LeBron James free agency rumors: Which suitors could be out due to contract demands?

LeBron James for a minimum salary? For most of his career, that seemed like a fantasy. With his 2026 free agency approaching, the concept seemed at least somewhat plausible. Though James is worth a good deal more, he is 41 and seemingly eager to contend for a championship. The sort of teams that are capable of doing so tend not to have much more available money than that to offer and, unlike his prior free agencies, he is likely too old at this point for teams to justify moving heaven and earth in order to create the money needed to pay him appropriately.
James is the highest-paid player in NBA history by a wide margin at this point, and he’s earned even more money off the court. Anything he earns now, by his standard, is effectively pocket change. But that doesn’t mean interested parties should expect the discount. In fact, insider Jake Fischer said Wednesday that James taking a minimum salary “does not sound like that is actually in the cards at all.”
James hasn’t taken a substantial pay cut since he left the Miami Heat in 2014. It therefore shouldn’t be all that surprising to hear that he’s not eager to do so now. For some suitors, this registers as a mild disappointment. For others, it functionally removes them from serious contention for LeBron’s services. So, whose hopes of securing James just took the biggest hit?
- The Knicks and Nuggets are probably out. New York is already roughly at next season’s first apron before re-signing Mitchell Robinson, Landry Shamet or Mo Diawara. The Nuggets are basically at the second apron before re-signing restricted free agent Peyton Watson. Both teams likely would have been thrilled to secure James at the minimum. Neither really has the means to create much more room to pay him.
- The Warriors and Cavaliers have work to do, but both have feasible, albeit difficult, paths to either a mid-level offer or a somewhat hefty sign-and-trade. Cleveland is above next year’s projected second apron, but could use James Harden’s player option to lower his cap figure in exchange for more guaranteed years. From there, the idea would probably be to dump one mid-sized salary (like a Dennis Schröder or Max Strus) and then trade Jarrett Allen to the center-needy Lakers for James at a number below the $28 million Allen will make next season. If they get James via sign-and-trade, they will have to stay below the first apron. The same is true for the nontaxpayer mid-level exception, which would be Golden State’s target. Golden State has about $21 million in room below that line for now, but that doesn’t include a new contract for Kristaps Porziņģis or filling out the roster. Still, the Warriors can use the same player option trick with Draymond Green that Cleveland can with Harden, and they can save money in other ways, like trading Moses Moody or attaching picks to Jimmy Butler in some sort of trade for a healthier star.
- If money is a major factor, the Clippers, with a path to $28 million in space in James’ current home market, get interesting. The Nets and Bulls have significant cap space, but likely aren’t good enough to attract James without further, unforeseeable upgrades. Detroit has about $25 million in cap space even with Jalen Duren‘s cap hold accounted for, so in theory, the Pistons could pay James real money to replace Tobias Harris, but there has been no reporting linking James to Detroit and market size makes it unlikely.
The Lakers are in financial poll position unless they decide not to be. They have full Bird Rights and can pay James anything up to the max. Their interest in doing so will depend on how they choose to spend their potential $48 million in cap space. If they use all of it on external additions, they’d be limited to the cap room mid-level exception (roughly $9 million) for James. If they use some space on an outside player or two, they could save the rest of it for James. And if they operate above the salary cap, they can run back last year’s roster with minimal changes and pay James whatever it takes to keep him.
What exactly they plan to do is not yet clear and depends on a number of variables that aren’t yet predictable. In a perfect world, the Lakers likely would have hoped to retain James with as much of a discount as possible. Now, it seems as though keeping him will at least mean devoting real financial resources, but if this postseason was any indication, he’s still well worth doing so.

GWS Giants vs Brisbane Lions Preview
GWS and Brisbane will both look to rebound from disappointing losses when they clash at ENGIE Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Giants’ defeat to West Coast highlighted their ongoing struggles away from home, although returning to Sydney should provide a timely boost given their strong record at ENGIE Stadium. Brisbane’s heavy loss to Geelong was only its second defeat in eight matches, but the Lions will be wary of a recent trend against the Giants after losing three of the last four meetings between the clubs. GWS prevailed in an entertaining clash at the Gabba last season, powered by a dominant combined haul from Jesse Hogan and Aaron Cadman. However, Hogan’s continued absence through injury leaves a significant hole in the Giants’ attack and could tilt the balance towards Brisbane in a match that shapes as crucial for both clubs’ top-eight ambitions.

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao 2 may be back in jeopardy as Mayweather books another fight
A new development could once again put the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao rematch in doubt.
It was revealed back in February that Mayweather and Pacquiao were set to meet for the second time, over 10 years on from their initial fight and eight years from when Mayweather last competed professionally.
Several problems then emerged that raised concerns that the bout wouldn’t actually take place, with Mayweather claiming that the fight would be an exhibition rather than a fully sanctioned contest. The announced date and venue was then also disputed.
It appeared those issues had been resolved earlier this month when the pair reportedly agreed to new terms for their fight, but now Mayweather looks set for another outing in the same timeframe, leading to a potential clash.
His planned exhibition fight with Mike Tyson has now been officially pushed back, with CIS Sports revealing the legendary duo are set to meet this Autumn after ‘Iron Mike’ recovers from the injury that delayed their bout.
“Global superstars Mike Tyson and undefeated Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather (50-0), who signed to get in the ring in an exhibition this Spring, will have a short moment to wait while Tyson fully recovers from a broken hand he injured during training.
“Tyson, who was seen sporting a cast while he continues to work through a smooth recovery, is looking forward to the fight that will be rescheduled to a date in the Fall of 2026. The date, venue and FIGHT SPORTS® broadcast plans will be announced shortly.
“The Legend vs Legend exhibition, per agreements with CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS®, was originally scheduled for May 30 and will only see a short postponement.
“CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS® exclusive deals with Tyson and Mayweather positions the company at the forefront of major global sports events, reinforcing its commitment to delivering marquee events and historic matchups to fans worldwide.”
Along with the rescheduled fight with Tyson, Mayweather is also set for an exhibition against Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis in June, so it seems there could be even more hurdles to overcome if the rematch against Pacquiao is indeed set to happen.

Freiburg 0-3 Aston Villa: Prince William celebrates Europa League final win
A regular visitor to Villa Park, Prince William was spotted in the crowd celebrating as Villa beat Nottingham Forest earlier this month to secure their place in the Europa League final.
So it was only right that the prince made the trip to Turkey to witness Villa history.
Television cameras picked up on the prince soaking it all in before kick-off, before celebrating with those close by as Villa got a grip on the trophy.
The prince also made sure to capture the historic moment when John McGinn hoisted the trophy high above his head.
Villa captain McGinn labelled Prince William as “just a normal guy” after the win.
McGinn told TNT Sports: “He’s a classy man, he was in the dressing room before the game.
“He’s a massive Villa fan, he was never going to miss it. He’s just a normal guy, it’s great to have his support.”
The prince started supporting Villa during his school days in Berkshire, choosing a team further afield as he did not want to follow the crowd.
“A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Manchester United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams,” he told the BBC in 2015.
“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
William was born 26 days after Villa’s European Cup final win against Bayern Munich on 26 May 1982.
He has spoken previously about the joy he gets from following a club with the ups and downs that Villa have experienced.
“Aston Villa‘s always had a great history. I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea [in the final],” he added.
“It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with.”

Offbeat Trade Idea Connects New OLB to Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings might have a slight roster deficiency at outside linebacker after trading Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles last month, and Fansided says the best way to fix that is a trade for New York Giants defender Kayvon Thibodeaux.
The price may be manageable if New York ever shops the former No. 5 pick.
Several free-agent EDGE rushers are also on the open market, but Jake Beckman claims Thibodeaux is the way.
Brian Flores Could Use Another Young EDGE Piece
For the most part, Vikings fans would approve of this transaction.
Fansided: Thibodeaux to Vikings via Trade Makes Sense
Beckman identified one trade candidate per team this week, and on Thibodeaux to Minnesota, he wrote, “The Vikings traded Johnathon Greenard to the Eagles during the draft, and now they’re going to be missing out on a whole lot of snaps and even more production. Luckily for them, the Giants are sitting there with a plethora of defensive ends and edge rushers.”
“New York might be saying that they’re not going to trade Kayvon Thibodeaux, but that’s what every team says, so they don’t lose leverage in any potential trades. If the Vikings wanted to go and get him, they’d definitely be able to… However, if you’re a Vikings fan, that’s probably not what you want.”
Four years ago, Thibodeaux was considered one of the next big things in the NFL.
Beckman continued, “Sure, Thibodeaux would end up being awesome, but I don’t necessarily want my team to make any trades when they don’t have a general manager. Especially after they just traded a player like Greenard for the low price of two third-round picks.”
Thibodeaux’s Production
Curious about Thibodeaux’s track record? We’ve got it. These are the numbers:
2022: 4.0 Sacks | 45 Pressures | 13 QB Hits | 14 Gms
2023: 11.5 Sacks | 43 Pressures | 16 QB Hits | 17 Gms
2024: 5.5 Sacks | 38 Pressures | 17 QB Hits | 12 Gms
2025: 2.5 Sacks | 32 Pressures | 9 QB Hits | 10 Gms
17-Game Avg: 7.5 Sacks | 40 Pressures | 18 QB Hits
And his Pro Football Focus scorecard since 2022:
- 2022: 72.5
- 2023: 58.4
- 2024: 69.0
- 2025: 66.0
It’s worth noting that Thibodeaux’s tackling has waned over the last two seasons; he’ll need to improve it before too long.
Possible Trade Price
NFL trade packages notoriously vary, but for Thibodeaux, an interested team might have to pony up the equivalent of a 3rd- or 4th-Rounder. The man does pressure quarterbacks, and he’ll always have the fifth overall draft pick stock from 2022.
For example, if Minnesota wanted him, a deal might have to look like this:
Vikings Get —
Kayvon Thibodeaux
2027 5th-Rounder
Giants Get —
2027 3rd-Rounder
Minnesota notably doesn’t have a 4th-Round pick next year because of its ill-fated Adam Thielen trade in 2025. What’s more, the Vikings have an extra 3rd-Rounder in 2027 because of the aforementioned Greenard trade to the Eagles last month — perhaps more firepower to land a notable EDGE via trade.
The Athletic‘s Dan Duggan noted on Thibodeaux’s trade price in April, “The Saints were the team most interested in trading for Thibodeaux, however, according to a league source. The problem was the sides weren’t close on potential compensation.”
“The Saints’ best offer is believed to have been a fourth-round pick (No. 132), while the Giants were seeking a second-round pick — the Saints had the 42nd selection. The Saints moved on, instead sending a fifth-round pick to the Raiders for defensive end Tyree Wilson and a seventh-round pick.”
In-House Options at OLB
If the Vikings do not consult a trade for a third pass rusher, they have a few options behind the starters, Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner. The first is rookie Jake Golday. Minnesota drafted him as an off-ball linebacker, but he played some EDGE in junior college before taking the plunge at ILB in Cincinnati. Flores could deploy Golday like Van Ginkel, a hybrid OLB-ILB.
Flores also has two undrafted free-agent outside linebackers: Bo Richter and Tyler Batty. One of those men could be ready for a breakout, at least in OLB3 terms, and if so, Minnesota would need no Thibodeauxs.
Otherwise, the free-agent market has names like Denico Autry, Derek Barnett, Joey Bosa, Jadeveon Clowney, Marcus Davenport, A.J. Epenesa, Leonard Floyd, Cameron Jordan, Von Miller, Haason Reddick, and Kyle Van Noy.
Thibodeaux will turn 26 in December. He’s right in the middle of his prime. He’ll also need a new contract between now and next March.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Blitz Prompts ‘Area 51’ Post From R Ashwin, Internet In Meltdown
Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin delivered a humorous take while praising batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after the 15-year-old guided Rajasthan Royals to an emphatic win over Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday in Jaipur. Chasing a daunting target, RR were put under pressure after conceding 220 runs in 20 overs, with Mitchell Marsh top-scoring with 96 off 57 balls for LSG. However, the hosts turned things around in spectacular fashion as Sooryavanshi played a sensational knock, smashing 96 off just 57 balls to take RR home with five balls to spare and seven wickets in hand.
His innings was studded with seven boundaries and ten sixes, underlining his fearless approach. As the Bihar-born youngster dispatched LSG bowlers to all parts of the ground, Ashwin took to X (formerly Twitter) and jokingly described him as an “alien from Area 51,” lauding his extraordinary hitting ability.
“Area 51 has a lot of mystery associated to extra terrestrial existence. Let’s put an end to that debate, there is one super natural person living amongst us earthlings & he opens the batting for Rajasthan Royals and is on duty now at Jaipur. It’s also on Live TV,” wrote Ashwin.

Courtesy of Sooryavanshi’s brilliance, Rajasthan Royals completed the chase in 19.1 overs and climbed to fourth place on the points table.
“Nothing much. I was just thinking because I was sitting outside during the bowling innings and the wicket looked good. I was thinking that today I shouldn’t rush too much at the start, I should take some time and if I bat for a longer period, it’s going to help the batter at the other end as well. (on starting slowly but still reaching fifty quickly) That was the mindset. I know I can hit two or three boundaries or sixes anytime, so I can take a little more time and not rush too much and try to take the game till the end,” said Sooryavanshi during the post-match presentation.
With 14 points from 13 matches, RR remain firmly in contention for a playoff berth and can still reach 16 points to strengthen their chances of progressing to the next stage.

‘We are all good’: Sanju Samson, Heinrich Klaasen share heartfelt posts after fiery on-field exchange | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: A day after tempers flared during the high-voltage IPL 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sanju Samson and Heinrich Klaasen moved quickly to put the controversy to rest with warm social media messages for each other. The two players were involved in a heated on-field exchange during SRH’s successful chase at Chepauk on Monday night, but their posts a day later painted a very different picture.Samson shared a photo with Klaasen on social media and wrote: “Things happen on the field but lots of love and respect to this gem of a person off it.”Klaasen soon responded by reposting the picture with his own message: “Much love and respect for you bud. Always love watching you play. Keep doing your thing. We are all good. Looking forward to our next battle.”The exchange quickly won over fans online, with many praising both cricketers for showing mutual respect despite the emotional confrontation during the game.
Sanju Samson and Heinrich Klaasen’s social media exchanges
What happened during the clash? The incident took place in the 15th over of SRH’s chase when CSK spinner Noor Ahmad dismissed Klaasen with a sharp stumping.Bowling a googly outside off stump, Noor tempted Klaasen into stepping out for an inside-out shot. The ball spun away, beat the outside edge and Samson reacted instantly behind the stumps to whip off the bails before Klaasen could drag his foot back inside the crease.Samson’s lightning-fast work drew comparisons with former CSK captain MS Dhoni. Klaasen, who had looked dangerous with a quickfire 47 off 26 balls featuring six fours and two sixes, appeared visibly frustrated after the dismissal. As he walked back, Klaasen exchanged words with Samson near the pitch and even turned around again while heading towards the dugout. Samson responded as tensions briefly escalated before Shivam Dube, Noor Ahmad and the umpire stepped in to calm both players.Despite Klaasen’s dismissal, SRH completed a five-wicket victory to seal their place in the playoffs alongside Gujarat Titans.

Aston Villa End 30-Year Trophy Wait With Europa League Glory
Aston Villa finally ended their 30-year wait for a major trophy after defeating SC Freiburg 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday night in Istanbul.
Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers secured a famous victory for Unai Emery’s men as the Premier League side lifted their first trophy since winning the League Cup in 1996.
Villa took control of the final late in the first half when Tielemans fired home a powerful volley in the 41st minute after meeting a clever corner delivery from Rogers.
Just before the break, Buendia doubled the advantage with a brilliant curling strike from outside the penalty area after Freiburg failed to close him down.
Rogers completed the victory in the 58th minute, sliding in to convert Buendia’s cross and spark wild celebrations among the Villa supporters inside Besiktas Stadium.
The triumph also marked Villa’s first major European title since their famous European Cup success in 1982, when they defeated Bayern Munich in Rotterdam.
Villa players wore white shirts for the final, similar to the kit used during that historic 1982 victory, with club legends Peter Withe and Dennis Mortimer watching from the stands.
Manager Unai Emery continued his remarkable record in the Europa League by winning the competition for a fifth time. Emery previously lifted the trophy three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal.
The success completed a remarkable turnaround for Villa, who struggled badly at the beginning of the season and went six matches without a win.
Since taking charge in October 2022, Emery has transformed the club from relegation candidates into European champions and Champions League qualifiers.
Villa dominated much of the contest and could have scored earlier before Tielemans finally broke Freiburg’s resistance with his superb finish.
The victory ended years of disappointment for Villa, who had suffered several painful cup defeats in recent seasons before finally enjoying a memorable night in Istanbul.

Travis Kelce shares Taylor Swift’s hilarious reaction to Jerome Bettis
Travis Kelce reveals he’s never fought with fiancée Taylor Swift
Comedian Tom Shillue and National Review columnist Caroline Downey join ‘America’s Newsroom’ to discuss actor George Clooney’s appearance on NFL star Travis Kelce’s podcast, where the two claimed they had never gotten into an argument with their significant others.
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Although Travis Kelce agreed to a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs that will bring him back for a 14th NFL season, much of the recent attention surrounding the star tight end has focused less on football and more on his relationship with Taylor Swift and the couple’s reported wedding plans.
Swift’s ties to football date back years. According to the 14-time Grammy winner, her father, Scott Swift, and Chiefs coach Andy Reid have long shared a friendship. Since beginning her relationship with Kelce, the music superstar has frequently appeared in luxury suites at Kansas City games.
The three-time Super Bowl champion recently revealed his fiancée also made a sharp observation about a legendary Pittsburgh Steelers running back.

On a recent episode of New Heights, the podcast he co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce, Travis shared Swift’s amusing observation that Jerome Bettis looked “like an offensive lineman running with the football.”

Jason’s mention of Bettis’ upcoming golf tournament prompted Travis to share a story about unexpectedly running into the Hall of Famer during a dinner with Swift.
“He is just the best dude ever. I got to run into him at dinner. I was like telling Tay about him like, ‘That dude was a beast.’”
Kelce later showed Swift highlights from Bettis’ Hall of Fame career, which stretched from 1993 to 2005.

“I showed her a Jerome Bettis highlight tape and she was like ‘Why does he look like an offensive lineman running with the football?’ Because he was ‘The Bus,’” Kelce said.
Bettis, a six-time Pro Bowler, was listed at more than 250 pounds for much of his decade-long run with the Steelers, earning him the nickname “The Bus.” He began his career with the Rams, who selected him in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft.
