‘Street Fighter’ Star Confirms Long-Term Franchise Plans Are Already in Motion
Summary
- Collider’s Steve Weintraub talks with CinemaCon 2026’s Star of Tomorrow, Noah Centineo.
- Centineo is set to lead Street Fighter, John Rambo, and Gundam.
- In this interview, Centineo discusses when filming begins for Gundam, the behind-the-scenes work for Street Fighter, and how he became John Rambo in the franchise’s upcoming prequel.
While at CinemaCon 2026, Collider’s Steve Weintraub had the opportunity to catch up with Noah Centineo, who was celebrated with the Star of Tomorrow award at the Big Screen Achievement Awards this year, alongside fellow honorees James Cameron, Queen Latifah, Adam Scott, and more. This particular accolade highlights stars on the rise with an epic slate of projects on the horizon. Centineo, best known for his roles in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Black Adam, Warfare, and Netflix’s The Recruit, couldn’t be a more fitting recipient with the lineup of features he’s got coming our way, including this year’s Street Fighter with Paramount Pictures.
From director Kitao Sakurai (Beef, Butterfly), this hotly anticipated arcade adaptation takes audiences back to 1993 and reintroduces all our favorite characters on the biggest screen. The movie is filmed for IMAX, and will feature all of the game’s most iconic moves, Hadoukens, and a story that reunites Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Centineo), when Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. Street Fighter also stars Jason Momoa as Blanka, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Eric André as Don Sauvage, 50 Cent as Balrog, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, and Olivier Richters as Zangief.
Check out the full conversation in the video above, or in the transcript below, where Centineo discusses the intense training regimen he and the cast underwent to prepare for Street Fighters before ever calling action, who out of the cast is the best Street Fighter player, and which scene he can’t wait for fans to see on screen. This Star of Tomorrow also shares details on how he became John Rambo for the prequel film, from Sisu director Jalmari Helander, and the emotional scene that became his “North Star” throughout filming, as well as teases the live-action adaptation of Gundam, alongside Sydney Sweeney.
‘Street Fighter’ Movie Recreates Psycho Crusher, Tornado Kicks, and More Classic Moves
“We did six weeks of training before we ever said action.”
COLLIDER: Let’s talk about the most important thing, which is that the Street Fighter footage looks awesome. One of the things I have really taken away from here at CinemaCon is that you guys have recreated moves from the game, specifically Street Fighter II, for the movie. Talk a little bit about that.
NOAH CENTINEO: Absolutely. Jon Valera, our stunt coordinator, is a monster. He’s revered in the stunt industry, and now I know why, certainly. When designing the fights, they wanted to stay true to the real characters and their different fighting styles and their special moves, and so we did six weeks of training before we ever said action, me, [Andrew] Koji, and Callina [Liang]. Callina, their fighting style was more wushu. Koji had more gōjū-ryū mixed with Shotokan karate, and I was more Shotokan karate mixed with a little bit of Muay Thai kickboxing and boxing.
So, with all of the characters’ actual fighting styles in mind, that was how Jon Valera organized all of the fights in the film. Then, you see it in the trailer, you see it in the teaser that was released as well, they’re just all in there, whether it’s the Psycho Crusher or Koji’s tornado kick. The list goes on and on.
Who in the cast is the best at Street Fighter II?
CENTINEO: I think it’s Andrew Schulz. I’m the worst, that’s for sure. I’m not good.
Did you play Ken in the game and you’re terrible?
CENTINEO: No, yeah. When I grew up, I always played with Blanka or Dhalsim.
Dhalsim? You have to be awesome to win with that character.
CENTINEO: Yeah, yeah, he’s a difficult character to play with.
I like Ken, and I like Zangief a lot.
CENTINEO: Zangief is crazy. I know that Koji always played with Ken or Ryu, and Callina only played with Chun-Li.
That makes sense.
CENTINEO: Well, it makes sense, too, because for her, she was like, I’m struggling to remember exactly what she said, but just like she was the first playable female character in the Street Fighter game, and she was Chinese, and Callina is also Chinese, so she was just like, “That’s me.” So she played with her.
Totally.
This thing is loaded with action, and it just looks cool. Which sequence is that one that you’re like, “I cannot wait for Street Fighter fans to see it?”
CENTINEO: I don’t think I can tell you a bunch, but there’s a sequence where all the lighting is like purple, and it’s in the trailer. It’s not red and blue, it’s purple, and Zangief is involved, and that sequence is raw. I won’t tell you why. I just love that whole sequence.
There’s no way they’re thinking about it as a one-and-done movie, so talk a little bit about how much of the story did they tell you in terms of, like, “If this is successful, we’re thinking about this kind of an arc for Ken, or this kind of an arc for this universe,” and how much is sort of like, “Let’s just make one movie and let’s see what happens?”
CENTINEO: You’re definitely spot-on. They definitely want to do as many as they can, Legendary, Paramount, and I do too, in success. I would love it. It was so fun. I don’t know how much I can tell you, but I’ll say this: at the end of the movie, there is a feeling of, like, you finally know who these characters are, and they settle, and you go, “Oh, this is the group? I fuck with this, and I want to see it again and again and again.”
So, I don’t want to tell you where they want it to go, because you have to know how this one ends first, but I will say that when this one ends, you really understand who the characters are, and it leaves you in a place, at least for me when I finished it, where I went, “Oh, that’s a group of people that I want to see again and again and again.” So hopefully fans feel the same way.
‘John Rambo’ Prequel Is Inspired by ‘First Blood’s Most Emotional Scene
Centineo discusses how he went from rom-coms to an iconic action franchise.
John Rambo: Where are you in the filming? What do you want to tell fans about the movie?
CENTINEO: We wrapped on Wednesday.
Oh, wow.
CENTINEO: So it’s done. We wanted to do justice to [Sylvester] Stallone’s and Rambo’s monologue in First Blood at the end of the movie, with him and Trautman at the police station, when he breaks down, and he explains he can’t keep a job, and the trauma of what happened before. At least for me, that was my North Star for this prequel, because our John Rambo is the prequel to that story. We want people to have a visceral understanding of what he went through that led him to become this revered character that we’ve all come to know.
So that’s what you can expect, and that’s what I think we’ve done. Now, obviously, we’ve wrapped it five days ago, so who knows? I don’t know what the end result is going to be, but it feels really, really good. Jalmari [Helander]’s a monster, our director.
Is it PG-13, is it R? Is there violence? What’s the tone?
CENTINEO: It’s not G. I’ll tell you that.
What was it about the script, though? It’s an iconic character. Was there any hesitation about taking the role? And what was it about the script that said, “I need to do this?”
CENTINEO: First, before I even read the script, I just heard about it, and I thought, “I need to do that.” I don’t really know how to explain it. I just went, “I need to be that guy. I need to try this.” I just had a feeling. Then Jalmari wouldn’t meet with me, for good reason. I think I was To All the Boys. I think my public-facing persona on my Instagram, it’s very easy to look at that and go, “Oh, this is the type of person that is,” and that’s super fair. He’ll tell you this, too. We love telling this story, Jalmari and I.
But he took a meeting eventually. We wore him down. In that meeting, I had read the script, and we got to talking, and I don’t know, I guess I lied, cheated, and stole my way into it, and burrowed my way into his head a little bit, and he started considering it. He was now open to consideration, and we kept talking. We just kept talking and talking. We would Zoom. I was filming Union County at the time. We just kept talking, and one day he called me, and he said, “You’re Rambo.” It was so surreal. I don’t know. It was a feeling.
“What ‘First Blood’ did to me when I was 10 years old basically changed my life.”
Noah Centineo Says ‘Gundam’ Will Be “Fan-First” Just Like ‘Street Fighter’
Production is now underway.
I’m almost out of time with you, but I have to ask you about Gundam because I’ve been waiting for this. I’ve been waiting for Robotech. I’ve been waiting for Voltron. I’ve been waiting for these properties. What do you want to tell people about Gundam? Where and when are you filming?
CENTINEO: Dude, I leave for Australia on Saturday. Saturday night.
Oh, wow. So it’s project to project?
CENTINEO: Correct. Sydney Sweeney is there now. I think the announcement for the start of production is coming out soon, but we’re starting production. You can put it out. I don’t think they’ll be too upset. So, I go on Saturday. It’s going to be huge. Jim Mickle, our director, he’s got all heart. He’s so sensitive, all heart, and he builds these wonderful massive worlds. I’ve seen some of the previs, and I’ve seen what he’s trying to do and looking to do, and it’s very exciting.
Sydney’s so sweet, man. She’s giving everything she’s got to this. I’m really excited to get out there and do this with her. I think it’s going to be lovely. We have such a phenomenal ensemble around this, as well. Yeah, man, I think people are going to like it.
The thing about Gundam is that it means so much to so many people. Maybe not in America, but in Asia. In Japan, it’s massive.
CENTINEO: Yes.
Just massive. Huge. So, how familiar were you with it, and how do you think the movie will honor the fans of the material based on the script and what you know?
CENTINEO: In the same way that we were fan-first on Street Fighter, we’re fan-first on Gundam. Legendary’s doing both of those, so for them it’s very important. That’s definitely the priority for them, so fans can expect the same level of meticulous attention to detail when it comes to respecting the property and the IP that we’ve all come to know and love.
I knew the show. I would watch it back when I was a kid, but other than seeing it on Cartoon Network or Tsunami or something like that, that was pretty much the extent of my knowledge of it. But now, after getting on board and watching more of it, it’s great, dude. It’s going to be great.
Street Fighter opens in theaters on October 16.

As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this month, footage went viral that showed Jayda Cheaves and Dess Dior involved in a physical altercation at a club. In the initial angle of the clip, Dior was seen throwing punches in one area while Cheaves was in another area, apparently held in a headlock by multiple people.
Then, a few days later, another angle of the altercation surfaced, per The Shade Room. This angle showed Cheaves confronting a blonde-haired woman moments before things popped off. Furthermore, it led social media users to speculate that the woman was Emily Huff, her former friend. Additionally, Huff appeared to confirm she was the woman in the video.

Grand Theft Auto Creator Unveils New Netflix Series
A new universe of comedy is in the works from a surprising source: one of the creators of the blockbuster video game series Grand Theft Auto. Dan Houser, with writing partner Lazlow Jones, will be launching the Absurdaverse, an interlinked universe of animated satire. A solid lineup of comedic talent will lend their voices to the project. The Absurdaverse, so far, will be composed of a series of animated shorts, all taking place in the same fictional universe, an ongoing animated series, and an open-world video game akin to the Grand Theft Auto series; the latter two are in development.
The new project will feature the voices of Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live), Dan Soder (Billions), Yamaneika Saunders (Life and Beth), Steph Tolev (Shifting Gears), and up-and-coming stand-up comedians Ari Matti and Samantha Alton. The array of characters will include a “Chief People Officer” who thinks he’s a DJ (Soder), a conspiracy-minded podcaster (Dratch), and much, much more. You’ll be able to get your first glimpse of the Absurdaverse when the shorts make their debut at the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival on May 7; the event will also feature live stand-up by Patton Oswalt and several Absurdaverse cast members, including Soder, Matti, Saunders, Tolev, and host Annie Lederman.
Who Is Dan Houser?
A British video game writer and producer, Dan Houser founded Rockstar Games with his brother, Sam Houser. He made his game-producing and writing debut with Grand Theft Auto: London 1969, an expansion pack to the first Grand Theft Auto game, and went on to become a driving creative force behind the subsequent GTA games. He also wrote and produced their Western-themed game Red Dead Redemption and its sequel, the private school satire Bully, and the noir-themed Max Payne 3. Although he and his brother eschewed the spotlight, they were depicted in The Gamechangers, a BBC2 docudrama; Dan was portrayed by Ian Attard (Bridgerton), and Sam was portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe. They were also both named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in 2009. He departed Rockstar in 2020.
The Absurdaverse animated shorts are produced by Dave Newberg (#1 Happy Family USA), with character designs by Kendra Melton (The Venture Bros). They are animated by Cutting Class Media.
The Absurdaverse animated shorts will premiere at the Netflix Is a Joke festival on May 7, 2026; the accompanying animated series and video game are in development. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

Rebel Wilson ‘Used PR Team’ To Smear Co-Star
Rebel Wilson’s legal showdown with Charlotte MacInnes is off to a fiery start.
The case is unfolding at the Federal Court in Sydney, and centers on claims Wilson made about her “The Deb” co-star, including allegations that producer Amanda Ghost had sexually harassed MacInnes.
Front and center in the opening arguments was the accusation that Wilson also worked to push her claims into the public domain. MacInnes’ legal team alleged the actress used PR channels to circulate and reinforce damaging narratives.
Rebel Wilson Faces PR Smear Claim In Court

Rebel Wilson was poised to make her directorial debut with the film “The Deb.” However, the moment has been overshadowed by mounting legal trouble.
The “Pitch Perfect” star appeared in court on Monday, April 20, as proceedings officially began in the defamation lawsuit filed by her co-star. Wilson was originally labeled a “bully” by the opposing side. However, MacInnes’ lawyers have followed up with the even more explosive claim that she allegedly engaged a crisis PR effort to push damaging narratives beyond the set.
Wilson is being accused of hiring publicist Melissa Nathan of The Agency Group to orchestrate a smear campaign targeting producer Ghost, as Deadline reported.
Wilson Accused Co-Star Of Backtracking On Harassment Claim

Wilson’s issues with MacInnes date back to when the younger actress raised concerns about an interaction she had with producer Ghost.
The incident in question allegedly took place in 2023 following an outing at Bondi Beach, where MacInnes and Ghost were said to have shared a bath in their swimsuits.
Wilson later claimed on Instagram that MacInnes initially expressed discomfort over the situation, but then reversed her stance. The “Pitch Perfect” star went further, suggesting her co-star had changed her account after receiving professional opportunities from the producer.
“The fact that this girl has been employed now by this ‘producer’ in the lead role of a production called GATSBY (ART Boston) and given a record label, should be all the proof you need as to why she has now changed her story,” Wilson wrote in a 2024 post.
Charlotte MacInnes Said Rebel Wilson’s Claims ‘Damaged’ Her Reputation

According to a report on ABC News Australia, MacInnes pushed back hard against Wilson’s version of events in court, with her legal team arguing that the actress’s claims have caused serious reputational harm.
Representing MacInnes, Sue Chrysanthou SC disputed Wilson’s account, telling the court that the younger actress only went home with Ghost after suffering a medical episode while swimming and needing assistance to run a hot bath.
Chrysanthou argued that Wilson’s public allegations painted a deeply damaging narrative, one that went far beyond a private disagreement and into reputational territory that could impact MacInnes’ career.
She further alleged that the “Pitch Perfect” star attempted to reinforce that narrative by contacting third parties to publish anonymous claims that reflected negatively on her client.
Rebel Wilson’s Lawyer Refuted Charlotte MacInnes’ Defamation Claims

Wilson’s legal team has hit back at MacInnes’ allegations, arguing that the actress’s concerns about the situation were still valid regardless of how events unfolded.
Wilson’s attorney, David Sibtain SC, told the court that even if Ghost had experienced a medical episode, it would not negate the possibility that MacInnes felt uncomfortable in the moment.
He went on to frame the case around Wilson’s understanding of events rather than the specifics of what actually occurred inside the Bondi apartment, emphasizing that the key question is whether she believed misconduct had taken place and acted accordingly.
According to Sibtain, the focus should not be on proving sexual misconduct, but on whether Wilson was acting on information she had been given when she raised concerns about the producer.
The Lawyer Said Her Accuser Had ‘Incentives’ To Change Story

Wilson’s defense team also doubled down on the claim that MacInnes later shifted her account of the alleged incident, arguing there were clear motivations behind that change.
In court, Sibtain pointed to the influence and industry standing, suggesting that MacInnes may have felt pressure to revise her position.
“It’s Ms. Wilson’s position that she changed her story because Ms. Ghost was a powerful person who expressed a very early interest professionally in Ms. MacInnes,” he said. “She had the power to make her dreams come true.”
Sibtain further pushed back against claims that Wilson’s statements caused lasting harm, rejecting the idea that MacInnes’ career had been derailed.

Alan Osmond’s Son David Pays Tribute, Talks About Having MS
Alan Osmond’s son, American Idol alum David Osmond, is remembering his late father and reflecting on their shared multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
“Last night, my dad passed away. To be honest… I’m still trying to process it,” David, 46, shared via Instagram on Tuesday, April 21, alongside multiple photos of him and Alan, who died on Monday, April 20, at age 76.
“It’s hard to put into words what a life like his really means. He wasn’t just my father. He was an immense example of strength, of kindness, of how to treat people, and how to show up when it matters most,” David, who competed on season 8 of American Idol, added.
Alan was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987 and lived with his symptoms for nearly four decades. David, one of the singer’s eight children with wife Suzanne Pinegar, was diagnosed with the same disease in 2005.
“He was my buddy, and I shared so much in common with him. The love of music, yes, but strangely, we even shared the same diagnosis of MS,” David wrote. “We knew each other’s frustrations in that without even saying a word. Just a long hug, and we understood each other in a rare and beautifully unique way. Having a dad who led by example through the battle with resilience and determination, never EVER giving up, and encouraging me to do the same, was such a gift.”
“He’s larger than life in my heart and mind. His creativity, his faith, his ability to lead and inspire. There are so many things I’ll miss. The conversations, the laughter, the simple moments that didn’t feel big at the time but now mean everything,” David continued. “What I’m realizing is that the greatest gift he gave me wasn’t just in what he said or did, but in who he was. I feel him in every step that I take. And that’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.”
“My heart is broken, but it’s also full of immense gratitude. Grief for the tragic loss of his physical presence, but joy in the knowledge that he is now free,” he concluded. “I love you, Daddy-O! Thank you for everything.”
Alan was the eldest member of the pop group The Osmonds, which also featured his brothers Wayne, who died in January 2025 at age 73, Merrill, 72, Jay, 71, Donny, 68, and Jimmy, 63. His sister, Marie Osmond, also found fame as a singer and actress.
“This is one of the earliest pictures I have of my brother Alan and me. Even back then, you can see that he had his arm around me, watching over me,” Donny wrote in an Instagram tribute to his older brother on Tuesday. “That’s who he was. My protector. My guide. The one who quietly carried so much responsibility so the rest of us could shine.”
Marie shared in her own post, “As his only sister, I know I had a different relationship with him than he had with his brothers, and I must say I loved that! He was always very protective of me (not so sure I love that one) but he was always there if I needed him!”

The Lord of the Rings Officially Returns This Year
It’s a great time to be a fan of The Lord of the Rings franchise, with multiple new projects in development that are moving fast. After years of updates, the full cast for the next Lord of the Rings movie, titled The Hunt for Gollum, was finally released last week. This was a double-edged sword, though. While it was exciting to see who was going to usher in the next journey to Middle-earth on the big screen, fans were devastated to learn that Aragorn had been recast with Jamie Dornan, confirming that the beloved Viggo Mortensen would not star in the film. It’s unclear why at this time, but that information will certainly come out before the film makes its worldwide premiere next year on December 17.
It’s also been revealed that Tolkien head Stephen Colbert is writing the script for a new Lord of the Rings movie, but the project is still in the early stages of development. It has been confirmed, however, that it will be set after the passing of Frodo Baggins (played by Elijah Wood) and follow Sam, Merry, and Pippin as they set out on a new adventure. In addition to these new Lord of the Rings movies, there’s also the Lord of the Rings TV series at Prime Video, The Rings of Power, which has already released two full seasons. In other events, news broke this morning that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will premiere before the end of this year, despite speculation that the show would not return until 2027. Prime Video has yet to assign the film an official release date, and the studio has also not released a trailer yet.
What Is ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ About?
The Rings of Power is an epic drama set thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies, following an ensemble of characters both familiar and new as they confront the long-featured re-emergence of the evil Sauron to Middle-earth. The series was written and created for TV by Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, and it stars Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Charles Edwards as Lord Celebrimbor, Ismael Cruz Cordova as Arondir, and Robert Aramayo as Elrond.

‘Andor’ Star Tries to Rescue FIFA World Cup in Jaw-Dropping True Story First Netflix Trailer
Not every sports movie needs to be about what happens on the field, and México 86 looks like it knows that from the jump. Netflix’s new film is taking one of the biggest football events in history and pulling the camera back to the frantic, political, behind-the-scenes scramble that made it happen at all. That already gives it a fresh angle, but throwing Diego Luna into the middle of the chaos makes it even easier to clock why this one stands out. The first trailer leans into audacity, pressure, and the kind of national-level bluffing that sounds almost too wild to be real. Except, of course, it is.
Netflix has released the first trailer for México 86, a 2026 film centered on the incredible true story behind Mexico landing the 1986 World Cup. The official setup follows a cunning Mexican bureaucrat who, after a last-minute hosting opportunity appears, cons his way through FIFA in an attempt to beat the United States and bring the tournament to Mexico for a historic second time. Netflix’s own description frames it as an against-all-odds feat driven by “audacity, madness, and pure Mexican ingenuity,” while early materials pitch the film as a mix of politics, satire, and sports-world chaos.

What Happened in Mexico 86?
Well, on the pitch, it was one of the most iconic World Cups ever held. Argentina won the trophy following one of the most controversial and unforgettable tournaments in football history, with Diego Maradona delivering both the infamous “Hand of God” goal and the stunning solo run later dubbed the “Goal of the Century” against England. Argentina eventually beat West Germany 3-2 in the final, sealing Maradona’s reputation as one of the greatest players to ever play the game, and securing him iconic status in his home country matched these days only by Lionel Messi.
México 86 will premiere on Netflix on June 5, 2026. Check out the trailer above.
