2026 has been a great year for sci-fi, with the likes of Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott releasing new entries into the genre. The highlight so far has been the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-directed masterpiece Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, which beautifully adapts the 2021 novel by Andy Weir. Project Hail Mary ​​​​​​was a huge hit with critics, including Collider’s Ross Bonaime, who dubbed it “the first great film of 2026” in his 9/10 review, and is an early favorite to take home Oscars in early 2027.

Project Hail Marywasn’t just a hit with critics; it was also a commercial success, earning an enormous $682 million worldwide during its extended box office run. But not every sci-fi film of the year has managed to hit these same heights. In fact, one of the most surprising flops of this summer hailed from the genre’s biggest franchise, one that Lord and Miller themselves have even previously been involved with. The film in question is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which saw Pedro Pascal‘s bounty hunter make the move from the small to the big screen alongside the hugely popular Grogu.

The latest Star Wars movie seemed destined to fly high at the box office, but instead fell far, far away from expectations. Against a budget of $165 million, The Mandalorian and Grogu earned just $345 million worldwide, barely breaking the all-important $330 million mark, which doesn’t account for major marketing costs. This is far short of what many had expected and is even the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars movie ever made. Thankfully, it has since bounced back after coming to streaming, and currently ranks as the most-watched movie on Disney+ in the world, outperforming the likes of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Avengers: Endgame.

What Did Critics Say About ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?

Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu simply had to continue the success of the three-season Disney+ series that had laid impressive foundations for this big-screen jump. However, it fell short both commercially and critically, earning mixed reviews across the board. This included Collider’s Aidan Kelley, who called it “not the Star Wars movie we need right now,” adding, “The Mandalorian and Grogu are neither great nor awful, and that’s what makes it one of the galaxy far, far away’s most frustrating.”

Over the weekend, Kai debuted his VIVET fashion line with its inaugural fashion show in New York City, bringing together family, friends, celebrities, and fellow streamers to support his latest venture. The Saturday, Sept. 12, event featured a star-studded lineup, with celebrities including Lauryn Hill, Jaden Smith, Coi Leray, and others. Several familiar faces from the streaming and entertainment world also showed up to support Cenat as he stepped into a new creative lane. Chicago Police Share Details On Deadly Early-Morning Shooting

According to CBS News, the Chicago Police Department confirmed that a 22-year-old man was fatally shot around 3:58 a.m. in the Fuller Park neighborhood. Authorities say two vehicles pulled up alongside the victim as he was sitting in the driver’s seat and opened fire before fleeing the area.

Dispatch Audio Reportedly Identifies The Shooting Victim

The victim reportedly suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and shoulder. Responding officers provided treatment at the scene, where the man was ultimately pronounced dead. While police have not publicly released the victim’s identity, dispatch audio that surfaced online reportedly identifies him as “Cooper, Mikquale,” with a date of birth listed as Aug. 6, 2004. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, and additional details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the deadly incident have not been released.

DJ Vlad Speaks Out & Seemingly Confirms

Following news of the reported shooting, DJ Vlad also addressed Q50’s death via X. Vlad, who interviewed the rapper last year, reflected on their conversation while offering his condolences to Q50’s loved ones. “Rest in peace Bloodhound Q50, who was shot and killed a few hours ago. I interviewed him last year. He was the most media-trained rapper I’ve ever spoken to at his young age. My condolences to his family, friends, and fans,” he wrote.

Q50’s Last Public Moment Came Just Weeks Before The Shooting

The reported shooting comes just weeks after Q50 celebrated his 22nd birthday with the release of his latest project, ‘Get Back or Die Trying,’ which dropped on Aug. 6. The project also included an appearance from fellow Bloodhound artist Lil Jeff, who was fatally shot in 2024.

After rising to stardom with roles in The Americans, Girls and The Beast in Me, Matthew Rhys was excited to share even more about himself while celebrating award buzz surrounding his new hit series, Widow’s Bay.

“[It is an] the interesting question [to consider] how long [the show could go for],” Rhys, 51, exclusively tells Us in his 25 Things You Don’t Know About Me interview, on newsstands now. “It’s like Scooby-Doo. How long could you draw an episode of Scooby-Doo? How long does it take for them to figure something out? Or how long does it take for them to try and figure something out before they become buffoons for not figuring it out?”

He continued: “If the audience is going, ‘Oh my God, come on! You can see how it’s figured out!’ Then you’ve lost them. So I don’t know but it could be quite finite.”

HBO’s Sharp Objects is a heart-wrenching and often disturbing examination of a female protagonist who is haunted by her hometown and the murders of two young girls. At first glance, these two shows have little in common, but a completely underrated Apple TV series perfectly captures the best of both.

What Is ‘Truth Be Told’ About?

Truth Be Told, based on the 2017 novel Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber, began airing on Apple TV back in 2019 and ran for three seasons, wrapping up in 2023. The series follows a well-known podcaster named Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer), whose claim to fame was covering the murder of a professor named Chuck Buhrman (Nic Bishop) back in 1999. Poppy was convinced that a young man named Warren Cave (Aaron Paul, as well as Hunter Doohan in flashbacks) was responsible for the gruesome murder.

The only problem is that Poppy now has reason to believe that Warren may have been wrongfully convicted of the crime. Because of her immense guilt, she feels driven to correct her mistake and discover the truth about who actually killed Chuck. Truth Be Told unfolds with an eerie, twisty narrative, complete with family secrets, betrayal, and lies. Subsequent seasons of the series allow Poppy to investigate other cases, similar to The Lincoln Lawyer, including the murder of a filmmaker in Season 2, and the terrifying disappearances of several young Black girls in Season 3.

‘Truth Be Told’ Captivates With Its Suspenseful Storytelling and Stellar Cast

All 28 episodes of Truth Be Told are thrilling to watch because the storytelling is so gripping. It’s easy to find yourself drawn into Poppy’s cases, especially because she becomes so enmeshed with both the victims and the suspects. She’s not a perfect protagonist, since she’s responsible for putting a potentially innocent person behind bars, but her dogged desire to fight for the truth is both admirable and riveting. The dark, almost Southern Gothic vibe, similar to the one found in Sharp Objects, becomes almost another character, portraying the setting as mysterious and dangerous. Plenty of red herrings and twists and turns help the pacing of each episode fly by.

Truth Be Told doesn’t feel like your average prestige thriller, and much of this is because of the impressive cast. Oscar winner Spencer shines in a role that allows her to dig into the messier sides of humanity, a far cry from her hilarious performance in the recent Prime Video hit Ride or Die. Paul, as impeccable as always, has a hardened edge to his performance that demonstrates the harsh effects of growing up in prison, and his scenes with Spencer are incredibly intense. Lizzy Caplan is a standout in Season 1 in a dual role as Chuck’s traumatized twin daughters, while Elizabeth Perkins is heartbreaking as Warren’s cancer-stricken mother. The Pitt‘s Katherine LaNasa even pops up in a supporting role as Noa Havilland, the producer of Poppy’s podcast. One of the most fascinating aspects of Truth Be Told is that Seasons 2 and 3 provide brand-new cases and even more extraordinary cast members; Kate Hudson, Gabrielle Union, and Peter Gallagher are just a few of the actors who help bring Poppy’s world to life in later episodes.

Truth Be Told was cancelled after Season 3, but many felt the show had run its course due to its anthology storytelling format. With just three seasons, the series is now the perfect length for a binge-watch. Even if the content is pretty heavy, you’ll be drawn in by the captivating twists and authentic performances in all three seasons of Truth Be Told.

Hayden Panettiere‘s boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, found himself in handcuffs following a chaotic night out with his brother, Zach Hickerson.

The incident unfolded at a local bar, where an argument involving the brothers and other patrons eventually brought police to the scene.

During the commotion, Brian also made a startling accusation involving the investigation into the death of his late girlfriend, Hayden Panettiere.

What began as a night of drinking for Brian and Zach quickly descended into disorder at Wild Wing Cafe in Greenville on Saturday.

Sources told TMZ that the brothers had spent several hours drinking at a table toward the back of the establishment. At some point, Brian approached the bar and began speaking with other people before the situation escalated. He allegedly picked up a bar stool and threw it backward.

Footage obtained by the news outlet captured another tense moment during an argument with patrons. Brian could be seen being lifted off the ground by someone behind him before he was carried outside. A bartender was heard shouting, “Let him go!” as the confrontation continued.

Greenville police were eventually called over a reported “assault.” According to authorities, responding officers encountered Brian and Zach outside the establishment, where they were involved in an altercation with other individuals.

The incident ended with both brothers being placed in handcuffs, but their encounters had different outcomes.

Brian Hickerson Made Shocking Claims About Hayden Panettiere’s Death

While officers dealt with the disturbance, Brian unexpectedly brought up Panettiere’s death and leveled an accusation against the local police department.

Video from the incident captured Brian shouting, “GPD leaked it when my girlfriend died,” apparently referring to the Greenville Police Department and information surrounding Panettiere’s death.

The 36-year-old actress was found unresponsive in a Greenville apartment on August 16, where she and Brian had been staying. Zach discovered her body, and Brian later administered Narcan after finding her unconscious, according to a statement Zach previously gave TMZ.

Brian did not elaborate on what information he believed police had leaked, and the news outlet did not report evidence substantiating his accusation.

Panettiere’s cause and manner of death have not yet been made public. The circumstances surrounding her passing still remain under investigation.

Brian Hickerson Was Released While His Brother Faces Arrest

Despite being handcuffed during the confrontation, Brian was not arrested. Police eventually released him without charges stemming from the incident.

Zach, however, was taken into custody. Greenville police told TMZ that he appeared highly intoxicated and began shouting profanities while officers were at the scene.

His behavior resulted in his arrest for disorderly conduct, and he was subsequently taken to jail.

For Brian, the encounter comes less than a month after Panettiere’s death, once again placing him in the public eye as questions surrounding the actress’ final days continued.

Brian Hickerson Was Reportedly At The Center Of Hayden And Her Mother’s Strained Relationship

Long before Panettiere’s death, Brian had become a major source of tension between the actress and her mother, Lesley Vogel.

Vogel said she traveled to California about a year before her daughter’s death to help Panettiere end the relationship with Brian. This is something she maintained Hayden had decided she wanted to do herself.

“She knew that Brian was toxic,” Vogel told “Good Morning America,” per Fox News Digital. “She knew she had to get him out of her life.” However, Vogel said her daughter later informed her that she intended to remain with “the person” she loves.

The situation eventually pushed Vogel to make a painful decision. Following advice from her therapist, she told Panettiere that they could no longer communicate while Brian remained in her life.

That decision led to their estrangement. Vogel believed the distance between them would only be temporary, never imagining that Panettiere would die before they had an opportunity to repair their relationship.

Brian Hickerson Allegedly Pursued Another Woman Before Hayden Panettiere’s Death

The concerns surrounding Hickerson’s relationship with Panettiere were further complicated by claims that he had been pursuing another woman months before the actress died.

According to TMZ,  Hickerson allegedly exchanged flirty messages with an unnamed woman he met at a Greenville nightclub about five months before Panettiere’s death.

After their encounter, Hickerson allegedly contacted her the following day, writing, “Great meeting you last night, pretty lady. I owe you a date.” When she later responded that she remembered little about meeting him because she had been heavily intoxicated, he continued trying to arrange another meeting.

The news outlet also noted that the exact nature of Hickerson and Panettiere’s relationship was not publicly clear during that period. It is also unclear whether they had any arrangement that permitted them to see other people.

The allegations added another detail to the complicated picture of Hickerson’s relationship with Panettiere. The pair’s connection has faced renewed scrutiny following her death and his recent encounter with police in South Carolina.

Céline Dion kicked off her comeback concert tour with great fanfare.

Dion announced in March — on her 58th birthday — that she would headline a limited run of 10 concerts in September and October. Following enormous fan demand, Dion added six additional concerts to the schedule.

Kicking off her Céline Dion Paris shows, the music icon celebrated her accomplished career over four acts as she performed her biggest hits in French and English, including “On ne change pas,” “Because You Loved Me,” “Courage” and “La Wally.”

Before Dion took the stage, she had been working on improving her health for the show in what a source recently told Us was “an incredible labor of love.”

“Trust that Céline would never have taken this on if she didn’t feel she could deliver,” the insider exclusively shared with Us. “It has grown beyond her expectations, which is really incredible. I am not sure her fans understand the commitment behind this. It is going to be spectacular.”

Per the source, Dion put in ”constant, consistent work” to improve her health.

“People may not realize how much work Celine put in to fight this condition and to regain her strength and mobility,” the insider added. “There were many years of figuring out what was going on, that alone can be very daunting, and then to find the right people to help you.”

While the source acknowledged that Dion faced “highs and lows” in her journey, she remained committed to getting her strength back.

“There were very low, emotional times [of her] thinking, ‘What is happening? Why is this happening? Will I get to the other side of this?’” the source told Us, noting that the musician has already seen “such great results with her rehabilitation.”

The insider continued, “She is physically so strong and has done so much hard work to get here. She trains almost every day on top of physical therapy. Céline is incredibly resilient and strong-willed, but she is also very tender and playful. She can laugh at herself and her circumstances.”

Your kindness means more than words can express,” Raz wrote.

Raz-B Announces Funeral Plans For Infant Son Astro

The singer went on to reveal that the family is preparing to lay their infant son, Astro Monte Thornton, to rest on Monday, September 14. Raz also acknowledged the outpouring of support from those who have reached out and asked how they could send flowers, sharing the address for a funeral home in Atlanta, Georgia. “We truly appreciate your love and support,” he wrote.

As previously reported, heartbreaking news surfaced this week regarding the unexpected passing of Raz-B and Mona Li’s three-month-old son. According to TMZ, sources close to the family confirmed the infant had passed away earlier in the week. At the time, the cause of death had not been determined.

On Friday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that an autopsy had been completed on Wednesday. However, the cause and manner of death remained pending as the investigation continued. Raz-B’s latest message marks his first public statement following the devastating loss, as he and his family navigate an incredibly difficult moment while preparing to say goodbye to their baby boy.
