Bush’s fraudulent activity was laid out to the court, detailing how he gave 46 families the wrong ashes and 11 were given nothing at all.

Prosecutor Chris Paxton KC said the total monetary value of the fraud was £86,868 and that Bush had conned 226 people who paid him for funeral plans, pocketing more than £550,000 over an 11-year period.

Among the victims was Shelley Chearman, who lost her husband Alan.

She told Bush: “You fooled a lot of people in Hull with your mild manner, when in fact you are a cruel conman. You use people’s grief to fund your lifestyle.”

Outlining the case on Monday, Paxton told the court bodies had been discovered “on the racks” of a cold storage area and one was found on a stretcher on the floor.

The vast majority were “uncovered and in varying states of decomposition” and the funeral home was “dirty and unkempt”.

The 48-year-old’s crimes were discovered by chance while he was on holiday, after two funeral directors tipped off police.

Bush, of Otley, West Yorkshire, was arrested when he landed at Heathrow Airport days later and told police he had debts of about £90,000, Paxton said.

A pair of Airbnb hosts who record themselves inspecting their accommodation after guests depart have gone viral for their strict house rules.

Cassie and Jon, a couple in their early twenties, document themselves doing a post-checkout clean of their property in Glennville, Georgia, remarking on everything from how clean the guests have left the toilet to what snacks have been eaten and whether the furniture is out of place.

TikTok viewers have roasted the couple for their extreme attention to detail, since they have strict house rules and sometimes complain about what state the guests leave the property in after checkout.

One video shows the couple criticizing their checked-out guests for leaving the TV remote out of place, for “disrespecting the house rules” by leaving a box of leftovers in the fridge and for moving the ottoman a few inches closer to the couch.

“It is so simple to put your trash in the trash can,” Cassie said in one video, remarking on pizza boxes left on the counter. “The pillows and the blankets are all out of place,” Jon said in another clip.

“Y’all need to lighten up,” one person commented. “Why do I feel like you’d be mad if they used the blankets?” said another.

“Can [guests] sit on the toilet when they need it?” joked a third. “They USED the SPACE?!”

“I was defending y’all bc I thought it was a skit. Now I have to go apologize to people,” quipped another. “Honestly this is so obnoxious.”

Since Cassie and Jon’s videos have gone viral, other content creators have parodied the couple, skewering their strict house rules and their reactions when the accommodation has been lived in.

The content creator @daadisnacks criticized the couple for complaining about small details when they charge a $50 cleaning fee per stay. “Influencers run an Airbnb with more rules than a maximum security prison,” he captioned the post.

“Oh my god, you guys, the guests who paid $350 to use our home, used our home, and I’m literally shaking,” he said in the skit.

@ambercatherphoto also recreated the videos, telling the camera:

“Hey Y’all, we’re gonna go in and check out and see how bad these renters messed up the Airbnb…

“We already know the renters had a dog or some kids because this stick was out of place in the yard… can’t imagine what they’ve done inside.”

Later in the video, the content creator, in character as Jon, comments on how the ottoman has been moved a few inches.

“They moved the furniture! That’s house rule number 71!” they quipped to the camera. “Look at all the laundry in the laundry basket… they were here for two weeks.. How many showers did they need?”

The Independent has reached out to Airbnb and Cassie and Jon for comment.

As reported by the Gazette & Herald, multiple vehicles from North Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service attended the scene in Commercial Street, Norton.

The British Red Cross has urged people to avoid drinking caffeinated drinks and alcohol when it is hot out.

You might want to think twice about grabbing an iced latte or cocktail while it is so hot out.

It said: “Alcohol often goes hand in hand with sunny weather but, it is advised to limit consumption especially in the evening but causes poorer quality of sleep.

“Caffeinated drinks are diuretics and may encourage your body to lose fluids, risking dehydration as well as increase your body temperatures.”

The British Red Cross added that sticking to a normal routine can also help you throughout the heatwave.

While you might feel more tired during the summer, as your body is using more energy to regulate your internal temperature, you should avoid taking naps to stop disrupting your normal sleep patterns.

It said: “Hot weather can often mean your everyday routine goes out the window but eating and going to bed later may affect the quality of sleep.

“Try to stick to your usual eating and bed times and keep the same night-time routine.”

How to sleep throughout the summer

You can also try to make it easier to sleep by keeping the blinds or curtains in your bedroom closed during the day.

During the evening, you can open the windows to let in a breeze.

You can use thin cotton sheets on your bed and wear loose-fitting cotton or linen pyjamas to cool you down.

You might want to keep some bedding close by, as your body temperature naturally falls during the night and you can often wake up feeling cold.

The ambulance was called to the incident this morning

A person has been taken to hospital after the air ambulance was sent to an incident in Dungiven this morning.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service was called to the Hass Road area of the Co Derry town at around 9.07am on Tuesday, July 28, following reports of an injury at a premises.

The air ambulance and an ambulance were sent to the scene where paramedics carried out treatment on the injured person.

They were later taken to Altnagelvin Hospital by ambulance.

A NIAS spokesperson said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 09:07 on Tuesday, 28th July, following reports of an incident on the Hass Road area, Dungiven.

“NIAS tasked 1 Emergency Ambulance and the Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board to the incident.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was brought to Altnagelvin Hospital by Ambulance.”

The sight of our once heroic Olympian Adam Ramsay-Peaty blubbing poolside after humiliatingly collecting a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games was a pitiful, unedifying sight.

He didn’t help his cause by then blaming his failure on the fallout with his own family over a protracted row last November over the arrangements for his wedding to Gordon Ramsay‘s daughter Holly, 26.

This display of self-indulgence looked all the more inappropriate given that two other British competitors had had to overcome far more serious obstacles to represent their country at the games.

Take the case of Sean McCann, 21. He is the little brother of Madeleine McCann, the girl who went missing at the age of three when she was on holiday with her parents and younger siblings in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in 2007.

Kate and Gerry McCann, along with Sean’s twin sister Amelie, set aside the family tragedy to cheer on their son as he competed in the 400m freestyle event, Kate was wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with the words, ‘Yes sir, I can boogie’, and Sean showed he could, too, finishing fourth in his heat, a performance good enough to ensure he made the final.

Meanwhile, Archie Goodburn, 25, the Scottish 50m breaststroke record holder, also made the final of his event despite having been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour two years ago.

Goodburn, who recently graduated from Edinburgh University with a first in chemical engineering, fought hard to be given access to a new course of treatment that has slowed the growth of his tumours and ultimately finished joint seventh – or ‘joint last’, as he so modestly put it.

Given his health issues, it represented a performance of herculean proportions.

For Adam Ramsay-Peaty to play the tearful victim in such a context is nothing short of pitiful – not to say a PR disaster for him.

The McCanns would have given anything to witness their son’s shining achievement with their whole family together – including Madeleine, who would now be 23 if she had not been abducted, never to be seen again.

In contrast to their poignant display of celebration, Ramsay-Peaty emerged from the pool sobbing and then proceeded to hug his pregnant wife before bending down to kiss her baby bump.

Was it a genuine act of affection or just a photo op to draw attention away from an abysmal race time that was three seconds – an eternity in the realms of top-level swimming – off his world record? 

At a press conference later, Ramsay-Peaty – apparently full of self-pity – effectively blamed his poor form on his own family, saying: ‘It’s hard because I know how hard I’ve worked. I know the s*** I’ve been through, which is no fault of my own. It does take a toll.’

Shockingly, this was the first time his mum and dad had not watched him compete from poolside at a major competition, with insiders saying Adam had even gone so far as to tell them to stay away.

Instead, Caroline and Mark Peaty watched it on TV in their modest Uttoxeter council house, 260 miles away as the crow flies but light years away when compared with their son’s new world of Ramsay family mansions.

It was a shockingly cold-blooded rejection of his own flesh and blood: the parents who, recognising his swimming genius, devoted their lives to giving their son the chances in life they – as a working class family – had never had.

His mum used to get up at 4am every morning to drive him 40-minutes to the swimming club for training. That she should be forced to watch him race on the telly beggars belief.

And that is not the worst of it. There are now even claims that Caroline and Mark – who found out that their son’s wife was pregnant by text – are now so cut adrift they have no expectations of getting to know – or even see – his newborn child, their grandchild.

His mother has even been stopped from seeing Adam’s first child, George, five, by a former relationship. Bear in mind that this is a child his mum used to babysit.

A Peaty relative who spoke to the Daily Mail on condition of anonymity said: ‘The hurt you feel over a medal does not compare to the hurt you have caused your mother. Just take accountability for your own actions for once, Adam, instead of blaming us.

‘The hurt you inflicted on her when you stopped her from seeing her grandson (George) out of spite, who she loves with every fibre of her being, and stopped from watching you marry.

‘You made comments to friends that we would try and disrupt your Games. We haven’t been there. To blame us for your failure is not right Adam. Don’t blame your family for your bronze. You need to look closer to home and in the mirror.’

Following his disappointing performance in his heat, Ramsay-Peaty insisted that he had ‘a battle plan’ ahead of yesterday’s 50m breaststroke final.

‘In sport it’s not really about when you get beat down, it’s about how long you actually take to put it into perspective and turn it around,’ he added on Sunday. ‘We’re on a great trajectory for tomorrow.’

This turned out to be a little over-optimistic. Not only did Adam miss out on gold but had to settle for bronze rather than silver.

His long-suffering mother Caroline broke her silence after he blamed his bitter family feud on failing to win gold at the Commonwealth Games.

In a rare social media post, Caroline wrote that she and Adam’s dad Mark will always ‘continue to support Adam from afar’. Adding, ‘He’s our son whom we love.’

But the question on virtually everyone else’s lips is: Has time finally caught up with a man who may have broken 14 world records but is now aged 31?

After all, the silver medal winner who beat him into third place was Filip Nowacki, an 18-year-old British schoolboy still waiting for his A-level results.
