New X-Men ‘97 Trailer Promises More Of The Best Superhero Show

By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

It’s an open secret that the MCU has been very hit or miss for a few years now. There has been the occasional banger like Deadpool & Wolverine, but there have also been stinkers like Eternals. Even movies that seemed like safe, summer blockbusters (like The Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four) couldn’t withstand the might of James Gunn’s Superman. Amid all this disappointment, though, one of the biggest Marvel hits had nothing to do with the MCU. X-Men ‘97 was a breakout hit, pleasing older fans of the original X-Men: The Animated Series while pleasing younger fans who just wanted to see mutants kicking butt and taking names.

Recently, Marvel released the first trailer for X-Men ‘97 Season 2 along with a release date: July 1. The trailer does an excellent job of teasing what fans can expect, including a plot that spans millennia and the surprising motivation of Apocalypse, this season’s Big Bad. We also get plenty of cool action sequences and even glimpses of beloved characters, including everyone’s favorite Merc With a Mouth. Ready to scope out the trailer and dive right into our analysis of why Season 2 is going to be even bigger and badder than Season 1? Don’t worry, bub: we’ve got you covered!

An Uncanny Trailer

So, what actually happens in this trailer? A little bit of everything, really. It begins with Rogue remembering Gambit, her fearless Cajun lover who died during what was arguably Season 1’s most jaw-dropping moment. An unknown man provides Rogue with evidence seemingly proving Gambit is alive, and you likely won’t have to wait very long to see him. The ending of Season 1 highly implied that, as in the comics, the dead Gambit would be coming back as one of the Horsemen of Apocalypse.

Speaking of Apocalypse, Bishop clarifies exactly what has happened to the team. According to him, “the X-men are scattered through time. In the past, from the start of Apocalypse’s reign, to the future, at the height of his rule.” Later, we see him teaming up with Forge and vowing to do his best to bring the team into the present day. This may (wittingly or unwittingly) be a way of foiling Apocalypse’s plans. At one point in the trailer, he vows, “I must strike them at their most vulnerable … the 1990s.”

X-Men '97 Season 2 Trailer

Cable seems to be his usual pessimistic self about the team’s chances, telling the X-Men, “You fight a battle that cannot be won. Against the dawn of an age that cannot be stopped.” Beyond this, the trailer is mostly cool Easter eggs (more on that soon) and fun action sequences. The latter includes Jean Grey manifesting some psychic Wolverine claws for Cyclops to bounce his optic blasts off of, Morph changing into Deadpool to fight some Brood, and glimpses of exotic locations such as the Savage Land. Fittingly enough, the ultra-popular Wolverine gets the final tagline of the trailer: “we’re back, baby!”

What Are The Coolest Easter Eggs?

While the X-Men ‘97 Season 2 trailer clocks in at a little under two minutes, it goes through more Easter eggs in that time than Wolverine goes through cigars in a year. Let’s start with the costumes. While this may or may not be related to the season’s time-travel shenanigans, we see plenty of outfits from different eras of the comics. A little over 30 seconds in, for example, and we see Cyclops and Jean Grey wearing costumes from the early days of X-Factor. Later (possibly much later, given her longer hair), Jean and Cyclops are wearing the black and yellow costumes from Grant Morrison’s seminal New X-Men comics.

X-Men '97 Season 2 Trailer

Other characters appear in those uniforms, including a mysterious character who may or may not be Xorn. Speaking of vintage characters, we see several heroes from the popular Generation X comic. There’s also a quick glimpse of Quentin Quire, wearing his iconic “Magneto was right” t-shirt. We briefly see Emma Frost as well as Cerebra, the sentient version of the mutant-finding Cerebro. There’s also one point of interest that’s less of an Easter egg and more of a mystery: a giant X-Men uniform draped over a tree, implying that it was worn by someone who is naturally huge or that can change shape, like Ant-Man turning into Giant Man.

What Comic Stories Are Getting Adapted?

One of the coolest parts of X-Men ‘97 Season 1 was that it wove several familiar comic book storylines into an otherwise original tale. What classic comics stories can we expect to see in Season 2? Based on this trailer showing Jean Grey and Cyclops in a dystopian future, it looks like we’re definitely getting a version of the Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix miniseries. While it’s not as conclusive, the fact that some X-Men are in Egypt during “the start of Apocalypse’s reign” may mean that we are getting an adaptation of Rise of Apocalypse, the miniseries where Apocalypse gets his powers and begins his whole “survival of the fittest” thing.

X-Men '97 Season 2 Trailer

The biggest surprise is that, based on some cave etchings of various X-Men and some mystery character rising into the sky, we are getting an adaptation of “The Twelve.” This was a storyline where a weakened Apocalypse had captured twelve very specific mutants, intending to absorb all their powers and become unstoppable. Notably, this was the comic where Apocalypse made Wolverine a horseman and gave him his adamantium back, which restored him to normal (more or less) after he got all the metal ripped out of his body by Magneto (a comic event replicated in X-Men ‘97 Season 1).

Streaming For A World That Fears And Hates Them

X-Men ‘97 Season 2 will begin streaming on Disney+ on July 1. Based on this trailer, we’re getting something even bigger and more ambitious than Season 1 that will satisfy fans who have been waiting a long time for more of this awesome show. Incidentally, you won’t have to wait this long in the future. Disney confirmed that they have already completed Season 3 and begun work on Season 4, allowing them to release a new season each year for the next couple of years.

That’s right, fellow geeks, the dream of the ‘90s is alive on streaming. And regardless of how bad the MCU has gotten and whether Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars flop, we now have a reason to utter the classic comic phrase that has always meant the world to everyone who didn’t get out much in high school: “make mine Marvel!”

Days of our Lives: Marlena Hypnotizes Cat – Explosive Hidden Memories Revealed!

Published

on

Days of Our Lives reveals that Cat Green (AnnaLynne McCord) - Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall)

Days of Our Lives reveals that Cat Green (AnnaLynne McCord) has been worried about secrets from her past coming back to bite her. And so, she might go see Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) for a hypnosis session to remember what she forgot about her time in Italy with EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel).

So, we’re going to talk about whether Cat really will go get hypnotized by Marlena and if so, what shocking memories will be revealed? EJ certainly wants to know what happened between them in Italy.

Cat Considers Getting Hypnotized on Days of Our Lives

So, Cat was really worried about what EJ might remember from the hospital in Italy. And she was relieved when Marlena’s hypnosis really didn’t turn up much of anything. And then EJ told Cat that he was unconscious so much of that time that Marlena thinks his mind wasn’t recording memories.

So, EJ told Cat he thinks she may have an easier time retrieving memories under hypnosis. And already when EJ asked right away, Cat agreed to go let Marlena hypnotize her. But will Cat follow through? Will she really do it? And if she does, will she tell EJ what memories were uncovered?

Cat, as you know, is a financial analyst. She works for Shane Donovan (Charles Shaughnessy) at the ISA. She’s been looking into EJ’s shady dealings with the hospital and the lab. Cat’s been working with FBI guy Rafe Hernandez (Galen Herring), but they didn’t find a whole lot of evidence against EJ, and the main thing they have right now is what everybody knows, that Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford) was the pod person, and she’s back from the dead. They know that Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) was conspiring with EJ, but they can’t find Rolf to arrest him.

Rolf’s Evil Move on Days of our Lives

And the one criminal charge they have on him is that he left Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) and Jeremy Horton (Michael Roark) in wicked Owen Kent’s (Wes Ramsey) hands. And there’s nothing to tie EJ to Stephanie and Jeremy’s kidnapping. They never saw him. And Owen was very clear in his police testimony that he was working for Dr. Rolf and he never saw EJ. All true.

So, at this point, I don’t even know what Rafe, Cat and Shane think they are going to accomplish because Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) was financing the secret lab. It wasn’t like EJ was stealing money to pay for it. And the hospital board and the FDA have some questions for him. But with Dr. Rolf MIA, I’m betting EJ is going to get away with it.

And as of now, he worked a miracle for Lexie. He didn’t hurt anybody that they know of. So, I feel like this ISA thing is going nowhere. But EJ and Cat might be going somewhere, especially if EJ gets his way because there’s definitely a connection between Cat and EJ that neither of them knew about.

EJ And Cat’s History in Italy

Cat and EJ were close during their convalescence in Italy, but they don’t remember much beyond Cat reading the classic love story Wuthering Heights to EJ. And this has been honestly going on way too long. I think we can all agree on that. EJ and Cat independently bought copies of Wuthering Heights and then henceforth started emerging.

Do you remember when that was? I do. 32 weeks ago, eight months. Almost enough time to grow a whole entire human being. I am curious what happened between EJ and Cat on Days of our Lives. Sure. But I’m more curious why the writers think that spending two-thirds of a year on this slow-moving plot is a good use of our time. So, this thing with EJ and Cat, it’s more than a slow burn. It’s barely a spark.

Days of our Lives: EJ’s Kind Gesture

If you recall, after EJ was shot by Rachel Black (Loreli Olivia Mote), he woke from his coma and immediately bid in the hospital’s charity auction to take Cat on a date. And then later, EJ gifted the outing to Chad DiMera (Connor Floyd), who was really into her. So, Cat and EJ’s interactions built from there.

And he hired Cat and then increasingly entrusted her with personal and professional matters, even though EJ did keep her in the dark about the secret lab. And he’s been good to Cat. He even gave her fallen brother, Mark Green (Jonah Robinson) a job in his lab. All this while, Cat has been betraying his trust at every turn, lying to EJ and snooping around, trying to take him down.

Meanwhile, Cat does have this attraction, this draw to him she feels. And if she’d never pulled that scam on Chad and gotten involved with him, I think Cat might have been more drawn to EJ. But as of now, Cat claims she doesn’t remember very much from the hospital in Italy.

She was recuperating from that terrible car wreck. And she has some memories. She remembers, for instance, seeing Sami Brady (Allison Sweeney) there visiting EJ. Plus, when Cat and Sami had a run-in, they both kind of noticed a familiarity, but there wasn’t an overly strong reaction between Cat and Sami other than sort of a hint of, “Hey, do I know you?” type of thing.

EJ & Cat’s Story Parallels Wuthering Heights on DOOL

Fast forward February 2026, EJ was having Cat read from the book to try and trigger his own memory of the clinic and the connection that EJ is feeling to Cat. So, it’s kind of interesting they chose Wuthering Heights because EJ and Cat’s story somewhat parallels it in that there’s this intense and destructive attraction. There’s hidden past. There’s complicated family dynamics.

But don’t judge EJ and Cat off the new Wuthering Heights movie if you saw it. It was very sexy, but had little to do with the great piece of literature. They took the characters, the location, and half the book and basically made it into a naughty movie that almost ignores the source material.

Days of Our Lives reveals that Cat Green (AnnaLynne McCord) – Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall)

What Might Cat Remember Under Hypnosis?

So, one passage from the real book that EJ and Cat both remember might hold some clues about their past connection. And it was this quote, “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. If all else perished and he remained, I should still continue to be. And if all else remained and he annihilated her, the universe would turn into a mighty stranger.” It’s pretty heavy stuff. Kind of interesting, very romantic, soul deep connection.

So, if Marlena hypnotizes her, Cat may recall that she might have been spying on EJ even back then, especially if she was placed in that specific hospital by the ISA for that reason. And then whatever she discovered, she couldn’t tell them because she forgot. So, the book may have also been some sort of mind control tool like Stefano did when he used Arabian Nights.

So, what I’m wondering is, will Cat let Marlena hypnotize her or will she just schedule an appointment and she tells EJ she got hypnotized knowing that Marlena can’t tell him either way because of doctor-patient confidentiality? Or will Cat allow Marlena to hypnotize her and she recovers some really shocking memories, but then she lies and tells EJ that the hypnosis failed. Or maybe Cat will lie and make up something that she claims are recovered memories. Because again, Marlena can’t say anything. So, you know, Cat could just roll the dice and do what she wants.

Days of our Lives: Cat Wants Her Memories

I do think that she will let Marlena hypnotize her so that Cat will get back whatever memories are there of the hospital. And I suspect that Marlena is going to help her recover some really shocking memories and from there with the information in hand, Cat can decide what to do.

She can make a fully informed decision. So, the question is maybe she’ll remember that she fell for EJ and if so will she tell him, you know, while they were recovering together. Maybe they built something emotional. Or maybe Cat finds out something shocking about Sami. Maybe she was sneaking off to meet the man she’s engaged to now, Dante Vitali. Hopefully we’ll find out soon and not in another 32 weeks.

Netflix’s New K-Pop Movie Lets Anderson .Paak Put a Spotlight on Fatherhood in New BTS Images [Exclusive]

Published

on

k-pops-poster.jpg

2026 has been a big year for Grammy winner Anderson .Paak. The soulful hip-hop and R&B artist and one-half of Silk Sonic has been having a moment of late, recently appearing on the Time100 Most Influential People in the World list for 2026, showing up at the MET Gala, performing globally with his creative partner Bruno Mars on the star’s The Romantic Tour, and finally bringing his feature directorial debut K-Pops! to theaters. With Father’s Day just around the corner, Netflix is giving him even more good news. Nearly two years after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival, his family comedy officially arrives on streaming this weekend, on May 30, just in time to celebrate the holiday with a story of a dad learning to do right by his long-lost son. Before then, Collider can exclusively share a collection of behind-the-scenes shots from the making of the silly, heartwarming, and deeply personal project.

K-Pops! is a collision of love, music, culture, and passion, something that’s reflected in each of the images from the production process. For every shot of .Paak taking notes, observing scenes, and looking at screens — all while in costume — there are more of the director/star bringing his cast and crew in to show them what they made together. It particularly highlights how much of a father-son affair the film was, with .Paak sharing laughs and scenes alike with his son, Soul Rasheed. The idea was born out of his obsession with K-pop, which, in turn, got his dad interested and became something the two could bond over. Whether they’re jamming out together or walking through elaborate sets, there’s a clear respect and excitement for the culture and the music that binds them together.

In the film, .Paak plays BJ, a washed-up Los Angeles musician seeking a fresh start to his career in South Korea. Still emotionally bruised from a past relationship, he starts his journey back to stardom as part of a house band on a K-pop competition show in Seoul. It’s there, however, that he discovers his long-lost son, Tae Young (Rasheed), is chasing his own dreams of K-pop superstardom and is on the fast track to becoming one of the industry’s next big names. Suddenly, BJ’s goal shifts from launching his solo act to mentoring Tae Young, hoping his success will also carry him back to the top. As they spend time together and begin to bond over their shared love of music, though, he fully commits to being the best dad he can be for Tae Young, embracing the culture and hobbies he loves and working to repair his relationships.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

‘K-Pops!’ Was Hailed as a Loving Tribute to K-Pop and Fatherhood

Further reflecting .Paak’s commitment to South Korean culture and music, K-Pops! is packed with sounds from real K-pop artists, including the track “Keychain,” which .Paak made in collaboration with the girl group aespa. The cast, featuring the likes of Jee Young Han, Jonnie “Dumbfoundead” Park, and Yvette Nicole Brown, also includes several K-pop stars, like Kevin Woo, Vernon, G-Dragon, Seventeen, and The Rose. Both the personal and cultural elements came together in a screenplay co-written by .Paak and Khaila Amazan to make a film that critics lauded as a loving tribute to the music genre and its ability to bring people together, earning it a very strong Certified Fresh 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider’s Isabella Soares gave it a 7/10 in her review, writing “This isn’t the typical tale of a parent begrudgingly setting their dreams aside for their child, but a rather optimistic outlook on how fatherhood can help a person learn from their mistakes and become a better version of themselves.”

K-Pops! takes the stage on streaming on May 30. Check out our exclusive collection of behind-the-scenes photos in the gallery above and check out .Paak’s full episode of Collider On the Record below.

Serena Williams Reportedly Making A Tennis Comeback

Published

on

Serena Williams and Patrick Mouratoglou

In a surprising turn of events, Serena Williams is reportedly preparing a monumental return to professional tennis after nearly four years away from competitive sports.

The iconic athlete has apparently requested a tournament entry to play alongside a rising international star in an upcoming grass-court event in London.

Despite her previous public denials and statements downplaying the rumors, recent developments behind the scenes suggest the legendary champion is ready to step back onto the court.

Per recent reports, the 44-year-old tennis icon is reportedly planning to enter the doubles draw at the upcoming Queen’s Club Championships, which are scheduled to begin on June 8.

News of her potential wildcard request broke during a broadcast of the “Served” podcast, which is hosted by her close friend and former player Andy Roddick. According to the clip posted on X, the legendary champion intends to make her competitive return by partnering with world No. 9 Victoria Mboko of Canada.

This upcoming appearance would mark her very first competitive outing since her emotional final appearance at the 2022 U.S. Open, where her historic career seemingly concluded with a third-round defeat against Ajla Tomljanović.

The surprising tournament update directly contradicts several public statements made by the multi-time Grand Slam winner over the last several months. When reports first surfaced in December revealing that she had officially re-entered the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s anti-doping testing pool, she quickly dismissed the speculation on social media, per U.S. Weekly.

Writing to her followers on X, she stated that she was not coming back and described the mounting online rumors as an out-of-control “wildfire.”

Williams similarly maintained this identical stance during a late January appearance on the “Today” show with anchor Savannah Guthrie, where she claimed she was simply enjoying her retirement.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion appeared completely caught off guard when host Guthrie raised the possibility of a professional comeback, per The Blast.

Rather than giving a straightforward answer about her future athletic plans, she initially laughed off the speculation and claimed she was simply having fun and seeing what happened.

As the questioning persisted, the legendary player firmly shut down further discussion regarding her official anti-doping paperwork, stating that she was simply not allowed to discuss the matter on television.

Although Williams was unwilling to discuss details of her rumored return, she has been open about the effect of weight-loss medication on her health.

According to The Blast, she noted that the treatments have completely changed her physical well-being, helping the 44-year-old athlete drop 35 pounds and lower her cholesterol numbers by an impressive 30 percent.

The health improvements have slashed the iconic champion’s lifetime risk of developing heart disease by 70 percent, leaving her feeling lighter and better than ever. The multi-time champion also confessed that she currently possesses so much physical stamina that she regularly participates in runs, long walks, and intense pilates sessions.

She even recalled hitting balls on a tennis court just days prior to the interview and simply having fun with the sport without the immense pressure of her past career.

Serena Williams’ Post About Discipline Sparked Debates Online

Besides talking about her weight loss journey, Williams was also open about discipline in her household. The retired champion sparked an intense online debate after sharing a deeply personal parenting moment involving her daughter, Olympia.

The conversation began when Williams took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a relatable, emotionally fraught moment at home.

The tennis legend explained that she had told her eldest daughter, Olympia, to go to bed, but the child refused. As a result of her defiance, Olympia was denied permission to attend a planned sleepover, leading to tears from the young girl.

The Blast reported that Williams didn’t shy away from admitting how difficult the enforcement was for her as a mother. She revealed that the punishment took an emotional toll on her as well. However, this resulted in intense backlash from fans online who felt that it was bad parenting on her part.

While her candid social media admissions about discipline sparked widespread internet debate, the 23-time Grand Slam champion continued to pull back the curtain on how she raises her children with her husband, Alexis Ohanian.

Appearing on a special live taping of the podcast “IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson,” the tennis icon opened up about raising eight-year-old Olympia and two-year-old Adira.

Williams confessed that she initially instituted a self-imposed boundary where she refused to spend more than 24 hours away from Olympia until her daughter reached six years old, per The Blast.

While acknowledging the parenting decision might have been a little extreme, she emphasized it was her way of showing up for her children every single day.

60 Minutes’ Sharyn Alfonsi Contract Not Renewed Amid Clash

Published

on

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi’s contract was not renewed amid a clash with the editor-in-chief of CBS News, Bari Weiss.

“It sends a chilling message to the entire newsroom,” Alfonsi, 53, told The New York Times in an interview published on Wednesday, May 27, days after her deal expired. “I think it was a deliberate choice to penalize a journalist for refusing to sanitize accurate reporting.”

Alfonsi alleged that her agent had been inquiring with CBS News over the past several weeks and had been met with silence. She explained that she remains employed at CBS, but has no contract in place. Alfonsi alleged that she did not have an expectation of returning to 60 Minutes.

“I’m not resigning,” she said. “If they want me gone because I did my job, they’ll have to fire me.”

Alfonsi has contributed to 60 Minutes since 2015. Six months prior to her contract not being renewed, Alfonsi’s segment on torture in Salvadoran prisons was pulled off the air by Weiss, 42.

At the time, Alfonsi said in an email to colleagues that the decision was “political.” Weiss, however, denied this and said the reporting “was not ready.” Weiss claimed she had suggested a few tweaks, including that the team ask for an interview with Stephen Miller.

The segment aired one month later. At the time, there were comments from the Trump administration added to the piece.

Alfonsi appeared on 60 Minutes through the remainder of the season, which came to an end in May. While weighing in on the show’s future, Alfonsi told The New York Times that she felt it was uncertain.

“For the last 60 years it’s been the same formula: Tell the truth, hold the power accountable, don’t blink,” she said. “And it’s unclear what next season looks like.”

She continued, “There’s a feeling that the wall has come down between editorial independence and corporate interests. The concern is we’re going to end up with a broadcast that looks like 60 Minutes but doesn’t have the courage or the character to produce 60 Minutes journalism that actually matters.”

Since Weiss joined CBS, Anderson Cooper also left the program after 20 years. In his last appearance earlier this month, Cooper shared that he hoped “60 Minutes remains 60 Minutes.”

He added, “The independence of 60 Minutes has been critical. The trust it has with viewers is critical to the success of 60 Minutes.”

14 Years Later, This All-Star Trilogy Remains the Best Action Binge on HBO Max

Published

on

01386163_poster_w780.jpg

Who says that action films can’t have excitement as well as emotional storytelling? Not Christopher Nolan, that’s for sure. After making a splash with Memento and Insomnia, the visionary director took on one of the most famous action vigilantes of all time. While not an obvious choice to lead a new era of Batman, Nolan was one of the pioneers of the gritty superhero genre. Christian Bale stars as the Caped Crusader in a trilogy that defied all tropes of the genre up until that point.

A far cry from the camp that Adam West delivered in the ‘60s, Batman Begins shows a realistic portrayal of Bruce Wayne’s origin and how he came to adopt the cowl. Bale epitomizes Batman’s dark burden in a star-studded cast that has become classic. Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, and Cillian Murphy all star in the first film, and this cast was just the beginning. The subsequent movies continued with an all-star cast and went on to be one of the most perfect action trilogies of all time.

‘The Dark Knight Trilogy’ Balances Action and Heart

It can always be said that Christopher Nolan knows how to make a good movie. While it may be easy to slot The Dark Knight Trilogy into just another superhero franchise, no decision in these films was made without consideration for the characters. Nolan did an impressive job of making Bruce’s decision to dress up like a bat make emotional sense, as he did with some of the more wild aspects of the franchise. Instead of a cartoonish villain, the Joker (Heath Ledger) became legitimately terrifying, as did his fixation with Batman. Bane (Tom Hardy) turns in his use of venom for a more emotionally resonant backstory.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

One of the more controversial decisions for the comic fans was to strip back Batman’s moniker as The World’s Greatest Detective. In The Dark Knight Trilogy, Batman does less investigating and more chasing down nuclear bombs. However, Nolan’s approach to the subject material created an action franchise that was near-perfect in its execution. Like any movie in the director’s filmography, Batman succeeds thanks to its well-placed visuals, music, and performances.

Each film is a race against time, and an iconic villain to save Gotham from itself. This trilogy paved the way for Zack Snyder and eventually Matt Reeves, who has delivered one of the most comic-accurate portrayals of Batman. Because of Nolan, The Batman could be a truly great crime movie. At the same time, The Dark Knight Trilogy stands on its own as a rare, concise franchise that needs no outside context.

Nolan’s films are self-contained and gratifying, especially in a world where Marvel demands an excessive amount of homework to follow plotlines. The Batman films were action-packed but really needed no further explanation. It attracted Oscar-winning talent because of the strength of the writing. Nolan has released many masterpieces in their own right, but it is hard to deny the power of his Batman films.

Logan Paul Posts Grotesque Photos After Tricep Surgery 2

Logan Paul posted a series of graphic photos after having surgery to repair a torn tricep suffered in a WWE match.

“Tore my tricep, got surgery while wide awake, told doc I wanna feel it all,” Paul, 31, claimed via Instagram on Wednesday, May 27. “Still the Tag Team champ just FYI.”

The former YouTube star shared a carousel of pictures from pre and post-surgery, showing off a massive scar on his left arm.

Paul suffered the injury during a tag team title match against the Street Profits at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event on Saturday, May 23, when the Street Profits’ Angelo Dawkins hit Paul with a flip to the outside of the ring.

“They’re telling me 6 month recovery but I don’t believe them, I’ll be back in a couple weeks,” Paul boasted. Jokes aside, Paul is expected to be out for roughly half-a-year.

Paul also managed to have a sense of humor about his scar, reposting one fan’s suggestion that it looked like an Uncrustable sandwich.

“Damn,” he wrote via his Instagram Story next to the side-by-side comparison.

Logan and his tag team partner, Austin Theory, still managed to win their match against the Street Profits at Saturday Night’s Main Event, retaining their tag team titles.

Paul Heyman — who manages Logan, Theory, 28, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed as The Vision — suggested the stable has a plan to keep Paul’s belt warm while he recovers.

“Logan Paul knows better than anyone else, this ain’t ballet,” Heyman, 60, told Theory Monday, May 25, on WWE Raw. “And when you and Logan Paul became the tag team champions, I put in every contract, ‘The Vision defending the tag team titles.’”

Heyman continued, “That means any member of The Vision teaming with any member of The Vision of my choice. Which means you are going to be the tag team champion with, oh, I don’t know, off the top of my head, Bron Breakker. And I expect the two of you to defend those titles with honor and dignity.”

Paul and Theory won the tag team titles after defeating the Usos in a Street Fight on March 30. It marked Paul’s second championship in WWE since making his in-ring debut in April 2022. Paul also won the United States Championship in November 2023, eventually losing it to LA Knight at SummerSlam in August 2024.

Raunchy, Explosive 80s Action Thriller Is The R-Rated Charlie’s Angels You’ve Been Looking For

Raunchy, Explosive 80s Action Thriller Is The R-Rated Charlie’s Angels You’ve Been Looking For

By Robert Scucci
| Published

As I’ve said in the past, I have a strange relationship with media in the streaming era because I’ll blindly throw on a title that looks intriguing without first digging into its lore and development. While watching 1989’s Savage Beach, my first thought was, “This is a lot like Hard Ticket to Hawaii (1987), but if it played more like Charlie’s Angels.” As it turns out, Savage Beach belongs to the same Triple B (Bullets, Bombs, and Babes) film series spearheaded by Andy Sidaris. Other titles in the series, outside of Hard Ticket to Hawaii, include Malibu Express (1985), Picasso Trigger (1988), Day of the Warrior (1996), and even a sequel, Return to Savage Beach (1998)

If there’s one thing you should know before getting into Savage Beach, or any of the other above-mentioned titles, it’s that these movies are campy, cartoonishly violent, and sexually explicit in the most egregious ways possible. Savage Beach basically plays out like any low-budget action movie you’ve ever seen, but it’s led by a strong female cast that’s scantily clad and always ready for a wardrobe change before unloading countless rounds from their machine guns.

Bullets, Bombs, And Babes

Savage Beach 1989

When Savage Beach first introduces us to its ballsy heroines, Donna Hamilton (Dona Speir) and Taryn (Hope Marie Carlton), they’re successfully carrying out a drug bust. They find a cache of cocaine hidden inside decoy pineapples, their guns pop off in a blaze of glory, and it’s immediately established that nobody should mess with them. Then they celebrate in a hot tub with their fellow special agents.

When Donna and Taryn are summoned to deliver vaccines and supplies to the Philippines, they jump at the opportunity, but not before loading up their survival pack with enough firearms to handle any sticky situation. Though Donna and Taryn are exceptional pilots, they’re no match for the brutal storm awaiting their aircraft, prompting them to crash land on a deserted island. Before they get the full lay of the land, they immediately decide to go skinny dipping on the beach.

Savage Beach 1989

As luck would have it, a group of mercenaries led by Captain Andres (John Aprea) arrives on the same island in search of buried treasure lost during World War II. Captain Andres knows where to look because he has access to the most sophisticated computer and floppy disk technology that 1989 had to offer. Outnumbered by dangerous men willing to kill anybody who gets in their way, it’s up to Donna and Taryn to take out the enemy, fix their plane, and resume their mission.

Shlock And Awe At Its Finest

Savage Beach 1989

As insultingly simple as the plot to Savage Beach may be, Dona Speir and Hope Marie Carlton steal every single scene they’re in. The mercenary sequences are necessary to establish some semblance of a story, but it’s really the survival scenes that make this thing work. When a rightfully paranoid Donna, sleeping with a machine gun in her lap, is abruptly woken up by a twig snapping in the distance, she opens fire and accidentally decimates a rooster. She shrugs it off and flippantly suggests they need to find a new alarm clock. In the very next scene, she and Taryn are roasting the bird over a fire and eating it like nothing happened, completely unfazed by the fact that they just pumped an innocent rooster full of lead.

Through a modern lens, Savage Beach can absolutely be seen as exploitative, and it’s easy to understand why. You could call this thing Cleavage: The Movie and nobody would argue that it should have a different title. But it’s also a subversion of its era’s action movie tropes because there isn’t a single damsel in distress to be found. Every woman in Savage Beach is a certified badass, independent to a fault, and ready to dive headfirst into danger because they know they can handle anything thrown at them.

With more one-liners than you could possibly count, Savage Beach is good, not-so-clean fun, and that’s entirely the point. It’s Charlie’s Angels with an R-rating, and it’s not trying to be anything else. If that sounds like your kind of trashy action movie night, you can stream it for free on Tubi as of this writing.

Jenny McCarthy Sounds Off On Rideshare Trend That Needs To End

Published

on

Jenny McCarthy

Jenny McCarthy has taken to TikTok to passionately share a frustration she has about rideshares. And apparently, she’s far from the only one who’s ready for this one trend to change.

McCarthy, known for often sharing health and wellness information on social media, is tired of being “Christmas treed” in the back of an Uber or Lyft, and she’s far from alone.

In a recently shared TikTok video, McCarthy talks about this one thing that has her frustrated when she needs to hop into an Uber or Lyft.

“Hey, I’m making a public service announcement, so please feel free to share this video, in fact, please share this video wide, far and wide,” she began her plea. “I would like to get this to the President/CEO of Uber, Lyft, all of them.”

She continued by saying that she saw a podcast do an interview with an “Uber guy that owned it” about being able to request a specific thing when ordering a rideshare ride.

“You know how you can request female driver, you can request all these things, like don’t talk to me too much,” she continued. “Please make a choice to have non-fragrance cars. I think the majority of people will enjoy non fragrance, because those damn Christmas trees.”

‘Literally I Wanted To Die’

McCarthy shared that she was in a rideshare earlier in the day and there were two Christmas tree air fresheners in the car and, “literally I wanted to die.”

“I’m finding myself hanging out of cars when I’m working locations and like, jumping in an Uber and I’m seriously dying,” she continued. “It’s so toxic, if you don’t know that fragrance is so toxic, and those Christmas tree things are horrible for you.”

She then made her ultimate plea for Uber and Lyft drivers to get rid of the air fresheners. She also asked that the “president of Uber, please make that a choice.”

It didn’t take long for viewers to hop into the comment section to share their thoughts on air fresheners taking over rideshares.

“Best dang idea I’ve heard all day!!! I do the same, I hang out the window and still get hives and a headache,” one viewer wrote. Another shared, “Yes! The Vanilla Trees literally make me want to vomit with an instant headache.” One other viewer said, “So agree…especially having asthma it’s hard to breathe. fresh air open windows.”

And that’s far from all the comments. Many others also agreed and shared their thoughts on the topic.

“I’m missing part of my lung & have asthma and I cannot breathe any fragrance, it suffocates me,” one person shared. Another added, “Yes please! Otherwise I’m keeping the windows down. In Boston last year it felt like I got a ride in an Abercrombie store.”

Jenny McCarthy’s Cosmetic Company Has Non-Toxic Products

McCarthy’s cosmetics company, Formless Beauty, boasts that their products are non-toxic, which goes along with her not wanting to be suffocated by toxic air fresheners in cars.

She recently shared a video on TikTok talking about her non-toxic makeup remover.

“Why is this cleanser the bomb? Why is it so good? Why do we have to have it? Most of the times, we wash our face, you guys, we’re always needing like a second thing to, a next second cleanser to take our eye makeup off,” she said. “This does both. It’s such clean ingredients that it doesn’t burn your eyes when you take off your eye makeup.”

She captioned the video with more information about the non-toxic cleanser.

“Seriously the BEST non-toxic eye and face makeup remover. Won’t burn your eyes and melts makeup away,” she wrote, before offering a discount, “Try it with my discount code JENNY10.”

Jenny McCarthy Also Recently Shared A Video About ‘Gut Issues’

In another recently shared video on TikTok, McCarthy shared some information on “chronic health issues.”

“Dr. Christian Bogner and Alex Zaharakis, two parents of special needs children, have been collaborating for several years to connect the dots, generate solutions, and develop strategies to bring improvements to the many suffering from chronic health issues,” she wrote in the caption of her TikTok video. She also shared resources for anyone who needs them — “Contact [email protected]. If autism contact: [email protected].”

In the video, she talks about “leaky gut” and “gut issues” and talked about products that have been helping her.

“I’m only sharing because I want to help people,” she said before talking about the products.

Many viewers took to the comments to say they’ve been dealing with issues and thanked McCarthy for sharing the information.
