X Factor fans spot major clue the reboot is happening with quiet update
Rumours of an X Factor return continue to pick up steam (Picture: Shutterstock)

The X Factor has added fuel to the fire of speculation with the release of an update to its Facebook page.

It was reported earlier this month that a reboot of the ITV talent show has been in the works since December, with those in the know sworn to secrecy.

Before being axed, The X Factor had run every year from 2004 until 2018, producing 15 series (plus a celebrity spin-off in 2019).

During this time, it was responsible for discovering some of the biggest names in British music, including Alexandra Burke, Olly Murs and One Direction.

ITV confirmed that the show had officially been cancelled in 2021, while forging ahead with Simon Cowell’s other star-making behemoth, Britain’s Got Talent.

With rumours of a reboot picking up steam, The X Factor has suddenly changed its profile picture on Facebook – leaving fans more convinced than ever that the show is coming back.

This weekend, The X Factor quietly updated its Facebook page, changing the profile picture back to that of its 2016-2018 logo.

This is the third redesign of the branding, which stripped away the words ‘The’ and ‘Factor’ from the design, leaving only the iconic X.

Its final redesign, released in 2018, was a gold version of the logo with a bigger series of X’s at its core.

This update was the validation fans needed that their beloved show is coming back, with Rhodri writing on Facebook: ‘So this has confirmed the speculations about the show is coming back.’

Emma described it as ‘a sign,’ while Lynne was convinced that the show is ‘making a comeback’

‘It’s time to get the band back together!’ Bethan exclaimed, as Ellie added: ‘If it’s not Sharon, Simon and Louis, I don’t want to know.’

Sharon Osbourne, Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh are perhaps the show’s most well-known iteration of the judging panel, having debuted when the show first aired in 2004.

In the years that followed, judges came and went, with the likes of Cheryl, Gary Barlow, Tulisa and Nicole Scherzinger all bringing their expertise to the panel.

Prior to its cancellation, the show’s 15th series saw Simon lead a judging panel which consisted of Louis Tomlinson, Robbie Williams and Ayda Field.

If the 2016-2018 iteration of the logo serves as a clue, then Louis, Sharon and Nicole all appeared on those series, with Simon once again leading the charge.

During this time, the show was hosted by Dermot O’Leary, in the second of two presenting stints.

The This Morning star, who hosted The X Factor from 2007-2014 and 2016-2018, is rumoured to be coming back when (or if!) the show makes its return.

However, he played coy when questioned by Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain this month.

‘It’s six years since it was on air which doesn’t sound like that much of a long time, but the world has changed and the music’s changed, and how we communicate and how we watch things has changed so much in those six years,’ Dermot said.

He continued: ‘I’m fascinated as to what they’ll do if they do bring it back. It’d have to be, in many ways, a very different show [but] you still want the nostalgia of how it was in the first place.’

It was also reported that Love Island host Maya Jama is a ‘frontrunner’ in talks to host the rebooted X Factor.

An insider told The Sun that Maya is ‘perfect for the reboot,’ with ‘plenty of experience hosting live shows and is one of the hottest talents on telly right now.’

‘The X Factor want to appeal the show to younger viewers and they feel Maya’s Love Island hosting and her huge following make her an ideal candidate.’

Chinese takeaway Spennymoor reopens with five-star rating

The Fortune Inn on Durham Road has reopened as Summer Place Chinese Buffet & Bar after securing a five-star food hygiene rating.

The Spennymoor restaurant announced its launch on social media, telling customers: “The wait is finally over.”

In a post, the business said: “We’re incredibly excited to announce that Summer Place Chinese Buffet & Bar is opening today.

“Come and join us for a delicious selection of Chinese favourites, chef’s specialities, noodle boxes, set dinners and more.

“Whether you’re joining us for a family meal, a catch-up with friends or simply fancy some delicious Chinese food, we can’t wait to welcome you through our doors.”

The reopening follows criticism over the restaurant’s damning one star food hygiene rating in February.

The earlier inspection found rodent droppings, chicken being thawed unsafely and mouldy fridge seals among a series of hygiene failings.

After a reinspection under new management, the revamped restaurant received a new five-star rating.

The new owners have given the venue a fresh identity.

The relaunch has already attracted attention online, including from local food reviewer Kyle V Food, who praised the restaurant’s turnaround.

In a video review, he said: “A little while ago, this place got a bad rap, didn’t it? Low hygiene rating – but now it’s got a five-star.”

After ordering beef in black bean sauce, honey chilli chicken, chicken curry, chow mein and salt-and-pepper chicken, Kyle delivered his verdict on his first meal from the Chinese takeaway since reopening.

Kyle said: “That is how you do it.”

“Fortune Inn, Spennymoor. Newly opened, with obviously a five-star hygiene rating now. Get down, give it a try.”

The business is now rebranding from the Fortune Inn to Summer Place Chinese Buffet & Bar following the revamp, describing itself as “your new Chinese favourite in Spennymoor” as it looks to make a new name for itself.

The Spanish town that stole John Lennon’s heart: Almeria 60 years after Beatlemania

Published

on

Almeria blends a sense of modernity with a real authentic Andalusian charm

It’s where spaghetti Westerns were filmed and John Lennon wrote Strawberry Fields Forever. Today, sun-drenched Almeria makes for a perfect autumn break.

Tucked in Spain’s south-east between Europe’s only desert and the Med is a coastal city with a star-studded past.

In the 1950s and 1960s this was the ‘Costa del Hollywood’, with many a spaghetti Western shot in the adjoining Tabernas Desert starring the likes of Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef.

The ‘scene’ even inspired a Beatle. John Lennon arrived in 1966, accompanied by his wife Cynthia, to film the black comedy How I Won The War, fresh from a sell-out US tour.

Back then, as Cynthia later recalled, General Franco’s Almeria was a deeply traditional city where donkey carts plied the streets and widows wore black.

Now, though, Almeria is transformed. The city centre, a tangle of handsome pastel-hued buildings, has become a hub of art and creativity – and the autumn is a great time to go as temperatures hover around 20C (68F). So it’s warm enough for alfresco lunches and cool enough to explore the 1,000-year-old Alcazaba fortress.

One of the big cultural draws is the new Art Museum of Almeria, which showcases works by contemporary Almerian artists, while the recently opened MuReC is dedicated to the contemporary realism movement.

For a splash of history, step back into the 11th century at the Barrio Andalusi archaeological site.

The nearby, oh-so-sleek Aire Hotel and Ancient Baths, where I’m staying, is a hushed, low-lit haven, with flickering candles; an ideal base. The building’s vault has been converted into Roman-style baths, while the rooftop features a plunge pool and solarium.

Yet for all Almeria’s new gloss, there’s plenty of authentic Andalusian charm. Join locals at the Central Market, where fresh seafood sizzles on grills. Take a seat by an old wine barrel and enjoy a decent drop with a slice of jamon at one of the alluring tiled tapas bars.

It’s all so Spanish, until you stumble upon a bronze statue of Lennon guitar in hand in Plaza de las Flores.

It was during his stay here that Lennon cut his hair short and began wearing those metal-rimmed granny glasses (initially for his acting role as Private Gripweed) but he loved them so much, he kept them.

Lennon, who turned 26 in Almeria and whose rental villa is now a popular film museum, was joined for a while by Ringo Starr and his first wife Maureen.

And, on a night out, they were all to be dazzled by a performance of local flamenco guitarist Pepe Richoly.

That rich thread of flamenco continues, especially in the old fishermen’s quarter, La Pescaderia. Here, I catch a show at La Canastera, an intimate bar where two young local musicians pluck guitars and lament with a mournfulness beyond their years.

Beatlemania may be long gone in this corner of Spain, but the music goes on.

Three sisters who drowned at Brighton Beach earlier this year had just days before visited the lake where their mother also drowned 10 years prior.

The bodies of Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were found in the water on May 13.

Their mother,Janice Adetoro, drowned earlier near the home where the family was living in Birmingham in 2016.

It is still unclear how the siblings ended up in the water.

Their cousin, Natalie Walters-Daniel, 33, said the trio had travelled to Birmingham on a visit with a ‘deeper meaning’ two days before they died.

She told the Sunday Times that her cousins – who were 20, 16, and 15 when Janice died – never got her death.

‘To lose their mum at the ages that they were, it was the crucial stages of growing up and becoming young women,’ she said.

‘The years where a mother’s presence and guidance and reassurance and love should be, they didn’t receive that.

‘And for them to come to Birmingham, to take that moment that they did within the lake and also to see their mother, I think that there is definitely a connection there.’

Janice was last seen by one of her daughters, with whom she lived, before she went missing.

She suffered from stress-related mental health issues but did not take medication with her when she disappeared in December 2009.

Her brother, Lincoln, said at the time: ‘The girls are so upset and can’t stop thinking about you and for their sake we need you to make contact.’

Her body was found three months after she vanished.

An inquest recorded that prior to her death she had attended a police station with ‘paranoid delusions’.

Her daughters later moved back to London, where neighbours described them as private and unsociable.

Sussex Police have concluded their investigation, finding no evidence of third-party involvement.

Natalie said the family is ‘not going to get the full answers to this’, but she hoped an inquest into her cousins’ deaths next month may give them some more information.

The women’s dad, Joseph, previously said that ‘no words can truly describe the pain of losing three daughters’.

In a tribute published by the BBC, he said: ‘You were more than my daughters: you were my joy, my strength and the beautiful light that filled my life with love.’

‘There are moments when it feels unbearable, but I hold tightly to the memories we shared, the love we knew and the bond that nothing can ever take away.’

GoFundMe page set up by their uncle in the days after their deaths has raised more than £45,000 to go towards the cost of the women’s funerals.

The page, set up by their uncle Adesoji Adetoro, reads: ‘As a family, we are still struggling to come to terms with what has happened. The girls had so much life ahead of them, and their loss has left a pain and emptiness in our hearts that words cannot describe.

‘No parent should ever have to bury their child, let alone all three.

‘While trying to process this unimaginable tragedy, my brother is now also faced with the heartbreaking task of arranging three funerals. As a family, we simply want to give the girls the loving and dignified farewell they deserve.

‘We are humbly asking for any support you may be able to offer towards the funeral expenses. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help ease the burden on the family during this incredibly difficult time.’

Andros Townsend delivers perfect response after being run over by pitch roller in freak accident

Published

Daily Mirror

Former England winger Andros Townsend has taken to social media to joke about the incident in which he was run over by a pitch roller during a warm-up for his Thai League club PT Prachuap.

Ex-Premier League winger Andros Townsend has responded to being run over by a pitch roller during his warm-up for a Thai League game. On Saturday evening, clips of the incident emerged on social media.

Townsend plays for Thai side PT Prachuap, who were preparing for their away fixture against Pattani. During the warm-up for the game, a pitch roller seemingly went rogue, with a member of the ground staff losing control, crashing it into Townsend on the pitch.

The 35-year-old briefly had his leg stuck under the vehicle. But he miraculously escaped without any injuries and was able to come off the bench late in the second half in his side’s 3-0 win.

Townsend has now taken to social media to poke fun at what happened. Resharing an earlier post of his on his Instagram story, which read: “WTF is Stoke away” with clips of him enjoying life in Thailand, he added: “Turns out Stoke away wasn’t so bad after all (laughing emoji) swipe to see why.”

The following slide shows footage of him being flattened by the roller. He has also shared other posts making light of the episode, including being dubbed “the king of memes in Thai League history. ” He added: “Trust me” with four laughing emojis.

Townsend signed for PT Prachuap last month on a contract running until next summer. He made his bow in the 1-0 defeat to Rayong FC earlier this month and has since featured twice more for the club, including as a late substitute against Pattani.

The winger spent the previous campaign with Thai outfit Kanchanaburi, where he clocked up 30 appearances, netting three goals and laying on six assists. He has also had a stint in Turkey with Antalyaspor.

Shedding light on his decision to head to Thailand in an interview with TalkSPORT, he said: “Towards the back end of last season, I was playing in Turkey, and I hadn’t been paid a few months’ salary.

“The club said to me ‘you can take your salary – but you’re never going to play for the club again’ so I took the salary.

“I hadn’t played since March, got a bit frustrated, so in the summer I said to Marlon [my agent] I don’t care where I go, just take me somewhere nice, interesting and tropical.

“He came back with one or two options in Europe but for some reason my gut was just really interested about the option in Thailand.”

During his time in England, Townsend turned out for a string of clubs on both loan and permanent arrangements. Roy Hodgson handed him his international bow in 2013, and he went on to earn a further 12 caps, with his final outing for the Three Lions coming in a 2-2 friendly against Spain in November 2016.

Over the summer, he took on punditry and co-commentary duties for ITV during the World Cup in North America, giving his Instagram followers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the experience through daily video diaries.

She wrote: ‘Welcome to the world, River. Our little bit of hope’.

She revealed at the time that Tom’s parents ‘fully supported’ her, saying: ‘I’ve got such an amazing village and even with Tom’s parents Noreen and Nigel, they have supported me with whatever I’ve decided to do and they understand how hard it is.’

Kelsey announced her pregnancy in May, saying that Tom and Phoenix had sent her a ‘rainbow baby’ – a term used for a healthy baby born after a family has experienced a previous pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant death.

Despite her new love, she explained that Tom very much lives on in their home, going on: ‘For us at home, Tom is so alive in our house and we speak to him everyday…

‘For my children, they are still babies and they are still processing it everyday so these conversations are never going to go away and we are still dealing with the conversation.’

Kelsey spoke of how meeting Will helped her recover from her loneliness, saying: ‘It’s about finding happiness and with friends and family there is only so much they can do and it’s lovely to have someone to offload to…

‘I was lonely and I’m 34 now, I was so lonely and just wanted someone and now I’ve met someone.’

On grieving, she said: ‘What I’ve learnt is there is no wrong or right way to grieve and we all talk about when is it the right time to move on and I just don’t think there is a right time…

‘I never thought at the age of 32 with two young children that I would have been widowed.’

She spoke about how her children helped her with Phoenix’s death, saying: ‘My kids are my everything, they have got me through the darkest of times…

‘I can’t believe I’m back here three and a half years later dealing with such a loss and a devastation, but me and Will have the kids and they have to have normality, they have to go to school…

‘I did do the school run and for me, I think you have to rip the plaster off at some point, and if I’d left it until after the summer holidays and I came back and saw the parents, people don’t know what to say…

‘We are so awful about talking about grief, loss and death and us as a family, we’re not. So, I did get up and do the school run, and I faced everyone.’

Homeowners urged to wipe autumn condensation from windows

Homeowners urged to wipe autumn condensation from windows

Neglecting to do so could lead to mould and rot, experts at Lifestyle Blinds have warned.

Condensation forms when warm, moist indoor air meets cold window glass, causing moisture to collect on the surface.

If ignored, it can either evaporate back into the room or run down the frame, increasing the risk of mould and, in the case of wooden windows, rot.

Heath Showman from Lifestyle Blinds said: “Autumn is a particular problem time for condensation.

“As outdoor temperatures drop, warm, humid indoor air meets glass that’s much colder than it was during the summer.

“The moisture drops out of the air onto the glass, causing condensation.

“We also have windows shut for longer, meaning ventilation drops, the nights are longer and cooler and the weather wetter.

“There are lots of gadgets on the market to help keep windows condensation free, and whilst they do work, there are much cheaper ways to do it.

“Simply wiping it down is certainly the most cost effective – just make sure it’s part of your daily routine to keep on top of it throughout the coming months.”

The advice is simple and low-cost.

Mr Showman recommends using a microfibre cloth or squeegee to wipe away condensation.

He also advises wringing the cloth out over a sink or outside the room, rather than near the window.

It’s also important to clean not just the glass but also the sills and frame edges, where moisture can collect and cause the most harm.

Once the area is dry, opening the window briefly can help clear the damp air.

Following this routine each morning can help prevent long-term issues.

Additional tips to reduce indoor moisture include covering pans while cooking, using extractor fans, and drying clothes outside or in well-ventilated spaces.

Keeping bathroom doors shut and fans running during baths or showers can also help.

To improve airflow, Lifestyle Blinds suggests opening windows daily for a short period, keeping window vents open, and leaving space around furniture to allow air to circulate.

Consistently following these steps can help protect homes from avoidable damage throughout the colder season.

Do you make sure you wipe your windows every day? Let us know in the comments.

Rangers team news – unchanged from last week

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. After their 3-0 demolition of Celtic last week, Derek McInnes has opted for an unchanged starting XI.

All eyes will be on James Penrice again to see if he’s at left-back again in a four-at-the-back or if he pushes up into midfield, leaving a back three.

Djeidi Gassama and Kevin Kelsy both impressed on the wings last week, and will try to do so again.

Celtic team news

Here’s the team news for today, starting with Celtic.

Not unsurprisingly, Martin O’Neill has opted for Viljami Sinisalo in goal after Sam Johnstone’s very shaky display in the Old Firm last weeked.

Once again, Haissem Hassan is only on the bench but Luke McCowan gets the start rather than Sebastian Tounekti. I fear that still won’t be the most popular with Celtic fans though…

Why are away fans banned at the Celtic v Rangers Old Firm derby this afternoon?

Celtic and Rangers fans have been banned from attending away matches between the Old Firm clubs in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup this season, which includes this afternoon’s Premiership clash at Parkhead.

The “temporary arrangement” follows the disruption at the Scottish Cup quarter-final between the teams at Ibrox last season, which has led to behind-closed-doors punishments for both clubs in their next home fixture in that competition.

An independent review into the Scottish Cup match at Ibrox found that that “crushing” and “life-threatening violence” were narrowly avoided after Rangers fans stormed the pitch to confront Celtic supporters who had spilled onto the field in celebration.

KEMI BADENOCH: Of course the captains of industry and wealth creators are quitting Britain when Labour treats them as cows to be milked

Published

on

Kemi Badenoch is seen during a visit to Global Technologies Racing in Fontwell, West Sussex, earlier this month

Labour has made it very clear to wealthy people that they are not welcome in the UK.

Whether it’s threats of a ‘mansion tax’, or an exit tax if they dare leave the country, there can be no doubt: under Andy Burnham, Britain is becoming a hostile environment for the very people we need to create jobs and prosperity.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the founder of the hugely successful petrochemical firm Ineos and Manchester United’s co-owner, said on Saturday that he had lost confidence in Britain.

The UK’s biggest taxpayer, betting billionaire Fred Done, joined Sir Jim by saying he would leave these shores if he wasn’t so old and has ‘never felt so gloomy’ about the outlook for the UK since he opened his first bookies in Salford in 1967.

Done and Sir Jim are not just names on a rich list – they are serious contributors to our economy. The latter was once handing the Exchequer more than £100million a year.

Responding to Sir Jim, Labour’s pensions minister Torsten Bell – a public-sector man through and through – had the audacity to say he was not a patriot. It was a crass response that revealed more of Bell’s own inadequacies before a hugely successful entrepreneur than anything I could write here.

The question inept Labour ministers such as him should be asking themselves is: who replaces the tax paid by these captains of industry when they leave?

Labour can dislike billionaires as much as it likes. But when a man paying £330million a year in tax leaves Britain – as happened when hedge fund boss Chris Rokos moved his tax residency to Greece this month – the Treasury doesn’t stop needing £330million.

How should Britain balance fair taxation with keeping its top talent and wealth creators at home?

The answer is that the money will, of course, come from the rest of us. That is why Labour is now floating ‘wealth’ taxes and ‘mansion’ taxes that are going for middle-class families and their family homes.

Only days ago, Andy Burnham gathered entrepreneurs in Downing Street and promised that his government would be a ‘partner for growth’. The sort of nice words we’ve come to expect from our Prime Minister as he is, after all, a people-pleaser.

He tells everyone whatever they want to hear, but his actions speak louder than his words. And the wealthy voting with their feet to leave Britain speaks volumes of a country that no longer welcomes investment and job creation but treats business and entrepreneurs as cows to be milked.

Of course, it is not just tax receipts they take with them, but jobs too. Government can’t redistribute prosperity that has not been created. It won’t be in Britain that the next generation of firms will build itself from start-ups to small- and medium-sized businesses and beyond. It will be another country, less hostile to enterprise, that will benefit from the jobs that process will bring.

Here, the teenagers and graduates searching for work, the apprentices desperate for a start, and the risk-takers dreaming of turning their passion into a business will all lose out.

Britain has almost a million young people not in education, employment or training. Ministers try to blame Conservative school reforms that shot our pupils up international league tables, when the reality is that it was Labour’s reckless tax rises and red tape that fed this dire situation.

The fundamental problem is that this current crop of Labour politicians isn’t tough enough to make difficult decisions.

Whether it’s refusing to cut welfare and instead offering ’employment support’, or Burnham saying ‘national security cannot come at the expense of social security’, the Prime Minister’s entire political proposition is that difficult choices can be avoided.

They cannot. Just look at the decisions on oil and gas. Sir Jim criticised Britain importing energy unnecessarily, attacked North Sea taxation and raised concerns about gas storage. He called our failure to exploit our own resources ‘insanity’.

He is being polite. The Government’s bovine response, that it remained ‘confident’ about supply, shows how clueless they are of a crisis waiting to happen.

Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline, which bypassed the troublesome Strait of Hormuz, has been badly damaged by drone attacks. Houthi bandits threaten shipping routes into the Red Sea. British families and businesses can see perfectly well that another shock is coming to their energy bills.

Yet our Prime Minister and his Cabinet are behaving like a flock of ostriches, heads buried so deep in the sand they could strike oil themselves.

British industry is currently crushed by some of the highest electricity bills anywhere in the world.

We have oil and gas fields in the North Sea waiting to be approved that could bring down those costs. And yet, despite being signed off under the Conservatives, Sir Keir Starmer and now Burnham have dithered for more than two years.

The Conservative answer is straightforward. We must end Labour’s ban on new oil and gas licences, maximise North Sea extraction and scrap the Energy Profits Levy.

The Jackdaw and Rosebank fields are ready to drill, and workers are primed, yet Burnham appears more worried about a by-election in north London than he does in bringing down bills.

I have my views on why Labour keeps getting things wrong. My Shadow Chancellor, Andrew Griffith, has more private-sector experience than the whole Labour frontbench combined. Andrew spent decades in business, including as a FTSE100 finance director, and has actually made the sorts of decisions that Labour ministers are too scared to contemplate.

Conservatives always have to clean up the huge mess that Labour leaves behind. That’s why my economic team is devising policies that will revitalise business in the UK, create jobs and hopefully convince the wealth drivers and entrepreneurs that Britain is still worth investing in.

We are asking the questions that need to be asked. How do we make Britain richer? How do we persuade somebody to build their company here rather than in America or China? How do we convince investors to choose Britain over Paris, Dubai or New York?

At the same time, Burnham is gazing out of the window of No 10 ‘North’, longing for the pre-Thatcher economic era, when the state owned much of the economy and the public suffered through rolling blackouts, uncollected bins and even gravedigger strikes.

When Labour reaches for the taxpayer’s credit card one more time and discovers it has been declined, it will look around and ask where all the money went.

The uncomfortable answer will be staring the party in the face – the Government drove it away.
