H&M Studio and Premium Selection: Are they worth the extra cost?
H&M search results now include a smattering of higher-priced garments amid the usual affordable options. Dive into the detail on those pricier pieces and you’ll see cleaner cuts and nicer fabrics. Here’s what’s happening: H&M is building out premium collections that make use of wool, silk, linen, and leather as well as more refined silhouettes.
The price difference between the cheaper basics and the premium collections can be significant. As an example, you can buy a poplin button shirt for $20 or $99. Are those premium pieces worth that higher price tag? It depends, on what you’re buying and how often you’ll wear it.

What H&M premium actually means
H&M’s premium collections are a tier of products across categories that use higher-quality fabrics, more structured tailoring, and cleaner, more minimal design. You’ll see premium offerings for wool-blend coats, linen blazers, and tailored trousers, where the fabric and construction do most of the work. These items tend to look more polished and feel more substantial than standard H&M basics.
Read next: Best H&M pieces that are actually worth the money
The upgraded pieces are labeled as H&M Premium Selection or H&M Studio. Premium Selection includes primarily elevated classics, like wool coats and silk blouses. H&M Studio leans more into runway styles and statement pieces.
Note that these collections are not related to H&M designer collaborations, which team this fast-fashion house with high-end labels.
How premium pieces differ from regular H&M
See three comparisons between standard and premium H&M pieces.
Poplin shirt, premium vs. standard
Linen dress pants, premium vs. standard
Blazer, premium vs. standard
Fabric quality
Premium pieces are more likely to use materials like wool blends, linen blends, and better viscose. That means they drape better, feel more comfortable, and tend to look more classic and enduring vs. trendy and short-lived.
If you’re shopping in a store, you’ll see the difference straight away. Better fabrics feel heavier and smoother.
Construction that holds its shape
Premium pieces are usually better lined, more structured, and less flimsy overall. The jackets, coats, and trousers tend to maintain their shape longer and look more intentional when worn.
Clean, minimal designs
Premium items often lean less trendy and more minimal, which makes them easier to style across multiple outfits. This contributes to a reasonable cost per wear, despite the higher price tag.
What’s worth buying from H&M premium
Premium coats and outerwear, blazers, knitwear, and blouses are worth a look.
Coats and outerwear
This is one of H&M’s strongest categories. Wool-blend coats, trench coats, and structured jackets often have a midrange label vibe. Since outerwear gets heavy use, it’s one of the safest places to spend more.
Blazers and tailored pieces
Premium blazers are worth trying. The improved structure and fabric make a noticeable difference, especially if you want a more polished look.
Knitwear
Look for sweaters made with cotton or wool blends. These tend to be more resilient and more comfortable than cheaper acrylic-heavy knits.
Elevated basics and blouses
Simple, well-cut pieces tend to perform best. Sharp, elevated basics are easy to wear across multiple outfits without feeling repetitive.
When to skip premium
You may want to pass on the higher-priced pieces if the fabric is still mostly synthetic, the piece is very trend-driven, or it doesn’t feel noticeably better than the cheaper version.
Also, this standard budget shopping rule still applies: If you can’t style the item at least three ways with pieces what you already own, it’s not a smart buy.

How to shop H&M premium
- Check the fabric first. Look for wool, cotton, linen, or better blends.
- Feel the weight. Heavier fabrics usually mean better structure.
- Inspect the details. Look at finishing details like lining and seams.
- Define its place in your rotation. Aim for pieces you can wear multiple ways, without buying anything else.
- Watch for sales. Premium pieces go on sale, too.
The Budget Fashionista takeaway
H&M’s premium collections can absolutely be worth it, especially for coats, blazers, and elevated basics — if your focus is on fit and versatility. In other words, if a piece looks better, feels better, and fits into your existing wardrobe, it’s likely worth the upgrade. If you can’t tick all those boxes, you’re better off saving your money for something you’ll actually wear.

How to Carry Your ID Badge Without Ruining Your Outfit
This post may contain affiliate links and Corporette® may earn commissions for purchases made through links in this post. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Security badges are now part of office life for everyone from BigLaw associates to biotech researchers — but most badge solutions are weirdly designed for cargo pants and polos, not silk blouses and midi dresses. We haven’t discussed ID badge solutions in a while, so let’s hear it: how do you wear your work badge when your outfit doesn’t have pockets? Do you have a favorite lanyard, badge reel, magnet, or other workaround?
Chic Ways to Carry Your ID Badge (Especially if You Don’t Have Pockets)
Lanyards

No, these aren’t ideal — but they are practical. Polished options include leather holders from Leatherology, Coach, Maison de Sabre, Prada, Louis Vuitton, or Hermès. You can also find a lot of brightly colored ribbons and more on Etsy, as well as ones that look like gold necklaces. The pictured lanyard is $105 at Nordstrom; you can also find it at MaisondeSabre.com.
Bracelets For Your Access Badge

Bracelet-style badge holders can be handy if you want to stay hands-free without wearing a lanyard around your neck. The pictured coiled bracelet is a bestseller at Amazon (under $5), although it probably works best for lighter badges or keycards.
Carry a Leather Padfolio With You

Longtime readers know the office padfolio has always been one of my must-haves for the office — it’s basically a notebook that zips closed… so you can keep a variety of things in it, including your ID badge. (I’ve always kept lip gloss, Post-it notes, tape flags, and more so they’re accessible during meetings… it’s also a discreet way to carry feminine products if you’re away from your office for long periods.)
Smythson’s beautiful padfolio is pictured above, but you can also find them at discount spots like Amazon, Target, or Walmart. If you want something monogrammed, in addition to Smythson check out Etsy, Leatherology, Levenger.
Wear a third piece with a pocket just for this purpose

A blazer or sweater jacket can solve a surprising number of workwear problems — including where to stash your badge. Patch pockets are usually functional, and many blazers also have hidden pockets that simply need to be opened by snipping the temporary stitching. (The pictured blazer with patch pockets is $399-$599 at MM.LaFleur.)
Magnetic Badge Holders
This is my preferred choice if it’s just a nametag at a conference or whatnot. You can find magnetic holders that attach directly to clothing, as well as magnetic sleeves designed to keep a badge secure inside a pocket or tote. This holder from Amazon was recommended on Reddit as being a good option; if you want something even simpler you can get clear badge sleeves with magnets or even just the magnets.
Retractable Badge Reels.
These can be great if you’re carrying a bag or have someplace else to clip the badge reel, and they’re certainly affordable — you can buy some on Amazon for less than $5.
Readers, over to you — how do you wear ID badges with dresses or outfits that don’t have pockets? Do you have any favorite lanyards? What other solutions have you found?

All About Scarf Dressing: Dresses, Tops, and More
Alemais Dress, Margaux Sandals, Loro Piana Bag (coming soon, similar here)
A standout this season is the rise of scarf driven pieces, defined by their drape, fluidity, and softly asymmetric lines. Whether tied into halter tops or wrapped into skirts, the silhouette skims the body before falling into an angled, off balance hem.
What sets it apart is how it’s anchored—knotted at the neckline or wrapped at the waist, then released into an open drape. That contrast gives the silhouette its shape, with the fabric creating movement and form in place of traditional structure.

Coffee Break: Private Eye Tote

Looking to splurge on a bag? This best-selling tote from Métier would be one of my top choices.
The suede version is a best-seller at NET-A-PORTER, and I can see why — it looks chic and polished, yet has a bunch of interior pockets as well as a “pull-out pouch that can be converted into a cross-body bag.”
It will definitely fit a tablet, but is a bit on the small side for laptops — 10.2″ tall by 14.2″ wide, with a depth of 7.9″ — but there is also a larger version that clocks in around 11.4″ tall x 16.5″ wide by 9″ deep.
The pictured bag is $4,950 at NET-A-PORTER, where they have a number of iterations of the bag — suede! calf! quilted! medium! large! — as well as a lot of colors; you can also find a lot of options for the bag at Métier.com.

Thursday’s Workwear Report: Organic Cotton Stretch-Twill Wide-Leg Pant
This post may contain affiliate links and Corporette® may earn commissions for purchases made through links in this post. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
I’ve had great luck with this brand for casual tees and dresses, so I’m very interested in these wide-leg twill pants from Pact. They come in two different inseams, which is great because fit is everything with pants like this.
I would wear this “oak” color with a breezy white button-up for a comfy casual Friday look.
The pants are $88 at Nordstrom and come in sizes XS-XXL with 28-inch and 30-inch inseams.
