifestyle differences between the couples.

The same source alleged that Kelce failed to intervene as the friendship deteriorated and claimed he had not “stepped in” for a long period of time.

However, insiders also suggested Kelce may have recently tried to reconnect with Miles and feels “bad” about how things unfolded.

As speculation continues, another source offered a broader explanation for the friendship’s end.

“Taylor changes all the time,” the insider claimed. “She ebbs and flows with whoever she’s hanging out with. The Keleigh relationship – she’s just not doing that anymore.”

For now, the once-close friendship remains the subject of competing accounts, unanswered questions, and ongoing efforts to bring the former friends back together.

Brendan Fraser’s Underdog Hit Climbs Past Clint Eastwood’s WWII Classic at the Box Office

Published

on

pressure-brendan-fraser

Mocking mortality itself, Clint Eastwood worked prolifically for more than three decades after directing what many thought would be a swan song. It was back in 1991 that Eastwood made Unforgiven, the Oscar-winning Western that Hollywood honored left, right, and center because it assumed that he was hanging up his boots. Little did the industry know that he would make roughly one new movie a year for the next 30 years. Tragically, Eastwood has now retired for good, having directed his last movie at the ripe age of 93. The movie in question, Juror #2, was released directly on HBO Max in 2023, and is sitting at a terrific 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s a sharp rebuke to Quentin Tarantino‘s theory about filmmakers losing their touch as they get older. Eastwood was arguably operating at the peak of his powers in the 2000s, when he made hits such as Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, and Gran Torino.

It was during this same run that Eastwood put together perhaps his most ambitious project of the 2000s — the World War II epics Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. Both movies presented the same chapter of history from contrasting perspectives. Surprisingly, Letters from Iwo Jima, which featured a predominantly Japanese cast and offered the so-called enemy’s point-of-view, ended up receiving better reviews and delivering better box-office results. While Flags of Our Fathers grossed $65 million worldwide against a reported budget of $90 million, Letters from Iwo Jima earned nearly $70 million worldwide against a reported budget of under $20 million. The Japanese-language epic received four Oscar nominations, including in the Best Picture category.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

Clint Eastwood Revolutionary WWII Movie Has Been Overtaken at the Box Office

Two decades later, the movie’s $13.7 million domestic haul has been overtaken by a new WWII hit — Pressure, starring Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott. Directed by Anthony Maras, Pressure has proven to be quietly successful at the box office on the strength of excellent reviews and audience reception. It holds a “Certified Fresh” 86% critics’ score and a “Verified Hot” 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website’s consensus reads, “Finding a fresh angle on one of the most dramatized days in military history, Pressure is a brainy war film that derives most of its thrills from Andrew Scott’s simmering performance.” Pressure will no doubt do extremely well on the PVOD market, as movies with high audience scores tend to. But first, it remains to be seen if it has the juice to overtake the $14.5 million haul of Russell Crowe‘s Nuremberg. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

‘Disclosure Day’ Sends Netflix’s Beloved Sci-Fi Series Soaring Up Streaming Charts

Published

on

okxbwbxmnwfo2wh1qrttshdfira.jpg

The legendary Steven Spielberg‘s first sci-fi movie in nearly a decade, Disclosure Day, debuted this week to positive reviews and solid box-office results. The film was expected to gross around $70 million globally in its first weekend of release, but was able to comfortably top that figure. It also grossed around $10 million more than it was expected to domestically, topping the chart by overcoming last week’s number one film, Scary Movie, and the holdover phenomenon Obsession. Disclosure Day stars Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor and combines the thrills of a 1970s conspiracy movie with old-school Spielbergian sci-fi. Audiences inspired to revisit some of Spielberg’s back catalog might also want to check out a new Netflix series that owes a tremendous creative debt to the filmmaker’s oft-imitated style.

The series in question was executive-produced by the Duffer Brothers, who famously mined Spielberg’s earlier hits for their blockbuster series Stranger Things. That show concluded its five-season run at the end of 2025, after which the Duffers lent their support to other writers. They executive-produced the acclaimed Netflix horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, as well as the animated spin-off series Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

The Perfect ‘Disclosure Day’ Lead-In Exists

However, their latest sci-fi series has proven to be a bigger hit, both critically and in terms of viewership. We’re talking, of course, about The Boroughs. After three weeks, it has accumulated more than 115 million hours watched, according to Netflix. The Boroughs has also received critical acclaim, and is now sitting at a “Certified Fresh” 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website’s consensus reads, “The Boroughs exudes excellence through its wonderfully plotted sci-fi trappings, star-studded cast, heartfelt narrative, and genuine ingenuity; a new classic through-and-through.” In her review, Collider’s Greer Riddell praised the show for not dipping into the Stranger Things well and standing on its own feet. The Boroughs follows a group of retirees who band together to take down a mysterious foe at their facility. It stars Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters, Jena Malone, and others. The eight-episode series, created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, is still among Netflix’s top 10 most-watched titles domestically, according to FlixPatrol. You can watch The Boroughs on Netflix and Disclosure Day in theaters. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

A thrill-seeking adventure in Brazil ended with the death of a 21-year-old woman on Saturday, June 13. And disturbing footage of the fatal bungee jumping accident has already gone viral. The clip shows staff tossing Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas over a bridge more than 100 feet high, without a safety cord attached. Latest reports say that local police have arrested at least six people following the shocking incident.

21-Year-Old Reportedly Joked About Bungee Jumping Before Death

From X (formerly Twitter) to Instagram and Threads, a failed bungee jump is shocking viewers and sparking sympathy for the deceased 21-year-old. The video surfaced late Saturday and shows the woman, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues, with her arms outstretched as three men lift her up. She’s wearing a helmet and what appears to be a harness. On the bridge, near the man lifting her by her feet, there’s a long rope. After getting her body in the air, two men walked her forward, toward the edge of the bungee jumping set-up. After a brief moment, they toss her over the edge with no attachments. Not even a second later, the two men and onlookers appeared to realize the alleged mistake—Maria’s harness wasn’t attached to any safety system.

According to PEOPLE and reports from Brazilian outlets, the incident happened on the Ponte do Esqueleto bridge, also known as Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo in Brazil. Media outlet G1 reports that she fell about 131 feet without a safety cord. According to TMZ, emergency crews and a police helicopter showed up after the fall, but Maria was pronounced dead on the scene. She was reportedly bungee jumping as part of a guided adventure package.

Meanwhile, another outlet named O Globo, reports that Maria Eduarda Rodrigues posted about bungee jumping on social media. Then, shortly afterward, she was tossed to her death.

“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge,” Maria reportedly wrote on IG Stories before her profile was allegedly taken down.

Authorities In Brazil Make Arrests In Connection To Maria Eduarda Rodrigues’ Death

O Globo and G1 have both reported arrested in connection to Maria’s death. Six people have allegedly been arrested following the incident. Police in Brazil reportedly arrested three of the six at the scene, charing them with homicide with implied malice. According to PEOPLE, the charge was applied because it refers to an incident where someone intentionally committed an inherently dangerous act with conscious disregard that led to a death. It’s unclear who the three others arrested are or what charges they face. However, Brazil’s Civil Police is still investigating the incident, per multiple outlets.

“It was a team there that wasn’t regulated; they didn’t even have authorization to be there,” Delegate Andrea Dantas Levy reportedly told G1. “They ended up organizing this event, and,” he contended, “this fatality happened today, in my perception, due to a failure to verify and supervise the placement of the rope on the victim’s jump.”

Separately, the Limeira City Council reportedly plans to file a complaint against Brazil’s federal government in connection to the fatal incident.

Defendants’ Lawyers Speak As Social Media Sounds Off About Shocking Footage

Lawyers for defendants in the case have allegedly defended the experience of the staff involved. Apparently, they are “very” experienced. The lawyers reportedly highlighted that this is the first death in years with the company behind the bungee jumping.

Meanwhile, social media is still in shambles over the shocking footage. Reactions include questions about how everyone, from the staff to the onlookers, didn’t notice Maria wasn’t attached to a rope or safety cord before going over the edge.

Milo Ventimiglia’s Wife Shares Glimpse Into Parenthood

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

Milo Ventimiglia‘s wife Jarah Mariano is sharing a rare glimpse into their life as parents as the couple prepare to welcome baby number two.

Taking to her Instagram on Saturday, June 13, Mariano, 42, posted a carousel of photos and images which featured the This Is Us alum and their 18-month-old daughter Ke’ala.

One wholesome image showed Mariano holding Ke’ala as she stretched out to touch a horse.

Another snap featured Ventimiglia, 48, posing with Ke’ala strapped to his back and a dog in front of him.

Other pictures displayed Mariano’s growing baby bump as the couple gear up to welcome their second child together.  Ke’ala’s face was obscured in all photos, seemingly to protect her privacy.

“Some different views of the first half of 2026 in no particular order. Being present, being grateful, just being. Sending out the love to you all,” Mariano captioned the post.

Mariano and Ventimiglia welcomed Ke’ala in January 2025 two weeks after the couple’s Malibu home burned down in wildfires that devastated California. A year after Ke’ala’s birth, they announced they were expecting their second child together.

The Gilmore Girls alum appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February and spoke about how he was adjusting to fatherhood as well as joking they “must be crazy” to go back-to-back with a second pregnancy.

“She’s actually doing great. She’s sleeping through the night. She loves to wake up at 5.40 in the morning and talk to herself, kinda jabber on and whatnot. My wife and I are lying in bed like, ‘Does she have her [pacifier]?’ ‘I don’t know. I can’t tell from the monitor.’ ‘Did she poop herself?’ ‘I don’t know. I can’t tell from the monitor,’” he said. “And then you’re kind of like, after a certain period of time, you know this. You walk in there, you’re like, well, she didn’t poop herself, and she’s got her [pacifier], so the world’s good.”

Milo Ventimiglia has loved embracing daddy duty. “I hang with my kid,” Ventimiglia, 48, said of his favorite hobbies on the Thursday, February 19, episode of Annie F. Downs’ “That Sounds Fun” podcast. “[I’m] just watching my daughter, kind of, observe life and be curious herself.” Ventimiglia’s wife, Jarah Mariano, gave birth to their daughter, […]

Ventimiglia added that he initially had big plans to be a “wonder-parent” but was forced to be more realistic and do the best he could after a tough year.

“Listen, my wife is the most unbelievable — Jarah, if you’re watching, you are the most unbelievable human being, creature, species of everything. She handles everything great. But, you know, I mean, when you’re a first parent too, you kind of think you’re going to be this wonder-parent,” he explained.

He continued, “I was striving to. I’m like, ‘Cool, man. I’m going to be the healthiest. We’re going to feed this baby organic. We’re going to buy blenders, do all this stuff. We’re going to go argue with some dude named Kale about blueberries at the farmers’ market.’ Then, after a while, you’re like, ‘Oh, man, we had quite a year.’”

Avengers: Doomsday Synopsis Reveals Over Half A Decade Of Secret Planning

Published

Captain America Chris Evans

Captain America Chris Evans

Marvel fans are gearing up to see their friendly neighborhood web-head swing back into theaters next month in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a film destined to become this summer’s biggest blockbuster. However, that’s just the appetizer for fans of this cinematic universe. The main course will be Avengers: Doomsday, which comes out on December 18. So far, most of the details on that ambitious crossover extravaganza have been kept a secret, meaning fans could only speculate about this movie’s story based on early trailers. Now, though, Marvel Studios has released an official synopsis for Doomsday.

Aside from details about the cast, the directors, and the producers, the synopsis only contains a one-sentence description of the upcoming film’s plot. “In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.” That’s not much to go on, but Marvel comics fans think they’ve deciphered what this means. If they are right, we know exactly what to expect about this (quite literally) universe-shattering plot, and those details reveal something astounding: that Marvel has been planning the major events of this film for over half a decade, littering films and TV shows with clues!

The Devil’s In The Details

mark ruffalo marvel

So, what does this synopsis actually mean? Marvel Comics superfans agree that the part about universes being “on a deadly collision course” and facing “an existential threat” is quite literal. In the comics, Doctor Doom’s multiversal shenanigans set off a chain of events in which parallel realities keep colliding with one another, destroying both. To avoid this outcome, there is only one option: one Earth must destroy the other before the collision begins. Afterward, Doom merges the destroyed realities into a Battleworld under his control. Once he’s defeated, the primary universe is reset, but with some changes, like the addition of Miles Morales.

What does that mean for Avengers: Doomsday and the MCU? Doom is going to similarly set off these multiversal incursions, and we’re going to see three different universes fight for survival. In all likelihood, those universes will be the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man universe, and the original X-Men universe. Those universes will be destroyed, but Doom will revive and merge them into a Battleworld. After he’s beaten in Secret Wars, we’ll have a reset MCU where certain characters and actors have changed. There will also be lore changes, like the introduction of the X-Men and other mutants into the MCU.

Are You Down With Multiverses?

doctor strange 2

As cool as this sounds, some Marvel fans are skeptical because Avengers: Doomsday feels like a Plan B. Everybody knows that Kang was supposed to be the next Big Bad and only got replaced because of Jonathan Majors’ legal woes. That’s enough to make a cynic think that Doomsday is just a bunch of weird ideas held together by nostalgia. However, some comics fans have been deciphering more clues, and they have reached an amazing conclusion. Namely, that Marvel Studios has been secretly building up to Doomsday for over half a decade!

How does that work? For one thing, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness explicitly introduced the idea of multiversal incursions. If Doomsday had been the first film to introduce this idea into the MCU, fans would likely wonder why we hadn’t already heard of it. Now, Doomsday is building its whole plot on a key thematic element from Multiverse of Madness: namely, that incursions are dangerous, and those causing them can endanger potentially countless lives throughout each universe. That point is further driven home by a villain accidentally causing an incursion in The Marvels.

A Universe Without Its Anchor

robert downey jr

Additionally, while we won’t see more incursions until Avengers: Doomsday, we’ve already seen the TVA “pruning” reality and destroying entire multiverses at a time. Furthermore, Deadpool & Wolverine introduced the idea of Anchor Beings whose entire universes will slowly disappear once they die. The intentional destruction of universes will likely play a role in Doom setting off the incursions (maybe he uses TVA tech or resources to travel to different realities). The TVA’s looser grip on the multiverse may even play a role in worlds colliding. Finally, there are persistent rumors that Tony Stark was the MCU’s anchor being, and his death paved the way for the arrival of Doom, his multiversal counterpart.

Obviously, we won’t know exactly how accurate all of these predictions are until Avengers: Doomsday comes out. But the official synopsis lines up with the comics this movie and Secret Wars are based on, and it really does seem like Marvel has been building up to Doomsday by dropping powerful clues in previous movies and shows. Hopefully, all of this buildup will have a correspondingly rewarding payoff. Otherwise, the blockbuster film intended to cure superhero fatigue may serve as the final nail in the coffin for the most successful cinematic universe in Hollywood history.
