Trump gives daughter-in-law Lara tour of White House ballroom site: ‘We’re gonna have the inauguration here’

President Donald Trump sat down for a frictionless interview with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, where he also gave her a tour of the White House ballroom building site.

During the tour, Trump revealed that he plans to hold the next presidential inauguration in his new ballroom.

“It’s a great facility, and we’re going to have the inauguration here,” Trump announced to his daughter-in-law on Fox News. “It’s going to hold…I had mine in the Capitol. In the Capitol, I had 902 people, and it was still beautiful, but it was 902 people, and it’s not safe like this.”

He added that future presidents will be using his ballroom for “200 years,” and noted that he won’t get much use out of it at all.

“I’ll have it for about six months. In other words, when it’s finished … I’ll only have the use of it for six months,” Trump said in the interview that was taped earlier this week.

The president’s interview aired just hours after Trump spent most of the day ranting about a federal judge who ruled he had to take his name off the Kennedy Center and suspend his renovation plans.

The family chat began with Trump delivering his usual talking points against Democrats and lauding himself for his various military actions in Iran.

Before the tour began, Lara Trump accused the media of “melting down” over Trump’s project, which saw the partial demolition and irreversible alteration to one of the most important historical sites in the nation, all without the approval of Congress or any input from the public.

“Unsurprisingly … left-wing pundits are melting down over the ballroom project. So, what’s all the fuss about?” Lara Trump said.

During their tour, Trump insisted that the ballroom was a “gift to America.”

“From me, and from Apple, and from lots of great people and companies,” Trump said, before citing its $400 million price tag, which he says has been fully raised by private donors.

Trump bragged on his new ballroom, saying it would be both the “greatest” facility of its kind and that it will be the “most secure facility ever built.” He said that both the military and the Secret Service are involved in the project.

Lara Trump was also given a look at construction for the UFC fight on the South Lawn for the president’s 80th birthday.

Sailboat becomes focus of search for woman who disappeared in the Bahamas while on vacation with her husband

Sailboat becomes focus of search for woman who disappeared in the Bahamas while on vacation with her husband

The U.S. Coast Guard will search for evidence related to Lynette Hooker’s disappearance on the sailboat she shared with her husband, according to a new report.

Lynette Hooker vanished last month while she and her husband, Brian Hooker, were vacationing on their sailboat in the Bahamas.

The American woman vanished while the couple was riding back to their sailboat in a dinghy in the Sea of Abaco.

The U.S. Coast Guard seized the couple’s boat, named “Soulmate,” after it departed from the Bahamas. It was docked in Fort Pierce, Florida, before being moved to Fort Lauderdale, and will be searched for any clues concerning Lynette Hooker’s disappearance.

“Any sort of digital devices that you can take, any computer systems that you can extract, anything of that sort, will be taken in,” Nicole Parker, a former FBI special agent and Fox News contributor, told the network.

Bahamian officials also reportedly approved the U.S. to send a dive team to investigate the waters where Lynette Hooker vanished, according to Fox News Digital.

The team is being sent to search for evidence and, to retrieve Lynette Hooker’s body, if possible.

The new search area was selected based on GPS data recovered from the boat. According to investigators, the GPS data contradicts the location Brian Hooker provided, which pointed them to a different part of the Sea of Abaco.

He told investigators that his wife fell out of their dinghy during their trip back to their sailboat. Brian Hooker said had the key to the engine on her when she fell out, forcing him to paddle the vessel to shore before he could report her missing.

Brian Hooker, who denies any wrongdoing, has been released from Bahamian custody since the incident occurred. He was detained on April 8 during the initial investigation and was released five days later.

“I’ve never harmed Lynette, and I would never harm Lynette, and I want to find Lynette,” he told NBC News in April.

Karli Aylesworth, Lynette’s daughter, told NBC News that her mother and Hooker had a “history of not getting along, especially when they drink.”

Lynette Hooker was arrested on assault and batter/simple assault charges in 2015. A police report stemming from that incident showed that both she and her husband had accused each other of assault.

A warrant for her arrest was ultimately denied for “insufficient evidence as to who started the assault.”

Brian Hooker has not been charged with any crimes nor has he been accused of wrongdoing.

The Independent has requested comment from his attorney.

Terrel Butler, Hooker’s attorney, previously told The Independent that he “categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing” and that he has been cooperating with authorities.

“His primary concern and source of intense frustration is his inability to continue the search for his wife of 25 years,” Butler said. “The trauma of her disappearance, coupled with his current detention as a suspect, has left him in an extremely fragile state.”

Before the tragedy, the couple ran a YouTube travel called “The Sailing Hookers” in which they documented their travel experiences.

Champions League final: Arsenal ‘pain’ will fuel fire after heartbreak

Published

Declan Rice

Arsenal will celebrate their Premier League title win on Sunday in front of their supporters in north London.

“If you’d offered them at the start of the season – that they would win the Premier League title and lose the Champions League final by a penalty kick, then it is not a bad season, it is a great season and I mean a really great season,” Pat Nevin told BBC Sport.

“Let’s remember they have lost tonight but they are the Premier League winners,” Onouha added.

“They have got their parade to look forward to and I don’t think there will be any fewer people turning up tomorrow just because they have lost the Champions League final.

“I think the club is in a great position, the manager has been there for many years now and he has a bunch of players who are still very very hungry, even though they have been successful.”

The review of the Arsenal squad will come in the summer but this team has progressed so much from the one that Arteta took over in 2019.

Bukayo Saka is the last player left from that squad and Arteta said it has been a “joy” to share this season with his players and staff.

Arsenal have looked at how they could generate money in the coming transfer window by potential player sales.

There is also a group of exciting youngsters, including 19-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly – who started in Budapest – Ethan Nwaneri, 19, and 16-year-olds Max Dowman and Marli Salmon who could emerge as first-team regulars in the coming seasons.

“It is cruel for Arsenal fans, but it is inevitable that this club win the Champions League,” European football expert Julien Laurens said on 5 Live.

“Mikel Arteta will see the positives because that is the kind of guy he is. Arsenal are getting closer and closer.”

And for Arteta, despite the pain, says he is ready to celebrate what has been a big step for his Arsenal side.

“I already know how they [the fans] feel about the team. I want to thank them for everything they’ve done for us throughout the season.”

“Difficult moments like this, they’ve been with us. It’s been a joy to see the reaction they’ve had when we’ve been able to win a league after 22 years.

“It hurts a lot for them not to win it today because I can’t even imagine what would have happened.

“We all had a huge desire to win it and tomorrow we’ll have a great day, I’m sure.”

UK clothing brand loved by celebs plunges into liquidation

Daily Mirror

The streetwear brand founded over 21 years ago has plunged into administration after making millions in profit during the pandemic and being worn by celebrities

A UK fashion brand, worn by the likes of Rihanna, has collapsed into administration after generating millions in profit in recent years.

Trapstar, founded in 2005, was loved by many celebs, with Stormzy also being seen in some of the brand’s clothing.

Now, administrators have been appointed as the business was unable to find financial backing.

Administrators from Interpath Advisory were appointed on Friday after a two-month long effort to gain financial support.

The streetwear brand grew in popularity amid the Covid pandemic, generating a whopping £40m in 2022 according to reports.

A spokesperson for the brand told the Sun : “Management have advised that recent revenue decline has primarily been driven by working capital constraints impacting inventory availability, rather than any underlying demand or brand performance.”

According to reports there is interest from potential buyers as the brand seeks to help combat challenges.

As the business goes through the insolvency process it is thought that Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group may place a possible bid.

The retailer released limited editions drops and was stocked in several department stores when operational, including Selfridges on Oxford Street.

The brand has 57 employees according to its latest accounts.

Despite revenue decreasing, in 2024 the firm’s revenue sat at £17million.

Profits also decreased over time with the firm going from turning over £7.4million to just £1.2million in 2023.

The four directors of the brand receive a combined yearly remuneration of £3.6million.

The Mirror contacted Trapstar for further comment.

Three children rescued from sea after inflatables drift off Ayr beach

Published

Daily Mirror

Coastguard crews received urgent reports of the children in serious danger at around 3.45pm on Thursday after the youngsters were swept out to sea while enjoying the sweltering weather

Three children who became stranded at sea on inflatables have been rescued off the Ayrshire coastline.

It comes as 15 people have tragically died in water-related incidents during the recent heatwave.

Coastguard crews received desperate calls reporting the youngsters in grave danger at approximately 3.45pm on Thursday. The children had been making the most of the scorching weather at Ayr beach when they were carried out to sea.

An emergency lifeboat from Troon swiftly crossed open waters to reach the frightened youngsters. It later emerged, however, that Belfast Coastguard had already safely guided them back to shore.

A statement released by RNLI Troon Lifeboat read: “At 3.47pm on Thursday May 28, the pagers were activated by Belfast Coastguard following reports of three children in difficulty on inflatables at Ayr.

“The Shannon class all-weather lifeboat ‘RNLB Roy Barker VI’ was launched to the scene, but thankfully the crew were informed by the Coastguard on route the children were back safely ashore. The lifeboat crew were able to recover the inflatables before returning to Troon where the all weather lifeboat was made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.”, reports the Daily Record.

There were also several other emergency call-outs across Ayrshire throughout the heatwave this week. Lifeboat crews rushed to assist jet skiers in trouble at Stevenston Point on Tuesday, while paddleboarders were left stranded at Prestwick the following day.

Rescue crews have since urged members of the public to exercise caution while enjoying the warm weather. Troon RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Jim Redmond said: “Following the recent good weather the coast is becoming busier and our advice would be for anyone going out onto the water to please wear a suitable flotation device, check the weather and tides and ensure you have a means of calling for help should you get into difficulty.”

He added: “We would also advise not to use inflatables in the sea – please save them for the pool and if you do see someone in trouble at sea or along the coast, please call 999 and ask for Coastguard.”

‘Agony for Arsenal’ and ‘5 cops axed’ at Kensington Palace

'Agony for Arsenal' and '5 cops axed' at Kensington Palace
The headline on the front page of the Sunday Telegraph reads: “Benefits checks watered down”.

Similarly, the Sunday Telegraph is dominated by an image of an emotional Gabriel, and reads: “Arsenal’s Champions League dream dies”. It leads with a story accusing UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer of “watering down” checks on welfare benefits claimants, as new rules come into effect this week which will allow people to receive a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for four years after their initial assessment, and then a further six years after a review. The paper says claimants face reviews as often as every nine months under the current system. It writes that officials are warning that urgent changes to the welfare assessment system are needed, with the record number of people claiming PIPs costing the British taxpayer £26bn a year.

NASA releases new terrifying details as meteor explodes near Massachusetts

Published

Daily Mirror

NASA has now confirmed a meteor was travelling at 75,000 miles per hour (more than 120,000 km/h) at an altitude of 40 miles when it broke apart on Saturday May 30

A meteor crashing toward Earth exploded over the north-eastern United States on Saturday with a blast equivalent to 300 tons of TNT., NASA said.

The fireball broke up over northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire just after 2pm (1806 GMT), the US space agency’s deputy news chief Jennifer Dooren told AFP in a statement.

NASA Space Alerts tweeted: “Eyewitnesses in New England and @NOAA ’s GOES-19 satellite reported a bright fireball on Saturday, May 30, at 2:06 p.m EDT accompanied by a loud noise. The meteor appears to have fragmented at an altitude of 40 miles over northeast MA and southeast NH. The energy released at breakup is estimated to be equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT, which accounts for the loud noise. Eyewitness accounts supplied by the American Meteor Society.”

Some X users questioned the fireball sighting, one said: “There are plenty of people who heard and felt it. Pretty skeptical anyone actually saw a bright fireball. Who are these eyewitnesses? Any videos?” Another said: “Due to the clouds, not able see fire ball, but sure as heck heard it.”

While others were in total shock and wrote: “I saw this while traveling with a camper. I thought it was a missle/nuke.”

The American Meteorological Society says on its website that meteors move at extremely high speeds, and larger rocks that survive longer in the atmosphere can sometimes produce a sonic boom.

Witnessing a meteor during the day is extremely rare. While thousands of meteors enter Earth’s atmosphere daily, sunlight usually hides them, according to National Geographic.

City’s children’s services improve after ‘significant financial investment’

A council’s children’s services were rated inadequate in 2024 after a ‘deterioration in the quality of practice’

A council has been praised for “driving improvements” in its children’s services, after it was deemed inadequate in 2024. Peterborough City Council’s children’s services were rated as inadequate after an Ofsted inspection at the end of 2023.

Previously rated good in 2018, inspectors said there had been a “deterioration in the quality of practice”, following the 2023 inspection. Since then, Ofsted has been carrying out monitoring visits into the council’s children’s services.

The latest took place on February 24 where inspectors reviewed the council’s response to children experiencing neglect. Inspectors praised the council for remaining “committed and ambitious for children and families”.

They added: “There is strong corporate and political support and children’s services have benefitted from significant financial investment. The director of children’s services and the stable leadership team continue to drive improvements across the service.”

The reports also said the overall response to children experiencing neglect had improved. While there was praise for the council’s improvements, there continued to be delays in responding to some children in the multi-agency safeguarding hub due to “capacity issues”.

During the visit, inspectors said staff made “appropriate referrals” to children’s services for children requiring help and protection due to potential neglect. Social workers were also praised about their “robust analysis of children’s needs” when looking at the functioning of a family.

When dealing with children out of hours, the commissioned emergency duty team (EDT) were praised for having an “effective interface”. Social workers were also praised for children having “positive and enduring relationships” with them.

Inspectors also said action was taken “appropriately” when children continued to experience harm due to neglect from their parents. The report added that leaders had focused on recruitment and retention to “improve the stability of the workforce”.

Inspectors said: “This is showing promising results, with some social workers converting from agency to permanent posts, citing a positive work environment as informing their decisions.”

Councillor Katy Cole, cabinet member for children and young people at Peterborough City Council, said: “We are pleased with the outcome of this latest monitoring visit which acknowledges the ongoing progress we have made to achieve better outcomes for all children.

“We remain committed and ambitious for children and families and we continue to drive improvements across the service, including for children who have experienced potential neglect.

“I want to thank practitioners and staff for their hard work and continued dedication to the children and families of Peterborough. Our administration is fully focussed on working collaboratively and effectively to continue to improve this vital service.

“As we now build to our next full ILACs inspection this Labour led coalition is determined to make the changes needed to ensure all children in this city thrive, are safe and able to succeed in life.”

Beachgoer rescued after getting trapped in sinking sand as tide comes ‘up to her waist’

Published

Daily Record

The incident took place on Rhyl beach, Denbighshire where the “special lady” was rescued

Emergency services freed a woman from sinking sand on a beach, before the tide rose worryingly higher. The incident took place on Rhyl beach, Denbighshire where emergency services reported at one point, the water ‘came up to her waist’.

Rhyl’s RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) inshore lifeboat rushed to the scene at 9pm on Friday evening (May 29). The woman was reported to be stranded in soft sand off Splash Point in the resort, according to NorthWalesLive.

An RNLI Rhyl spokesperson said: “The inshore lifeboat was launched within minutes. Once arrived on scene, the crew found the casualty to be trapped in the sand with the incoming tide now around their waist.

“The lifeboat was brought alongside the casualty and crew put them in a lifejacket. A crewmember supported the casualty on their back, which popped their feet out of the sand.

“The casualty was recovered into the inshore lifeboat, and brought back to the lifeboat station for a check-over and warm up. Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked to the incident.”

Quick to thank the RNLI crew, on social media, was the woman’s mum from Rhyl. Another person added: “Thank you so very much for saving a very special lady.”

People stuck in soft sand are advised to remain calm and not struggle as this can worsen the problem. While leaning back to distribute your weight, gently wiggling your legs can let water loosen the sand’s suction.

Meanwhile, RNLI Holyhead responded to its fourth shout of the half-term break when two jetskiers became stuck on sandbanks near Traeth Penrhos beach. Initial reports suggested one jetskier might be injured.

Other information indicated they were in fact stranded near the Stanley Embankment (Valley Cob). Heading to Traeth Penrhos, RNLI Holyhead’s inshore boat was joined by local cliff rescue teams.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “On reaching the location, it was found that there were two jetskiers, and no injuries. The casualties had been stuck on sandbanks – however they had managed to re-float and were starting to head back to Llanfwrog (also known as Sandy Beach) where they had come from.

“Suitable safety advice was given, and the casualties then headed back to Llanfwrog, where they were being met by the Holyhead volunteer Coastguard team.”

RNLI Holyhead Lifeboat Station said water sports enthusiasts should always wear a suitable lifejacket or buoyancy aid. They should also have a means of calling for help.

The station added: “We’d like to remind everyone to be aware of the tides and layout of our local waters – it can be very difficult to judge the depth of water in certain locations.”
