Bitcoin has exploded past $77,000 after one of its strongest rallies in years — but the move may be about far more than a simple crypto short squeeze.

Bitcoin has gained roughly 20% in just four days, breaking decisively out of the $58,000–$67,000 range that dominated much of the summer. Billions of dollars in short positions have been liquidated, institutional demand has returned, and the market is now watching a potentially major shift in U.S. policy.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong believes Bitcoin could be entering the next major crypto bull run, with the September 15 Senate vote on the CLARITY Act emerging as one of the biggest catalysts for the industry.

Armstrong is also extremely bullish on Bitcoin’s long-term potential, saying that he believes Bitcoin could reach $300,000–$400,000 by 2030.

But there is another major development investors need to understand.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced an increase in the size of Treasury buybacks, signaling that policymakers are becoming increasingly focused on liquidity and conditions in the long-term bond market.

With U.S. public debt approaching $40 trillion, elevated long-term Treasury yields, renewed institutional demand for Bitcoin, and the possibility of major crypto market-structure legislation, the macro backdrop is becoming increasingly important for Bitcoin investors.
