Like most streaming services, Apple TV is not known for being pro-theater. However, the streaming service is one of the kinder ones for this medium, with some of its movies having a limited theatrical release before becoming available to stream. Blockbusters like F1 and Killers of the Flower Moon had a short theatrical window before they hit Apple TV. This release strategy is on a case-by-case basis, as streaming services weigh which movies have the potential to draw people to theaters and possibly secure award nominations. The streamer has several movies set for a theatrical release, with one of them hitting all the notes for a potential award run.
This film is based on a true story and chronicles the feat of one little-known pioneer. Many people might be unaware of Tenzing Norgay, the first recorded mountain climber to reach the summit of the tallest mountain in the world. Genden Phuntsok plays the Himalayan climber who collaborated with New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, played by Tom Hiddleston, for the historic climb. Tenzing has attracted some top-tier talent, including Willem Dafoe as Colonel Hunt and Caitríona Balfe as Jill Henderson.
Tenzing had to overcome a lot because, before he was allowed to climb, he served the British climbing team. With Henderson, they convince Colonel Hunt to add him to the team as a climber. He was able to climb the mountain by using a different philosophy from his Western counterparts, who viewed it as a conquest, whereas Tenzing viewed it as an entity. The climb becomes not only a challenge to push human limits but also a clash of ideas and backgrounds. Still, a mountain like Everest, or Chomolungma as it is traditionally called, has the unique ability to strip people down to the bare minimum and reveal what they’re made of.

After making history as the first recorded person to climb Mount Everest, Tenzing became a global celebrity and was named as Time’s 100 Most Influential People of the 21st Century. He went on to write a book that detailed his life. Tenzing was married three times and had seven children. His first wife, Dawa (Thienly Lhamo), was one of his greatest supporters, but she died. He had numerous grandchildren, including Tenzing Trainor (Liv and Maddie, Freeridge), an American actor and son of Norgay’s daughter Deki Tenzing. Norgay died in 1986 of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 71.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s private wedding vows reportedly gave their guests a deeply personal look at the relationship behind one of the world’s most famous couples. Maren Morris was among the approximately 1,000 people invited to the couple’s July 3 ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The country singer has now shared new details about the lengthy vows, revealing that Swift and Kelce balanced heartfelt admissions with the playful humor that defines their relationship.

Morris described the couple’s exchange of vows as “beautiful” while speaking exclusively with PEOPLE. “It just felt like you really got a closer look into their love for each other and their sense of humor,” the 36-year-old singer said.
Swift and Kelce reportedly read vows that lasted approximately 20 minutes each, allowing their friends and relatives to hear the intimate details of their love story.
Morris, who is friends with Swift and has previously collaborated with her musically, said being included in such a significant moment was deeply meaningful. “Being one of 1,000 people that witnessed that, it was an honor,” Morris shared. “[The best part was] just celebrating their love for each other.”
Swift and Kelce did not surround themselves with a traditional group of bridesmaids and groomsmen. Instead, Swift’s brother, Austin, stood beside her as Man of Honor. Kelce selected his older brother, retired Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce, as his Best Man.

The reception included performances from some of the biggest names in music. Paul McCartney performed The Beatles’ classic “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” while Stevie Nicks was also included in the evening’s entertainment lineup.
Morris admitted that she was overwhelmed by the number of recognizable people gathered inside Madison Square Garden. “I feel like my neck hurt by the end of the night because I just kept turning my head around seeing people I never thought I’d see before in person,” she said with a laugh.

The tables turned this weekend, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day getting the Marvel Cinematic Universe back on track after an uneven last few years. Still the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, the MCU delivered its first few bombs recently, after seemingly being infallible for the better part of 15 years. The Marvels grossed just around $200 million worldwide, while Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania fell short of both its predecessors. Even the hotly marketed The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts* underperformed in relation to their budgets. But Spider-Man: Brand New Day not only broke the opening-weekend box office records of its predecessor,Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it nearly delivered the biggest debut of all time.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and headlined by Tom Holland, the movie broke Avengers: Endgame‘s opening-day record at the domestic box office, grossing $168 million. By comparison, Avengers: Endgame grossed $157 million in its first day of release in 2019. The superhero team-up, directed by the Russo Brothers, ultimately made $357 million domestically and around $1.2 billion worldwide in its debut frame, setting incredible records that seemed almost impossible to break. Remember, it was only in 2002 that Sam Raimi‘s original Spider-Man hit became the first film in history to gross more than $100 million in its domestic debut weekend. Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, on the other hand, grossed $260 million in its domestic debut in 2021. This record has now been broken by Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Once it was added to Netflix a few years ago, the Dexter franchise experienced quite the resurrection — no pun intended. Dexter had long been one of the most popular shows of the 2000s, but it’s safe to say that fans had come to terms with there not being any more content from the franchise after the ill-fated New Blood season. Dexter’s resurgence on Netflix and subsequent success on Paramount Plus forced Paramount to begin developing new Dexter shows, and the first to hit the small screen was Dexter: Original Sin. The prequel series starred Patrick Gibson (007 First Light) as a young Dexter Morgan, and despite it being renewed for Season 2, Paramount ultimately changed its mind and decided to cancel the show. This left only one Dexter series left standing, and it’s officially picking up steam for Season 2.
Last year in June, Paramount brought back Michael C. Hall to play Dexter in Dexter: Resurrection, the sequel series set after the events of the flagship Dexter show and New Blood. Paramount also recruited Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage for key roles in Dexter: Resurrection, but only Thurman is coming back for Season 2, which is already confirmed to be released this October. As fans continue to revisit the Dexter franchise, shows like Dexter: Resurrection have surged back into the top 10 before the arrival of its new season. Even Dexter: Original Sin is having a streaming resurgence right now, as fans demand that Paramount bring the show back for another season. There was also a planned Trinity Killer spin-off starring John Lithgow, but Dexter creator Clyde Phillips confirmed that the spin-off had been put on ice, so to speak.

Paramount has yet to decide the fate of Dexter: Resurrection after Season 2, and after the other Dexter shows had the axe brought down on them, the future of the series is anything but certain. The news about Dexter: Resurrection Season 3 likely won’t be decided until the studio has had time to analyze how Season 2 performs, but Dexter fans are most certainly going to show up in droves to make sure the show isn’t canceled after two seasons. With the upcoming eleventh and final installment of the Fast and Furious franchise currently in the ‘Vin Dieselshares updates on Instagram’ stage of production, director Louis Leterrier‘s schedule has cleared up considerably in the last couple of years. He made the most of his time. While Universal was clearly negotiating the return of dozens of stars for the final chapter of the Fast saga, which will probably turn out to be one of the most expensive movies ever made, Leterrier directed two feature films. The Apple TV original film Liminal, starring Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, began filming in May. But Leterrier’s first new film since Fast X is just around the corner.
The upcoming film is headlined by Past Lives breakout Greta Lee and recent Oscar nominee Wagner Moura. They play a couple who are trapped in their house with their children, unable to escape while a mysterious threat looms outside. It’s like The Squid and the Whale meets The Mist, but for a Netflix audience. Here’s When You Can Watch Greta Lee and Wagner Moura’s Sci-Fi Movie on Netflix
Leterrier’s new sci-fi movie with Lee and Moura is titled The Last House. It’ll be released on Netflix on August 7. After breaking out with the Oscar-nominated Past Lives, Lee appeared in the box-office underperformer Tron: Ares and the critically acclaimed Apple TV comedy series The Studio. She also voiced the antagonist in the recently released Pixar movie Toy Story 5, which has grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Moura, of course, broke out with Netflix’s Narcos over a decade ago. In 2025, he starred in the critically acclaimed Brazilian film The Secret Agent, which received a Best Picture nod at the Oscars in addition to earning Moura his first Best Actor nomination. Warner Bros.’ hopes for another trip to Barbie Land appear to be facing a costly setback. Talks with Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and the original creative team have yet to produce a deal as a key rights deadline approaches.

According to The New York Times, CEO David Zaslav has resisted offering Robbie and Gosling lucrative contracts that include profit participation. Gosling, who earned an Oscar nomination for playing Ken, is reportedly seeking a salary increase to $20 million.
The studio did not lock the cast into sequel agreements before the original film because the stars signed one-picture contracts as part of the deal to bring Greta Gerwig aboard as director. That means every major participant is now free to renegotiate following the movie’s $1.4 billion box-office run.
Warner Bros. co-chairs Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca said the studio has made several “big offers” but has yet to reach an agreement. A spokesperson also denied that an approved deal framework had later been withdrawn.
Greta Gerwig Reportedly Keeping ‘Barbie 2’ Under Wraps
Beyond the money, another supposed big sticking point in the “Barbie 2” negotiations is the story itself. Gerwig and her husband and longtime writing partner, Noah Baumbach, are said to have already settled on a concept for the sequel and are ready to begin writing.
However, the pair reportedly won’t reveal a single plot detail to Warner Bros. until their contracts are finalized, giving them an unusual advantage in the ongoing talks.

The strategy marks a notable shift from Gerwig’s earlier stance. After “Barbie” became the highest-grossing film of 2023, she repeatedly insisted a sequel would only happen if she discovered another story worth telling. “If I find the undertow, then we get it. If I don’t find an undertow, there’s no more,” she said while accepting TIME’s Women of the Year honor in 2024.
Reports that Gerwig and Baumbach had cracked that story first surfaced late that same year, though Warner Bros. and representatives for the filmmakers publicly disputed that development at the time.
Why ‘Barbie’ Could Be Forced To Start Over From Scratch
Warner Bros. faces a December deadline to begin developing the sequel. If the studio fails to strike a deal before then, the “Barbie” franchise would effectively revert the sequel rights to Mattel, giving the toy giant full control of the property once again. But the company wouldn’t inherit the foundation Warner Bros. has spent years building.

The NY Times report says Mattel would have to redevelop the franchise from scratch, meaning it could not take the existing story elements or the filmmakers and stars attached to the current project to another studio.
That would leave Gerwig’s reported sequel idea on the shelf unless a new agreement is eventually reached. It would also put the future of Robbie, Gosling, and the rest of the original creative team in serious doubt.
Warner Bros. might have to make a decision pretty soon on just how much it wants Gerwig to write and direct a “Barbie” sequel, given just how packed her slate already is.
The Oscar-nominated filmmaker is currently focused on “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,” her ambitious adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy novel for Netflix. Gerwig wrote, directed and produced the film, which stars Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep.
The project is scheduled for a global theatrical release on Feb. 12, 2027, before debuting on Netflix on April 2.

The Cast Has Always Been Cautious About ‘Barbie 2’
The cast of “Barbie” has often been reluctant to promise fans a return to Barbie Land.
Speaking to TIME after the film’s record-breaking run, Robbie said discussions about the franchise had taken place but stressed that nothing had been decided. “It could go a million different directions from this point,” she said, adding that filmmakers can fall into “a bit of a trap” by trying to plan sequels while making the first movie.
Ryan Gosling has been just as guarded. During a fan Q&A at London’s BFI Southbank, the actor dismissed questions about a follow-up, saying, “I’m not going anywhere near that. We really know nothing.”

According to Netflix’s latest viewership report, Ritchson had two movies in the global top 10 simultaneously, War Machine and the sleeper hit drama Ordinary Angels. This month, the action star will reprise his most popular role in the fourth season of Reacher. Ritchson is also expected to appear as the hulking character, previously played by Tom Cruise in two movies, in the spin-off series Neagley. The PS2 had some visually striking video games, and one of the most gorgeous in terms of art style and uniqueness was Okami. The player controls Amaterasu, the sun goddess of Japan, who takes on the form of a White Wolf. When a dark curse is launched on the land of Nippon by an ancient demon, Amaterasu must cleanse the land or risk the country falling into ruin.
Okami’s art style resembles a traditional Japanese sumi-e ink wash painting, which features thick brushstrokes and vibrant splashes of color. This aesthetic makes the game feel like a painting come to life, truly being the closest thing a video game can come to being art. The brush mechanic was innovative and thematically relevant, further showcasing this visually stunning video game in all of its beauty.

After Zeus betrays and kills Kratos, the Titan Gaia revives him, giving him the chance to travel through time and fight through the underworld to rewrite his fate and kill the King of the Gods.
God of War II came out on both the PS2 and PS3, but it was an exclusive on the former for about two years, making it a staple of the best-selling console. By delivering an unbridled sense of anger and exhilaration, this game becomes a digital cathartic experience that is freeing to play. God of War II is an action masterclass with polished combat and fluid gameplay, which made it a nice send-off late in the PS2’s lifespan.

Some fans didn’t appreciate the shift into an action-centric focus, but it still maintained a horror feel that felt true to the original. The exes, who are in the middle of a bitter divorce battle, continue to trade public accusations, the latest of which came from Taylor, who accused Cartwright of sabotaging his life and career. “Vanderpump Rules” alum Jax Taylor is speaking out against his ex, Brittany Cartwright, accusing her of making the effort to embarrass him publicly. The latter filed for divorce in 2024, and they are still in the middle of legal proceedings.
At the end of July, Taylor posted an ad for Smartwater on his social media, which was later determined to be a fake brand deal. His ex mocked him in an episode of her podcast, “When Reality Hits,” saying that Taylor faked a brand deal to fix his image of “being a horrible human being.”
Taylor is calling out Cartwright for discussing matters on her podcast instead of privately reaching out to him. “Yesterday was just another example of Brittany going out of her way to publicly embarrass and humiliate me,” Taylor told Us Weekly, adding that the behavior has “become a pattern.”

“It’s just another example of her ongoing attempts to damage my reputation, interfere with my ability to work and earn a living, and make it as difficult as possible for me to move forward and rebuild my life,” Taylor claimed.
Brittany Cartwright Said Smartwater Reached Out To Her
Talking to Tom Schwartz on the podcast, Cartwright said she received a direct message from Smartwater, telling her that the company didn’t authorize Taylor’s post, nor was he approached for a brand deal.
“This is why I don’t believe anything that he says,” Cartwright said, adding that when other people sent her the post, she did not believe the brand would choose his ex to promote the product, and she got confirmation it was fake when they messaged her.
“That is embarrassing,” she continued, to which Schwartz replied, “I’m ashamed for him.”
Jax Taylor Addressed The Fake Brand Deal
On July 31, Taylor posted a statement on social media addressing the fake partnership with Smartwater. He was reportedly offered a campaign opportunity from a “third party influencer platform” and didn’t think twice about accepting the offer.
“As soon as I was notified that the campaign was unauthorized, I removed the content immediately. I have never and would never intentionally misrepresent a partnership,” Taylor wrote, adding that it was an “honest mistake.” He also included a screenshot of the offer he received.

Furthermore, he called out Cartwright for discussing the matter on her podcast to “mock” and “embarrass” him.
The TV Personality Claims His Ex Is Messing With Work Opportunities
Taylor said he’s remained silent about Cartwright out of respect for the mother of his child. In his post, however, he alleged that his ex has been making moves to prevent him from earning.
“Brittany has directly contacted networks and brands in an effort to stop me from working and to prevent me from getting opportunities affecting my ability to earn a living,” he wrote.
He told Us Weekly that he was supposed to appear in the TV series “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test” and had completed paperwork, but the offer was rescinded. “I came to find out that Brittany contacted them and once again interfered with an amazing job opportunity that would have helped me move forward,” he claimed.
Jax Taylor And Brittany Cartwright Exchange Accusations In Court
Taylor and Cartwright married in 2019, and they have one child together, a son born in 2021. The latter filed for divorce in 2024, citing irreconcilable differences.
The divorce is taking a long time due to back-and-forth accusations from both camps and unresolved division of assets. Taylor claimed that at their last court session, they spent eight hours attempting to resolve differences to no avail.

In April, per The Blast, Cartwright shared an update about their relationship, saying that while co-parenting wasn’t easy, they’re trying to make it work for the sake of their son.
