Alexi Lalas begs ‘anybody but England’ to win 2026 FIFA World Cup
Alexi Lalas previews 2026 FIFA World Cup, ‘Summer of ’94’ film
U.S. Soccer legend Alexi Lalas joins ‘Fox & Friends’ to discuss the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Lalas highlights the event’s cultural significance and reflects on the 1994 US World Cup team. Fox Sports announces a $250,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, matched by Fox Corporation, aimed at growing soccer grassroots.

There is no clear-cut favorite heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but if you ask Fox Sports analyst Alexi Lalas who he believes will lift the trophy at the end of the tournament, he’ll give you one answer.
“I don’t care who wins as long as it’s not England,” he said during Fox Sports’ FIFA World Cup 2026 Media Day on Wednesday in New York City. “I can abide by a lot of things happening this summer, but one thing I cannot is having England come over on our shores, on our 250th birthday of what I feel is the greatest country in the world, and for them to win a World Cup.
“If you think they’re insufferable now, could you imagine they came over and won that World Cup and it’s coming home through our country. I cannot have that, so anybody but England.”

The U.S.-England rivalry in soccer was in full force in 2022, when they were pitted against each other in their group stage in Qatar. It was a 0-0 draw in a hard-fought match for both sides, but in 2026, they’ll have to get out of their respective groups if they are to meet in the tournament.
But Lalas couldn’t imagine England taking home its first World Cup since 1966 — the country’s only victory in the tournament of all tournaments.
US SOCCER GREAT THINKS AMERICAN TEAM CAN SHOCK THE WORLD AT UPCOMING WORLD CUP
There is no denying, though, how great the English squad will be this year, as Lalas knows.
“They’re really good,” he said. “As much as it pains me to say, they are very, very good. The soccer gods have a wicked sense of humor. Please not England, anybody but England.”
Lalas’ Fox Sports colleague, host Rebecca Lowe, is a West Londoner who has dreamed of her country winning it all since she can remember.
“Every four years of my play since 1990, I think about England winning the World Cup,” she said after Lalas’ rant. “So, I’m now getting to a stage where if I now go against them, they’re going to do it.
“I’m going to be courageous. It is going to come home.”

Lowe and Lalas said that they will have a bet in place once the tournament begins where, if England does indeed win it all, the latter will have to do something and vice versa.
Carli Lloyd, Stu Holden, and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez also gave their predictions about who would win. Hernandez was on Lowe’s side believing England could win it all, though he hopes his home country, fellow host site Mexico, can do so instead.
Lloyd and Holden both think France, which fell in penalties to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup Final, will get the job done at MetLife Stadium in July.
“The French, I just look at this team, they continue to get stronger. When they go down a generation, the next generation comes,” Holden said.

“I’m going to go with France as well,” Lloyd added shortly after. “The depth, the experience. I know firsthand losing in 2011 at the World Cup, coming back and really having that desire to really want to win in 2015. There’s something about that.”
The panel was hopeful the U.S. men’s national team can make a run on home soil, but it’s hard to deny the talent level elsewhere as the best players and countries in the world converge on North America in just a few weeks.

New York Knicks beat Spurs to claim first NBA title in 53 years
The New York Knicks, fueled by a sensational 45 points from Jalen Brunson, rallied again to beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 and win their first NBA title in 53 years on Saturday.
The Knicks won the best-of-seven championship series 4-1, denying Victor Wembanyama and his young Spurs teammates on their home floor to lift the trophy for the first time since 1973.
The Knicks, who recovered from 29 points down in game four to produce the biggest comeback in Finals history, erased a double-digit deficit to win for the fourth time in the series.
They trailed by 16 in the second quarter and were down by 10 early in the fourth, but Brunson wouldn’t let them lose.

Brunson set a Knicks record for points in a Finals game, surpassing Willis Reed’s 38 in game three of the 1970 triumph over the Los Angeles Lakers.
French star Wembanyama scored 19 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked five shots and rookie Dylan Harper scored 25 points off the bench for San Antonio.
But once again the Spurs team that vanquished the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference finals were unable to hold off the crafty and determined Knicks.
The win marked the final chapter of a dramatic playoff run which had captivated New York, with tens of thousands of long-suffering fans packing neighborhood watch parties throughout the Big Apple as the team inched towards a first title in more than half a century.
Within moments of clinching victory on Saturday, the Empire State Building was lit up in the Knicks’ signature orange and blue colors, as raucous celebrations erupted outside the team’s Madison Square Garden home.

Wyndham Clark hilariously trolls Canadian fans with USA hockey jersey
For the first time in 44 years, the U.S. has bragging rights when it comes to hockey.
And as it turns out, Wyndham Clark isn’t keen to let any Canadian hockey fans forget about it.
On Saturday at the RBC Canadian Open, Clark took it to the Canadian golf faithful with a playful troll, reminding the fans of the hockey-obsessed TPC Toronto of the winner of this year’s Olympic hockey competition.
The scene arrived at The Rink, the hockey-themed 14th hole at the Canadian Open. The Rink is a new-ish development of the Canadian Open — a place aimed at replicating the success of the so-called “Stadium Hole” at the WM Phoenix Open. Each year, enormous grandstands are erected at “The Rink” and in recent years, players have been encouraged to play into the craziness of the crowd through all manner of goofy side-efforts. This year, the special effect is a hockey jersey for any player who wishes to wear one.
Wyndham Clark was certainly among the players interested in The Rink. He shot a 63 on Saturday, seven under, to put himself in the early afternoon lead. By the time he’d made it to the 14th, he was feeling it — and ready to have a little bit of fun of the Canadian Open faithful.
As he stepped to the tee, he plucked out a fresh hockey jersey and stretch it over his shirt. But this wasn’t any normal hockey jersey. It was a Team USA, Jack Hughes No. 86 jersey in blue. It was, for the uninitiated, the exact jersey and color and player who defeated the Canadians in overtime in the gold medal game back in February. Hughes scored the “golden goal” just minutes into overtime, driving a dagger through the hearts of the Canadians and bringing a gold medal to American hockey for the first time since the 1980 “miracle on ice” in Lake Placid, NY.
Now, Clark was wearing that same jersey in front of the Canadian golf faithful, and they were having none of it. Boos rained down on Clark as he stood on the tee box with a grin and no shortage of gumption.
Those boos didn’t stop as he hit his tee shot — a stuffed approach to just five feet — nor did they stop as he strode up to the green and confidently knocked down his birdie putt.
Eventually, Clark did remove the jersey and continue on the rest of his round, and the Canadian golf faithful returned to their trademark kindness … just maybe this time with a new tournament villain.

These are the two most import parts of putting when testing putters
When looking for a new putter, many golfers tend to focus, like Fully Equipped co-host Johnny Wunder, on strike and alignment.
“I look at putters like if I can aim it and I can hit it out of the middle,” Wunder said on this week’s episode.
But is that enough?
On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, Wunder posed that question to PGA Tour putting coach and GOLF contributor Stephen Sweeney. Sweeney responded that there’s a bit more to it for most accomplished golfers.
“I think once you get below, certainly in a single figure handicaps, you’re definitely leaving some meat on the bone there,” he said.

Sweeney explained that he often tells people who ask him about getting a new putter that the real keys are making putts inside of eight feet and speed control from 30 to 70 feet.
“If a PGA Tour pro makes 25-footers at a 12 percent clip rate, if a consumer only makes, or a regular golfer only makes 2 percent of their 25-footers, they’re only 10% worse than a tour pro,” Sweeney said. “I mean, there’s no other area of the game that you’d say, ‘Hey, I’m only 10 percent worse than a tour pro, right?’ But you could be legitimately — from 4 to 8 feet, — you could be 40-50 percent worse than a tour pro.”
His point is that pros make so few of their 25-footers; looking at how many 25-footers you can make with a new putter is irrelevant.
What really matters is making short putts and not three-putting long ones.
“And on distance putting, you could be 70-80 percent worse than a tour pro on your proximity,” he continued. “So that mid-range level of putting is not that important to the average golfer, but… 3 to 8 feet and then outside 30, you need something sure, you can aim, you can start online, you can hit out of the center, but there’s definitely a weight component there for the speed putting, that I think the average consumer with a 7-handicap, they don’t match that up fully to take full advantage of what they’re investing in.”
So the next time you’re looking for a new putter, don’t go trying to make 10-20 footers. Make sure you can make the shorter ones and your speed control is good on the long ones.

Aces make crucial free throws, hold off Lynx

Mandatory Credit: David Gonzales-Imagn Images A’ja Wilson made the go-ahead free throw with 20.5 seconds remaining, and the host Las Vegas Aces held on for a 100-97 win over the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday night.
Wilson scored a team-high 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting for Las Vegas (10-3), which improved to 5-0 in WNBA Commissioner’s Cup action. She also grabbed game highs of 10 rebounds and three blocks and tallied two steals.
Chelsea Gray added 23 points and drained six 3-pointers for the Aces. Jackie Young recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists, and NaLyssa Smith scored 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting.
Rookie Olivia Miles scored 29 points on 11-for-20 shooting to lead Minnesota (10-3). The Lynx fell to 4-1 in the Commissioner’s Cup standings.
Teammate Natasha Howard just missed a double-double as she finished with 22 points and nine rebounds. Kayla McBride scored 19 points and led the Lynx with five assists.
Las Vegas held a four-point lead after Wilson knocked down a jump shot to put the Aces on top 93-89 with 1:24 to go in the game.
Moments later, Miles scored to pull the Lynx within 93-91 with 1:20 remaining.
Miles was not finished trying to rally the Lynx. She converted a three-point play with a basket and a free throw to give Minnesota a 94-93 lead with 48 seconds left. The free-throw contest continued when Jewell Loyd was fouled while trying to take a 3-pointer for Las Vegas. She calmly made all three of her free throws, and the Aces regained a 96-94 lead with 44.3 seconds to go.
Miles made what turned out to be the final basket for Minnesota with 24.5 seconds left. Her 3-pointer gave the Lynx a 97-96 advantage.
Wilson changed the lead for good. She made two free throws to put Las Vegas ahead 98-97 with 20.5 seconds to go, and Gray added two more free throws to increase the Aces’ lead to 100-97 with 3.5 seconds left.
Minnesota had a last-ditch 3-point attempt but Courtney Williams missed a 37-footer. Las Vegas led 57-51 at the half.

Former 49ers pass rusher Aldon Smith dead at 36, San Francisco says
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Former NFL player and college football standout Aldon Smith died at the age of 36, his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, announced.
“We are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith,” the team said in a statement.

“Aldon’s undeniable talent and sheer dominance on the field were on display from the moment he joined our organization, having recorded one of the best rookie seasons the National Football League has seen. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into. Our entire organization sends its deepest condolences to the Smith family and all who knew and loved Aldon.”
Smith’s NFL career was defined by historic, unprecedented early dominance that was derailed by off-the-field and substance abuse issues.
Drafted seventh overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 out of Missouri, Smith had one of the most explosive starts for a defensive player in NFL history. As a situational pass rusher in his rookie year, he racked up 14.0 sacks.

In his second season in 2012, Smith set a 49ers franchise record with 19.5 sacks, earned First-Team All-Pro honors, and helped lead the team to Super Bowl XLVII. Notably, he reached 30 career sacks in just 27 games, becoming the fastest player in NFL history to hit that milestone, breaking a record previously held by Hall of Famer Reggie White.
But then in 2013, he voluntarily entered rehab and missed five games. In 2014, he served a nine-game suspension for violations of the NFL’s substance abuse and personal conduct policies.
In 2015, the 49ers released Smith in August following his third DUI arrest. He signed with the Oakland Raiders a month later, playing nine games before the NFL handed down a one-year suspension in November. Smith remained indefinitely suspended from the NFL for four full seasons as he dealt with continued legal and personal troubles.
Smith made a comeback in 2020 when he successfully applied for reinstatement, and played a full season for the Dallas Cowboys. He started all 16 games, recording 5.0 sacks and 48 tackles.

No cause of death has been immediately disclosed.

Japan coach takes responsibility for Wataru Endo going home
Japan’s Wataru Endo, left, works with his team during practice at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tenn., on June 8, 2026. Two days after Japanese captain Wataru Endo withdrew from the World Cup due to an ankle injury, his coach Hajime Moriyasu told reporters that he took responsibility for the decision.
Following his withdrawal, Endo announced his retirement from international competition altogether.
Moriyasu spoke with the media through an interpreter on Saturday, saying it was ultimately his responsibility.
“As the head coach, I was the one who made the final decision,” Moriyasu said.
The 33-year-old Liverpool midfielder had been dealing with an ankle injury that required surgery in February. Endo was hoping to be fit for the competition in North America, but experienced discomfort and played only the first half in a May 31 tune-up friendly against Iceland.
“I’d been receiving reports from the medical staff. During the game with Iceland, he was not able to perform on the pitch for a long time,” Moriyasu added. “We had him try as best as he could and also had the medical staff looking after him. We discussed that throughout the World Cup, it may be difficult for him to perform for the entire period of the games, therefore I made the final decision looking at his condition.
“It felt really bad for me to give him such a message. Of course, it’s impossible to know exactly how he felt or know what his thoughts were, but he was very understanding and respectful and we could maintain our good conversation in a cool manner.”
Japan open Group F play against Netherlands on Sunday in Arlington, Texas. Endo has scored four goals in 73 caps for Japan since his 2015 debut with the national team. He helped the team reach the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“As announced, I will be stepping away from the World Cup squad,” Endo wrote on social media earlier in the week. “With this campaign, I will be retiring from the national team. So from here on, I’ll be cheering for the Japan national team as one of the fans.
“The moment when the Japan national team wins the World Cup will surely come some day. Let’s believe in that and cheer them on together.”
Shuto Machino, a striker for Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach, replaced Endo on the 26-man World Cup roster. Japan will also face Tunisia on June 20 in Guadalupe, Mexico, and Sweden on June 25 in Arlington, Texas.

Curacao can shock Germany on World Cup debut, says Advocaat
Curacao coach Dick Advocaat believes the tiny Caribbean island can “steal some points” from four-time winners Germany on their tournament debut on Sunday.
The 78-year-old Dutchman will also become the oldest coach in World Cup history and will take charge of a third different nation at a World Cup after the Netherlands and South Korea.
Despite his vast experience in both the club and international game, Advocaat said the team spirit that has carried a nation of just 160,000 to the World Cup is the best he has seen.
“The team spirit in this team is something I’ve never seen before. As a country we will give everything to win for the island, but we’re not the favourite,” Advocaat said at his pre-match press conference on Saturday.
“When you are participating with the Netherlands or a bigger team, you are one of the favourites. Now it is just amazing to be a part of this.
“We would like to show them what we can do and what we’re worth. And for the island of Curacao, it is amazing what we have shown the people over the past two years.”
A daunting task awaits Advocaat’s side.
As well as facing Germany in Group E, they will take on an Ecuador side that finished second in South American qualifying and African powerhouses Ivory Coast.
“I think we will have to steal some points, but in a legitimate way. We want to show them that we have a good plan,” added Advocaat
“Germany will be the dominant team and that is normal.”
Curacao’s carefree attitude has already won admirers online with players singing and dancing bare-chested on the team bus in a viral social media post.
“We are a nation that we love to have a little bit of a party as well,” said captain Leandro Bacuna. “We love to have fun.”
Bacuna, like most of his team-mates, was born in the Netherlands but is proud of his heritage and the achievement of putting Curacao on the map.
“People sometimes say I’m not really from Curacao. But these are people, my parents, who had been looking for opportunities and these opportunities are not always present on Curacao,” added the former Aston Villa midfielder.
“But we are Curacaoans and we love Curacao!”

World Cup 2026: Has Vinicius Jr brilliance just papered over the Brazilian cracks?
Vinicius’ goal was a moment of breathtaking beauty we have come to expect from the outstanding talent.
Will he kick on and write his name into Brazilian folklore?
“The expectation was for him, by now, to have become the Selecao’s leading figure,” said Brazilian football expert Marcus Alves.
“Yet, four years on from a penalty shootout exit against Croatia in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals, doubts remain around him.”
However, there can be no doubting the quality of his goal here – his 10th for Brazil, with three of those coming on US soil.
“This is where Vinicius Jr comes into his own,” former England goalkeeper Joe Hart told BBC One.
“He was quiet in the game, of course he was, but you can’t criticise players like this on the big stage.
“He cuts in, smashes it past Bono. What a moment.”
Vinicius talked on Friday about how this was “the most important time in my life and career”.
“I feel great freedom and sincere trust from Ancelotti. He is sure I can do for the national team what I do for Real Madrid,” he added.
“I want to try to write the history of the country and the national team. We must do everything to win.”
Brazil came up short against Morocco.
Failure at this tournament, after a 24-year title drought, would lead to serious questions about how the most successful team in World Cup history moves forward.
