MANILA, Philippines–Two rookie Filipino pairs made the most of their international debuts, capturing gold and bronze in the youth mixed pairs event of the 10th Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships on Thursday at Tagaytay CT Velodrome.

Palarong Pambansa standouts Rhimel Daniel Cabides and Antonette Amante topped the event with 17.80 points, while General Santos natives Rhys Enoch Balmayor and John Mikaela Ladaran claimed the bronze with 17.150.

“We proved that we can compete internationally,” said Amante, a triple Palarong Pambansa gold medalist. “It’s a great feeling to hear the Philippine national anthem.”

Ladaran, 11, said the result exceeded their expectations.

“This is all too surreal. We really didn’t expect it. It was only a dream,” she said.

Coach and former national team member Carlo Joshua Tangonan credited the athletes for overcoming a challenging buildup.

“I’m very proud of both pairs. The journey and training weren’t easy for these kids, so I’m very happy with the result,” Tangonan, who won mixed pairs bronze with Charmaine Dolar at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

Competing first among six finalists, Cabides and Amante ruled the event based on the combined scores for difficulty, execution and artistry.

Vietnam’s Ann Thinh Tran and Ngoc Gia Nguyen matched the Filipinos’ total but settled for silver after receiving a lower execution score, 7.450 to the Philippine pair’s 7.500.

It’s hard to believe someone as legendary as Adam Copeland has never competed in an iconic venue like Arena México, but on Wednesday night he will get his first opportunity.

Copeland will be a part of an eight-man tag team match at All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Grand Slam: Mexico event on Wednesday night. Copeland and his tag team partner Christian Cage (AEW’s tag team champions) will team with Matt and Nick Jackson to take on Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, Pac and Wheeler Yuta.

Copeland reflected on the chance to compete at the iconic Mexico City venue in a post on Instagram.

“Tonight I get to perform for the first time in The Wrestling Cathedral,” he wrote in the post. “Arena Mexico. The last time I had a match in Mexico was 2008. Mexico we got some catching up to do! I love Lucha Libre. Everything about it. The masks, the mystique, the pageantry. Can’t wait to get out there. See ya soon Mexico, bring your voices.”

Copeland previously wrote down a list of venues he wanted to perform in. Arena México was at the top of the list along with Wembley Stadium in London, Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto and the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

He will likely get to check off Wembley Stadium from his list when AEW holds its premier pay-per-view of the year, All In, at the venue later this month.

MANILA, Philippines–Barangay Ginebra is mourning the loss of Ian Calilan, one of the longest-serving members of its utility staff.

Calilan died at the age of 51 on Wednesday due to a lingering illness, though it had not prevented him from performing his role with the Gin Kings.

In fact, Calilan was present during Sunday’s PBA Governors’ Cup game between Ginebra and Magnolia at Smart Araneta Coliseum, and appeared to be in good spirits.

He is the son of Cris Calilan, a player of Jose Rizal College’s NCAA championship team in 1972 and Crispa’s first PBA Grand Slam in 1976, and coach of Ateneo’s first UAAP title in 1987.

The younger Calilan had been with Ginebra dating back to the early post-Jaworski championship years bannered by Mark Caguioa, Jayjay Helterbrand and Eric Menk.

Fellow members of Ginebra’s utility staff and others around the league remembered Calilan for his friendly personality and his knack for telling funny stories.

Calilan also got to play with Ginebra coaches and utility during the Raffy Japa Cup in 2024.

During the surprise song portion of the encore, BTS performed Paradise and No More Dream. Now several fans are debating whether Love Maze is next on the list.

In his ending ment, Jimin spoke about his middle school days. He recalled thinking that ranking first in his school would lead him to Harvard, then noted that he had not actually achieved that ranking. He went on to express regret that the group had taken so long to reach the Boston area.

He also said that if the members had known the audience would welcome them with such strong support, sing along to the songs, and offer such warm smiles, they would have visited much earlier. Separately, at the preceding MetLife Stadium shows in East Rutherford, camera operators captured extended close footage of Jimin during moments when he appeared affected by the heat and humidity on the outdoor stage. He repeatedly directed the camera away. This incident has caused fury among fans.
