The Minnesota Vikings drafted nine players during the 2026 NFL draft. Each of those Vikings rookies will go on their own journey, with expectations for a first-round draft pick wildly different from those for a seventh-round pick.
Caleb Banks Headlines Minnesota’s Rookie Outlook
The purpose of this article is to set realistic expectations for each of the non-Vikings rookies that were selected in the draft. Minnesota also hit the undrafted free agent market hard, making 19 signings. Those players won’t be included here, but their aim should be to surprise everyone and make the final roster. We turn our attention now to the draftees.
Pick 18: DI Caleb Banks, Florida Gators
The choice of Caleb Banks has come under criticism and is seen as a sign, largely due to his injury history, which includes a current foot injury. Banks is a risk, but he showcased his talents at the combine despite carrying the foot injury.
He is a good fit in Brian Flores’ defense and if he can stay healthy, he should see plenty of opportunity in his rookie season. Banks’ length and strength give the Vikings a unique presence on the defensive front, allowing them to move across a variety of alignments. A healthy Banks can make an immediate impact in Minnesota.
Pick 51: LB Jake Golday, Cincinnati Bearcats
Minnesota used its second-round pick to add much-needed depth at linebacker. Jake Golday has intriguing length and athleticism with starter potential.
He will have time to develop his weaknesses, such as his instincts and anticipation, with veteran LB Eric Wilson returning this year as the placeholder at the position. Golday should shine on special teams early and look to make his mark when he gets the chance in the rotation on defense.
Pick 82: DI Domonique Orange, Iowa State Cyclones
Selecting another DT with their third pick in the draft, the Vikings seemed to be making this draft about making Flores happy. Domonique Orange is a massive defensive line prospect with elite power potential, supported by impressive weight-room strength.
His first-step explosiveness allows him to generate strong speed-to-power as a bull rusher. Expect Orange on the field on early downs and short yardage. His overall playing time this year may hinge on the health of Banks, but Orange can be a reliable lineman for the Vikings from Day 1.
Pick 97: T Caleb Tiernan, Northwestern Wildcats
The first offensive pick of the draft, being a tackle, was a bit of a surprise. Still, Caleb Tiernan is a smart, balanced, and experienced player whose limitations stem from a naturally high pad level and shorter arm length.
That could see him kick inside to guard, where the Vikings seriously lack depth with Blake Brandel on course to be the new starting center. Tiernan’s technique and football IQ give him a path to a starting role, but early in his career he can cover multiple positions, where his value this season lies.
Pick 98: S Jakobe Thomas, Miami (FL) Hurricanes
Many thought that Minnesota would prioritize the safety position and look for a starter to replace Harrison Smith. Instead, they waited until late on Day 2 to draft Jakobe Thomas.
He offers intriguing size and physicality as an enforcer-type safety, but inconsistency in his play means plenty of development is needed for him to handle more than a rotational role, which is what he will be in his rookie season.
The Vikings selected Max Bredeson as a fullback. He never had a single rushing attempt in his college career. However, he did show he can catch passes. His value is rooted in his blocking ability, highlighted by a career-best 85.2 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus in 2025. The retirement of C.J. Ham has left the Vikings with holes at FB and on special teams that Bredeson should be able to fill.
Pick 163: CB Charles Demmings, Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks
Cornerback was another position the Vikings were expected to look at early by many, but instead, it was a late-round developmental prospect that landed in Minnesota. Charles Demmings drew attention at the Combine with an explosive athletic profile and strong testing numbers.
He measured 6-foot-1 and 194 pounds and ran a 4.41 40-yard dash and posted elite explosiveness with a 42-inch vertical and 11-foot broad jump. His ball skills and tackling efficiency support sleeper potential, though he will require development at the next level. His rookie year will likely be spent in the shadows.
Pick 198: HB Demond Claiborne, Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Demond Claiborne gives the Vikings an interesting third option at running back. With a sprinter’s track background that clearly translates to the field, his speed and acceleration can stress defenses. Claiborne offers solid receiving upside and can be the team’s RB3 with special-teams value.

With Aaron Jones’ recent injury history, he might be thrown in for a bigger workload. If Kevin O’Connell uses him smartly, he can be effective.
Pick 235: C Gavin Gerhardt, Cincinnati Bearcats
Gerhardt brings extensive experience, having played 3,374 career snaps. In 2025, he earned a 68.4 overall grade from PFF with a 75.2 pass-blocking mark and a 66.1 run-blocking grade. He allowed just seven pressures and no sacks across 426 pass-blocking snaps, including only one pressure on 99 true pass sets.
His job is to make sure he’s second in line behind Brandel for the center job, and if the switch for Brandel doesn’t work he might get his chance.

Former Spain and Sevilla FC captain Sergio Ramos is reportedly close to becoming the new owner of his boyhood club in a takeover deal valued at more than €400 million. The proposed acquisition marks one of the biggest ownership moves involving a former footballer in recent years and could signal a major turning point for the struggling LaLiga side.
How the deal was structured

According to reports from Spain, Ramos is the leading public figure in a consortium backed by investment firm Five Eleven Capital. The group entered an exclusive negotiation period with Sevilla’s shareholders in January, allowing them three months to work toward a final agreement.
That exclusivity period now appears to have produced a breakthrough, with reports claiming that an agreement with the club’s shareholders was reached on Tuesday. The overall valuation of the transaction is believed to be as high as €440 million, although Sevilla’s existing financial liabilities and debt are also part of the package.
The consortium has reportedly already presented financial guarantees, but the process is not fully complete yet. The investors must still provide the required capital and final documentation before the takeover can officially move forward.
Ramos’ long history with Sevilla
The proposed takeover carries extra emotional significance because of Ramos’ deep connection with Sevilla. The legendary defender began his youth career at the club before making his senior breakthrough in the early 2000s.

His performances quickly attracted the attention of Real Madrid, who signed him in 2005. Ramos went on to become one of the most successful defenders in football history, winning multiple UEFA Champions League titles, LaLiga trophies, the FIFA World Cup and two European Championships with Spain national football team.
After nearly two decades away, Ramos returned to Sevilla in 2023 for a one-season spell before later joining Mexican club CF Monterrey. Across his two stints, he made more than 60 appearances for the Andalusian club.

What still needs to happen before the takeover is finalised?
Despite the agreement in principle, the deal is still subject to regulatory approval. Both LaLiga and Spain’s National Sports Council must approve the transaction before ownership can officially change hands.

The consortium is also expected to complete the capital transfer process over the coming month.
If approved, Ramos would become the latest former football star to move into club ownership. Former Spain teammate Gerard Piqué previously purchased FC Andorra through his Kosmos group and also helped launch the Kings League competition.

Why the timing matters for Sevilla
The takeover discussions come during a difficult period for Sevilla. Despite winning the UEFA Europa League seven times, most recently in 2023, the club has struggled badly in LaLiga over the past two seasons.

Sevilla currently sit just above the relegation zone with only a few matches remaining in the campaign after narrowly avoiding relegation last season as well.
For many supporters, Ramos’ potential arrival as owner represents not just a business move, but a symbolic return of one of the club’s most iconic figures at a time when stability and rebuilding are desperately needed.
NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings suffered another major setback in their injury-hit IPL 2026 campaign after confirming that all-rounder Jamie Overton will return to the UK to assess a right thigh injury. The England international has been one of CSK’s key performers this season, contributing with both bat and ball. In 10 matches, Overton claimed 14 wickets and scored 136 runs, emerging as a crucial overseas option in a campaign already disrupted by multiple injuries.

Jamie Overton opens up on CSK comeback & bowling role
“Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management,” CSK said in a statement on Wednesday. The update comes at a difficult time for the five-time champions, who are still in the playoff race but continue to lose players at a worrying rate.
Another injury setback for CSK
Overton is the latest addition to a growing list of unavailable players. Earlier on Wednesday, CSK announced the signing of Macneil Noronha as a replacement for injured all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh. The franchise had already lost Ayush Mhatre and Khaleel Ahmed midway through the season, while Australian quick Nathan Ellis has not played at all. Fellow Australian Spencer Johnson has also remained unavailable for large parts of the campaign.Whereas, former captain MS Dhoni has missed the entire season so far due to a calf issue. Hopes of his return rose briefly on Wednesday after reports suggested he was booked to travel with the team to Lucknow, but those hopes faded after he ultimately did not make the trip.CSK have shown resilience despite the setbacks and remain in contention for a playoff spot. But Overton’s departure leaves a fresh hole in their balance, particularly given his impact with the new ball and lower-order hitting. With every match now carrying playoff consequences, CSK’s challenge is no longer just about results — it is about surviving an injury crisis too.
The Hearts stadium announcer takes the opportunity, while he can, to remind supporters that under “no circumstances” should fans enter the pitch at any point this evening. Many situations are at play, of course, including Hearts winning the league tonight…

What do Hearts need to win the league?
After a thrilling title race full of twists or turns, it could all come down to tonight.

If Hearts beat Falkirk at home and Celtic lose away to Motherwell, Hearts will be champions with one game to spare.
Both games kick-off at the same time (8pm BST), so any goals at Tynecastle or Fir Park will filter through to the other team.
Celtic can guarantee the title goes down to the final day as long as they avoid defeat at Motherwell.

Torrential downpour can’t dampen excitement
The pre-match plans of many Hearts supporters have been spoiled by a torrential downpour in Edinburgh, leaving many ducking into the crowded pubs on Gorgie Road for cover. Not that many needed an excuse.
Derek McInnes ‘assuming’ Celtic win tonight to take title race to wire
Hearts boss Derek McInnes said he was “assuming” that Celtic would beat Motherwell tonight to take the title race down to the final day, where Hearts play Celtic on Saturday.
“I’ve had it in my head that we’re going to the last game and I’m prepared for that,” McInnes said. “Listen, there’s no easy games for anybody, nothing’s straightforward.

“Motherwell are a more than capable team, as we saw the other night. They were fully committed against us and I’m sure that’ll be the same again against Celtic.”

Celtic boss Martin O’Neill feeling familiar title race ‘anxiety’
Martin O’Neill saw title races against Rangers go down to the wire during his first spell with Celtic, including a final day shootout in 2005, and the Northern Irishman said he was experiencing some familiar feelings now as the 74-year-old bids to win a fourth league title.

“The anxiety wouldn’t be that much different,” O’Neill said when asked about his first spell in charge more than two decades ago. “And it’s good that I feel this way, because I’ve always felt that.
“I felt this is a player, although the thing I always felt as a player is, you could do something about it. I’ve always felt the same as a manager and then you’re depending on players for your living after that.
“And so the same sort of nervousness, the same sort of excitement, all those type of things still exist with me even at my age.”

And what about Falkirk? Can they spoil the party?
Falkirk have punched well about their weight under John McGlynn this season but have lost two of their three games following the split and their slim hopes of finishing fifth this season and qualifying for Europe now rest on beating Hearts and Rangers in their last two.
“Mathematically it’s not done yet so we just need to go and give a good account of ourselves on Wednesday,” Falkirk forward Calvin Miller said. “I’m sure Tynecastle will be electric considering what they are going for so we really need to roll the sleeves up and get a big performance from ourselves.”

Hope for Hearts? Celtic face a tough test at Motherwell
After their 1-1 draw at Fir Park on Saturday, Hearts need no reminding that Motherwell have been a tough test for any side this season under Jens Berthel Askou.
Motherwell could secure European football with a win tonight, and have beaten Celtic and Rangers this term while drawing against Hearts three times.
“It’s something that has helped us, especially at Ibrox last time, also against Hearts the other day,” Askou said when asked about playing the big teams.
“I am confident that it will also give us an advantage that we have practised that again and again and again when we played the big teams, to really try to be ourselves all the way through.

“I trust the players that they will be able to show their best side, not only technically and physically but also mentally.”

Netflix is finalizing a deal to stream the NFL Honors ceremony in 2027, Front Office Sports reported.
The league’s annual awards event takes place during Super Bowl week and traditionally has aired on NFL Network as well as each year’s Super Bowl rights partner.
Netflix is reportedly “likely” become the ceremony’s exclusive broadcast partner following a ratings report estimate of 3.7 million viewers for the February 2026 primetime broadcast on NBC.
Spokespersons for Netflix and the NFL did not comment on the report.

Netflix continues to expand its relationship with the league. After airing Christmas Day doubleheaders in each of the past two seasons, multiple reports have said the streaming giant has acquired three additional NFL games during the 2026 season.
WWE Superstars have found success in the industry before and after they’ve ended their ties with the Stamford-based promotion. Recently, a female star shared a heartbreaking update, as she’s been forced to take time off from wrestling.
In 2023, Sareee parted ways with the Stamford-based promotion and returned to Japan. The 30-year-old ex-WWE star is thriving in the wrestling scene outside the United States, but tragedy struck, and she’s forced to miss time inside the squared circle.
Thanks for the submission!

It was recently announced, following Sareee’s recent match in Japan, that she’s forced to take time off from in-ring competition. Later, Sareee tweeted on X and provided an update regarding her ongoing neck issues. The 30-year-old star apologized to the fans that she won’t be able to compete for approximately a month.

Sareee made the decision based on the doctor’s advice and decided to take the time off, as she doesn’t want to risk her career. She asked the audience to understand her situation and promised to return so she could continue her in-ring journey.
“As announced, I will be taking approximately one month off for neck maintenance. Having to miss matches that were already scheduled, I am truly sorry for the inconvenience and worry this causes to all the fans and organizations involved. Honestly, it was a decision that took a lot of courage. But I was more afraid of not being able to step into the ring anymore. I made this decision so that I can continue fighting as a professional wrestler from here on out! Please give me just a little time!!” Sareee tweeted on X.
Sareee on her past WWE run
From 2020 to 2023, Sareee was a staple on the developmental brand under Shawn Michaels’ creative leadership. While she started strong on the brand due to her Joshi background, she eventually got a character, which didn’t click with the audience.
She portrayed a schoolgirl gimmick and was part of Chase U for a while, which led her nowhere in her career. In an interview with Tokyo Sports, the 30-year-old star expressed her frustration working in WWE with a poor gimmick. Sareee wasn’t a fan of the gimmick, but went with it as there were fewer opportunities at the time.
Moreover, the gimmick didn’t align with the intention she had for herself as a performer in the company. After months of absence, she parted ways with WWE in 2023 and hasn’t appeared for the company in any capacity.

Stockport head into tonight’s game knowing they are in a strong position, having secured that dramatic late win at Stevenage on Saturday afternoon.
Osborn’s opportunistic toe-poke settled a cagey affair, but the Hatters were the better side and if either deserved to win it was Dave Challinor’s outfit.
It gives them the advantage tonight but also makes the task clear for the visitors, who have to go out and win the game. County won’t want to get caught somewhere between attacking the game and protecting their lead.
Less than 12 months since his retirement, fan-favourite Vasyl Lomachenko is set to make a comeback to boxing as he seeks to re-establish himself as a pound-for-pound star. Now, former rival Devin Haney and potential opponent Shakur Stevenson have reacted to the news.
As one of the most decorated amateur boxers of all time, ‘Loma’ wasted no time in competing at the elite level as a professional, but suffered a split-decision defeat in just his second pro bout – a clash for the vacant WBO featherweight world title.
However, the Ukrainian got his hands on that belt in the ensuing fight and soon established himself as a pound-for-pound talent, becoming a three-division world champion in just 12 fights.
Lomachenko was unable to achieve his dream of becoming an undisputed champion, with a heart-wrenching and somewhat controversial 2023 defeat to Devin Haney denying him that achievement. Then, he bounced back and knocked out George Kambosos to claim the IBF lightweight title in May 2024.
Despite impressing against Kambosos, that performance looked set to be Lomachenko’s last, retiring 13 months later with a record of 21-3 due to a lack of motivation and ongoing back injury.
After almost a year away, it has now been revealed that 38-year-old Lomachenko will make a return to the ring, with Haney and Stevenson amongst the first to welcome him back to the sport.
— Shakur Stevenson (@ShakurStevenson) May 12, 2026
Lomachenko reportedly wants no ‘tune-up’ and says he is ready to jump into a major fight immediately. With Stevenson on the lookout for an opponent, some fans feel as though their long-awaited showdown could be around the corner. Another potential opponent if Gervonta Davis, who was in talks with the Ukrainian before he retired.
As geopolitical tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran continue to dominate headlines, preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 are moving ahead in Arizona, where Iran’s national football team is still expected to set up its tournament base camp.
Iran, also known as Team Melli, is scheduled to stay in Tucson ahead of the World Cup next month, even as uncertainty remains around the broader political and security situation involving the country.

Tucson preparing to host Team Melli
The city of Tucson in Arizona has been officially designated as Iran’s training base during the tournament. The team is expected to use the Kino Sports Complex as its primary facility before travelling to Los Angeles and Seattle for group-stage matches.
According to Kino Sports Complex director Sarah Hanna, preparations have continued without interruption despite rising tensions between the two nations.
“We’re just excited to host them here, and we’re going to give them a positive experience,” Hanna told AFP.
Ground staff are reportedly maintaining FIFA-standard conditions, including carefully managing the grass height and overall pitch quality. Security arrangements, accommodation bookings and operational planning are also being finalised well in advance of the tournament.
“Right now, I’m probably averaging about 12 to 20 meetings regarding this training facility a week,” Hanna said. “From our concessionaire for food and beverage … to lots of grounds meetings with FIFA coming out to check.” he added.
Political tensions continue in the background
Advertisement
The preparations come during a prolonged military and diplomatic standoff involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Although a ceasefire has technically been in place for weeks, tensions remain unresolved amid naval restrictions, sanctions and regional instability.
Despite speculation regarding Iran’s participation, FIFA has maintained that the team will compete in the World Cup as scheduled.
“As far as we’re concerned, it’s 100 percent on, and it’s never been off,” Hanna said. “Since they’ve been identified as the team, we’ve been moving forward as them as our team until we hear something different from FIFA.”
Iran’s football federation has also publicly stated that the national team intends to participate, while reportedly seeking assurances related to visas, staff treatment and security arrangements.

Trump comments sparked debate
Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump raised concerns over Iran’s participation by questioning whether it would be safe for the players to travel to the United States.
“I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
However, locals in Tucson and members of the football community have largely rejected the idea that the Iranian squad would face hostility.
Jon Pearlman, president of FC Tucson, insisted the city would welcome the team. “I don’t think President Trump or any part of our government will make it their business to make them feel unwelcome or unsafe,” Pearlman said. “I think it will do the opposite.”
Football community backs Iran’s participation

Tucson’s sporting community has continued to emphasise football’s role in bringing people together during periods of political conflict.
At the Kino Sports Complex, Iran’s players are expected to have access to gym facilities, recovery areas, massage rooms and training equipment throughout the tournament.
“We welcome them with open arms,” Pearlman said. “We are part of the world soccer community. We are part of what FIFA is trying to do, and we believe the game is something that brings nations together, not drives them apart.” he added.
Residents of Tucson also echoed similar views regarding the team’s arrival. “I hope that they still feel welcome here,” local football player Rob McLane said. “Even though we’re doing what we’re doing, which is ridiculous.”

Iran are expected to arrive in Tucson roughly two weeks before their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 fixture.

Egyptian giants Ismaily SC have been officially relegated to the Egyptian second division for the first time in their 68-year history.
The historic club from the city of Ismailia suffered a 2-1 defeat to Wadi Degla on Wednesday night, confirming their relegation after a disappointing campaign.
The result marks one of the darkest moments in the history of Egyptian football, with Ismaily, one of the country’s most respected clubs, unable to avoid the drop despite their rich pedigree.

Founded in 1924, Ismaily are widely regarded as one of the traditional powerhouses of Egyptian football and remain the first North African club to win the prestigious CAF Champions League, achieving the feat in 1969.
Their relegation has sparked emotional reactions among supporters and football followers across Africa, bringing an end to the club’s long stay in the Egyptian top flight.
