The one franchise that Hollywood refuses to leave alone and has tried every trick in the book to make work, is Terminator. Created by James Cameron decades ago, the franchise has seen it all over the years. At its peak, it had expanded across different media. However, the most recent theatrical films both fell short of expectations; one was a critical flop, and the other was a commercial bomb. With the rights to the series currently in the hands of David Ellison, it remains to be seen where he’ll take it next, especially with the Warner Bros. merger in the works. In 2019, Ellison’s Skydance worked with Cameron on a new reboot, Terminator: Dark Fate, which underperformed commercially and led to star Arnold Schwarzenegger seemingly admitting defeat. The star had previously criticized the writing of the franchise’s 2015 reboot, which is currently streaming for free in the United States.
The 2015 movie was marketed as a major return for Schwarzenegger, who wasn’t involved with the 2009 film Terminator Salvation. Directed by Alan Taylor, the 2015 reboot had a production so difficult that the crew of the doomed Fantastic Four movie being shot at the same time distributed sweatshirts that read, “At least we’re not on Terminator.” The experience of making the movie robbed Taylor of the will to continue working in the industry, while star Emilia Clarke said in an interview that the cancellation of the sequels was probably for the best.
By now you’ve probably guessed that we’re talking about Terminator Genisys, which also features Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, and Matt Smith. Produced on a reported budget of more than $155 million, the movie grossed $440 million worldwide — it remains the franchise’s second-highest-grossing installment. However, the reviews were toxic. The movie is now sitting at a 26% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, “Mired in its muddled mythology, Terminator Genisys is a lurching retread that lacks the thematic depth, conceptual intelligence, or visual thrills that launched this once-mighty franchise.” In a later interview, Schwarzenegger said, “The franchise is not done. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear.” He said that while the first three installments were “great,” the fifth and sixth movies were “not well written.” Terminator Genisys is currently streaming for free on Pluto TV. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

It’s hard to reinvent and transform one genre, let alone two. But that’s exactly what Ridley Scott managed to do almost fifty years ago when he cross-bred the haunted house trope with a creature feature, stuck it in space and, in the process, introduced terrified audiences to one of cinema’s most terrifying creatures in the process. Five decades later, it still scares the life out of everyone.
Now, Alien has found yet another generation of potential victims. Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece officially joined Netflix in the United States on September 1 as part of the streamer’s major monthly catalog refresh, alongside its equally acclaimed sequel, Aliens. Alien follows the seven-person crew of the commercial spaceship Nostromo after they are awakened from stasis to investigate what appears to be a distress signal originating from a nearby moon. So far, so good, but then the discovery of a derelict spacecraft quickly turns disastrous when one crew member encounters an unknown organism, unknowingly bringing a lethal extraterrestrial lifeform aboard the Nostromo. You know what that lifeform is. It’s the most iconic alien in the history of cinema; it’s the xenomorph.
The cast is led by Sigourney Weaver (Avatar) as Ellen Ripley, alongside Tom Skerritt (Top Gun) as Dallas, Veronica Cartwright (The Birds) as Lambert, Harry Dean Stanton (Paris, Texas) as Brett, John Hurt (The Elephant Man) as Kane, Ian Holm (The Lord of the Rings) as Ash, and Yaphet Kotto (Live and Let Die) as Parker, with Bolaji Badejo portraying the Alien.
Nearly five decades after its release, Alien remains one of the most acclaimed science-fiction and horror movies ever made. It currently holds a 93% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus praising the movie’s combination of science fiction, horror, and bleak atmosphere, and its reputation has only grown with time, while the movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2002 for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
At the box office, it was also a massive success, earning more than $106 million worldwide against a reported $11 million production budget. It won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and received another nomination for Best Art Direction, while Weaver’s Ellen Ripley went on to become one of the most iconic heroes in science-fiction history.
Alien is streaming now on Netflix.

In the world of crime dramas, very few have had the impact of The Sopranos. The late, great Michael Gandolfini plays Tony Soprano, a crime boss struggling to keep his empire and his family intact. Gandolfini’s performance peeled back Tony’s layers, revealing that beneath his tough-guy bravado is a front for dealing with deep depression. The Sopranos made HBO a pillar of primetime television and helped pave the way for other complex antiheroes like Mad Men‘s Don Draper and Breaking Bad‘s Walter White. However, a modern crime series features a protagonist who’s more Machiavellian than Tony could ever hope to be.
That series is Godfather of Harlem, currently streaming on Hulu. Godfather of Harlem is based on the real-life exploits of gangster Bumpy Johnson, who’s played by Forest Whitaker. After a decade in prison, Johnson returns to Harlem, New York, to discover that the neighborhood’s in the grip of the Italian mob. Johnson battles the mob to take back Harlem, using unconventional alliances and underhanded deals to win. The end result is a gripping crime drama that fans of The Sopranos should definitely add to their watchlists.
From the very beginning, it’s clear that Godfather of Harlem intends to establish Bumpy Johnson as a man who’s willing to do anything to stay on top. The series premiere, “By Whatever Means Necessary,” establishes this with a scene where Johnson tracks down a man who wounded one of his associates and slowly kills him. It’s one of many instances where Forest Whitaker blends menace and thoughtfulness, making Johnson a truly dangerous character. Compared to Tony Soprano, who routinely struggled with his duties to his family and his empire, Johnson dispatches anyone who gets in his way. Whitaker made a career out of playing morally gray figures, but Godfather of Harlem might be one of his best performances.
Godfather of Harlem also boasts a stacked ensemble full of familiar faces. Johnson’s main rival, Vincent “The Chin” Gigante, is brought to life by Vincent D’Onofrio; fans of D’Onofrio’s performance as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil will be pleased to know that he brings the same level of darkness to Gigante. Giancarlo Esposito also shows up, playing the politician Adam Clayton Powell Jr., who’s often willing to bend or outright break the law to rise up in the ranks. There’s even an appearance from Severance‘s Tramell Tillman in Season 1! The fact that this cast can hold its own against Whitaker and bring historical figures to life is one of many reasons Godfather of Harlem is a standout.
Godfather of Harlem has four seasons under its belt and has earned critical acclaim along the way. That run is set to end, as MGM+ announced in July that the series would wrap up with a two-hour finale set to air sometime in 2027. Forest Whitaker released a statement following this announcement, in which he expressed his gratitude for being able to bring Bumpy Johnson to life.
“Playing Bumpy Johnson has been one of the greatest experiences of my career. This character, this story, and this ensemble have allowed me to explore the complexity of a man caught between ambition, loyalty, and survival. I’m grateful to Michael Wright and MGM+, Chris Brancato, 20th Television, Amazon, the entire creative team, and our extraordinary cast, for five seasons of exceptional collaboration.”
Though Godfather of Harlem might be coming to an end, creators Chris Brancato and Michael Panes aren’t leaving MGM+ or the world of crime dramas behind. The duo recently launched The Westies, which features many of the hallmarks that defined Godfather of Harlem. It’s a period piece anchored by strong performances from J.K. Simmons and Titus Welliver, and Brancanto even admitted the series began as a storyline for Godfather of Harlem before spinning off into a separate project. The Sopranos might have defined crime television, but Godfather of Harlem has elevated it.

Amanda Seyfried has officially placed her Los Angeles home on the market as she prepares to move to her New York farm full-time.
The “Mean Girls” actress previously shared that she was leaving Hollywood for a “more balanced life” on her upstate farm, far from the hustle and bustle of L.A.
She also offered a glimpse into her strong support system, saying she couldn’t take all the credit for her recent success because her husband, Thomas Sadoski, has been by her side.
Amanda Seyfried is officially preparing to leave the West Coast behind after placing her L.A. home on the market for $3.195 million.
The “Mamma Mia!” actress originally purchased the property in 2011 for $1.85 million from her “Jennifer’s Body” co-star, Adam Brody, and has called it home for the last 15 years.
Tucked away near Runyon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills, the 2,738-square-foot home features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a swimming pool and a spa, among other luxury amenities.
It also includes a detached garage that Seyfried converted into a home gym, along with beautifully landscaped gardens and a sunroom.

The proposed sale signals Seyfried’s resolve to leave Los Angeles behind.
For several years, the Oscar-nominated actress has made a rural 1930s farm in upstate New York her primary home alongside her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski, and their two children.
She has often spoken about how rural life and caring for her collection of rescue animals — including goats, chickens, horses and peacocks — have given her a more stable balance than Hollywood, which comes with so much pressure.
Seyfried bought the farm in 2013 and has opened up about how the setting has afforded her a much calmer life, helping mitigate the effects of her anxiety and OCD symptoms.

In a 2024 interview with Forbes, she explained that she moved from L.A. to New York for a “more balanced life,” calling it the best decision she had made for her mental health.
“I moved upstate long before I had a family,” she said at the time. “Staying here was the best decision for privacy, peace and nature.”
“It offers a more balanced life than the city does,” she continued, adding that the move was “essential for my mental health.”
The “In Time” actress also told the outlet that staying there allowed her to manage “the high-energy of press events and life on-set” while working in Hollywood.

Despite their busy Hollywood schedules, Seyfried and Sadoski have remained active parents to their two children, daughter Nina and son Thomas Jr.
The couple first met in 2015 while starring in an off-Broadway play before starring alongside each other in “The Last Words,” where their on-screen romance turned real.
During a previous appearance on the YouTube series “Molner’s Table” with host John Molner, she discussed what life on the farm looks like with Sadoski and their children.
“These days, it’s been me waking up and going downstairs and drinking coffee and hanging out with my daughter and then Tommy feeding [the animals]. And you know what? Our family’s still together,” she said, per PEOPLE.

She also shared that her mom, Ann, stays with them and helps raise their children, adding that her presence has helped Seyfried balance her Hollywood career with parenting.
“She’s our nanny,” she said. “My life is awesome because she is the third parent for us. I am so lucky — I know I am.”
“So when my daughter gets up, she either comes in our room or she goes downstairs,” she added. “And if we’re still sleeping, it’s great, ’cause she can hang out with my mom. She wakes up early.”
Earlier this year, she also heaped praise on her husband for his support both on and off the screen.
“We should [nominate him for Husband of the Year],” she told E! News. “He really is a sweetheart.”

Katie Holmes may have just found the happy medium between jeans and dress pants. Her latest denim choice had the relaxed, cool-girl feel she’s known for, but the pleated waist and flowy legs made them look noticeably more polished than your average pair. Even better, the silhouette has a few sneaky flattering details that make it especially appealing for women over 40.
Holmes was spotted out in New York City wearing baggy, pleated blue jeans with a sweet gingham top, crisp white sneakers and oversized shades. While we don’t know her exact pair, we found a strikingly similar style on Amazon for just $37. It’s an easy way to copy her transitional look without overhauling your entire fall wardrobe.

The Cicy Bell Wide-Leg Jeans combine the casual feel of denim with the dressed-up shape of trousers. They feature a high-rise waist, front pleats and loose, wide legs, plus they come in a dark wash that looks especially close to Holmes’ pair. They also come in black, light-wash, leopard and other options if you want to switch things up.
Those pleats aren’t just there to look pretty, either. They help define the waist before flowing into a roomy leg, creating a long, streamlined shape without anything feeling tight or restrictive.
Shoppers are fans of the softer feel, too. One reviewer said the jeans made a “huge difference in comfort” because the “denim is softer” and has “more movement to it than traditional heavy jeans.” Another buyer said the fit “works well for a variety of body types,” adding that the wide-leg design “creates a flattering, leg-lengthening effect.”
Consider these the jeans to reach for when it’s too warm for full-on fall dressing, but you’re officially over your summer wardrobe. Wear them with a breezy blouse and sneakers now, then add a sweater and boots once temperatures drop. Holmes’ trouser-jeans formula might just make the seasonal switch a whole lot easier.

Shania Twain is mourning Dolly Parton while reflecting on how the late country music icon influenced her life both onstage and away from the spotlight. Twain praised Parton for remaining loyal to her vision throughout her legendary career and empowering other women to follow their own paths without apologizing.
The emotional tribute comes weeks after Parton died at age 80 following a brief battle with cancer. Although the “Jolene” singer kept her diagnosis private, her team revealed that she continued developing new projects until her final days.

While promoting her collaboration with Candy Crush’s new Music Season, Twain spoke to Us Weekly about the qualities she admired most in Parton. “She is the ultimate example of being true to oneself in every way,” Twain said. “She never abandoned her vision of things and her perspective on things and always fulfilled them all unapologetically and so courageously.”
She added, “I always admired that so much in her, and it’s empowered me a lot in my own life and in my career, but also in my personal life.”
Parton’s influence reached far beyond her distinctive voice and songwriting ability. Her carefully cultivated image, business decisions, and commitment to her Tennessee roots helped her build a career that lasted seven decades. For Twain, that confidence made Parton an example of how an artist could evolve without abandoning the qualities that initially made her unique.

Parton died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 25, according to an official announcement shared by her representatives. Her team said she had faced a brief battle with cancer but did not disclose the specific type.
Twain said Parton’s presence is already deeply missed. “Dolly’s going to be very missed because we can never get enough of Dolly, and we didn’t get enough of Dolly,” Twain said. “She’s a big loss and she’s on my mind.”
Parton’s death prompted tributes throughout the entertainment industry, including performances honoring her music from artists such as Brad Paisley and Kacey Musgraves.
Her family requested a small private service for immediate relatives. Fans were encouraged to honor Parton by supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the childhood literacy program she founded in 1995. According to Parton’s official website, the program has distributed more than 300 million free books to children around the world.

Twain also reflected on the number of artists who have reinterpreted Parton’s music across different genres and generations. “‘Jolene’ has been rerecorded so many times now in so many different ways, and in the end, she is still this magical songwriter who inspires others to reimagine and to redo their own take on her music,” Twain explained. “It’s only a flattering thing.”
Originally released in 1973, “Jolene” became one of Parton’s signature songs and has since been covered by numerous artists. Parton also wrote “I Will Always Love You,” which Whitney Houston transformed into a global hit after recording it for “The Bodyguard.”

Twain is now experiencing a similar form of musical reinvention. The country singer partnered with DJ and producer Zedd to create a new version of “You’re Still the One” for Candy Crush’s 2026 Music Season. The collaboration gives the love song a dance-oriented sound while retaining Twain’s original vocals. The project also includes a colorful interactive music video set in “Candy Country,” a Western-inspired fantasy world filled with rhinestones, shimmering saloons and hidden clues.
Candy Crush announced that the Music Season event would run in the game through October 5, 2026. Players can also search the video for codes connected to prizes, including opportunities to meet Twain or Zedd on tour.
Twain said the new production gives the familiar song another opportunity to reach listeners. “I think it’s just a whole new, wonderful energy to the song, and it just gives a second life to something that we already know and has been in our lives for so many years now,” she said. “It’s like hitting the refresh button on something. It’s fabulous.”
“You’re Still the One” appeared on Twain’s 1997 album “Come On Over” and became one of the biggest hits of her career.

The Zedd collaboration is part of a busy creative period for Twain. She released her seventh studio album, “Little Miss Twain,” in July. The project features collaborations with Tanya Tucker, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and musical duo The War and Treaty.
Twain said working with artists from different generations helps keep her creativity moving forward. “Being around people that are doing things you may never have thought of [or] doing things in a different way you may never have considered, like Zedd’s doing,” she told Us Weekly.

Parton’s death did not bring an immediate end to her creative work. Her team revealed that she had continued working until the day she died, including helping develop “DOLLY: A True Original Musical.” The autobiographical production, featuring music and lyrics by Parton, is scheduled to premiere on Broadway in December 2026.
Parton had also recorded a song that remains sealed inside a time capsule at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort. The track is scheduled to be released in 2045, on the resort’s 30th anniversary. Her longtime manager, Danny Nozell, said Parton’s team has a plan for continuing her unfinished and future projects.
“She loved seeing her dreams come to life, and loved knowing her work brought people joy,” Nozell said. “Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come.”
Even after her death, Parton’s work will continue reaching audiences, inspiring reinterpretations and encouraging other artists to trust their own visions.
This week, Alan Ritchson debuted his second theatrical release of the year, Runner. Also starring Owen Wilson, the movie grossed around $6 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office, which is around three times higher than what his other 2026 release, Motor City, made in its first weekend. Ritchson will also return as Jack Reacher for the fourth season finale of Prime Video’s blockbuster series this week; the finale coincides with the launch of its first spin-off. It has been a major year for the action star, who got things started with the record-breaking sci-fi thriller War Machine, which eventually became one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies ever.
This season of Reacher continued the show’s remarkable streak of critical success. Not only is Reacher one of Prime Video’s most popular titles, but it is also among the best-reviewed shows of its era. It holds an overall score of 95% on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 4 having settled at a “Certified Fresh” 94% score. The aggregator’s consensus for the fourth season reads, “Reacher maintains its formula for maximum entertainment, serving more brawn, enough narrative brains, and always the right amount of Alan Ritchson to keep the operation up and running for seasons to come.” Runner, Ritchson’s recent theatrical release, debuted with an excellent A- grade on CinemaScore and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, reinforcing the actor’s popularity among his fanbase.
Reacher has already been renewed for a fifth season, which will likely debut in 2027, given the yearly release strategy that Prime Video seems to have settled into. But first, Ritchson will reprise his role as a guest star in the spin-off Neagley. Centered on the titular character played by Maria Sten, the show premieres on Prime Video on the same day as the Reacher Season 4 finale. It’ll compete with the sixth season of Apple TV’s Slow Horses, the second season of Paramount+’s MobLand, and Netflix’s Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. You can watch the Reacher finale and the entirety of Neagley on September 16, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

Durk paired the message with a photo of his legal team, including attorneys Brian Steel and Drew Findling, who have represented high-profile hip-hop figures throughout their careers. Lioness star Dave Annable would love nothing more than to appear on Dutton Ranch — despite being killed off on Yellowstone.
“I’m such a huge fan of [Taylor Sheridan’s] Landman and I love that they just put [my costar] Michael Kelly in Landman. I don’t want to say I’m jealous but maybe I go on as his brother or maybe his uncle,” Annable, 46, exclusively told Us. “And then I gotta be honest, [I would love to join] Dutton Ranch.”
Annable reflected on his time playing Lee Dutton, adding, “I’m such a Yellowstone guy. I really learned so much and really learned to love and appreciate that world and being in Montana.”
He continued: “Basically, I’m not going to say no to anything. If Taylor is like, ‘Dave, we’re just going to put you on one episode and kill you off on Tulsa King.’ Great, I can’t wait. I’m a fan of Taylor’s as a person, as a man and as a writer. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do in that man’s universe.”
Sheridan, 56, built his TV empire starting with Yellowstone. The hit series aired from 2018 to 2024 as viewers tuned in to keep tabs on the fictional Dutton family. Sheridan branched out with original shows such as Landman, Tulsa King and Lioness.
Lioness, which airs Sundays, is a spy thriller that follows the leader of a CIA team that enlists female operatives — known as Lionesses — to go undercover in the war on terror.

The first two seasons followed Joe (Zoe Saldaña) as she recruited Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira) and Josie (Genesis Rodriguez) to go undercover. A season 2 mission put the team at risk and nearly ended in a group sacrifice. Season 3 raised the stakes even higher while jumping back and forth from the past to the present.
Annable, for his part, plays Saldaña’s onscreen husband, Neal.
“She really is that good. You watch the show and see her not only as the wife and mother but as the senior case officer in combat and being tortured. She’s just crushing it and it couldn’t happen to a better person,” he gushed to Us. “My family, we all love Zoe and we love her family, and she loves us. It’s really been this beautiful dance getting to stand across from her over these seasons.”
In season 3, Joe and Neal have found themselves struggling in their marriage due to her job, with Annable adding, “Obviously with the war coming home, it really made it very real for Neal. The real deal. He [is] now faced with his kids’ lives in danger, his life in danger and witnessing firsthand that his wife’s life is in danger.”
He continued: “Obviously that’s going to elevate any of the stakes that were there in previous seasons — or previously in their marriage. This is a whole different ball game and then with her being abducted in the present timeline, I’m not quite sure there’s anything worse. Especially the not knowing if she’s OK or not. Over these seasons, we witnessed Neal’s patience and support slowly turn into fear and and maybe putting other priorities first instead of his wife’s now.”
Lioness airs new episodes Sundays on Paramount+.
