The official trailer for CBS’ Cupertino just gave fans their first look at the legal drama featuring Busy Philipps, who appears in a surprising role following her health challenges.

CBS’ Wednesday, September 9, sneak peek featured “a scrappy lawyer takes on a powerful tech giant in a high-stakes legal battle, navigating the cutthroat world of Silicon Valley while fighting for justice and the little guy’s rights,” according to the official synopsis.

Mike Colter and Rachel Keller lead the cast as their characters rebound after they were cut loose from their tech-related jobs, creating their own firm to help those going up against Silicon Valley’s powerful conglomerates.

Philipps, 47, appears in several scenes as Natalie. In a previously released character description, Natalie is described as “the beautiful and delightfully blunt first wife of an AI Billionaire, who divorced her when she turned forty. Now Natalia wants revenge and agrees to finance Michael and Olivia’s start-up law firm in order to go after his and other AI businesses.”

Crew Girl, Netflix’s newest teen soap, has all the predictable trappings: excessive voiceover narration, quiet luxury, and love interests with abs you could grate Parmesan on. It’s squeezing eight episodes of drama out of a different, though just as niche, school sport, and that’s the action that actually works. Crew Girl is cheesier than its competition, with a weaker love triangle and rougher performances — but, oddly enough, the rowing itself is good. In fact, it might be the only thing keeping the season from completely sinking.

What Is ‘Crew Girl’ About?

Crew Girl follows Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau), a 16-year-old rowing prodigy whose life is dismantled in the pilot’s first 10 minutes. She wins a singles’ sculls race as her parents — Ella (Jessica Paré), a woman who runs exclusively on positive vibes, and David (Byron Lawson), a hotelier embezzling funds from his friend group — cheer from the sidelines. Then, the FBI rushes in to let us all know that Teagan’s dad is about to become a headline. What follows is a familiar spiral into downward mobility, complete with a move to mom’s dumpy coastal hometown of Eagle’s Cove, and a dilapidated house in desperate need of an exorcism.

Eagle’s Cove exists somewhere on the Atlantic coast, in that Netflix rendering where old money has colonized every square inch of shoreline. The kids at Easton Prep, Teagan’s new school, arrive by chopper and spend their summers piling up crypto fortunes. Teagan gawks at it all. Her old life of private hotels and pay-to-play athletics was itself a tour of privilege, but the show treats her as an outsider anyway, hoping we won’t notice. At Easton, of course, there’s no girls’ rowing team, which means Teagan’s only option for staying on the water is to take the tiller of the boys’ varsity eight as their coxswain. Like every member of the 99 percent, we too did not know the meaning of that sentence before finishing this series. So, in layman’s terms, she’s in charge of steering the damn boat.

Half the season is Teagan grinding against ingrained misogyny for scraps of respect; the other half is the camera treating those same boys like a very generous buffet, complete with heaping helpings of shirtless, sweaty rowing-machine choreography set to EDM thumpers. It’s the kind of eye candy that starved fan-edit accounts are going to make a whole meal out of. Crew Girl, and we mean this affectionately, knows its audience. Every sport, as the running theory goes, can be gay if you squint hard enough, and this show is operating with its eyes glued shut.

Netflix’s ‘Crew Girl’ Has a One-Sided Love Triangle and a Family Plot That Won’t Quit

The love triangle here is where things get thin. Josh Regis (Sam Braun) is the standard arrogant prep-school captain, and Braun doesn’t add anything to the template. Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark), the quiet underdog with a chip on his shoulder, is more interesting. And Clark plays him that way, with a mix of sincerity and edge that only makes the romance more lopsided. You quickly get the feeling that one side of this triangle is doing all the work.

The family plot drags too. Every teen soap seems to feel it needs shitty parents to justify the kids acting out, and Crew Girl leans on that too hard. The FBI subplot, the mom-daughter fallout, the absentee dad… none of it goes anywhere, and all of it pulls focus from the team dynamics that should be driving the show. Paré is the only adult in the cast who can actually act her way through the material, and she even struggles to make sense of why the camera’s spending so much time on characters drinking Pinot in airplane hangars instead of Oakley-armed meatheads in tiny little boats.

We’re wondering too, because, weirdly, the boathouse is the only place Crew Girl works. The rowing scenes are the surprise. Someone in the production clearly cares about the sport, and you can see it in every frame on the water. The coxswain moments, especially, with Teagan barking splits, reading the water, and correcting a stroke rate, are shot with the kind of care the show doesn’t bother to bring anywhere else. And the Haverford Cup arc in the back half is the closest the series gets to earning its plot. It’s not Friday Night Lights, obviously, but by the end, we were Googling what an erg is, and that’s more than most eight-episode teen soaps get out of anyone.

None of this makes Crew Girl good. The love triangle lacks spark, the dialogue is stiff, and outside of Clark and, to a lesser extent, Martineau, the cast is mostly just hitting marks. There are no teeth to the rich-kid satire or real stakes to the familial subplots. But if you’re the person this was built for — a YA romance junkie with a yacht club membership — it’s fine. Not what Netflix wants it to be, not as bad as it could have been.

The stark contrast between Paul and his older brother Norman only works because of Pitt’s on-screen charisma, and the two often stand antithetical to one another as brothers often do. Some may consider it one of Pitt’s most underrated features, but perhaps the best way to describe it is underappreciated.

There are few movies that capture such a distinct yet beautiful time in American history better than A River Runs Through It. Set in Montana at the turn of the 20th century, it chronicles not just the boyhood of Norman and Paul, but how their paths diverged in adulthood. Redford — in one of his greatest works of cinematic art — was able to do the impossible here by constructing a truly breathtaking snapshot in time, pulling directly from the first-hand accounts of the real-life Norman that float right off the page. It’s hard to describe just how A River Runs Through It can touch deep into one’s soul, which is perhaps why Taylor Sheridan honored the idea himself in The Madison.

Martinez went on to share that she utilizes the match with confidence curriculum, which requires “very little prep” on her end. For reading, she borrows “BOB books for Franklin and various Level 1 reading books for Ruth from the library” and uses the Reading.com app.

“I like the Charlotte Mason approach to history, which is basically just using regular picture books and historical fiction stories to teach about events throughout time,” she wrote. “It was important to me to find a curriculum that included perspectives outside of the traditional colonialist narrative and without a heavily religious slant, and I was struggling!”

As for science, Martinez explained that the family is using books from the library and children’s nature magazines, while they use the Handwriting Without Tears workbooks. While sharing the details, Martinez also uploaded several photos of her eldest kids smiling beside a stack of books.

An influencer known for his efforts to catch alleged child predators is facing charges after being stabbed during an altercation with a person he accused of trying to meet with a minor, according to reports.

Nicholas Attalla, who goes by “Niky Sal” on social media, was reportedly stabbed while confronting two men at a Tim Hortons in Jamestown, New York, in December 2025, according to police, WIVB-TV reported. Attalla, of Pennsylvania, tries to catch potential child predators by posing as minors online.

He’s described as a “child predator hunter” on his Facebook page, which has nearly 50,000 followers.

While at the Tim Hortons in December, Attalla accused one of the men, James Morris, of trying to meet with a 14-year-old girl and allegedly threatened him, according to Jamestown police, per WIVB-TV.

As a result, a fight broke out between Attalla, Morris and the other man, leading to Morris allegedly stabbing Attalla, police said, according to WGRZ. Attalla was hospitalized in connection with the incident.

The physical altercation endangered a 1-year-old child who had been at the Tim Hortons with their family, according to police, per the TV station.

Now, Attalla is charged with second-degree criminal nuisance, endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree assault, according to authorities, WIVB-TV reported.

Morris was previously charged in January with first-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, according to the outlet. Like Attalla, Morris and the other man involved in the alleged altercation, Eric Spencer, have since been charged with second-degree criminal nuisance and endangering the welfare of a child.

During the investigation, authorities didn’t find any evidence indicating Attalla, Morris or Spencer had communicated with each other on their phones before the Tim Hortons encounter, according to Erie News Now.

Attalla turned himself in to Jamestown police on Friday, September 4, according to the outlet. He required surgery as a result of the stabbing, according to a GoFundMe created in December to support him with his medical bills.

The page said “Niky was stabbed during a catch” and that he had “no feeling in his arm” in December.

On Attalla’s “Niky Sal” Facebook page, he shares videos of alleged child predator “catches.”

Information regarding whether Attalla, Morris or Spencer had retained legal counsel or entered pleas wasn’t immediately available.

Jamestown is about a 70-mile drive southwest from Buffalo.

In her sit-down with InStyle, Meg was as candid about wanting to expand her Hot Girl Universe as her breakup. She admitted to journalist Jason Sheeler that she’s still “trying [her] best” about how she’s feeling now. The interview, by the way, took place in mid-July.

“I feel like I’ve been put through the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels and a cactus,” Thee Stallion told InStyle.

God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you. I think I just kept trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong, trying to fit myself into someone else’s life. I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” Megan told InStyle.
