Jeffrey Gundlach meant it as an insult. Crypto has become a boomer thing. Tom Lee heard the same observation and reached a completely different conclusion.

Tom Lee, former JP Morgan chief equity strategist and co-founder of Fundstrat Global Advisors, does not see the boomers arriving in crypto as a warning sign. He sees it as confirmation that the whole thing is real. And he backs that up with numbers that are genuinely difficult to dismiss. A stable coin company with roughly 300 employees is on track to generate profits that would rank it among the eight most profitable financial institutions on the planet this year. A quantitative trading firm running mostly on compute is projected to outear Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America individually with a fraction of the headcount. And within 10 years, Lee believes five of the 10 largest banks in the world will be companies born on blockchain from the very beginning.

His argument is not built on price targets or cycle timing. It is built on the same framework he uses to analyze any major structural shift in markets, and what he sees in crypto right now is something he has watched play out before in other industries just before everything changed.

In this video we walk through exactly what he said and why the current situation in crypto is more interesting than most people realize. Why tokenization has moved from theory to first-quarter earnings reports at the world’s biggest asset managers. Why autonomous AI agents conducting commerce at machine speed need payment infrastructure that Visa and Mastercard were never designed to provide.

Why the profit gap between Jane Street with 3,000 employees and JP Morgan with 300,000 is not an efficiency story but a completely different model of what a financial institution can look like. Why Lee called 7,300 on the S&P at the start of the year and why hitting that target is making him more cautious rather than more confident. Why the oil situation is the one unresolved variable he flags as genuinely capable of producing a surprise later this year. And why his answer to whether crypto can absorb that turbulence and come out the other side intact is yes.

Bitcoin as the store of value. Ethereum as the compute layer. The financial world, old and new, converging on the same rails. That is the frame Tom Lee is working from. Given where the evidence is pointing, it is worth understanding before it becomes obvious.
