‘Cobra Kai’ and ‘The Rookie’ Stars Join Comedian Bobby Ulrich In ‘Clout’
Comedian Bobby Ulrich is coming for the influencer economy, and he didn’t come alone.
Ulrich Entertainment Worldwide has announced the streaming debut of “Clout,” a new scripted comedy that goes behind the filters and the fame to skewer the manufactured personas and viral obsession driving social media culture today.
Ulrich Built The Show From The Ground Up

Ulrich created, wrote, produced, and stars in “Clout.” He’s currently out on the road doing stand-up as an opener for Tiffany Haddish, and the “Girls Trip” star has already put her support for the project on the record, reacting to the trailer on her Instagram page.
“Social media has become one of the most outrageous phenomena in modern society. Everyone’s chasing likes, followers, and fame, so I figured it was finally time someone made fun of it,” Ulrich said.
Cobra Kai And The Rookie Alums Round Out The Cast

Ulrich is joined on screen by Rayna Vallandingham, known to Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” audience, who takes on the female lead role, and Titus Makin Jr., who fans will recognize from ABC’s “The Rookie.”
Behind the camera, the series is directed by Riker Lynch, a Billboard-charting recording artist and Cannes Film Festival winner. Tai Savet, executive producer of VH1’s “Love & Listings,” is executive producing. Tribeca One Distribution is handling distribution, with Tyler Maddox involved in getting the project out to audiences.
A Full Season Could Be Next

The pilot has already generated enough buzz to get a bigger conversation started.
“The first pilot did so well, we’re now in talks about doing a full season, with A-list talent already in the works,” Savet said.
“Clout” leans directly into the absurdities of modern creator culture, from the chase for followers and viral fame to the increasingly blurred line between someone’s real life and the version they’re selling to millions of people online.
With Haddish publicly in its corner, a cast pulling from television, comedy, and entertainment, and a full season already being discussed, the pilot may be just the start for “Clout.”

‘Street Fighter’ Chun-Li Stunt Double Wore Padding to Match Callina Liang’s Physique
Apparently recreating Chun-Li’s iconic physique for the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie created an unusual problem for the stunt team.
During a recent Street Fighter press event, director Kitao Sakurai and Chun-Li actress Callina Liang shared a story about Liang’s stunt double needing additional padding to more closely match the actress’ physique while performing as the legendary fighter.
Liang underwent significant physical training for the role, with previous reporting detailing an intensive regimen designed to build the lower-body strength associated with Chun-Li. She has spoken about training in multiple martial arts disciplines and substantially increasing the size of her legs while preparing for the film.
The physical transformation is part of Liang’s effort to bring one of gaming’s most recognizable fighters to live action. Chun-Li has been known for her powerful legs and kicking attacks since becoming the franchise’s first playable female fighter in Street Fighter II.
Liang stars alongside Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken and Jason Momoa as Blanka in the new adaptation.
Street Fighter is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Widow Reveals $700K Mortgage Debt
Malcolm-Jamal Warner‘s widow, Tenisha Warner, claimed she is at “risk” of losing her Georgia home due to mounting debt.
According to court documents obtained by Us on Wednesday, September 9, Tenisha, 48, revealed that the home she and daughter MacKenzie, 9, has a “significant mortgage of approximately $700,000 in debt” following Malcolm’s death last year.
“Without adequate funding, Tenisha and MacKenzie risk losing their Georgia home,” the docs read.
Tenisha alleged her mother-in-law, Pamela Warner, “relies on what she calls ‘a separate trust in Georgia (the Grace Holdings Trust) wherein Malcolm purchased a residence for his wife, Tenisha and his daughter,’ as if Malcolm, Tenisha, and MacKenzie did not live in that Georgia home together as a family while he was alive.” She insisted the Georgia home is the “sole asset” of that alleged trust.
Tenisha also claimed that her mother-in-law sold the California home that Malcolm intended to leave her. (Pamela was named the successor trustee of Malcolm-Jamal’s Warner Family Trust.)
“Malcolm intended to leave his family’s California home to Tenisha and MacKenzie, but instead, Pamela sold the home and converted it to cash now held by the 1996 Trust,” the docs alleged. “This is the home where MacKenzie, Tenisha, and Malcolm first lived and where MacKenzie developed the core memories of her father.”
Tenisha claimed that she and MacKenzie can’t fathom not having the Georgia house “after already losing their California home.”
Tenisha also alleged that she “was instructed to stop submitting household bills for payment, and no further funds were made available for the family’s support” after Pamela “sought appointment as executor of Malcolm’s estate.”
“Tenisha sacrificed her career to raise and homeschool their daughter, MacKenzie, and support Malcolm’s career, leaving the family dependent on Malcolm’s income and assets,” the docs read. “The sudden termination of that support left Tenisha, while grieving her husband, solely responsible for the family’s mortgage, utilities, taxes, insurance, medical expenses, food, transportation, and their daughter’s education and activities.”
Us had reached out to Tenisha and Pamela’s lawyers for comment.
The former Cosby Show actor died in July 2025 after an accidental drowning while on vacation with his wife and daughter in Costa Rica. He was 54.
Earlier this year, Tenisha filed a lawsuit against Pamela claiming that she was entitled to $1.2 million, which was the alleged equivalent of what her late husband promised her as part of their premarital agreement. TMZ reported in August that Pamela reached a settlement with her granddaughter’s representatives, stating that the agreement “provides for Malcolm’s daughter to receive the majority remainder of the Trust and Estate.”
Last month, Tenisha honored Malcolm on what would have been his 56th birthday.
“Every year we spent his birthday at home, just the three of us,” Tenisha wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of her and MacKenzie standing in a room filled with stuffed animals and a “happy birthday” banner on the wall. “He always said that was all he needed because it brought him the most joy to begin every new year of his life with us. The only other guests were our daughter’s dolls and stuffed animals. Every single one was lined up in the dining room to celebrate with him.”

Big Brother: Dee Fumes, Angela Embarrasses Melo-Drew & Vote Twist
Big Brother live feeds update has really good stuff, plus an eviction prediction for tomorrow night. Let’s get into Dee Valladares‘s fit of rage and Angela Murray tormenting Melody and Drew because of what she saw them do in the pool.
Big Brother: Angela Calls Out Melody and Drew
Angela plopped down next to Melody Morris and Drew Campbell and ruined their day. Angela said she saw what they were doing in the pool. She told Melody and Drew you aren’t hiding anything. Melody said you saw us playing footsies.
Angela said she’d keep it secret. Melody said she didn’t want anybody to know she was playing footsies with Drew because his feet are gross. Angela said they had a lot to drink. Then, Drew laughingly snapped at Angela “go to bed.”
She told Melo-Drew it keeps her hopeful and Melody said, “Probably other people are hopeful too.” Angela cam-talked “Guys, help me out, make them [makes smooch noises].”
Big Brother 28: Dee Doesn’t Care About Rules?
First, Dee should get a penalty vote if she’s on the block after the Big Brother Blockbuster. This is her second major Have-Not offense. Seven weeks ago, on Kamu Kirk‘s HOH, Dee was a Have-Not and at Kamu’s HOH candy stash.
This week, Dee’s a Have-Not again, and is back to rule breaking. Yesterday, she took a bin of hot water into the cold Have-Not shower with her. The rules say cold shower. It’s a punishment. Big Brother should hit Dee with a penalty vote.
The last time I remember a penalty vote was against Matt Clines in BB19. But he deliberately ate real food and took hot showers, chasing a penalty vote, so he’d be evicted instead of his showmance Raven.
Also, Dee cam-talked that she didn’t mean what she said at the veto meeting that she doesn’t care about winning Big Brother because she already won Survivor. Dee said that was just for game play reasons. She cried and says she really does want to win. Dee also had a meltdown, saying she wants to “burn this house down.”
Strange Pranks in the BB28 House
Dee played a bizarre prank, deliberately trying to scare Barrett Pfeiffer and Drew. Dee spelled out RIP in M&M’s on a segment of the Have-Not bed. And then she made a weird sort of symbol that you couldn’t tell what it was.
Angela was watching and giggling as Dee spelled RIP and joked about adding B&D below it. Then Dee laid a weird torture shackle by the symbol. She told Rick Devens the symbol doesn’t mean anything. It’s just to mess with Barrett and Drew.
Yash Patel and Drew looked at it and were kind of freaked. Drew called it a shrine. And Dee said she’d never tell them what it means, like how they don’t know who bit the hot dog. Angela lied and said Dee told her what it meant.
But Angela also told Drew she would’ve figured it out. Melody went off about it representing the F2 and the jury. Yash told Taylor Brown who knows and “that ain’t for this to figure out”.
Big Brother: Chaos in the Comics
It felt to me like Big Brother body-shamed Barrett with his Big Brother comic. They drew him so much skinnier than he really is. Like bone-skinny. That’s the equivalent of drawing someone a little chunky as really obese.
Also speaking of the comics. Yash’s was The Skullet. Named for his hair-do. Devens was Diamond Devens which is just okay. Taylor’s was Pod Almighty. I figured it’d be a pod thing. Angela’s was Eggs-ecutioner. Dee’s was Dee-stroyer.
Drew was Rebel Without a Comb. That would be so much funnier if the casuals knew that Taylor stole his hairbrush. Melody’s was lame but then again, she’s not done much this season. So, a toilet themed comic is appropriate.
Lala‘s was disturbing. It was the tongue thrasher from the 80’s themed competition she won. If they were being real, it would’ve been a comic of her cooking and cleaning while Drew and Devens sat waiting to be fed.
Haley Thogmartin‘s was the Flanimal. Mallory’s was predictable – pipe queen – but I love the Game of Thrones inspiration behind it. Kamu’s was Mixed Martial Artist showing him shirtless painting a portrait.
Chuk Anyanwu‘s was funny. It called him Chuk Wagon and had him as a cowboy. That’s not the funny part. On the left was a sign that says “Welcome to Dull City”. That was maybe the funniest thing on the comics.
Lyric Medeiros‘s was the One Hit Wonder which is sad since it wasn’t even about her, it was about her dad Glenn Medeiros. Jason De Puy‘s was Heavy Kettle and looked like an Avatar teapot robot. Rome Seymour‘s was the Rome-ancer with him playing pickleball. Meh. Ashley Trail‘s was Burger Kong. Also, Meh.

Big Brother 28: Mallory is Not Into Barrett
Barret said when he was watching Survivor 50 a few months ago, “if you told me that the guy that flipped the Mr. Beast coin [Devens] was going to accost me in front of the Big Brother House this summer, I would’ve thought you were lying”.
Also, Julie Chen had Mallory on her podcast and said, “I thought there might’ve been a romance brewing between you and Barrett?” And with zero hesitation, Mallory said no and accompanied that with a head shake.
It’s Barrett’s 28th birthday and Angela and Devens made up a little song for him. Angela hugged him and Barrett went to get his birthday hug from Devens. But he told Barrett he didn’t want to get him sick but he didn’t care and hugged Devens anyway.
He sounds bad like the cold moved into his chest. After tawkward silence, Barrett made small talk asking, “How did you sleep?” Turns out Barrett slept fine but Angela and Devens didn’t because production left the lights on until 2 A.M. Angela plans to complain.
Then, Barrett was hiding out alone upstairs and cam-talked to pre-jurors saying they were fun to play the game with. Barrett said he knows he needs to go socialize with the others, but then he didn’t go. But he’s going to force himself to do it.
Big Brother: Current Vote Counts
Okay, let’s talk about the current vote count in the house for tomorrow’s live eviction. There’s five votes so that means three to evict. Barrett says his HOH will be a waste if Angela goes this week. He really wants Dee or Devens gone.
So, if it’s the ropes or something physical and Dee wins the Big Brother Blockbuster, then it’ll be Angela versus Devens. If so, Drew and Dee likely evict Angela. Taylor, Melody and Yash will likely evict Devens.
Even knowing where the others are voting, I doubt Drew or Dee will vote with the house. Because voting against Devens would hurt their hearts. Dee laid groundwork trying to protect her jury vote by telling Angela she wants to throw Devens a pity vote.
If Angela wins, and it’s Dee versus Devens for the eviction vote, it’ll be a wider margin. Drew will vote to evict Dee most likely since he doesn’t want to cast a vote against Devens. And Melody, Angela, Yash and Taylor will likely evict Devens.
Now let’s talk about Barrett’s worst nightmare. It starts with Devens winning the Big Brother Blockbuster. I worry with him being sick, he won’t perform well in any kind of competition that’s anything but pure luck. And if it’s Angela versus Dee on the block, it might be unanimous to save Dee.

What Has Donald Trump Said About Lindsay Clancy Case?
Lindsay Clancy’s attorney has taken the extraordinary step of asking President Donald Trump for a pardon after the Massachusetts mother’s murder case ended in a mistrial — and while the White House has not responded, Trump himself has already weighed in on the high-profile case.
Kevin Reddington, who represented Clancy throughout her nearly seven-week trial, made the public appeal on the September 8, 2026, episode of Good Morning America, days after a 12-person jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision in the case of the mother charged with killing her three young children in January 2023.
“Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady and the person she is, what she’s been through, and consider a pardon,” Reddington said.
Donald Trump on the Lindsay Clancy Case
Trump addressed the Clancy case on the day the mistrial was declared, telling reporters that coverage of the trial was on “television so much” that it was “hard not to follow it.”
“Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can’t be worse,” Trump said of Clancy. “But you’ll find out what the price to pay is. There’ll be a price. It’s going to be mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they’re going to go through another trial. It’s too bad.”
The president’s remarks stopped well short of any indication he would consider clemency. And as of Reddington’s Good Morning America appearance, the White House had not responded to the attorney’s public pardon request.
Kevin Reddington’s Pardon Request Explained
Reddington’s appeal to Trump came after a jury deliberated for six days and more than 30 hours before deadlocking 11-1, with one male juror refusing to join the rest of the panel in a not-guilty verdict.
Clancy’s attorney told Good Morning America that he remained “upset” over how the case ended, placing the blame on the lone holdout juror.
“He had agreed, according to the note from the forelady, that he had doubt but he would not present the law of reasonable doubt as presented by the judge,” Reddington said. “That’s not right and that’s why I was upset.”
Asked about the possibility of a retrial, Reddington said he hoped Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz would reconsider pursuing the case again after sitting through the evidence presented over the course of the trial.
“He’s a very hard-charging prosecutor, a conservative gentleman,” Reddington said of Cruz. “I hope however after sitting through this trial and seeing the evidence that was presented from the government as well as from the defense, that he would revisit that issue and hopefully would be able to work something out that would be acceptable to both sides.”
Inside the Charges Against Lindsay Clancy
Clancy was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the January 2023 deaths of her three children Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. She pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors alleged Clancy fatally strangled the three children before attempting suicide by jumping out of a second-story window, an act that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Her defense team argued throughout the trial that she had been suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder before and at the time of the killings, and that she was not able to differentiate right from wrong.
Because of that, her attorneys argued, she should not be held criminally responsible for her children’s deaths.
Clancy faced the possibility of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. Had she been acquitted, she would likely have been sent to a secure state mental health facility.
District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s Response to the Mistrial Ruling
Cruz has so far declined to announce whether his office will pursue a retrial. Speaking outside the courthouse on September 4, 2026, after the mistrial ruling, the district attorney offered no concessions to the defense’s framing of the case.
“I appreciate the fact that there are strong feelings and opinions tied to this case,” Cruz said. “However, our job is to set aside our feelings and focus solely on the facts. The facts are Lindsay Clancy killed her three children and the evidence suggested to us that she was in control of her actions when she committed those homicides.”
Another hearing has been scheduled for September 29, 2026, as the future of the case remains unclear.
Kevin Reddington on Lindsay Clancy
In the moments after the mistrial was declared, Reddington delivered an emotional statement to reporters, defending both his client and his handling of the case.
“Well, obviously this is not a time for gloating or bragging, expressing victory. It’s a very sad case,” Reddington told reporters on September 4, 2026. “[Plymouth County District Attorney] Cruz knows that he was crushed, that he doesn’t have a case, he doesn’t have to stand here and say that he’s advocating on behalf of the victims and then look down to see what their names are.”
The attorney went on to describe Clancy as a courageous person who had endured nearly seven weeks of testimony while confined to a wheelchair.
“I’m representing a woman who is a fantastic, wonderful individual. This woman is so brave; so awesome. Every day she came into this court house, stood tall — no pun intended, the poor thing is in a wheelchair as we all know for the rest of her life — sat there through seven weeks of a trial where nobody had anything bad to say about her except for the two prosecutors and apparently Tim Cruz.”
Reddington also spoke about how Clancy responded any time her three children were mentioned during the proceedings.
“It’s not right what she had to go through, because she grieves the loss of those three children, Cora, Dawson and Callan, because I know their names. I don’t have to look down on a piece of paper and find out what their names are,” he said. “Every time somebody had something to say about those young kids, Lindsay would smile and say, ‘I’m glad.’ She wants them to be remembered.”
The attorney was pointed in his criticism of the lone juror who refused to acquit, saying the other jurors were “robbed” of the outcome the majority had reached.
“They know that they were robbed … he stole seven weeks of the life of these other jurors who were so attentive … so wonderful … you could see how defeated they were sitting there,” Reddington said. “I have a funny feeling they would have gone on for another week. So I hope that guy can sleep at night.”
Reddington added that Clancy was “not good” following the mistrial, and neither were her parents.
“Lindsay is very very very strong, she is a very very intelligent young woman, very emotionally invested and just a classic example of a tragic … her life is a tragedy,” he said.

Patriots QB Drake Maye and Wife Ann’s Relationship Timeline
Drake Maye was one of the first players picked in the 2024 NFL draft, and his then-girlfriend, Ann Michael Maye, was by his side when he joined the New England Patriots.
“Drake, words cannot describe how proud I am of you,” Ann gushed via Instagram in April 2024. “What an incredible blessing it has been to be by your side through all of this❤️ I love you and can’t wait for this next chapter!”
Drake, who previously was the quarterback for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, was drafted by the Patriots in the first round. While making strides on the football field, Drake and Ann got engaged in January 2025 before tying the knot that June.
The newlyweds had a wild first year of marriage, including Drake leading the Patriots to his first Super Bowl appearance with a win against the Denver Broncos in January 2026. November 2025
During the 2025-2026 NFL season Ann started to go viral on TikTok for her cooking skills — especially when her videos featured her husband or were about feeding the football player.
A November 5 video of Ann’s spiced apple cider donut loaf was viewed more than 175,000 times within one week and received more than 550 comments.
“Ann love the baked goods but make sure Drake doesn’t overindulge. Need him to be quick on his feet,” one fan replied. “Thank you for taking care of Drake Maye, First Lady of New England,” another read.
The following month, Ann hosted a “Merry Bakemas” baking countdown where she cooked a sweet treat or bread ahead of the holidays. Drake was a frequent taste tester and guest in the TikTok series.
January 2026
Drake gave fans a glimpse at his home life with Ann during a January 21 press conference, revealing they are both pretty competitive.
“She started playing mahjong,” Drake said. “I haven’t gotten into that. Something like that. Playing Battleship or cards or anything that goes off of me playing her.”
He noted that the couple picked up playing tennis in the offseason and love to make a game out of it. “She’ll try anything we can compete in. She’s a great athlete,” Drake added.
Later that month, Ann was by Drake’s side when he led the Patriots to a victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game, securing a spot in Super Bowl LX — the first of his career.
While most fans were thrilled to see the Pats make their way back to the big game, others couldn’t stop talking about Drake’s body language towards Ann after the January 25 victory.

“Why does he always seem so standoffish around her? She was so excited,” one user wrote in the comments section after the NFL shared a video of Ann congratulating Drake after the game where he appeared to be looking everywhere but at his wife who is trying to hug him.
A separate user noted, “He looks like he couldn’t care less that she’s there — and this is coming from a die hard patriots fan. It hardly looks like a couple celebrating going to the Super Bowl. Awkward.”
“I’m sure that he loves her. He’s just locked in,” one fan wrote in defense of the player. “He knows that he has one more game to win.”
Ann, for her part, didn’t appear to be phased by the critics, sharing her own celebratory post via Instagram on January 26.
“WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!❤️💙❤️💙 Words can’t even begin to describe how proud I am of you, #10!!!! Watching your dreams come true is the biggest blessing and I love you!!!!!” she captioned a series of photos with Drake, who looked happy to be by her side.
February 2026
Drake addressed a question about getting married when he was just 22 years old during Super Bowl media availability, explaining, “My teammates have the right to whatever they choose but I would definitely advise them to eventually get married. It’s one of the best things I’ve experienced in my life. There’s no better feeling than coming home to a wife that loves you and cares for you.”
He continued, “I know my teammates, some of them are experiencing different parts of their life. I chose to get married young, and I don’t regret it one bit.”
That same month, Ann showed Drake some love after the Patriots lost Super Bowl 2026.
“Not how we wanted it to end but still thanking God for this incredible season❤️,” she wrote via Instagram on February 11, sharing photos from the big game. “We are blessed to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people, who made this season what it was. This is only the beginning!!”
March 2026

After a whirlwind 2025-2026 football season, the Mayes jetted off to Japan for a well-earned vacation. Ann documented their trip via social media in early March.
April 2026

Drake and Ann headed to Georgia to watch the 2026 Masters Tournament. “I love @themasters ⛳️💚,” Ann wrote via Instagram alongside several photos on the green with her husband.
August 2026
Shortly after their 1st wedding anniversary, Ann Michael opened up about the most significant obstacle the couple has been forced to navigate during married life.
“Moving to somewhere so completely different, being away from all of our friends and family is probably the most challenging part,” she exclusively told Us. “Luckily, we have great teammates and great friends here that have really made the New England area feel like home, which is great.”
She continued, “But you know, we’re both from North Carolina. Our parents live in the same neighborhood, and then we went to college in North Carolina, so we were never too far from family. That’s been the biggest adjustment.”

Inside Phaedra Parks, CT Tamburello’s Long-Distance Romance
Phaedra Parks and her The Traitors costar Chris “CT” Tamburello shocked the reality TV world when they revealed their romance — but rest assured, their relationship is legit.
“It’s definitely the real deal, and they’re really smitten with each other,” a source exclusively shares with Us. “They became really close on The Traitors, but CT never thought he actually had a chance with Phaedra.”
Phaedra, 52, and CT, 46, met while filming season 2 of Peacock’s hit reality show in 2023. Although the pair grabbed the attention of viewers with their palpable chemistry, which featured Phaedra calling her costar “castle daddy,” their platonic relationship didn’t evolve until recently.
“He always had a bit of a crush on her and was interested, but he really valued their friendship and never wanted to cross that line,” the source shares. “After his marriage ended, he and Phaedra started talking a lot more, and their relationship naturally grew from there.”
CT and his estranged wife, Catalina White, got married in 2024. She filed for divorce in January but eventually asked to dismiss the motion. CT later filed his own petition in June, claiming the pair’s marriage “is irretrievably broken.”
As CT navigates his ongoing divorce, the source reveals that Phaedra has been “such a positive influence on him.”
“She has really inspired him to live a healthier lifestyle,” the source explains. “He wants to take care of himself and be healthy for her and for this next chapter.”
Although Phaedra — who shares Ayden, 16, and Dylan, 13, with ex-husband Apollo Nida — made her red carpet debut with CT at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday, September 5, not everything about the romance will be made public.
“They haven’t blended families yet and are keeping that private,” the source shares. “Most of their relationship has been long-distance so far, but they have made it work and travel to see each other. CT and his ex are trying to resolve their split, and he hopes to close that chapter soon.”
Us has reached out to reps for Phaedra and CT for comment.
For now, the pair’s friends and costars are excited to see Phaedra and CT continue to cultivate their budding romance.
“Phaedra had mentioned that she was hanging out with CT to me a month or two ago, and I was like, ‘Wow, I love this.’ So, I was really happy,” Andy Cohen shared on the Tuesday, September 8, episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. “I wanted to be very kind of, not only discreet, but I didn’t want to pry, and I just was like, ‘Well, I guess if this keeps going, I’ll hear about it,’ and then we all heard about it.”

5 Dark Fantasy Books by Female Authors You Won’t Be Able To Put Down
The term dark fantasy can mean different things. Sometimes it’s a fairy tale with grim elements, or a world where magic comes with heavy drawbacks; the best books in the genre explore this by blending familiar fantasy elements with darker themes of power, identity, survival, and the sacrifices people will make.
The five works below offer different interpretations of dark fantasy. V.E. Schwab views a blessing of living forever as a curse, and T. Kingfisher takes an unexpected group of protagonists on a bloodthirsty adventure, while Chloe Gong presents a dystopia where the difference between the real world and virtual space is almost gone. Kim Liggett and R.F. Kuang explore even darker themes by examining brutal societies and warfare.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
V.E. Schwab’s The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue opens with one of those deals that seem amazing until you find out the catch. In 1714 France, Addie needs to avoid an arranged marriage, so she makes a deal with a strange entity named Luc. Addie wins everything she wants — freedom, immortality, and living life by her own rules. The cost of success is high, and any encounter with someone in the world ends with Addie being forgotten the moment she leaves their sight.
The book shifts between Addie’s current life and centuries spent wandering the Earth, leaving her traces over time through art, history, and brief encounters. The melancholy atmosphere is a huge part of the book’s appeal, particularly as Addie eventually encounters someone who can remember her. It’s an intimate, occasionally haunting story about wanting to leave some evidence behind that you existed. The book was also a 2021 Locus Award finalist and spent 37 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list.
Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher
T. Kingfisher’s Nettle & Bone takes the fairy tale and asks what happens when the princess decides she is done waiting for someone else to rescue her. Marra is the youngest of three princesses, but after her older sisters suffer under an abusive prince, she decides to intervene herself. The main issue that arises is that killing the prince is no simple task, so Marra must first complete an odd set of three tasks for a dust-wife: fashioning a cloak from nettles, constructing a dog made of bones, and capturing the moonlight in a jar.
Those adventures ultimately become even stranger, as they bring Marra into a world involving a gravewitch, a disgraced knight, a reluctant fairy godmother, and a chicken possessed by a demon. The author, Kingfisher, has a knack for making heavy topics fun, and Nettle & Bone never allows the dark topics to overshadow its warmth. While domestic violence, trauma, and impossible choices appear on the page, they run alongside a wonderfully peculiar family that gives the story more emotional depth than you would expect from a short book. The novel won Best Novel at the Hugo Awards in 2023, and its mix of horror, humor, and fairy-tale oddness is part of what makes it special.
Coldwire by Chloe Gong
Chloe Gong’s Coldwire pushes dark fantasy into cyberpunk territory, creating a future where humanity has been divided between two countries and, perhaps more importantly, two versions of reality. Society is split between “upcountry,” a virtual-reality existence, and “downcountry,” the physical world. Eirale, an orphan of war turned soldier, finds herself framed for an assassination and forced to help track down a dangerous program. While Lia attends military academy, she is assigned to team up with her rival to sneak behind enemy lines and locate AI weaponry.
This sets off a YA dystopian story where politics run rampant, the military is misused, AI is everywhere, and nothing can be trusted. The author takes an interesting approach, delving into corporate politics, diaspora, and the repercussions of living in a rapidly changing world. Coldwire is the first installment of a trilogy called StrangeLoom and has made the NYT and Sunday Times bestseller lists. The story takes a while to get going as it lays the foundation, then reveals a plot twist.
The Grace Year by Kim Liggett
Kim Liggett’s The Grace Year drops 16-year-old Tierney James into Garner County, an isolated society built around the belief that teenage girls possess a dangerous magic. According to the community’s rules, girls must spend their 16th year banished to the wilderness, where they are expected to release that supposed magic before returning home to marry. Tierney has always questioned the system, but surviving her own grace year forces her to confront how much cruelty the tradition is built on.
The wild is dangerous, but what is scarier is the system that teaches these girls to be wary of one another. They find themselves struggling with the harsh environment and poachers. The book captures the essence of a survival story like The Lord of the Flies, but it also makes its fight against the patriarchal system even more horrifying. The Grace Year is ultimately less interested in whether the girls can simply survive one terrible year than in what happens when an entire society convinces women that they are each other’s enemies.
The Poppy War — R.F. Kuang
R.F. Kuang’s The Poppy War, begins in a recognizable fantasy setting. The story follows Fang Runin, or Rin, a girl in a family that wants to marry her off, so she takes part in the Keju, the empire-wide test that can help her escape the situation she is in. Rin is accepted into the prestigious military academy after she surprisingly comes first in her province. At this institution, Rin realizes she can communicate with powerful gods in ways beyond her understanding.
However, the story soon takes a darker turn when, amid the military academy’s peaceful life, a vicious campaign begins after the Mugen Federation invades, opening the door to a war reminiscent of the most horrifying events in 20th-century Chinese history. Kuang draws from many real-life wars, such as the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Opium Wars, and reflects upon many aspects of colonialism. The novel has received two awards: the Crawford Award and the Compton Crook Award. This book is also the first in a trilogy that follows Rin through her trials and tribulations.

Sony CEO Gives Update on Spider-Man 5 Release Timeline
Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to rewrite the box office record books.
The latest Marvel and Sony blockbuster starring Tom Holland has now climbed to approximately $2.33 billion worldwide, pushing past Avatar: The Way of Water to become the third highest-grossing movie of all time at the global box office.
The film now trails only Avengers: Endgame and James Cameron’s original Avatar on the worldwide charts.
It is another staggering milestone for Brand New Day, which has been breaking records since arriving in theaters on July 31.
The film opened to more than $360 million domestically, the biggest domestic opening weekend ever, and quickly became the second-fastest movie in history to cross $1 billion worldwide. It later became just the eighth movie ever to reach $2 billion globally.
Its success hasn’t slowed much either. Brand New Day remained No. 1 at the domestic box office for a fifth consecutive weekend, adding another $22 million and bringing its North American total to roughly $892 million.

That puts another historic record within reach.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens currently holds the record as the highest-grossing movie in domestic box office history with approximately $936.7 million. Brand New Day is now less than $50 million away from potentially taking the crown.
Worldwide, the mountain is considerably larger.

Avengers: Endgame sits at roughly $2.8 billion, while Avatar remains the worldwide box office champion with approximately $2.9 billion.
Whether Brand New Day has enough momentum left to challenge those films remains to be seen, but reaching the No. 3 position already puts the latest Spider-Man adventure in exceptionally rare territory.
With nearly $900 million domestically and more than $2.3 billion worldwide, Tom Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man movie has officially become one of the biggest theatrical releases in movie history.

Case Sees Major Update As Jury Deliberations Begin
A Los Angeles federal jury is now deliberating the fate of Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, following closing arguments in his high-profile federal trial. The deliberations began Sept. 9 in the case involving the 2022 shooting death of Saviay’a ‘Lul Pab’ Robinson, the cousin of rapper Quando Rondo.

Here’s What Prosecutors Allege About Lil Durk
Lil Durk has pleaded not guilty to five federal charges tied to an alleged murder-for-hire conspiracy. The charges also include stalking-related conduct and the alleged use of interstate facilities in connection with the plot. Prosecutors leaned on testimony from cooperating witnesses to build their case. Durk’s defense team, however, challenged the witnesses’ credibility. His attorneys also argued that Durk’s connections to people tied to the shooting do not prove that he ordered or financed the alleged attack.
Did Prosecutors Tie Lil Durk To The Alleged Plot?
Prosecutors contend that Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, played a role in financing and directing an alleged plot aimed at Quando Rondo, born Tyquian Bowman. The government has tied the alleged retaliation to the 2020 killing of King Von. During the shooting targeting Bowman, his cousin Saviay’a ‘Lul Pab’ Robinson was killed, while Bowman survived. Durk did not take the stand, and his defense ultimately presented nine witnesses before resting its case.
Jurors are also being asked to consider the Pinkerton doctrine, a legal principle that can make a person in a conspiracy responsible for another participant’s crime when it was committed to advance the alleged conspiracy and was reasonably foreseeable. Prosecutors argue that principle could apply to Robinson’s death if the jury determines Durk was part of a plot targeting Bowman, while the defense has pushed back on that theory. At press time, the jury was still deliberating, and no verdict had been reached. Deliberations will resume on Friday (September 10).
Wait, Was Jay-Z Mentioned?
There’s also been a notable Jay-Z comparison making the rounds amid the trial. According to Trap Lore Ross on X, prosecutors reportedly pushed back on the defense’s characterization of Durk as a superstar, with the alleged statement reading, “Defense will say Durk is a superstar, respectfully he ain’t Jay-Z. He thought his statements would fly under the radar… The Jig is up.” The quote has since sparked conversation online over the prosecution’s apparent attempt to downplay Durk’s career while arguing its case.

How Patrick Clancy’s Testimony Helped Lindsay’s Defense Case
A woman who served on the jury in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial revealed how her ex-husband Patrick Clancy’s emotional testimony helped the defense’s case.
Kellie Farina and two other female jurors spoke to NBC 10 Boston about the case for the first time publicly on Tuesday, September 8, just four days after Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Friday, September 4, when the jury was unable to come to a unanimous verdict. Lindsay, 36, was on trial for the January 2023 murders of her kids Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.
Farina said that Lindsay’s attorney Kevin Reddington’s decision to present testimony from people close to the defendant helped the jury better understand who she was. She said it was opposite from the prosecution, who provided “no character witnesses.”
“[Reddington] brought all these people in — people that loved her, her family, her in-laws,” Farina explained. “Even Patrick was very compassionate.”
She continued, “So we appreciated the fact that [Reddington] didn’t just delay [the trial] and drag it on with a bunch of more medical BS and get more to the point really of who Lindsay is and what her life was like.”
Patrick, 38, was the first witness to take the stand during the trial, which lasted five weeks. During his testimony, he fought back tears as he shared insight into who his three children were.
On the days of their deaths, he recalled returning home from running errands and finding that Lindsay had jumped out a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt. Soon after, he found the kids with exercise bands around their necks.
Patrick testified that Lindsay was a loving mother whose “mental health started to deteriorate” before the killings. He has also publicly forgiven her for the murders.
Farina reflected on Patrick’s testimony shortly after his attorney issued a statement slamming conspiracy theories on social media suggesting that he was involved in the killings.
“Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign,” Patrick’s lawyer, Howard Cooper, said in a statement on Tuesday. “This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.”
Cooper continued, “This campaign, now fueled by insatiable media coverage, remains at a fever pitch and has resulted in real life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life.”
“Patrick has no choice but to address this situation – with the clear goal of stopping injurious behavior, creating accountability for lies that are self-serving to the perpetrators, and being able to return his attention to what matters: preserving the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy and supporting other women facing perinatal mental health challenges,” he added.
After noting that “enough is enough,” Cooper said that “this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop.”
“Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally,” he said. “Law enforcement has been notified.”
